Chapter 5
With a tired groan, Hank ran a hand over his face and squinted in the mirror. He was just waking up for the day and still plenty groggy. After blinking his eyes a few times, feeling them burn slightly, he opened the medicine cabinet, ignoring what the mirror had to say, then grabbed the container which held his contacts. He had the magical kind, of course, ones he had to change out once a month. While it was a pain, it was far better than his old glasses. As bad as his eyesight was, he learned quickly he needed something better, especially after others learned that once he was without his glasses he was blind as a bat. No shot there. It only took one beating for him to finagle the contacts.
After changing out the lenses, vanishing the old ones and checking how many were left before he had to order them again, he groaned again. All he wanted to do was go back to bed, but he couldn't. There was simply too much to tend to. Besides, with the cycle of nightmares he had, he was certain he wouldn't sleep anyway, and would just end up having more. He'd deal. After his shower, he would suck down as much coffee as he could stomach and he'd be alert, ready to go. The only concession he was prepared make was to ensure he came home earlier than normal and lay down.As he gazed in the mirror when he shut the door to the cabinet, he lifted his wand and started the water in the shower. A nice hot shower would do him good. While the cold might wake him up better, like it did for so many, he'd had enough of cold showers at school. No way he was forcing them on himself anymore. Once the water was going and the steam began filling the bathroom, he stepped into the shower and gave a soft sigh. The hot water always felt amazing and seemed to loosen him up after nights like the one before where he didn't rest well and ached a bit when he woke. They seemed to rejuvenate him as well. All he knew was they felt amazing, so he would go with it.He quickly scrubbed himself and washed his hair then stood with his back to the heated spray, hands on the wall. Feeling the hot water beat down on his back, loosening the muscles, he let out a contented sigh, head dropping forward. Bloody amazing, that's what it felt like. He adored this. Hot water was one of the greatest luxuries in the world and he relished it.While the spray beat a rapid tattoo on his back, his hand drifted down and he grabbed hold of his cock. As he had done thousands of times before by now, he began stroking it, coaxing it to stiffen and come to life. It wasn't that he was overly horny or anything, it was more like this was a habit. He could actually get as much sex as he wanted, he just didn't.Eyes screwed tightly shut as his cock stiffened and throbbed slightly in his hand, he let out a soft groan as Sirius Black's face came to mind. Yeah, he was in lust and loving every minute of it. It hadn't abated either in the couple weeks since the first meeting. Each time they met up it fueled the desire.Breath now coming in short pants as he stroked his hard flesh, he envisioned what he wanted to do with the man, groaning loudly as he did. Oh Merlin, this was good. Hard flesh throbbing in his palm, he stroked faster, feeling his balls tighten up and grow heavy as his end approached. Though he loved a long wank, this was part of the ritual; hurry up and get it done. Harkened back to his time in school when the only real places you had time to yourself was the shower or bathroom. He just stuck with it for whatever reason. Besides, the quick wank in the morning seemed to energize him in a way most other things didn't. Not to mention it put him in a good mood the way nothing else could ever manage. As he wanked, he moaned loudly, head still hung down as he envisioned the two of them fucking. It didn't take much more than that when the end came with a loud groan and his flat stomach was coated with the evidence of what he had done. As his body continued to throb in the aftermath, he grinned a bit, not opening his eyes. A great way to start the day despite being more tired than normal.Allowing himself a few minutes to catch his breath and relish the sensations that came with the act, he then straightened up and turned around to wash the evidence of what he had done off his stomach. Yeah, he liked the idea and fantasies Sirius fueled, but he had work to do. The work wouldn't do itself while he wanked in the shower like a teenager. Nope, he had to tend to it, so it was time to move his arse.
Severus took a seat at the table in Grimmauld Place, summoned a cup of coffee then looked between Black and Lupin, taking in what they were doing. The assumption on his end was they were correlating information which had come in over the last day or so. Since it was the standard for the two, he went with the hypothesis. “Are you overly busy or can you take a break?” He asked, the tone he used in public or around others with the two not there.
“Just busy work, Severus,” Remus told him with a little smile, putting aside what he had been looking at. “What do you need?”“To pick Black's brain,” Severus told him honestly after taking a sip of his coffee. In the past this would have been unthinkable, but it was there. The three of them had put a truce in place after everything came out about that damned Prophecy and all of Albus' machinations. While they let everyone else see what they had for years, alone they were at least getting along. Not great friends, mind you, just not enemies anymore. Besides, the two were a huge help for plenty when it came to several areas.“About what?” Sirius asked, shoving aside what he had been looking at and taking a drink of his butterbeer. Since Snape had made it a point to come over when others weren't around, he assumed there was something he probably needed.“Wanted to ask you about Hank,” Severus told him honestly. “I've been meeting with someone Lucius set me up with for potions ingredients and I think they're the same person. If they are, I have not only a hypothesis about where he gets some of his information, but know it'll be a bigger boon than Albus thinks. I won't say until I know if we're discussing the same Wizard.”“Nothing illegal then?” Sirius asked, curious now. If Snape was involved and it was potions ingredients, he didn't think so, but wanted to make sure.“No, nothing prohibited,” Severus told him with a shake of his head. “They are just very hard to find is all. I'm working on the Wolfsbane, as you know, and I need some ingredients which are rare here in the UK.”“Understood,” Sirius nodded then went on to describe Hank and that scary arse bird of his.“It's the same person,” Severus said, looking pleased.“How can it help?” Remus asked, curious. Though if Lucius Malfoy was involved, he was sure Hank had plenty of information they could all use.“Because Lucius is rather smitten and obsessed with the thought of coaxing Hank into his bed,” Severus snorted, looking amused. “You can tell by the way he talks. The pattern for me has been the same as with you, Black, he wants information. Not much, but some. If I talk, I get a bit of a discount on some very expensive ingredients. I'm sure, with how Lucius is acting towards him and the way he talks, he's giving up plenty to Hank. Draco didn't come by his propensity for bragging about various areas from out of the blue; he learned it from his father. Lucius does the same when he's trying to impress someone. My understanding is Hank isn't biting. Since he's not, Lucius will pull out bigger guns to entice him. I'm sure it involves plenty of information we can desperately use.”“Oh, this is good,” Sirius grinned, hearing Remus agree. “I'll see what I can wiggle.”“With how Hank is and my feel for him after a couple meetings, I'm going to suggest you make it clear how you know, including you heard it from me. Just stay wary about mentioning sensitive secrets, but it might loosen more up.”“Will do,” Sirius grinned. “He's mentioned some bits about plenty of Death Eaters, but Lucius wasn't one of them.”“I'm damned sure Lucius is probably, unwittingly, the biggest source of information he has. He's probably not saying a word to protect the source of it. If Hank does end up giving anything up, chances are he'll do it in such a way as to ensure it doesn't look like it came from Lucius.” Severus told them, looking between the two, pleased expression still on his face.“Oh, this is good and we need what Hank knows to help,” Remus nodded, looking entirely pleased with what Severus said.“It's getting it out of him that is the issue,” Severus pointed out, looking slightly sour. “He's not like most we deal with, Lupin. Even the most basic of information isn't something easy to pry out of him. I'll let Black take on doing so as he's managing plenty.”“Since we've come up with some information he'd like, I'll see about setting up a meeting with him in the next day or so to pass it along then do what I can,” Sirius said, already planning what to do. Before the two could ask, he added, “About some bits in the Ministry and odd areas we've heard when it comes to plans. We haven't managed to piece it all together, but he might with some of what he knows. I planned to pass it along to him for that reason anyway.”After an understanding nod, Severus sipped his coffee then put it down and clasped his hands. “I have to ask; is there something about him triggering a feeling like you know him from somewhere?” He then asked Black. “It is me and I can't place my finger on it. My hope was you could.”“It's the same on this end,” Sirius admitted. “Not sure what it is either, honestly. My first thought was his eyes. They're the same color as Lily and Harry's. If I remember right, they're the same shape as well. It's just a coincidence, I think. Probably where it's coming from. There's a bit with the looks as well as he reminds me of someone, but I can't place who. Hank is—well, I think it's just a case like so many; he reminds you of someone because of so much, but it means nothing.”“It could be,” Severus said after thinking about it for a few moments, slowly nodding. “Now that you mention it, the eyes might be what is doing it. The color is the same, but they aren't. His are too cold and hard to be like Lily's.”My thoughts on it as well,” Sirius agreed.“Do you now his last name, so we can check on him? Doubt it’ll turn up anything fruitful as he’s from the States, but you never know.” Severus asked“Patterson,” Sirius told him. “Hank Patterson. I know where he went to school, as he told me, but that's about all. And I'm going to say leave it there. If he finds out one of us is looking into his past, whatever help we're getting will stop. He's just the sort we've all seen; does what he knows and is around to make a buck. I don't think looking into him will give us anything helpful.”“True,” Severus grumbled, though he was highly curious about the man. However, he would leave it. The information Black was garnering from Hank was better than any other source they had. No sense in losing something so valuable over a mere curiosity.“I wanted to know if you lot who are looking into the spell Albus thinks is on the Dursleys are getting anywhere,” Remus asked during a lull. Like Sirius, he wanted it left alone, but also wanted to know if the hunt for the spell was going anywhere. If it was, they would step in and not only find out what they knew, but how to stop it.“We are getting nowhere,” Severus told him honestly. “Albus even enlisted Filius to help, giving him what we knew. He said he thinks it's a form of Obliviate, but he’s not sure. Even if it is, that class of spells has literally thousands in it. The only way we know to narrow it down is to look for some reactions. We have a few from the Dursleys, but nowhere near enough to do more than exclude a handful of them. At the rate we're going, it would take over a hundred years to even narrow it down to under ten.”“Good,” Sirius grumbled, face taking on a hard look. “They need to leave it alone. Their screw up caused this, so I don't want them taking on trying to fix it if it's something which doesn’t need repaired.”“You'll hear no argument from me on your assessment,” Severus snorted. “If it comes down to them getting close, I'll toss some spanners into it. By the time I'm done, they'll be chasing their tails.”“Why they think to even try is beyond me,” Remus huffed, face taking on a hard cast. “None of us know when Harry vanished. Arabella knew they moved, but no one knew where. She thought Harry went with them. He wasn't checked on until his Hogwarts letter didn't go out. It was then they found he wasn't on the rolls. And they have no way of knowing just when he was removed or vanished. Minerva swears the aunt and uncle know something from the look on their faces, but has no way of getting it out of them. Even if we do manage, it won't help anything as he's the same age as Ron and Hermione. He could be literally anywhere in the world. And any information we have, he doesn't, like we're looking for him, who Sirius is, what's going on, the Prophecy, all of it. Which means he's either nice and safe or could end up walking himself into a trap of some kind because he has no idea what is going on or how it affects him.”“And I won't disagree with anything you said,” Severus snorted, shaking his head. “My thought was seeing what I could manage with the Dursleys then, between the three of us, doing what we could with the information while leaving everyone else out of it. Either that or use some in the Order who feel how we do and are only helping because it's right, not because they feel any loyalty towards Albus.”“The latter might be the way to go,” Sirius told him, liking the idea. “Between the three of us, we might manage to get readings on the Dursleys without them knowing. If we do, it might help.”“Two of you,” Severus corrected. “The minute Petunia sees me, she would either run or it would cause a fight. Then I'm sure it would make it back to Albus. However, getting the readings might not be a bad idea. I'm sure I can get my hands on their current address. You two can work it out from there.”“Give us what you can and we'll manage,” Remus told him with a determined nod. “Bill can end up being brought in to help. He's still hopping mad over so much of this mess. We won't even go into his sister's death her first year at Hogwarts.”“He still blames Albus?” Severus asked, though he was sure of the answer. Hell, plenty still blamed Albus over it and swore he knew parts.“Oh yes,” Remus sighed, shaking his head sadly. “He thinks, like others, that Albus knew but said nothing to protect whatever. All it managed to do was give You-Know-Who double the power as the shade merged with the body he had managed to acquire from the stone and Quirrell. He also thinks Albus knew what the book was and should have warned plenty of us that those objects were out there somewhere.”“Can't blame him a bit there,” Sirius grunted, giving a dry snort. “I tend to agree with them, honestly. The same with other matters. Albus was planning whatever for a long time. I'm sure most of it started right after James and Lily died because of what he did with Harry. He knew plenty then, just not letting it on.”“More I won't disagree with,” Severus added with his own nod. “It's biting him now and causing plenty of problems in the Order. We won't go into the Ministry. Whatever information he knows and passes isn't taken seriously because of his proven manipulations and schemes. It's hurting all of us, is what it's doing.”“And hiding it from the Ministry, or even contacts he had in it which could have helped, gave the evil arse time to gain enough power that we're now scrambling,” Remus groaned. “Which helps nothing.”“Get us the address and we'll see what we can manage,” Sirius told Snape. “I'll go talk to Bill tonight and enlist his help. You know he won't say anything. Then we'll plan what we need. While Petunia is older, we might need your help with her in some way, so we'll pick your brain as we come up with a scheme.”“Any help you need,” Severus assured them with a nod. He was pleased, though. While this wasn't all they needed to stop the nightmare, it was sure helping. More than anything else had in a very long time. As long as it continued, they might have a chance to win this mess. At least he hoped. If they didn't, more than just the UK was in serious trouble.
After wiggling around to get comfortable, ensuring the pillow was propped up just right for him to lean back on, Hank then grabbed his notebook. It was far earlier than he normally went to bed, but he was plenty tired, so he was just going to relax a while.
As he skimmed through notes he had written, he not only crossed some out because he had handled them, but added more since areas had changed. It was good to always stay on top of what he had so he didn't trip himself up or miss a good opportunity. Making sure to read carefully so he didn't miss anything, he covered all he had with a pleased nod. Some was finished, others were working out well and the rest were starting. Good. He then flipped to a clean sheet and began to jot down what he wanted to remember. Some bits were like areas he wanted to look into or cover with some people. He then made sure to note what he had to order or people he needed to contact about setting up buying supplies. As it wasn’t much, he completed it quickly. When he finished, he closed the book and sent it off to the study where he would tackle some of it the following day then snagged another book from the bedside table. This one contained more personal bits. Like before, he skimmed through what was there, adding details he picked up since his last notes. Mostly this was full of information he gleaned from all kinds of people, with pages denoted by the names of who he gathered it from on the top. Some didn't contain much, but ones like Lusty Luci's did, tons. Plenty would pay top dollar for what he had written in this book.He quickly finished then began going back through everything there, thinking as he read relevant bits. As he did, he flipped to the very back and made general notes on some areas he wanted to look into. Since talking to Black, he had a better understanding of what was going on and the major players. His thought now was to see if he couldn't get a complete bio on the players in this disaster so he had a better feel for the personalities involved. If he did, he might know better what he was dealing with and who might be the best to get information from. Snape was one of those there. He was highly intrigued by the man since he knew he was a marked Death Eater, but something was odd about it. Knowing his past and whatever else might give him a hint what he was dealing with and information he could pry out of him.As he looked over what was written, he tapped the nib of his quill on the book, thinking. Yes, he would write down names of all the members of both sides he knew plus the big players in the Ministry then send it off to a friend of his who owed him big. The man would take on finding every bit of information he could for him. Once he had it, he would know better what he was doing and could push on. At the very least, he would know who to avoid, even if they were referred. After making a note and sticking it as a bookmark in the book, he sent it off to his study as well. He would tend to it tomorrow with the rest he had to deal with. Then, with a sigh, he picked up a regular book he was reading. His plan was to read until he was about to fall asleep. It was a good way to relax and he hoped it would help with the nightmares.Finding his place, he settled down, making sure his wand was close at hand then began to read. Like always, he was quickly drawn in and lost himself in the pages, the worries and cares of the day slipping away.
