The next morning, Hermione sat on Harry's otherside once again and began to pile her plate for breakfast. Harry smiled at the witch and greeted her with a good morning. The two engaged in pleasant conversation about classes and the Samhain dance. Nothing was said about Draco except by Ron who kept cursing the blonde wizard's existance. Owls began swooping down to deliver the morning mail, and one rather regal looking owl settled down in front of the frizzy haired witch's plate. The owl itself was almond and white colored with large lemon yellow eyes. It had tufts of feathers sticking up like ears. It had set a large box shaped parcel down before hooting and taking flight. The trio stopped to look at the parcel. Hermione moved her plate to pull it closer, carefully opening it and gasping at what was revealed.
Inside the box was a strapless, red and gold gown. The top was heart shaped and the dress flowed beautifully, a long golden stripe going down the front. It had two black velvet boxes tucked away on the side, one was large and square and the other was more rectangular. She opened the rectangular one first.Inside was a gold bengal in the shape of a snake with a head on either side. One snake head had emerald green eyes and the other had ruby red eyes. Hermione marveled at it, running her fingers over the scales. She closed it and set it aside, opening the bigger box. Inside was a golden necklace with three charms on it. The first charm was a golden medalion with a diamond star in the middle, the second a crescent moon, and the third was a red star that looked like it contained some kind of red sloshy liquid in it. There was also a set of golden earrings in the box with ruby studs to compliment the necklace and dress.
"Merlin's beard, that's real silk!" Ginny gawked, looking at the dress from over the table.
Hermione turned her head to look towards the Slytherin table, only to see Draco raising a goblet to her with a smirk on his face.
"I wouldn't wear that if you paid me," Ron muttered "He probably put a hex on it."
"Oh grow up Ronald." She glared, lightly running a hand over the expensive dress.
"Draco really doesn't do anything half-assed does he?" Hermione hummed.
Though, to be honest, the witch thought it was a bit too much, until Ron once again opened his big mouth."You're not really going to let him dress you like some doll are you?"
Hermione closed the package with a scoff, "I think they're perfect and I for one, can not wait for the dance." She stood up and marched out of the Great Hall.
Draco wasn't fair behind her after he had seen her storming out. "Do you like the dress? I figured you'd much rather wear your own house colors than my own."
"The dress is beautiful, Draco, but please, you don't need to spend so much on me."
"That is nothing. My family has plenty to spare, remember? Besides, you're my girl. You need to get used to being spoiled."
Hermione turned a bright shade of red, actually studdering "Y-you're girl?"
"That's right. My girl."
"I.. I don't think.."
"You don't want to be?"
"Oh Merlin, I.. yes, I do."
"Good."
"But I don't think I'll ever get used to being spoiled."
"Good, I like watching you blush. See you in class."

It was finally the night of the dance, and Hermione had spent a good portion of that day getting ready. She wanted to look perfect for the pureblood. Draco had owled her that morning, asking her to meet him at the stairs so that they could walk in together. The clock struck the faithful hour and she quickly hurried to their meeting spot as fast as her strappy heels would let her. True to his word, he was waiting for her near the stairs. He was clothed to the nines in only the finest dress robes, a silk silver and green tie shimmering in the light.
"I'm so sorry I'm late!" She whined.
He chuckled and offered her arm, kissing her cheek as she took it "You're worth waiting for, my lioness."
Once again, Hermione flushed red.
Draco turned and walked her into the room, which was decorated just for the dance. Black and orange balloons and streamers were everywhere, music playing thanks to a ghost band. Tables decorated with shimmering black tableclothes and the food table looked like it was a mile long. It had punch and pastries and all kinds of other goodies. Suddenly, all eyes were on the couple. Slytherin house staring and breaking into smirks, expecting Draco to pull a prank on the Gryffindor. Yet the two reached the bottom of the stairs without anything happening and the smirks turned to scowls or looks of shock.
The witch on his arm tightened her grip nervously. "Don't worry, the safest place for you is in my arms," he whispered, walking her further into the room.
"How about a dance?" He asked, moving her towards the dance floor without waiting for her response.
He gave her a twirl to the beat, his moves precise and never hesitant. He lead her in an elegant dance, not minding if she accidentally stepped on his feet once or twice. He dipped her low and brought her back up all in the same fluid motion as the song ended. Needless to say, he had taken her breath away.
"That was..I mean I knew you would be amazing but.." She pushed the words out, Draco chuckling.
"It helps to have a partner like you"
"Me? I stepped on your feet!"
"Did you? Didn't notice. Would you care for some pumpkin juice?" He asked, leading her to a table and pulled her seat out for her.
"I would love some" She beamed. He nodded and left her by herself for a short time.
Harry moved to his friend, "Wow Hermione!"
"I know."
"He really does seem like a different person when he's with you." Harry nodded.
Hermione tensed. He was right, and now everyone in that room knew it. It would spread like wild fire.
"And everyone here knows it."
"I don't care." Draco said, reappearing with two glasses.
"But your father.."
"Can suck a toad. I'm living in the moment with no regrets. Potter."
"Malfoy."
Then Harry did something truly surprising to both Draco and himself. He offered Draco his hand. Draco stared at him long, setting the cup in his right hand down before cautiously taking Harry's hand.
"You'd better take care of my friend, Malfoy. You'd better not hurt her."
"Never." Draco said in a calm voice. They stared into each other's eyes for what seemed like forever before shaking hands. It seemed they had come to some sort of silent agreement.
