I own nothing but this sordid little tale. All characters belong to J.K. Rowling. I am not making any money by writing it. I must be insane.
LEECH
A/N: Not an exciting chapter this one. You all know what happened during HBP and DH so I didn’t see the point in dragging you all through it again. It’s basically just a cross over from ch, 61. to ch. 1. (where it all started) to ch, 63.

Chapter 62
The students suffered terribly over the coming weeks. Potions was a nightmare for everyone, no matter how perfectly their potion turned out, or their attention to detail in their essays, the Potions Master would find fault.
For months Severus tried to put Kathy from his mind, but never succeeded. The hushed tones of some of the members at Order meetings told him that they too had not forgotten her, but were too afraid to mention her name in his presence for fear that he would enter a tirade of abuse at whoever was closest.
It was almost a year before the Dark Lord was finally back up to full strength again, and as much as it galled Albus, Severus, and the rest of the Order to allow it to happen, they had no choice but to wait until Harry Potter was mature enough, and strong enough to defeat him.
Voldemort was told that Kathy had died from a reaction to the uncontrollable power she’d Leeched from him. The over excess of magic had caused an imbalance in her brain, which in turn caused her brain to shut down.
It was as close to the truth as Severus and Albus could come up with. In a way she was dead, to the wizarding world at least. And the part of her that was Voldemort was dead, in a way. Though in reality it was dormant, rather than dead. Severus had adapted the potion he’d made for Kathy’s gloves and fed it to her to dampen down her Leeching powers. A strong relaxant was also added to the weekly potion that were sent to her each week that would help to keep her anger at a minimum. Another was included to keep her slightly of kilter as far as her memory was concerned, just in case the Obliviate stated to fail at any time.
Severus kept a good supply of all the potion and the Weasley twins also had the recipe. They were to take over the brewing and supply of them if and when Severus died.
As he did with everything, Severus eventually pushed Kathy from his mind. Or at least kept her locked away in a small part of his mind that he refused to access consciously. Occasionally he would wake from a dream where she was with him, he would relive their one intimate day together in those dreams, and on waking he would wipe tears from his eyes as he wiped her face from his memory.
Voldemort couldn’t have cared less about Kathy. She’d given him a brief hope for a future with her, then betrayed him. Dolohov had suffered terribly because of it. Dolohov was the imbecile who thought it might be fun to put a stolen Time Turner round her neck and send her into an uncertain future. Dolohov was the one who initiated the raid on her home the night her husband and children were murdered. Dolohov was lucky to be still breathing.
Now though, all Voldemort cared about was finding the Elder wand, defeating Harry Potter, taking over the Ministry and Hogwarts, and ruling wizarding England. He would eliminate anyone that stood in his way, and obstructed him from gaining the Elder wand.
It was the Elder wand that was the reason for Voldemort setting his snake, Nagini, on Severus. She was kept in a protective bubble, the dark Lords last horcrux, or so he thought.
Because Severus killed Dumbledore, Voldemort assumed it made Severus the true holder of the Elder wand, so he killed him to gain power over it. Little did the tyrant know that Draco Malfoy had already taken that honour when he disarmed Dumbledore that night on the Astronomy tower.
Later, when Harry relieved Draco of his wand, Harry became the true master of the Elder wand.
As Severus lay dying on the dirty floor of the Shrieking Shack, clutching Potters robes and searching the depths of those green eyes, that was when he finally allowed himself to freely remember Kathy. The chocolate brown of her eyes, the mischievous giggle, the way she constantly complained about the amount of steps leading from the dungeons. He knew she would have been heartbroken over the death of Albus, especially if she knew Severus was the one to take the old wizards life.
Occasionally one or other of the Order members would disguise themselves and check up on her, then report back to the Order that she was okay. Severus lost the opportunity to ever again hear any news of her the night he cast the Avada on the best friend he’d ever had.
Once, just once, he apparated to the end of her street. He disillusioned himself and walked until he reached the end of the terrace. There he stopped. He looked longingly at the door, down to the step scrubbed scrupulously clean, the window with it’s white, spotless net curtain that blocked his view of the inside. He pressed an ear to the glass to hear a radio playing inside, accompanied by her off key singing. He’d smiled, Kathy couldn’t hit a right note to save her life.
The times she’d sing to herself as she cleaned his office. She’d been quite annoyed one day when she began her wiping of the jars on his shelf. Cyclopes, or Jack as she fondly called the poor creature, had been left facing the wall for several weeks and she sang to it as an apology for leaving it that way.
Severus had commented at the time that that Jack would most likely prefer to stay facing the wall if it meant she wouldn’t sing.
Kathy had laughingly retorted by chasing Severus through his rooms with a wet rag, threatening to wash his mouth out with it.
Now Cyclopes sat in it’s dusty jar on an equally dusty shelf, with it’s equally dusty companions. It no longer winked at anyone, it had no reason to.
--------------
As soon as Kathy touched him, the strange, strong memories hit her again. Memories of dark eyes, heavy weights pinning her down, the sallow skinned face so close to hers.
She pulled her fingers back sharply and the memories faded as quickly as they came. The towel in her hand was soaked and she tossed it on the floor and applied a fresh one, holding it tight against the wound. This towel too became red and sodden, followed by another and another until she was out of towels. Kathy didn’t have a clue what to do next.
Again, instinct took over and she shifted positions, lifting his head and shoulders to rest on her lap. A gut feeling told her she should not let this man die, whoever her was, whatever the circumstances that brought him here.
On impulse, or maybe it was a sixth sense, she knew she was connected to him somehow, and for want of anything better, she placed a hand to each side of his neck.
She spasmed as memory after memory flooded through her mind, assaulting her psyche, filling her brain with things she’d so long felt she should know, should remember, and now wished she didn’t.
As the spasms wracked her body and senses, other things started to happen to her. She began to draw strength from somewhere, an energy that empowered her to feel emboldened, vitalising her.
At the same time, Severus could feel himself regaining consciousness, a little bit at a time, second by second, he could also feel something draining away, at the same time as something was building inside of him. A new strength, a new energy. The pain was slowly leaving him, though where the hell it was going he had no idea. Nor did he care, it was fading fast and he wasn’t yet certain if he was dead or alive. If he was alive, where was he? If he was dead, same question.
His eyes fluttered open to see a pair of unfocussed brown eyes above his.
The owner of those eyes seemed to be having some kind of fit, so much so that her spasmodic movements were shaking his head and upper torso.
It was a good five minutes before the woman holding him eventually stilled, relaxing her grip on his neck and slumping unconscious to the floor, her lower legs still tucked beneath her.
Severus realised he was laying head and shoulders on her thighs and tried to move, but for all that he felt better than he had, he couldn’t quite muster the strength to roll off of her.
Instead he fell into an exhausted sleep.
Kathy woke to find herself in bed, the covers pulled up to her chin and the feel of the mattress dipping near her legs.
“How do you feel?”
