No One Comes When You Cry
Chapter 63
Mario immediately opened the door again to see a laboratory. “Wow!” He said again, closing the door and opening it a few more times.
Severus entered the study to see Mario staring at his wife with a look of absolute awe on his face. “Did I miss something?” he drawled, one eyebrow raised in question.
Sky smiled and Mario shook his head, unable to speak and looking at the professor with wide eyes.
“I will say goodbye to my sons and we can go.”
Mario watched him disappear through another door and almost fell down in shock when he heard the triplets babbling dada and his professor babbling back at them.
“Shall we go.” Severus said, walking back into the room a few minutes later.
Sky hid her smirk and opened the lab door again, this time onto the kitchen of number 12 Grimauld Place.
“Mario.” Mrs Zabini cried, grabbing her youngest son and holding him tight before he could comment further on how Sky did that thing with the doors.
“Mum please, I need to breathe. Mario pleaded, enjoying the hug but embarrassed that they were being watched.
“Hello son.” Mr Zabini said, wanting to hold his son also, but unsure of the boys reaction.
“Dad? Are we … is it … “ Mario was pulled into another bone breaking hug and this time he did not care who saw them, he hugged his father just as tightly.
“Hey bro.” Blaize chipped in as he walked into the kitchen.
Mario turned adoringly to his older brother, none of them noticing that everyone else had left the room to give them some privacy.
Even Severus had felt a modicum of nauseating cheer for the reunited family. Not that he would admit it of course.
When the family entered the drawing room Severus turned to Mr Zabini.
“I take it you have considered my wife’s offer. Have you come to a decision?”
“I have, I would like to have it removed as you did. May I see your arm?”
Severus scowled but pulled up his sleeve to show the smooth, unblemished skin. “Mr Zabini, the offer was not to remove the mark, it would take too much out of my wife. What she will do however is to deactivate it, ensuring you will never be summoned again.”
Severus snatched his arm back when Mr Zabini stroked the skin in awe.
“I am sorry professor, it was just something of a surprise to see your arm looking so … normal. But if the deactivation is what is on offer, then I accept gratefully. I can live with the … argh.” He exclaimed, gripping his arm as it suddenly started burning.
Sky looked at Severus and he nodded.
“Will you come with me Mr Zabini.” She closed and opened the door and quickly led him through to the wall living room. “Please, sit down and I will explain a little of what I need to do.”
Zabini sat on the sofa, staring around him amazed and at his arm that had stopped burning as suddenly as it started. “Where are we? How did …?”
“It doesn’t matter where we are Mr Zabini, the fact is that the mark is not affected here. What I am going to do to you will be painful, but you will not have any scarring and you will still have the mark. I will give you potions and you will be fastened to the bed, your arm in a harness. You will have to trust me Mr Zabini.”
Zabini looked at the young woman in front of him. He’d heard so many stories about her, who she was, the power she had, even now she seemed to radiate it. She had married Snape and that alone was a brave feat in his eyes. “Mrs Snape, if you are going to do this wondrous thing for me, then please, call me Alberto. Now what do I have to do first?”
“First Mr … Alberto, you need to follow me.”
Sky led him down the steps into the potions lab, asked him to remove his shirt and lie on the bed. She fastened his arm into the harness and the strap around his hips. “You will we asleep, but the pain will be such that even unconscious you will react to it. When you wake up, there will be some paralysis for a while. Since doing Severus’ mark I’ve managed to refine the length of time you will be affected some, but it could be anything from a few hours to a couple of days. It will include your legs. Do you still wish to go ahead?”
Alberto paled slightly but nodded his head. “What if I am summoned before you can complete the procedure?”
“You cannot be summoned here, you have just experienced what happened the moment you stepped through that door. No one can breech this place with magic, nor can it be traced from here. Please drink this.”
“What is it?”
Sleeping, pain and healing potion. Plus a small amount of paralysing additive. Drink.”
Alberto obeyed, slightly taken aback at her order. He was about to comment on the pleasant taste when blackness overtook him.
Sky went to the workbench and summoned what she needed. Working quickly, she put the silver cauldron to warm and made a small amount of the potion she’d used on Severus. She didn’t think about where the ingredients came from, they weren’t labelled, merely there and Sky knew they were what she needed to use. Shannon’s charm prevented her from being curious about them and she concentrated instead on what she needed to do. She followed the same ritual as she had with Severus, working quicker this time since she was not pregnant and did not have the worry of thinking of what she needed to do to get said ingredients. Also because she was not removing the mark, the procedure took hours, rather than almost a full day like before. Sky was still tired when she finished, but she cleaned and dressed his arm, fed him a strong pain potion and settled on the small bed that Effy had previously conjured for her.
Severus found her asleep and went to take a peek under Zabini’s dressing, wondering if he would see a difference. He pulled a face at the blooded mess beneath and moved over to his wife, sitting on the narrow bed and stroking her head.
“Hello.” She yawned, stretching and looking at him sleepily.
“Hello yourself. Any problems, or did it go according to plan?”
“Actually it went fine. It was much easier to do than yours.”
“Really?”
“Mm hm. I didn’t have to remove it so it was quicker too, still tiring though. It’s not something I’d want to do on a regular basis. I‘m hungry.”
“I’ll go get us some lunch from the kitchen while you check on him. It looks a bit messy under that bandage.”
Sky removed the dressing and washed the arm. Once the dried blood and painted potion was cleaned away it did not look too bad, merely inflamed and a bit red around the edges of the mark itself.
Sky left the dressing off rubbed on a bit of salve and went upstairs to use the bathroom before she ate.
“He’ll be fine. He can wake up naturally and apart from being a bit uncomfortable and maybe some paralysis, he can go back to Headquarters to recover. Mrs Zabini can have the honour of running about after him.” She tucked into the chicken soup and bread rolls as though she had not eaten in a week.
“Did you check on the boys?”
“I did, and they are just fine. Clearly they are enamoured of me since they are constantly shouting dada.” He said with a superior air.
Sky pouted and punched him on the arm. “You wait till they learn to say mum, they’ll forget how to say dada.
“They will not, I will be reminding them every day who I am. Now, shall we check in on your patient?”
“Alberto, oh I forgot all about him.” She stood from the table and dashed off to the lab, while Severus followed scowling. “Since when did he become Alberto?” He demanded.
“Since this morning, he was grateful to me for what I was doing.” She told him, as a phial flew into her hand.
“How grateful?” He growled, noticing the arm looked much better than when he‘d looked under the dressing.
Sky looked at him exasperated. “Severus, he only asked me to use his name, that’s all.” She lifted Zabini’s head and carefully fed him the phial of potion.
Zabini opened his eyes a bit and saw a blur of black and grey in front of him. “Oh I feel terrible.” he groaned.
“It will pass.” Severus said haughtily.
“It will wear off in a minute Alberto, just rest your eyes for now. Are you in pain?”
“I have no idea, ask me when my head had cleared.”
“You should be.” Severus mumbled quietly as he moved to the workbench.
Sky heard him and threw a glare at his back as she walked over to him. “That was mean, why did you say that?” She hissed.
“So sorry, did I upset Alberto?” He said the name as though it was a rude word.
“Severus I hope you’re not getting jealous again.” Sky looked at him warily, unsure if he was serious or not.
Seeing the look on her face he relaxed and pulled her close. “Yes I am, but it is my problem, not yours. Go on, wake him up properly and we can get him back to his family.”
Sky was relieved and turned back to Alberto. “Feeling any better?”
“I think so, my arm, the mark. Did it work?” he asked, not really expecting her to say yes.
“Of course it worked. Give me a minute.” She ran upstairs and checked Voldemort in the mirror, but he was sleeping restlessly so she closed him off.
Severus used Levi corpus to bring Zabini up the stairs. His legs were completely numb and he was unable to lift either of his arms.
“You know Snape, you have an amazing wife. Have you never felt the summons at all since she removed your mark?”
“Not once Zabini. You can look forward to the same privilege until he is defeated.”
“Snape I have to tell you, he is making plans, plans to attack Hogwarts in the summer. He wants your children. He wants … ”
“We are aware of his plans Zabini. How do you think we knew to find your youngest son and discover your own loyalties. Something else you can be grateful to my wife for.”
“Your wife, but how?”
“You have a lot of questions Zabini, suffice it to say she is something of an enigma. Amazing, but an enigma all the same. I will tell you no more.”
Sky blushed at her husbands compliments and smiled at him. “Shall we go?” She asked, opening the kitchen door to Headquarters.
Sky gave Mrs Zabini a jar of salve and several small phials. “Rub the cream in every few hours until the inflammation is gone. The potion is to be taken each morning and evening. It might take a while for him to get the feeling back in his limbs, but it will come. I can provide you with strengthening potions as the paralysis wears off.”
Sky was a bit surprised when the woman grabbed her and gave her a big hug. “Thank you Chiquita.” She said. “Thank you so much. We shall be forever in your debt.”
Sky blushed and pulled away. “Your welcome Mrs Zabini, but my name is Sky.”
Mrs Zabini laughed. “I know Chiquita, I know. And I bless you for being who you are.”
When Sky and Severus returned to there rooms she asked him why Mrs Zabini insisted on calling her Chiquita.
“It is a term of endearment, the woman was overcome and gave you a name she associates with a loved one or family member.”
Sky didn’t know what to say to that so she said nothing. “You know Mario is a very nice boy.”
“They are a nice family as a whole, it is just a shame that Zabini was sucked into the realm of the Dark Lord as I was.”
Severus, I’ve noticed he’s been sleeping a lot lately, taking all those potions is having an effect on him. I think we should pay him a visit sometime soon and get this over with.”
“I agree, but I would prefer to wait until the students are gone and our children secure before we make a move, as an added precaution. According to Kingsley, Voldemort plans to strike on the 31st July. I suggest we wait as long as possible, he is weakening all the time and the closer to that date we confront him, the better for us. Apparently he no longer wants me dead. Instead I am to be taken to him so I can provide the necessary potions to relieve him of his pain. Should I refuse, I am to be beaten and cursed and our children tortured until I acquiesce.”
Sky was horrified, her eyes filled with tears at the thought of anyone hurting her children or Severus. “He wants to harm my babies?” She asked incredulously. “My little boys?”
Severus stepped the distance between them and held her. “He will not get anywhere near our children, do not worry.”
Sky broke away from him and went to the nursery to look at them. They were all sat round an array of toys that drifted tantalizingly close to them, only to me teased away by Effy and Spin. The boys chuckled heartily, every so often reaching out as one and claiming their prize.
Mad as hell now, Sky spun and pushed passed Severus, knocking him to one side and heading for the wall and the nearest mirror where she brought up the image of Voldemort.
As soon as he appeared, still in bed and half awake she aimed her wand directly at him and screamed ‘CRUCIO’.
Severus, who had followed her stared dumbstruck as the tyrant screamed and writhed helplessly. He winced at the sheer volume of his screams as Sky held the curse on him.
Bones cracked audibly and her eyes flashed darkly, her stone and wand both held the same blood red glow for a full ten minutes before Severus laid a hand gently on her arm.
“Sky, I know you are angry, I am too. But this is not what you do, not who you are.”
“He threatened my babies Severus, he threatened you. I am a mother and a mother fights for her children. There was a time when I would have relented, let him live because I wanted him to love me. I would have given him my love Severus, but not now. Now I want him to suffer before he dies. I want him to feel what he would have our children feel, have you feel. I want him to know the pain I have suffered in my life before I kill him. You want me to wait, I will wait Severus, but do not expect me to wait patiently. I intend to make him aware of every single day until I see him face to face.”
Voldemort was just stirring from his pain filled sleep. The latest potion he’d tried was marginally better then what he’d taken so far. But he needed Snape here. Only Snape was capable of brewing something strong enough, effective enough to relieve his pain and not send him comatose at the same time. He was about to call Wormtail to assist him from the bed when he heard a distant voice. He thought it shouted crucio, he did not have chance to think further however when he was gripped with the mightiest pain yet. His blood boiled in his veins, his muscles tightened unbearably and his bones began to break. It seemed a lifetime before the curse ended and he was still in agony when it did. He had no strength to call his minion and lay in agony for several hours, his bed soaked with his own excrement before the rat man appeared with his evening meal to find his master in a terrible state.
“Sky, there is also the problem of the horcrux’s. So far with the help of the Order, Potter and his friends have found all but two. What and where those two are we have no idea.” Severus said. “Without destroying those horcrux’s, there is always a way for him to return.
She stared at him blankly for a moment, then moved to the bookshelf. She grabbed books on dark charms, blood magic and dark knowledge. Pressing them onto Severus, she went down the steps, only to return minutes later with a large tome bound in … “Dear Gods, is that human skin?” he asked, staring at the book.
“Yes and it, along with the three you have are going to help us find those damned horcrux’s.” She opened the door to the study, only to be pulled back when Severus grabbed her arm.
“What?” She snapped.
“Do not raise your voice to me wife. Ever. The books will have to be studied in here, especially that one. We cannot risk having something escaping from the pages when the children are nearby.”
She slumped. “I’m sorry. I just get so mad when I think of what he might do to them, to you. Your right, they’ll have to stay here.”
“Correct. For now though, you will leave them alone. You are not in a fit state of mind to start looking for ways to find a horcrux’s. Instead we shall take the opportunity to take the boys into Hogsmead. Effy can join us for the afternoon in case they decide to summon something they are not allowed.”
After a light lunch, the couple set off on the road to Hogsmead, Severus proudly taking control of the buggy.
They’d barely entered the village before they were surrounded by students, mostly older girls and many offering to take the boys off their hands for the afternoon.
“Enough.” Severus growled. “Go about your business all of you, and leave us alone to enjoy our time together.”
The students scattered and Sky gave him a poke in the ribs with her elbow. “That was mean Severus. They only wanted to see the boys.”
“I know, but this is our time. I see enough of those dunderheads in the classroom, I refuse to have to put up with them during my time off.”
First stop was Honeydukes for several bars of dark chocolate. Sky added some chocolate buttons for the little ones, much to Severus’ chagrin but she insisted.
Sky wanted to go into Madam Puddifoots but Severus outright refused. Instead Effy was sent to the Three Broomsticks to ask if a quiet room was available so they could take the children in.
Madam Rosmerta immediately cleared out the small lounge area, clearing it of smoke and escorted them in personally, welcoming them both and making a big fuss of the babies.
A short while later they were joined by Minerva and Filius who were on student duty that weekend.
When Filius drew out a long stemmed pipe and prepared to light it, Minerva slapped it from his hand. “Are you mad Filius, there are babies in here.”
The little man blushed and apologised profusely, but before he could retrieve it and put it away, Alex, Paul and Tony had it in their now grubby little hands and were pulling it apart.
Effy had gone to Rosmerta’s kitchen to visit with the elves there and no one had noticed the boys summon the pipe until it was too late.
“I’m really sorry Professor. I’ll buy you a new one.” Sky told him while Severus tried to grapple what was left of the pipe from six chocolate sticky hands.
“No need my dear, I have plenty more. And please call me Filius, as Severus’ wife you do not need to address me as professor.”
When Rosmerta appeared with a fresh round of drinks, she laughed at the chocolate smeared babies and brought a bowl of warm water, cloth and towel and happily set to cleaning them up.
“There you go, we can see those lovely faces again.”
Alex took that opportunity to grab Rosmerta’s top and pull it to his mouth for chewing, revealing her barely covered breasts to all.
Many red faces later Severus decided it was time to take the boys and return to Hogwarts.
They were of course followed back by a group of seventh years girls, all eager to offer to push the buggy.
Sky nudged Severus and gave him a look. Eventually he relented and allowed them to take the boys on ahead, with dire warnings of what he would do to them if they so much as bumped the buggy over a pebble.
The students agreed fearfully, then scooted off with the buggy, arguing over who’s turn it was next to push.
“Severus stop worrying. They only want a chance to see the boys, not eat them. They’re getting more aware of things and people all the time, I think it’s good for them to interact with others. Poppy said children need lots of people round them, that it’s good for them to socialise.”
He frowned. It did not matter that she was right, they were his sons and it was his duty to protect them. “We are their parents, not poppy. As such it is for me … us to decide what is best for them.”
“I know that, but Poppy is their Godmother and she cares about them Severus. Anyway listen to them, I can hear them laughing from here.”
By the time everyone reached the gates of Hogwarts the boys were asleep and covered in chocolate again.
The girls all tried to look innocent when Severus saw the chocolate covered faces and scowled at them. Sky however thanked the girls for taking care of the boys and Grabbed Severus’ arm and the buggy, trying to steer him to the dungeons before he said anything.
