It was about three weeks prior to the beginning of this story when Audrey was still at Hogwarts about to graduate. She was not looking forward to graduating like all her classmates. Audrey had no one to go home to; her mother had abandoned her at age four by flying her all the way to England from America to live with her a father a man she had never met before. After that she never saw or heard from her mother again.
Audrey’s father, she loved him dearly even though he was a bit crazy, had been eaten by a Chimera when she fourteen years old. Her father’s mother grandma Audrellia, known as Audrey, had moved into the family house and raised Audrey then. But her grandmother died during this past Easter vacation, and now she was alone.
This was causing her to do something she had not planned to do, she was looking for an after graduation job. All the other students of her year had already done this, a while back and had their jobs already. Audrey had never planned on a job; her father had been a famous Quidditch star and had left a decent amount of money, so it was not like she needed to. But since her grandmother died, Audrey did not want to be home all day alone.
So here she was, writing a letter to Ludo Bagman, her fathers old friend, asking for his help. Mostly she was hoping for a decent recommendation, so a few days later she was very surprised by the response. It seems the intern he had just hired for the Department of Wizarding Games and Sports had been drafted for a Quidditch team last minute. So Ludo Bagman was offering Audrey this job, even though she wasn’t sure she agreed to do this.
After graduation Audrey went on to the Hogwarts Express for the last time to head home. All of her friends were talking about how their parents were going to do this or do that for them since they had graduated. She listened to this all day, then once they reached Kings Cross; Audrey was the only student who had no one waiting for her on the platform or in the muggle world. She was not ready to go to an empty house so instead she took the Knight Bus to Diagonal Alley to spend the night at the Leaky Cauldron.
The next morning Audrey took the over five hour muggle train from London to her home town of Botwnnog. It was only June 2nd, and she did not start her new job till the 6th, the next Monday. She was not expecting much to happen, only expecting to try and figure out how survive the next few days. When she got home she went to her room and put her things away then set out food for her cat Pippin and gave her owl Gideon fresh water.
The next few days Audrey just ran some errands and caught up with what her muggle friends had been up to. Down the road the Norwood’s lived, their son Ben was the same age as Audrey. When they saw her in town they invited her over to dinner, knowing she had no one left. It was nice, but an awkward dinner, since she could not tell them about her school or anything. All she said was she is starting an office job the following Monday.
That Friday Audrey was home in her little living room reading a book, her front door was open and Pippin was playing in the garden. It was a nice lovely afternoon and she was starting to feel like a snack, when she heard Pippin hissing at something; then there was barking.
“Sasha!” A women’s voice said. “Calm down it’s just a cat. Now where is…”
Audrey got up and headed outside and saw a lady looking at a piece of paper in her hand, her other hand held the leash for a toy poodle. “Excuse me?” Audrey asked the lady. The lady looked up; she was blonde, obviously dyed, with honey eyes. Audrey knew this woman and almost fell over; she had not seen this woman in about fourteen years.
“Yes I am looking for the Llewellyn household.” The lady said.
“Lucille?” Audrey asked, her mother could not even recognize her.
“Yes?” Lucille asked looking at her, than her eyes went wide. “Cassie dear?”
“I go by Audrey now.” Audrey told her. “I was not even sure you were still alive.”
“You're still upset with me I see.” Lucille said.
“Why are you here?” Audrey asked.
“”I got a letter from your grandmother.” Lucille said. “She told me how your father died four years, some accident while on holiday. And told me she did not have much time left. She did not want you be alone, so I came here to see how you are. No one should ever be alone.”
After some talking and seeing the letter Audrey allowed her mother to stay so they could get to know each other. Audrey put Lucille in her grandmother’s old room, the only bedroom on the first floor. But this was soo awkward for Audrey all weekend, she was glad when Monday came and she had work. At first Lucille was a little upset, she wanted to spend time with her daughter. But then Lucille was surprised her daughter was not going to go to a university.
