That VOICE!
He knew that voice. He had heard it often enough over the com when he had spoken with Major Kale before his death, with Captain Fili, and Lt.'s Logan and Kili. It couldn't be though. Surely they wouldn't send him here? Send EITHER of them here. Not given their history with Tom Riddle, and just how dangerous this case against him was.
"Roark?"
A smile, his silver eyes lighting with amusement as he saluted. "Lt. Roark Peverell Potter, Colonial Counter-Intelligence," his head tilted slightly to the right. "I was almost afraid you wouldn't remember me. I've changed a bit since the last time you saw me. You remember my brother?"
"Lt. Hadrian Peverell Potter, Colonial Counter-Intelligence." He smiled as he too saluted. "How are you, Ardyn?" he asked. "Grandfather asked me to tell you hello as soon as I saw you."
Ardyn could only shake his head, still not believing these two young men, his former Commander's only grandsons, were here. Looking at Roark now, looking at BOTH of them, he knew he could not allow them to remain here on Aquaria. It was just too dangerous for them both. If anything were to happen to either of them, Admiral Roark Durin and Commander Jacob Adama would never rest , or be satisfied until those responsible for these boys deaths were found and made to pay the ultimate price.
"No, Roark, not changed, jsut grown up. You both have. I've heard the two of you talking on the com with Logan, Fili and Kili about one thing or another whenever they called you, or you called them. Kobol, the last time I saw the two of you, you Roark were...what? Eight? Nine? And Harry, you were...thirteen?"
"Nine," Roark answered, "very nearly ten." He lifted a hand to brush back a few strands of hair that had just blown into his eyes. "You had just been transferred here to Aquaria as grandfather was taking me...US to Saggitara."
"And now here you are," he said. "So, why are you here? To spend some vacation time with the Durin boys before your next assignment? You just finished one, didn't you?"
"We did, and no, this is not a vacation. Weren't you told?" he asked, knowing very well that he had not been. "THIS is my new assignment. OUR assignment. Harry and I have been sent here to take over the command of the case against Tom Riddle."
"WHAT?!" he gasped, then, as if remembering where he was...where THEY were, he looked around to see several people turning to look over at them. He was frowning deeply as he looked back at them, the third man finally joining them.
"They'll see that our luggage is taken to the apartments assigned to us as soon as they have been unloaded. Captain Ardyn? Healer-Lt. Colonel Severus Prince Snape. It was decided that a Healer may be needed, especially given just how much trouble these two manage to get themselves into on a daily basis."
"HEY!" Harry protested. "We aren't THAT bad."
A snort. "THAT, young man, depends entirely on whom you are talking too. Who blew up that drug den on Virgon near the end of you previous investigation there, hum...mm?"
"That was a complete accident, Severus. I didn't MEAN to set off that grenade. Hell, I didn't even know it was in the building."
"And yet you DID set it off." He extended a hand to a still frowning Ardyn. "The Durin's, Commander Adama, and Captain Apollo all speak very highly of you, Captain. I was sorry you had already gone when I returned to Caprica."
Ardyn took the extended hand, shook it briefly, releasing it as he spoke, "You had all better follow me. We can discuss this further in my office."
"As you wish, but we're going to need to see Logan, Fili and Kili as soon as possible."
"You will. They are very likely in the office they're sharing right now," he growled at them, turning and beginning to walk away, thinking to himself that now he definitely had to get them off Aquaria, especially before they had a chance to do any damage to the operation here. "When I find out who is responsible for sending the two of you here, I'm going to kick their asses from one end of our star system, to the next."
Roark tensed, taking in his now nearly hostile attitude, his eyes taking on a hard, cool expression as he looked at Ardyn's back. He had really been hoping that this would not happen, that they wouldn't get this kind of reaction from him. Though if he were honest with himself, he really wasn't all that shocked that they HAD...not after what Admiral Roark, Commander Thorin, and the other four had told them. He looked over at Harry, saw his nod, then over at Severus, who was frowning deeply as he watched the retreating back of Captain Ardyn Grenville.
He didn't normally go on missions like this, preferring to remain on Caprica working in his private lab developing the potions and other medicine's used in the Life Center's through-out all twelve Colonies, and taking care of his and Dacian's son, seven yahren old Sasha, and their daughter, five yahren old Grace.
It had been felt...thoroughly discussed and decided that he should come along with the boys, not only as teacher to some of the boys more powerful magical gifts. Especially Roark, who was suddenly beginning to show a second magical affinity. True it was that Harry had not known about that grenade. No one had until it suddenly activated and the team had had only microns to get out of the building before the damn thing went off.
It had been Harry's lightning had set the thing off, blowing the building to rubble. He had to smile, remembering his expression when he had told them about it during the debriefing period.
It had also been decided that he would be there as minimal protection...not that the Peverell Potter brothers needed it. They had become VERY good at taking care of themselves...and each other.,
"There is something wrong here, boys. His reaction is...off," he breathed to them as they followed Ardyn.
They both nodded in agreement, their gazes cool, unreadable. Roark had been right about their ability to hide their emotions when needed. Sometimes, when he looked at them, even HE could not read them, which had been unusual, as he had the ability to read anyone.
"Then, Captain, you will be kicking the asses of the heads of Colonial Counter-Intelligence, as they are the ones who sent us here," he said in a cool tone.
"What the fuck are they thinking to send the two of you here?" he growled the question with a shake of his head.
"They were probably thinking that they needed someone to take charge here, and that I was more than capable of doing it. They sent Harry as my partner and second."
"You're too young. You're BOTH too young," he shot back at them.
"Our age had nothing to do with how well we do our jobs, Captain," Harry snapped at him. "We are ful--"
Ardyn held up a hand to stop any further words. :We will discuss this in my office, Lieutenant. AFTER I have called Colonial Headquarters on Caprica."
"As you wish, Captain," he said in a tightly controlled tone. Turning his head, he looked over at Roark. "Something is definitely off here," he breathed, saw him nod. : He wants us gone, Rory. Off Aquaria. And he is beyond determined to see it happen. : he spoke telepathically to him.
: Well, won't he be in for a surprise when he learns we won't be going anywhere any time soon. : He returned with a smirk.
: Ah...but now we must ask ourselves WHY he wants the ...NEEDS to get the two of you off Aquaria so badly. : Came Severus' softly spoken words into both of their minds, not wanting to startle them with the knowledge that he too, was telepathic.
"There's no need for you to be so careful, Severus. We were informed that you were telepathic as well. : Harry told him, glancing over at him with a grin, aa midnight brow arching. : Which now begs the question of what ELSE are you? :
: THAT, young man, would be for me to know and for you to figure out, : he shot back at him with a soft chuckle.
