For some unexplainable reason, Roark felt himself close to tears, his eyes closing as his head fell back against the back of his chair. His temples were beginning to throb with another fucking headache. That was when he felt the hands on his shoulders, gently beginning to knead, and he tensed at his touch.
"Ardyn," he murmured, forcing himself to slowly relax as his eyes came open.
"You looked awful sad there for a moment. Are you alright?"
"I'm fine, Ardyn. Talking to my grandfather brought home just how much I miss him, miss the rest of the family, as well as my friends. The only downside to being an Officer in the Colonial Armed Services." He got to his feet then, stretched, then moved away from the desk, from him. "Let's go see if Harry, Fili, and Severus have returned yet, shall we?"
"Roark, wait a moment. About that night--"
Roark shook his head, forcing his lips to twist into a smile as the compad beeped. "Don't worry about it, Ardyn," he said as he moved around him to return to his desk. "I was tired, feeling beyond stressed, perhaps even a little depressed. After I left you that night, I did some serious thinking on my walk home...Yes?" he answered the call just as it beeped again.
"Roark, you need to get down to the Medical Wing right now!!"
A frisson of fear shot through him. "Fili?" he choked out.
"Damn it, Fili, I said not to scare him!" came Severus' irritated voice. "Rory," came the steadier, much calmer voice, "I need for you to come downstairs."
He drew in a deep, steady breath. "Okay. Tell me what has happened that has Fili in such a panic, but you so calm?"
"It's Harry. He's been--" That was as far as he got because Roark had already turned and taken off out of the office at a dead run.

He ran into the Medical Center's outer ward to be met by Alexei and Jordan, both of whom caught him in their arms, stopping his headlong flight.
"LET GO!!" he demanded.
"Not until you calm down and listen to us," Jordan tightened his hold around him, feeling his terror all too well, even though his empathy was nowhere near as strong as some of the others. "Roark," he said insistently, "he's fine."
"Fine?" he choked out, freezing against them. panicked silver eyes finally looking at each of them.
"Yes," Alexei answered softly, to quiet him further. "Some Terminator got in a lucky shot. It grazed Harry's left side, along his ribs."
The door to the inner ward slid open and Severus came out, drying his hands on a towel, and shaking his head. "I told Fili to CALMLY tell you to report down here, but as soon as we got Harry's uniform shirt off, he--"
"Panicked," Alexei said with a shake of his own head. "Said you were going to kill us."
A dark brow shot up. "Can I please see my brother?" came as calmly as he could manage, his heart still beating far too fast.
"I word first. I gave him something for the pain, so he's likely to be a little...out of it. The laser shot caught him in a straight line along his ribs. He'll be good as new in about a secton {week}. I'm going to make a healing paste to put on it, then it'll need to remain covered for at least two days. If he falls asleep on you, let him rest."
"Alright," he said as Jordan and Alexei released him. "Anything else?" he demanded, looking up into Severus' calm gaze, which only served to settle him further.
"Go on then, he's in room three."
Roark immediately moved to enter the Inner Ward and saw Fili standing outside a room three doors down, head down, eyes closed. Roark went to him and lay a hand on his arm. "Are you okay?"
His eyes opened and blue met silver. "No, not really," came his answer. "Sorry, Rory, I didn't mean to scare you."
"It's alright, Fi. Tell me what happened."
"We were on our way back. Three Terminators came from two separate directions, all firing at us. Harry took out one of them, but one of them got a lucky shot across his ribs. Severus and I took care of the two that remained, then--"
"Rory, oh...hh Ro...ry," came the almost sing-song voice of his brother, making Fili grin. "Come in, come in, little brother."
Roark arched a brow, looking at Fili's amused face. "He's higher than a kite, isn't he?"
"You know as well as I do how pain meds affect him."
"That I--"
"Get your adorable ass in here, little brother."
Oh, Kobol," Roark breathed, turning and entering the room, Fili behind him, to see his brother flat on his back, a white cotton bandage taped to his side. He was humming a no-nonsense song.
"There you are!" he exclaimed, his dazed emerald eyes falling on him. "I've been looking all over for you."
"Have you then?" he asked, moving to his side. "Oh no you don't, brother," he said when Harry made to sit up and pull him into a hug.
Harry pouted, his eyes tearing up suddenly. "But I want a hug. I've been wounded, you know."
"I do know, and I will be glad to give you all the hugs you want later, for now, you will just have to settle for this," he bent to press his lips to his brow, feeling the warmth of a slight fever.
"Rabastan's going to be so...oo pissed."
"Will he?" Fili asked as he pulled a chair close to the bed and sat. "Why?"
"OH! Hey Fi, didn't see you. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine. Why will Rabastan Lestrange be pissed?" he asked, watching Roark remove the tape, looking under the bandage.
"Uh ha. He'll be royally pissed that someone took a shot at me. Good thing one of you killed the bastard, or he'd have been in for it."
Roark shook his head as he re-taped the edges of the bandage. The laser burn looked ugly, but it would heal. "Hadrian James, you lay your head down on that pillow," came sternly.
"But I don't wanna," he whined. "I want up."
"What you want and what you will get are two totally separate things, my brother," he told him, placing his hands on his shoulders and pushing back down. "Come on now, Harry, lay your head down. Relax. Let the meds work."
"I don't like how they make me feel, Rory."
"I know you don't. Go to sleep, and when you wake, they'll have worn off."
Harry settles back against his pillow, his eyes already slipping closed as Roark pulled the sheet and light blanket up over him. "Stay?"
"I'm not leaving your side," came his promise as Harry finally relaxed completely and fell asleep at once. "Fili?" he turned his head, silver eyes turning hard, cold. "Send a message back to Tom Riddle. Enough is enough. You hurt us, we're going to hurt you right back. I don't care what you...pick, but make the message very clear."
Fili gave him a savage grin. "I'll just go get the team together, shall I? I know just where to go to send our message loud and clear."

A hand wrapped around his wrist, yanking him sharply into a small side room of the Pleasure House they were currently in the process of clearing. "What--"
"Is he alright?" came the furious growl as he stepped into the light.
A dark brow arched as dark blue eyes moved over him. "Rabastan Lestrange, I assume?"
"You would assume correctly, Colonel Jordan. Now, is Harry alright?" he demanded, his tone harsh.
"He's fine. Sleeping off the pain meds he was given as we speak. Roark is with him. Tell me why you care?"
"I assume they told you what happened between us?"
His head tilted as he met those sherry eyes. Well, Harry was certainly right about one thing. Rabastan Lestrange was one good-looking son of a bitch. "They did, and you, Lestrange, are not at ALL what you seem."
"Aren't I?" came back coolly. "So sure of that, are you?"
"Well, you haven't killed me yet."
"YOU, Colonel Jordan Durin, are not my target. DO tell him I will be awaiting our next encounter with anticipation."
The door just to the left, hidden behind a curtain opened and he slid out into a hall they had not known was there. When Jordan followed mere microns {seconds} later, the hall was empty. He reached up and touched his earpiece. "Lex?"
"Here. Where are you?" came instantly.
"Hidden hallway. Come down the hall off the right of the second-floor stairs. Third room down, there"s a small outer chamber. The door is hidden behind a curtain."
"Understood. I'm on my way with some men. DO NOT explore on your own."
A snort. Of course not. He was many things, but an idiot he was not.
