"Did you see the look in his eyes?" Severus asked Hermione who buried her face in his chest and nodded.

"He's been thinking more about it as it draws closer, and it's... I knew he would sooner or later say what was really on his mind."

"He's just afraid, Severus... I don't know from personal experience of course, but the idea of it has got to be more than nerve racking." Hermione said.

Severus sighed and tried to keep the tears for Adrien from welling up in his eyes. He suddenly understood why Adrien was so good at hiding his own pain behind a personality that could make even Severus blush. It was a coping mechanism; a way to deal with the way he knew his life would turn out. It killed Severus on the inside to know that Adrien would sooner or later, be alone. But then it dawned on him...

"Maybe Adrien doesn't have to be alone in the long run..." he thought aloud.

Hermione peeked her head up to look at him; questions in her eyes. "What do you mean?"

"Well... Perhaps if he was to have a child with Luna... That child would also inherit the Seraphim trait of not aging past twenty years." he replied thoughtfully.

"You should talk to him, Severus. See how he feels about the idea of children? Maybe that could be your gift to Adrien? Let him know you're ready to be a grandfather?" Hermione supplied.

Severus groaned at the word 'grandfather', but smiled in spite of himself as he hugged Hermione closer. The more he thought about it, the more he felt that maybe it would indeed make Adrien happy to know that Severus was okay with being a grandfather.

"I don't want to live forever, Luna..." Adrien groaned, burying his face in his pillow. Luna looked at his black-clad form and laughed at how he blended in with his bedding.

"Chances are you won't live forever, Adrien... Just.. Longer than most.." she shrugged moving over to lay next to him.

"It might as well be forever." he said turning his head to look at her. He took in just how beautiful Luna was, and it made the cold inside seem even more abundant. Adrien hated the depressed feeling he was having on the inside. Even though it was always there, he was usually pretty good at hiding it away, and for a while there, he even had himself convinced that he was just a normal wizard.

Just then, a knock came at his bedroom door. Grumbling, Adrien rose from his place on his bed next to Luna and pulled the door open to see Severus standing there. He had an odd expression on his face that Adrien was unsure what to make of. He smiled seeing it.

"What?" he asked, wanting to laugh.

Severus took a deep breath. "Er. I thought you and I might go out together? Just for an hour or two. I'd like to discuss some things with you."

"Sure... Where do you want to go? What about Luna and Hermione?"

"Hermione has expressed interest in going to London for a while. Says she wants to do some... Shopping, and Luna is welcome to join her."

"Okay then... Is that okay, Luna?" Adrien asked over his shoulder.

"Well, yes. Go on. I'll go with Hermione." Luna answered sweetly.

Without another word, Severus grabbed hold of Adrien's arm and apparated out of the house.

"Where are we?" Adrien asked looking around. The scenery was unfamiliar, but beautiful. It appeared they were behind a wall of willow trees in a large clearing with a small pond in the center of it. But that wasn't the only attraction. Everywhere Adrien looked there seemed to be thousands of dragonflies in every color you could possibly imagine, and there were lush red roses, and other colorful flowers littering the place.

"I'll never tell." Severus smirked. "This is a place I used to come when I was in dire need of a quiet thought."

"So why are we here? Not that I'm complaining... It's beautiful, but I can't help but wonder if there isn't a double meaning." Adrien said, now staring at his father.

"I wanted to talk to you about earlier, and well... The rest of your life?"

Adrien groaned. "Oh, I fucking knew it. I'd much prefer to forget it right now, dad. My twentieth birthday is creeping up, and it's scares me. Okay? All I can think about when I close my eyes is you dying, Hermione dying, and... Luna dying. I know I shouldn't, but I can't help it."

"Adrien... Come with me." Severus said. Not waiting for a reply, he turned to walk through the willow trees around the small clearing.

Adrien stood next to Severus as they peeked through the hanging branches. It seemed that the area was in the middle of a huge abandoned field.

"What are we looking at?" Adrien asked quietly.

"Just wait for it." Severus replied softly.

Adrien stood puzzled for a moment longer before a large pack of adult deer came bounding across the field. There were dozens of them.

"Deer?" Adrien asked. Severus pointed, and Adrien moved his eyes to where his father was pointing, and saw a doe and a stag hanging behind the rest of the group, seeming to be ushering their two fawns along. Adrien smiled, finally getting the point of this strange, but admittedly beautiful outing.

"Remember I told you if you made me a grandfather before I was ready, I would hex the living fuck out of you?" Severus asked, turning to his son with a small smile on his face.

Adrien nodded slowly.

"Well, I think it's up to you now when you would like to have children. It doesn't have to be tomorrow, but... I want you to know that when you're ready, I am also ready." Severus said, pulling his son into his embrace. "You won't be alone forever, Adrien. So don't worry about that part of it all. You will have someone else in your life who means just as much to you as Hermione, Luna, and myself do now. This, I can promise you. I thought my heart couldn't love after Lily, but you helped me change my mind. So, I wanted to help you change yours. Things will be just fine. You showed me that."

Adrien nodded against Severus's shoulder. He hadn't really given much thought to children, but he knew his father had a point. If he was to have children of his own, he wouldn't be alone forever. His children would have his grand children, and they too would probably live to be quite old.

"Alright then. I dare say Luna and I will make quite the good looking family." he laughed.

Severus released his son and smirked. "There's that award-winning personality. Just keep that in mind, but I will say... Don't just spring it on Luna. She also requires time, Adrien."

"What about you and Hermione? Will you have children?" Adrien asked as he and his father walked back into the clearing full of multi-colored dragonflies.

"I don't know, Adrien... Why? I'm much too old to have any more children."

"You act like you're ninety." Adrien laughed. "I wouldn't mind having a brother. Or a sister. Or both. Perhaps when Hermione graduates from Uni. As much as I've enjoyed it over the years... I don't want it to be just us anymore."

Severus smiled slightly at the thought as he held out his hand for Adrien to take to apparate them back. "Perhaps some day, Adrien, but for now, we'll just live our lives. Okay?"

"Okay." Adrien agreed. Taking one last look around the beautiful place, he took his father's outstretched hand, and they soon found themselves back in Spinner's End.
