Chapter 6
Break Bread to Make Amends
Three weeks later, Hermione was sitting in the kitchen with her mum, addressing the holiday card envelopes that Mrs. Granger sent out every Christmas season. Draco hadn't uttered another word about a meal with Lucius, although they had had lunch together twice since the infamous breakfast, and Hermione had finally begun to relax about the idea, although more often than not, she found her dreams had continued to star a faceless man with blonde hair, and she would wake hot and bothered many mornings.
Some mornings, she was so desperate for relief she had taken measures in her own hands, and in the moments of release, she would picture angry gray eyes in her mind.
She had shoved these inconvenient feelings into the back corner of her mind and tried her best to ignore them as she focused all of her spare time and attention on planning her engagement party, although if she was being truthful, she had left a great deal of the planning to Molly, as she was much more excited about the event that Hermione was.
Suddenly, an elegant eagle owl soared through the window that Hermione immediately recognized as Draco's.
She removed the note, expecting to see Draco's scrawl and instead found elegant handwriting and the following:
My dear Miss Granger,
It was the height of poor manners to insinuate anything untoward had happened between you and my son, and as you pointed out, I should know my etiquette better than that.
Draco informs me that you would not decline a dinner invitation from me, and so I hope to make amends for my ghastly behavior by extending the olive branch, and asking you to join me tomorrow at the Manor at 8 pm.
Flower says she knows all your favorites and is already busily preparing as I write this.
Until tomorrow, I remain,
Yours, Lucius
Hermione wadded the note and threw it on the table, huffing angrily as she did so.
"What's wrong, darling?" Mrs. Granger asked consolingly.
"Just Lucius Malfoy! Thinks he can summon me to the Manor, as if he’s the King of the bleeding Wizarding World! And of course, he told Flower I was coming, so it'd be heartbreaking to her if I didn't show, so now I am left with no choice," Hermione spat out.
"Oh, Draco's father? That beautiful man?" Mrs. Granger swooned as Hermione rolled her eyes. "Ron's out of town for work this week, next weekend is the Ministry Christmas do, and then the weekend after your engagement party, so it seems the perfect time to enjoy a nice meal. Why, I think it was very sweet of him to invite you!" she exclaimed.
"Well, I mean, I - I can't say no, not now that Flower is expecting me," Hermione stammered.
"No, of course not darling," Mrs. Granger soothed, "and I definitely think you should wear that green dress we bought last weekend. And the Louboutins." she finished.
Great, Slytherin colors, I'll bet the Malfoys will love that! Hermione thought grumpily to herself, but grabbed a piece of paper to quickly scribble a yes to Lucius' invitation and tied to the owl before watching him leave.

The next evening, Hermione found herself yet again on the front stoop of Malfoy Manor, although this time she was much more formal than her last visit. Her hair was charmed into long smooth ringlets and she was wearing an emerald green satin dress with a bow at the waist and finished off with sky-high silver Louboutin heels. Her makeup was minimal, mostly chosen to emphasize her eyes, and simply put, she felt beautiful as she grabbed the brass knocker and pounded twice.
Flower appeared at the door, and exclaimed excitedly "Missy Granger! You is coming tonight! Master Lucius told me, so I makes all yous favorites! Come, come, Master Lucius is in his study," she grabbed Hermione's hand and pulled her deeper into the house.
"Here we is!" Flower announced, and winked out of sight, leaving Hermione in the doorway of the study.
Hermione entered the study, and began to look around the unfamiliar room. Although she had been in the Manor many times, she had never been in the study, and she found herself impressed against her better wishes at the sheer volume of books in the room. There had to be hundreds of thousands of books in the enormous, multi-leveled room, although everything was done in such a way to make the room feel intimate, and the spicy cinnamon smell perfuming the air and the crackling fire lent themselves to a remarkable ambiance.
Hermione found her feet taking her to the nearest bookcase, and began to run a finger across the tomes as she daydreamed about spending hours in this room.
Lucius, curious about Hermione's late arrival, decided to occupy himself in the study until she showed, and entered the room to realize that she was already there. From behind, she was a breathtaking picture in Slytherin green, and Lucius' eyes traveled down her legs, which appeared to be miles long in those heels, and unbidden, the thought of those heels over his shoulders started a familiar tightening in his pants.
"See something you like?" Lucius asked silkily.
You, thought Hermione suddenly, her eyes landing on Lucius as she spun around. Pushing her traitorous thoughts to the back of her mind, she gulped and answered, "oh, of course, Mr. Malfoy. You know how I feel about books, and your collection is unrivaled,"
"Miss Granger, I'm not going to ask you again to call me Lucius," he answered, his eyes glittering dangerously.
"Turnabout's fair play, Lucius, so I must insist you address me as Hermione, and can I ask how long it took to acquire this wealth of books?" Hermione retorted mischievously.
"Well Hermione,” he began, emphasizing her first name, “you might find that Draco's not the only bookworm of the Malfoy clan, and I've been collecting for many years. As in many of my pursuits, I like to have and be the best," he drawled back at her, Hermione feeling her breath hitch as Lucius seemed to caress her name as he said it.
Merlin, are we flirting? What am I doing? Why do I feel like this? Hermione felt her thoughts spinning wildly as she rotated to study the titles in front of her. Unexpectedly, her eyes lit on a copy of The Hidden History of Hogwarts, a book she had been searching for for years, and she excitedly stretched up to reach the book. As she grabbed it and pulled it free, neighboring titles came loose and started to fall towards her.
In an instant, Lucius was next to her; catching the books and saving her from a nasty hit on the head. He chuckled and tossed the books down to the floor, and asked, not unkindly, "are you okay, Hermione?"
Again Hermione felt that flash as he said her name, and placed one hand on his arm, looked into the gray eyes she found herself picturing so often, and responded softly, "Yes, I'm fine. Thank you, Lucius."
She meant to pull her hand off his arm, but in her hesitance to move, found her hand accidentally caressing his arm with her eyes still locked upon his and swiftly, with no warning, Lucius' lips were on hers.
Hermione stood still for a beat, not sure what to do, her thoughts going into overdrive, but as Lucius slid one hand onto the small of her back and the other to the side of her face, her brain went silent and all she could do was feel.
At first, Lucius' lips were soft and imploring, and as Hermione fell deeper into the kiss, she parted her lips as a soft moan escaped, and suddenly, the kiss changed. What had begun as soft and tender turned to a fiery, burning passion. Lucius' tongue entered her mouth and began a hot dance with her own. He licked, he sucked, and began to nibble on her lower lip and his hands seemed to be everywhere at once.
Hermione could feel Lucius’ rising arousal pressing against her and could sense herself becoming wet in response. Lucius' hands started to travel down her back and with one swift movement, Lucius grabbed both ass cheeks and lifted as Hermione hitched her legs around his waist, his hard member pressing against her now wet core.
“Hermione,” Lucius growled into her ear as he began to trace the delicate shell with his tongue. Slowly, Lucius began to move towards his desk, fully intending to continue what they had started across the top when suddenly the sound of his husky voice brought Hermione to her senses.
"Lucius!” Hermione exploded, wriggling to free herself and batting his chest.
“What are you doing?” she demanded, stepping back and wiping her mouth with the back of her hand, chest still heaving from the effects of Lucius.
"What am I doing? I think the better question is what were we doing?" Lucius retorted, feeling his aggravation beginning to rise at the unexpected end of what had been an enticing start.
"WE were doing nothing. Thank you for the invitation, but I think I should go. Give my regards to Flower." Hermione felt as if she couldn't get out of the room quickly enough.
Heading towards the apparition point, she smoothed her dress as she walked as fast as her five inch heels would let her and she felt tears beginning to prick her eyes. What was wrong with her? She was committed to another! And why, oh why, did she like what had just happened so much?
