The family made their way home with nothing said between daughter and father. Hermione was talking so much that it wasn’t noticeable to anyone else and Levi was talking about all the awesome things he had done while she was gone. Lidia listened and nodded at the appropriate times but she couldn’t help but worry about whether or not her father was going to flip out or worse...set her on fire again. She knew that he saw her and Kale together there was no-way he hadn’t seen it, his eyes had connected right with hers and she saw the anger that filled them. Whatever his anger was though she was ready to fight him, she wasn’t a child anymore and was allowed to experience things that other girls were going through. When they got to the house she walked slower than her mother or siblings and she waited for him to speak.
“Are you dating Kale Weasley?” Loki asked, he had been turning over the information in his head the whole way home and though he didn’t like it he knew there was nothing he could really do about it, Hermione told him once that that whenever her parents told her not to do something it made her want to do it even more and she usually did.
“I am his girlfriend” Lidia answered.
“How long?” He asked.
“He asked me on the train home today” She said “Maybe two or three hours. Are you mad at me?”
“No” He answered with a sigh. He said he wasn’t however he was considering how he would be able to kill the kid and hide the body with no one knowing “I’m just worried, I know what boys want around that age and I will be damned if he tries to get it from you”
“I won’t...” Lidia started.
“I don’t think you will” He looked at her and smiled fondly “A girl who sets someone’s hair on fire because he was saying something about her mother, may be a little more able to handle herself than I originally thought”
“So” She looked down “You won’t mind us dating?”
“I never said that” He frowned “But I’ll try hard not to kill him”
“Or set him on fire?” Lidia asked.
“Can’t promise that” He said “But I promise not to hurt him when I do it”
“I guess that’s the best I’ll get” Lidia muttered.
“Did you really burn all the hair off Scorpius Malfoy’s head?” Loki asked with a grin.
“Yeah” She blushed “He was asking for it”
“That’s my girl” He said with a smile running his hand through her hair “I am proud of you, Liddy-bug”
“Thank you, daddy” She hugged him.
“If your mother asks I was really angry and told you never to do it and all that crap, okay?” He verified.
“Okay” She laughed.
Just as she expected it was the third day in to the vacation when Hermione noticed that Lidia’s chest was filling out and she made a big thing out of going shopping for bras for her. Then, just as expected, she gave her another sex-talk, telling her that her newly budding breasts were just going to be another thing that boys would be noticing and that may make them want to touch her. Then she was run through the ringer of how to say no, that there was nothing wrong in telling someone if a boy tries something. After a grueling three and a half hour lesson about not having sex and not dating (apparently her father kept her and Kale to himself) Lidia was free to hide in her room. The bedroom that she had been horrified to have before was now her favorite place to be. She had to agree with what her mother told her all those years ago when she was pregnant with Levi, this bedroom really was set up perfectly for a princess. Which meant that when she went on to college then hopefully Gabby would have this bedroom, at least she hoped they wouldn’t give it to Levi.
“Mom” Lidia called to her mother from the door “I have a question”
“What?” Hermione walked over to her “Is it about sex?”
“God no!” Lidia made a face “I was wondering about my bedroom when I go away to college”
“You’ll be going to France” Hermione answered her with a smile “Close enough to Floo home every night, not to worry it will always be yours”
With that her mother turned and walked away down the stairs not giving her any time to actually ask her the question that she wanted to. She stared open-mouthed after her before she pulled herself back in to her bedroom and closed the door. That hadn’t exactly gone the way she planned but in the past couple of years her mother had gone from the fun-loving mother she had always been and became something...someone else. It was like the muggle Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, her mother wasn’t cruel or anything she was just overbearing.
“Lidia” Loki knocked “Can I come in?”
“Yeah” She answered sitting on the edge of her bed.
“I couldn’t help but overhear your conversation with your mother” He told her “It was a bit one-sided, wasn’t it?”
“Yeah” She muttered picking at the blanket “That’s how a lot of conversations have been with her recently”
“What do you mean?” He asked, sitting at her desk facing her.
“You two have switched places” She answered “I’m used to you freaking out for no reason, following me around with pillows in case I fall, not letting me practice potions, not allowing me to even converse with the opposite sex” She shook her head “But mum has always been different. She’s allowed me to make my own choices, my own mistakes and she’s allowed me to learn from them. I know that with things like sex then you guys really coming down on me is a good thing because my having a child at this age is stupid...but college?”
“I think I messed up any hope your mother had about going back to college” Loki told her “I got her pregnant and then I dodged out before she even knew, I didn’t come back for quite some time”
“So she’s living vicariously through me” Lidia finished for him “She wanted to go to college in France when she was able to afford it so instead she’s trying to send me there. But I don’t know if I want to go there, hell I don’t know where I want to go but I want it to be my choice when I do figure it out”
“Then it will be” He promised “I can handle your mother...I’ll give her another baby or something to occupy her mind”
“How about a puppy?” Lidia offered “It’s hard enough having this many siblings as it is...I was meant to be an only child”
“Life would be easier if you were” He laughed “But not nearly as interesting though”
“So” They heard from the doorway “Am I correct in assuming that you didn’t really give her the third degree about her fire use at school?”
“Hermione” He breathed “Not now”
“You could have really hurt someone, Lidia” Hermione walked in to the bedroom “I just received a letter from Scorpius apologizing to me about what he said and I noted that you haven’t written an apology to him which makes me think that your father never talked to you”
“It was a controlled fire” Lidia defended herself, choosing not to get her father in to anymore trouble.
“It was still setting someone on fire” Hermione said “Lucky Lidia Red Granger” She said slowly and shook her head “You are grounded for the entirety of your vacation”
“What” Lidia asked horror coloring her face “I just...but I was going to...”
“You may come with me to Diagon Alley to get your bras and to get Christmas presents but that is all” Hermione said “When you are not with me you are to not leave your room”
“But” Lidia tried as hard as she could not to cry which resulted in her breathing becoming very shallow.
“Hermione” Loki stood and walked towards her talking to her quietly, Lidia didn’t know what he was saying because her breathing was so loud. But then suddenly there was loud shouting that came from Hermione before she fled the room to her own.
“That is my final decision” Hermione hissed at Lidia before she closed the door “Welcome home, Lidia”
“Liddy” Loki said “I’ll talk to her”
“Thank you, daddy” She whispered.
~~((@))~~
Loki checked on Levi and Gabby later that night. He stopped outside Lidia’s door but decided against opening it to check on her because he was sure that she was asleep or falling asleep. When he was sure that the house was all quiet he walked in to the bedroom, he hadn’t spoken with Hermione yet and he wasn’t looking forward to it. When he opened the bedroom door Hermione was sitting at her desk typing furiously at her laptop. When she was irritated she always typed because she said that it made her feel better until she was ready to face the problem.
“Hermione” He said “We need to talk”
“There is nothing to talk about” She informed him.
“We need to talk about Lidia” He told her “We need to discuss her punishment not just you”
“It doesn’t matter what you think about the situation” She told him “You had your chance and now it’s time for me to make the decisions, alone”
“You know what” He asked from behind her “That’s fine with me” He walked over to the bureau and grabbed some clothes “You want to be an only parent, you want to be the only person whose opinion matters?” He walked to the door “Then fine, go ahead and do it. I’m going to Asguard and I’m taking Lidia with me because I fear how you will treat her if I’m not here”
“You can’t!” She snapped standing up.
“Watch me” He said coldly.
Loki hadn’t ever been this angry with Hermione but he couldn’t understand what was going on with her. She was the perfectly sweet, sexual and loving wife and a wonderful mother until Lidia came home. Then she turned in to something else, she constantly told the girl what she would be doing, what she was doing wrong and sometimes she bordered on telling the girl that she wasn’t good enough. Loki had looked past it time and time again but it was really starting to get on his nerves. Thanks to the books he had been picking up throughout her life he learned that she was coming in to a very dangerous time of her life where the wrong thing said could put her in the wrong mental state and harm her for her entire life. Hermione was harsh in her punishments with Lidia, being grounded didn’t sound too horrible but with Hermione it really was. Last Christmas she was grounded as well and she hadn’t been allowed to join them for their meals, for the opening of the presents nor was she allowed to join them for New Year’s Eve, though Loki had given her the key to the attic so she could watch the fireworks. She shouldn’t have to live her life the way that Hermione was trying to raise her, she deserved to be free and happy. He walked in to Lidia’s bedroom and grabbed her duffle bag and then shook her awake leaning far over her.
“Lidia” He called “Wake up, come with me”
“What’s happened, daddy” She asked “What’s going on?”
“You’re coming with me” He told her “To Asguard”
“Why?” She asked, climbing out of bed and walking across to him at the door.
“Just come on” He told her “I will explain it when we get there”
Lidia was confused but took their leaving in the middle of the night as something that wasn’t a good thing. She could hear sobbing coming from her mothers room and she tried desperately to get in there to make sure that she was okay but Loki wouldn’t let go of her arm. They went outside and a few minutes later of flying free through time and space she found herself standing before the tall black man she knew as Heimdall. He raised his brows at Loki and smiled kindly at Lidia before going back to whatever it was that held his interest and the two set off towards the castle. The night was beautiful and the stars always seemed brighter up here, like they were closer though her Uncle Thor told her they really weren’t any closer than she was when she was at home or in school.
“When my mother died” Loki told her “They sent her body up to the stars”
“How?” Lidia asked following his gaze up.
“I’m not sure” He answered “I just knew they did” They walked a little longer but he noticed that she was falling behind him “Are you okay, Liddy-bug?”
“I’m tired, daddy” She whined “I want to go to bed”
“I know” He said stopping and picking her up “You are really getting too big to carry, but just this once I think it will be okay”
Thor stood in the doorway of the castle when Loki got up the last step breathing heavily from the extra weight he had so willingly carried. Lidia’s head was buried in his neck and her breathing had evened out a little while ago, she had gotten heavier and heavier and more than once he worried that he would drop her. Thor was grinning good-naturedly when he finally came to a stop before him but he received only a dark scowl in return. He of course knew what had happened because Heimdall knew what had happened and warned him they were on their way to the castle.
“I’ve heard of wives leaving their husbands” Thor whispered as he took Lidia out of Loki’s arms “But I can’t say I’ve heard of a husband running away from his wife”
“I am not running away” Loki hissed “I’m...teaching her a lesson”
“And you only took one of the kids” Thor pointed out “How interesting”
“Would you really want all my children running around up here getting in to trouble?” Loki asked.
“I don’t mind Levi, he’s great” Thor answered “And Gabby is only a baby”
“Levi is great” Loki agreed “However, he likes to cook and doesn’t clean up after himself and somehow manages to get whatever he is playing with or cooking with all over the house” He smirked “And all Gabby does is scream and cry when Hermione isn’t around, it’s really annoying”
“So you brought your favorite” Thor surmised “It’s fine, at least she can help out with Frigga”
“Thank you, Thor” Loki told him “I don’t...really know what to do”
“Heimdall has told me what is going on with Hermione and I am just as unable to tell you what’s going on” Thor told him, he looked at the sleeping girl in his arms and sighed heavily “Maybe some time apart is the best thing right now, it will give you time to think and spend some much needed time with Lidia”
“I’ve not been a good father” Loki whispered “She has suffered greatly because I’ve looked the other way when Hermione was in one of her moods”
“That’s not for me to say” Thor told him, he stopped outside a bedroom door and pushed it open, entering it and gently putting her in the large bed, he closed the door as he left “Only Lidia can tell you if she feels you’ve been a bad father”
“And that’s what I fear” Loki whispered.
A/N: So my characters have runaway on me. I hardly know what they are going to do next! Tell me what you think about the separation and Hermione and all that junk...I’ll be writing the newest chapter because they are still chomping at the bit.
