Snape sat at his desk, too stunned for words. Harry's outburst turned his mind backwards in time, to a long ago fight.
Green eyes flashed at him in anger and hurt. "I can't believe that you would turn me down because your friends don't like my parents." She yelled at him. His heart was breaking while he felt the cackling in his head. 'She will never be yours Severus, I have plans for you that cannot risk your association with her.' the voice hissed in his head. His arms crossed without his permission, his face screwed up into a smirk. "It's not my friends, mudblood, it's you, I don't want to be around your filth anymore" he spoke, all the while screaming inside.
Those vibrant eyes fell. When she looked back, they were soulless, almost a dead green.
Snape's chest ached dully. She rarely spoke to him after that. Only a few times when her compassion would be greater than her hurt did she talk to him. The following year she said yes to James. The light had returned to her eyes, so Snape could not begrudge that, He could hate the man though.
Harry's eyes had been more alive than he had ever seen them today. Maybe he was more like Lilly than James, Maybe.
And maybe he would hide this news with the other secret thoughts that Voldemort could never touch. That is why he had learned Occlumancy so many years ago.
~~~~~~~~~ The Hall~~~~~~~~~~~
Harry blinked twice after he and Draco were out the door, taking in his surroundings as the red haze slowly slipped from his eyes. There was no one in the corridor, so he relaxed his grip on Draco's arm and led him to the closest dark alcove.
"You alright?" Harry asked softly, caressing the pale cheek the just seemed to be a bit paler than normal. Draco's eyes focused on Harry’s locked in the hypnotizing gaze. Harry saw fear. Gathering Draco close, he held him, trying to get him to talk. "Please tell me what I can do, love" Harry whispered.
"What if he tells father, or my Aunt, or worse You-know-who?" Draco mumbled his voice shriller than usual.
"Dumbledore trusts him Draco, as much as I hate him, there has to be a reason. He would not directly put you in danger, nor me, even if he does despise me." Harry hoped he was right, hoped all his suspicions were wrong about Snape.
Draco looked up with hope filling his eyes.
Harry placed a soft kiss on Draco's pink lips. "I'll come get you tonight; I have someplace safe for us." He whispered.
Draco smiled. Reluctantly he let go of Harry to go to his next class. It was getting harder to be apart from Harry, the ache kept building each day.
Harry mouthed, "I feel it too, and I love you." before he too, turned to go.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Malfoy Manor~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lucius paced his study. It was only a brief reprieve from the man in the other room, but he needed space to think.
The Dark lord wanted his son, expected his son. Everyone is just a tool, a means to an end, and that end only turns out suitable for one person, the Dark Lord. Lucius must inform Severus, He couldn't bear for anything to happen to Draco. Narcissa will keep the Dark lord occupied when he the time came to go talk to Severus. Hopefully the information will prove useful enough to Dumbledore to garner his favor and protect Draco.
The door burst open, and Bellatrix danced into the room.
"Isn't it wonderful brother, my nephew will finally be part of the great plan?" Bella sing-songed. She was always lost in her own world and unfortunately that world, revolved around the Dark Lord.
"Of course, our family is honored Bella, But we need to make sure he is ready first. The Dark Lord needs only the best for his plans..."Lucius crooned to his sister-in-law.
She kept bouncing around the room a bit before she whirled back out the doorway, humming to herself.
Lucius decided that tomorrow would be the best time to talk to Severus, and warn his son. He turned fluidly on his heel in search of his wife.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Hogwarts, Gryffindor Common Room~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Harry put on his soft slippers, pulled his invisibility cloak from under his bed, and slid it around his body. He walked silently down the stairs to the common room, it was dark, and only a few classmates were up studying. Hermione was of course to be expected, sitting by the fire with a book in her lap. He paused at the opening in the wall, not wanting to draw attention to himself, laid a hand silently on the back of the portrait and pushed slowly. Not a sound was emitted as he slipped out into the hall.
It took Harry 20 minutes to reach the dungeons, a couple of the staircases did not co-operate tonight. Harry waited, the prefect was punctual at least. She gave the password and went inside, with Harry close behind, just barely missing his cloak getting caught as the portrait closed.
Harry quickly gazed around the common room, looking to see if Draco was there or in his bed. Firelight danced across Draco's hair as he sit in the windowsill looking into the murky depths of the lake. Harry walked over to Draco and slid his hand up the other man's thigh. Draco inhaled sharply, but otherwise didn't move, or change expressions. The common room was empty, so Harry flipped his cloak over Draco and they stared into each other's eyes, not making a sound.
Together in perfect synchronization they walked back over to the portrait hole, and softly exited.
"Where are we going?” whispered Draco.
"The Room of Requirements." Harry stated softly.
They walked silently through the halls, past hundreds of sleeping portraits, and up several flights of stairs.
Being close to Draco, but not touching, was agonizing. Harry's breathing increased rapidly, his body was heated, and his gaze was starting to blur so much that he had to keep blinking to see straight.
Once they made it to the third floor corridor, Harry paced in front of the empty wall.
'I need a safe, beautiful place for me and Draco,' Harry thought over and over.
A small intricate door appeared. It was just high enough to fit both of them in. The etchings on the wood were exquisite. Lion and Snake entwined as if in battle or embrace, neither Harry nor Draco could tell which. A repeated patter of the fleur-de-lis surrounded the imprinted animals.
Harry pushed open the door by the intricately designed handle in the shape of a moonflower. When Harry and Draco entered the room, each gasped in awe and wonder of what lay before them.
