Chapter 06 – A Lion, a Snake, and a Sea Creature
Hermione crossed her arms and scowled at the mention of the phrase.
Alex Mondragon looked back at her as the door opened. “Oh. I guess if you can’t speak, you’ll have to be with me to get in and out.”
That wasn’t why she was upset.
“I can see how that would be annoying.”
No, it wasn’t annoying. What was annoying was him not realizing how offensive the pass phrase was and she couldn’t say anything about it.
“But if you need to get out for anything, it’s no trouble. We can go wherever you want.”
Her scowl lowered and an eyebrow raised. Maybe she was wrong to judge him so quickly. He wasn’t the one that made the pass phrase, and he hadn’t treated her poorly… yet.
Alex pushed the door fully open, and a green hue bled into the hall. He pulled her hand away from her crossed arm position and led her inside. “My lady elf,” he said dramatically. “Welcome to Slytherin.”
She expected the common room to be dark and damp, giving you a feel of gloom.
But it was mellow and calming. A flame roared in the hearth. A large circular rug with the Slytherin crest embroidered on it, relaxed in the center of the room. A few sofas and seats circled it, all cozying to the fire. The far wall had tall arched windows, going from the floor to fifteen feet up. The sun penetrated the greenish blue lake water and gave the room a the most calming light. Between each arched window was a section of wall where a Slytherin banner hung, just as tall as the windows. The top of each banner was a stone snake’s head. The mouths were open and inside each was a candle for extra light. They weren’t doing too much at the time, but Hermione assumed they were necessary at night when the sun wasn’t pushing through the lake water.
“I see you like it.”
Hermione looked at Alex, who was smiling at her. Did he catch her in awe? It was a shock, but she hoped that she wasn’t looking dumbfounded at least.
“This way.”
Hermione shuffled her feet to follow but her eyes wanted to see more of the common room and their great windows. She had heard that the Slytherin dungeons were below water, but she didn’t expect something like that.
“Don’t worry. My room has a way better view than here. It’s deeper, so at night I get more of the glowing kelp.”
Deeper? So, Malfoy was right. How many levels were the dungeons? Glowing kelp?
Hermione smiled and followed, forgetting the situation she was in. Joy, excitement, and anticipation filled her as if it was her first day at Hogwarts.
She was led down a hallway of doors. The floor was of stone, but a long green runner dressed with gold tassels on the sides stretched end to end. It was soft and thick. As she walked barefooted, it felt like her feet were being massaged. Forgetting her current predicament for a moment, she let a smile slip as she gripped the carpet with her toes during each step.
“Here we are.” Alex opened the door. “I’m the only one on this level, so you don’t have to worry about anyone bothering you.”
Hermione raised a judgmental eyebrow at him. Being stuck, alone, with a Slytherin didn’t sound like a safe idea.
Alex raised his hands. “You know, if you just want to stay here the whole time and not go anywhere. Whatever makes you feel comfortable. I can bring you food from the Feasting Hall if you don’t want to get out.” He looked inside his room. “Wait! I have to clean up first.”
Alex hurried inside, leaving her in the hallway. Hermione always thought that seeing how someone kept their room when not expecting company could say a lot about them. Without waiting for him to return, she pushed the door open and walked in. She set her diary on a small desk by the door.
The room was surprisingly in order. Nothing stuck out to her that needed cleaning or put away. Her eyes shifted to his four-post bed which looked brand new. It was much like her own bed except with Slytherin colored drapes that were pulled and tied back to each post. Then she noticed Alex with his back to her. He was at one of the nightstands, gathering or putting something away.
She grinned. He had a secret. Eventually, she would have to investigate that area. Her curiosity wouldn’t allow it to just disappear. Hermione crossed her arms, waiting for him to turn around.
TAP. TAP. TAP.
Hermione looked around the room. The sound didn’t come from him, and it wasn’t her. She walked back to the open door. The hallway was empty, so she closed it.
TAP. TAP. TAP.
“I’m sorry.” Alex moved from the nightstand to the far windows.
He waved his wand, and the dark green curtains slid open, revealing four circular windows. Each had a ledge and had enough surface to double as a reading nook. It looked like Alex had used them just for that purpose. Each window had some bedding and pillows.
Then, Hermione’s jaw fell open. Floating in the blue-green lake water beyond one of the windows was a mermaid. But Harry had described them being much ghastlier and more horrific. This one was filled with beauty. She didn’t have the tentacle style hair Harry had said, but long bright blonde hair that could cut through the lake’s darkness. When the mermaid smiled as Alex walked towards the window, Hermione also saw that she didn’t have the pointed teeth Harry talked about. He also failed to mention the fins that jutted from the side of her head in place of ears. Most importantly, he failed to mention that they were stark naked.
Though the creature looked to be the same age as her, the mermaid’s breast were a bit larger. The mermaid pressed them against the thick window and then pressed her cheek against it.
“Good morning beautiful.” Alex climbed into the window nook and kissed her cheek through the glass.
Hermione watched the mermaid spin and twirl through the water with glee before returning to the window. It made Hermione smile.
Alex chuckled, forgetting all about the elf. When the mermaid returned, she pouted and pointed to her wrist.
“I’m sorry. I had to leave early today.”
The mermaid crossed her arms and turned her head away. Hermione used a hand to keep from laughing.
“Look, we have a guest. She’s going to be staying for two weeks.”
The mermaid turned her head slowly until locking eyes with the elf-girl. Hermione smiled and waved. The once beautiful mermaid snarled at her then hid behind Alex.
Alex looked at Hermione and shrugged with a half-smile. “I’m sure she’ll warm up to you eventually.” He held a hand up to his face and whispered. “She can get jealous.”
The mermaid hit the window and made him flinch. He turned back to her.
“You do, you do.”
She pouted and turned her head away again.
“Anyways, this is Celeste.” Alex motioned to the sea creature. “I know what you’re thinking but she’s not a mermaid.
Not a mermaid? Hermione tilted her head.
“She’s a siren. You can obviously tell by how beautiful she is.”
Celeste posed like a model underwater. Hermione even thought that it seemed she was sticking out her chest, almost as a challenge to the elf.
“Mermaids are…” Alex cringed, “pretty freaking ugly, and scary looking.”
That made more sense and definitely sounded like what Harry had described.
“And this is…”
Alex looked at Celeste then at Hermione..
Hermione tried to say her name, but nothing came out. She saw the mermaid silently laugh. When Alex turned to her, she began twirling a finger pointed at her head and made some other gestures Hermione wasn’t familiar with.
Alex chuckled. “No, she’s not an idiot. She just can’t speak.”
Hermione furrowed her brow when Alex looked back at her. She noticed the siren peak over his shoulder at her and stuck her tongue out.
Well, there went making friends with a siren, she thought.
“What am I supposed to call you?” Alex said.
Hermione’s shoulders dropped and her head hung. As an elf, she had no identity.
“You kind of look like someone I know.”
Hermione perked up.
“It’s kind of why I chose you. Even though it seemed they already had plans on pairing us.”
THUMP.
The siren hit the glass again, but more aggressive. When Alex turned to her, she shook her head with a scrunched nose.
“Yes, she does.”
She shook her head again.
“She does, kind of.”
She hit the window then swam off.
“I’m sorry about that.” Alex said as he climbed out of the nook.
Hermione walked towards him, wanting to know why the siren was so upset. Did Alex choose her because she looked enough like herself? She hadn’t remembered ever conversating with him despite sharing a few classes together. Why choose her over the other two elves who looked like fellow Slytherins? And if he and the mermaid thought she looked like her real self, she had never done anything to sirens or mermaids to make them angry at her.
“I guess Celeste doesn’t want me to call you by her name.”
No! Hermione thought. Actually, yes! Say my real name! But her mouth just opened and shut.
“We’ll figure something out.” Alex pointed to a bookshelf. “If you can read, you can just point out a name you like in one of my books. Most of them are fantasy stories, so they might have some weird names in them. But I like them all.”
Hermione looked at the redwood bookshelf. One shelf held recognizable schoolbooks. The other shelves held other books in various sizes.
“But more importantly, you probably want better clothing.”
When she turned back to Alex, he was already rummaging through his dresser. He held up a shirt, looked at her, then put the shirt back and kept looking. Alex found a t-shirt with a print of runes circling a cauldron.
“This looks good.”
It would be pretty baggy, but Hermione could tie it to make it somewhat fit.
Alex tossed a pair of jumper bottoms onto the bed then the shirt and a pair of socks. He drew his wand and with a wave… “Reducio!” He repeated the spell twice more. All three items shrunk.
Hermione walked to the bed and collected the clothing. She smiled at Alex, happy to get out of the burlap poncho.
“I’ll let you have some privacy.” Alex turned towards the window.
Hermione was about to untie her burlap but remembered her situation, remembered the collar. She touched it. If she didn’t fill the jewels in two weeks, Snape and McGonagall would give her to someone out in town to help finish the collar. She should be thankful Draco didn’t get her. At least Alex was showing her some respect. Her diary was supposed to show her progress at midnight. Hermione concluded that she should start testing how much acts were worth. Eventually, she would have to go all the way with him. She might as well start working up to that. Maybe she would find a way around it. But somethings were probably inevitable.
She grabbed the Slytherin’s hand and gave it a slight tug. He turned. A simple point to her collar was all she could communicate with. She then placed the clothing in one of his hands then guided the other to the rope that tied the burlap. It was relieving to see him pause and take a big gulp. Of all the Slytherins, he might have been the only one to not take advantage of her.
But in her current predicament, that might not be a good thing if he continued to fight her advances.
“I… I…”
Hermione pouted and pointed at her collar again.
“I guess…”
The pull on the rope seemed like it lasted for minutes. The constant sound of the rope sliding across itself as the tied knot came undone shot shivers of anticipation up her spine. The poncho loosened and she felt the coolness of air.
Alex dropped the clothing except for the jumper bottoms. She noticed he was going to dress her bottom up, so he wouldn’t have to see her totally naked. But now or later, what was the difference. She needed to start analyzing how many points she got for the small things.
He knelt to pick one of her feet up, but she stopped him. Hermione took the sweatpants from him and dropped them on the ground. After seeing him confused, she guided both his hands to the hem of the poncho. Making sure he grabbed it with only his thumbs, she flattened his palms against her skin. He had stopped breathing and it almost made her smile. She guided his hands up and along the sides of her four-foot body Once he reached her hips, she raised her arms and let him take over.
Alex didn’t rush. His fingers savored every curve of her silhouette. Hermione felt the goosebumps rise all over her skin. He hadn’t gone just straight up with the poncho. Instead, his hands made slight detours along the way.
He never really grasped her, but his fingertips slid gracefully, almost teasingly along her skin. While at the widest portion of her hips, they lost their way for a moment and his fingers kissed her backside. Not all the way to her crack, but it was enough of a surprise that she lifted her chin to relish the feeling. Finding their way to her side once again, they proceeded up to her waist.
She found herself breathing a bit more loudly now, even wanting him to grip her waist and pull her towards him. No, that’s ridiculous.
His hands continued up and she anticipated what he might do when he reached the level of her breasts. She could hear him begin to breathe louder. He paused.
It’s okay. She thought. Do it.
Hermione could feel his breath on her chest through the burlap. She hadn’t realized he was that close to her. But he didn’t do what she wanted. He didn’t touch her where she wanted. He fought his urge and continued pulling the burlap up and off her. When it was done, they stared into each other’s eyes with him on one knee.
He swallowed once again. “You want me to put your pants on now?” His voice was shaky.
She nodded in return and his eyes lowered to her feet. On their descend, they hesitated at her breasts and lingered at her crotch. Both deviations in descent brought an unexpected excitement to her. Hermione began blaming all these unfounded feelings on the “special” elf Polyjuice potion they made her drink. Or it could be some side effect from the collar since it fed off sexual activities.
The elf raised one leg at a time and slipped into the cotton jump bottoms. This time, when he pulled on her clothes, she didn’t have to slow him. Unfortunately, though, his hands didn’t veer to her backside when he had pulled the sweats up to her waist. What she didn’t know was how hard he was fighting not to touch her again. Once more and he was afraid of losing control.
When he pulled the t-shirt over her, it wasn’t as graceful as the pants. It was something that worried her after noticing the bottoms weren’t as baggy as they should have been. The Shrinking spell didn’t exactly shrink to her size, but a tad smaller. But with the bottoms being as naturally baggy as there were, they still fit after shrinking down. The regular fitting shirt though became a tight-fitting shirt. One that she would have never worn before. But it was still better than wearing burlap.
Alex had to tug down to get the shirt to move any. Every tug jerked her towards him then relaxed. The motion began making her feel a bit warmer, almost to the point of being hot.
Hermione knew she didn’t have the largest breasts in school; she actually thought she might be below average. But her same human size breasts on a four-foot elf body made them feel huge. She had to fight herself from smiling when the shirt got snagged on them and wouldn’t go any further down. Alex kept trying to tug the back, the sides, everything to avoid grabbing the hem that refused to slip past her now voluptuous chest.
Frustrated, she grabbed his wrists and pulled them towards her breasts. She found his shyness a bit charming, but if she ever wanted to advance the collar to have it removed, he had better get over it.
Alex fought back and pulled his hands away before he touched her. The two tugged back and forth. She gazed at him, but he refused to look her in the eye. Hermione released his wrists and he fell onto his butt. Behind him, she saw the siren had returned and was clapping her webbed hands in the window. Then Celeste stuck her tongue out again. Hermione’s eyes narrowed. Was the siren getting pleasure at seeing her fail?
The elf-witch huffed and turned around, walking to the bookshelf. Her shirt stayed raised above her breasts and she didn’t care. She was an elf now, not really Hermione. And she had always been curious with how having larger breasts would feel. So, she decided that the elf Hermione would be proud of them. The elf glanced back at the window and saw the mermaid become frustrated with her indecency. Look who’s talking. You don’t even have clothes, she thought. Celeste thumped the window again and swam off.
“You’re shirt.” His voice was almost a whimper.
Hermione casually glanced back. “Fix.” She was surprised at her own voice. She wanted to say, “do something about it”. But “fix” worked just fine. At least the collar was trying to help a little by allowing that.
“You know what? I’ll just find the jumper top. It’s baggy like the bottoms so it should still fit after I shrink it.” Alex went to his dresser, then the armoire.
Hermione scanned his books and found one of the few fantasy books she recognized. Only because she was named after one of the characters. Until recently, she hadn’t even known that the author was a witch and not a human. It made her wonder how that kind of book even fell into the hands of her parents.
The elf tapped Alex on the shoulder. He turned and saw the book being shoved in his face.
“Oh, this is a good one.” He grabbed the book and opened to a random page. “Which one?”
Her finger fell onto a name.
“Jean?”
No one ever used Hermione’s middle name. Not many even knew it. It was the heroine’s name in the book.
Alex set the book down and looked at her. “Nice to meet you Jean.” He held a hand out. She took it to shake. Instead, he turned her hand to the side and kissed the top. “The honor is mine, Lady Jean.”
Jean. It sounded so weird to her out loud. Maybe she should have chosen another name.
When he had kissed her hand, his eyes stopped at her exposed breasts. “Uh…”
Hermione straightened her back, causing her chest to jut out. “Fix.”
“Fine.” Alex released her hand and grabbed a portion of her shirt between her breasts.
She rolled her eyes and then moved his hand over to above one breast. Grabbing his other hand, she moved it to her other breast. He gripped the bunched up cloth and she made him pull down. The Slytherin paused as his thumbs grazed her nipples. She flinched as it tickled. He had the lightest touch. It felt like two feathers circling her areolas. She could feel goosebumps forming on her arms. One breast became heated with his breathing. She didn’t see how close he was. If he puckered his lips, they would touch her nipple. No, her head was arched back and her eyes where closed.
It was the damn collar, it wasn’t her. She held her hands straight out, afraid she was going to grab him and force him towards her.
THUMP! THUMP! THUMP!
The two snapped out of it.
Alex Mondragon grabbed her shirt and yanked down, ignoring any further skin to skin contact. He scurried away until he stood by the armoire.
Her eyes fixed on Celeste who had returned with a scowl. Hermione could feel the siren’s eyes trying to cut through the glass. The siren bared her teeth and punched the window before vanishing into the depths. Hermione figured that the siren’s eyesight underwater was much better than a humans. She had probably been watching, just out of sight for Hermione. If the siren was going to continue interrupting, it might become a problem.
She touched her collar, wondering how many ‘points’ that had earned.
“I’m sorry if I touched you inappropriately.” Alex pulled out the jumper top. “Do you want this shrunken down too? We also should go eat before they put all the food away. I don’t like bothering the house elves if I don’t have to.”
Hermione shook her head. Looking into a standing mirror he had in the corner of the room, she ran her hands up and down the shirt clinging to her body. She even cupped her breasts and noticed they were more than a handful for her now. She turned and posed for him with hands on crooked hips.
“Glad you like it. My reducio only lasts twelve hours at the most. I’ll have to cast it again tonight.”
She pointed at him then at her shirt.
“Oh, uh, yeah. I like it too. It looks… you know how it looks.”
Hermione stomped her foot with a smile.
“Fine. It looks good, very good.”
She thought it was much better than that. She needed him to get over his shyness and raised an eye to make him continue.
“Hot, you look hot. Is that what you want to hear? I mean, it’s pretty sexy. You fill it out…” Alex puffed out air. “Like no one I’ve seen in person. You see why Celeste was jealous?”
No, Hermione thought. The siren was jealous long before. There was something else, maybe even connected to his secret at the nightstand. But she did like that he finally admitted that he found her attractive.
“We can go into town tomorrow when everyone has gone back home. There are a few places we can shop for clothes your size without having to charm them every day. We could also take the flo-network to Diagon’s Alley.”
Hermione perked up. She didn’t know there was a connection to Hogsmead. But then again, I’m sure they wouldn’t want hundreds of students walking in and out of one shop or tavern.
“I have money for both of us to take a trip, don’t worry.” Alex draped the hoodie over an arm. “I’ll hold onto this incase. I know a way to the feasting hall without having to cross the bridge, but some of the hallways down here can get chilly.”
Hermione offered her hand. Even the little things had to add up and she needed as many points as she could get. As they walked out of the room, she looked over her shoulder and Celeste had returned. She couldn’t resist sticking her tongue out at the siren.
