Festive Treats
Harry had only been doing this for fifteen minutes, and already he was covered in flour and regretting his decision to do some baking with the kids. The six year old sextuplets were particularly energetic and riled up.
“Errai, honey, be careful with those eggs.”
“Okay, Mum!”
Harry watched him a little more closely, but with so many kids underfoot to keep an eye on he was inevitably distracted again.
He had both sets of triplet girls, Loren and Gage, the sextuplets, and a two year old Lyran in a special stool for toddlers that looked like a little siege tower that could be pulled up to the counter to keep him safe, even as he joined in with the family baking.
Caronwen would join them later, once she had woken up from her nap, but the kids had been driving his mates mad, so Harry had announced that he was going to do some baking, and he would like some little helpers. Of course all of the kids at home, except for his Faerie twins who were still too entranced with their poinsettia, had charged into the kitchen ahead of him.
He was now regretting his decision, but his mates would get a bit of a break, he would have fun, and get some biscuits out of it too. That made him smile as he tried to instruct the kids to make the biscuit dough.
“Right, Errai, Eiren, crack me some eggs.” He said, watching them as they did this as carefully as six year olds could…Harry had to spend five minutes fishing pieces of shell out of the bowl.
Harry was the one to cut the dough in half, and then he wrapped it up in beeswax cloth and popped it in the fridge to chill for an hour.
“Right, while that is chilling, let’s make some cakes.”
His kids all cheered, and Harry smiled. This wasn’t so bad. He was enjoying himself, and so were the kids.
The older triplet girls, who were only home because Neave had had a Quidditch accident and her sisters had drove Minerva mad, were able to knock out fairy cakes on their own, with only minimal supervision, but for his younger kids, it was a mess, and it was cooling down tempers before they became tantrums as everyone took turns adding things to the bowl, and all of them getting a chance to mix it, even little Lyran.
Harry was thankful that Max had demanded the biggest oven they could find, as he put all of the tins of cakes in at once and sent the kids off to play for a few minutes just so that he could attempt to clean up a little before the mess that was decorating everything ensued.
Without the kids he was able to punch out the Christmas shapes in the biscuit dough and line them up on trays ready to go into the oven next. He also wanted to do a Christmas cake, which the kids didn’t really like, but he and his mates really did. It was nice to have something just to themselves, without needing to share too much of it.
“Kids, the cakes are done!” He called out, after he’d let them cool down, and put his biscuits in the oven.
He’d already set up the ‘festive’ decorating station, with red and green icing, a multitude of sprinkles from white snowflakes to snowmen, Santa hats, and holly leaves, there was everything his little ones could want. He had decorated a few himself, just to give them ideas, as if they needed them, but still…
Max came out with the kids, likely to spy on his kitchen to check the damage, but he was smiling as he carried Ellette and a sleepy Caronwen.
“Lyran’s down for the count, whatever you did knocked him right out.” Max informed him.
Harry smiled as he held a little cake up to Max. He took their daughters and set Ellette down as she squirmed and complained about wanting to decorate cakes, but he kept Caronwen and Max took the little cake and moaned around it.
“Perfect, as always, my love.” Max declared, and Harry smiled and pulled his biggest mate down into a kiss.
“Biscuits will be done soon, and then I’ll sort out the Christmas cake.”
“I knew it! I told the others that you were doing one when you asked me to get you marzipan.”
“I’ve got to treat my mates as well as my babies.” Harry said with a grin.
“Yes. Yes you do.” Max teased.
Harry shooed him out of the kitchen and he went back to supervising the kids as they decorated the little cakes. He placed Caronwen in Lyran’s little stool tower and he helped her to decorate a few cakes so that she was involved, despite the fact that she hadn’t actually made the cakes.
He wore them completely out for his mates, even as he gave them all a cake each and told them to be good as he closed the last airtight container and turned to his cooled biscuits. It was his turn to decorate now, as he picked up the piping bag and crouched over the first one. It would take him an eternity to do them all, but he liked doing it, and they would have guests over who liked his biscuits, and he would send some to his kids who had flown the nest for a little taste of home. He smiled and kept an ear out for the timer on his Christmas cake, even as he meticulously decorated his infamous vanilla biscuits.
The kids were done with baking and they wouldn’t come back now, so he would be left in peace to finish off his Christmas baking. He smiled as he looked across the counters that were filled with delicious treats. He really did love Christmas with a proper family. With his family.

A/N: Day five and what little Christmas period is complete without some home baking? Of course Harry probably wishes he didn’t have so many kids around him, but what’s a bit of mess, a few dropped eggs, and sticky fingers compared to the happiness of sweet little babies?
