CH 68 Draco’s final attempt
“I’m fine thanks Headmaster. It feels a bit strange though, being back here.” Lou said.
“You will soon adjust I am sure. Are you both settled in your quarters Severus, or would you prefer the elves enlarge them for you?”
“Our room are adequate thank you, my wife will be retaining her own rooms, and I shall remain in mine. I have decided that we shall return to a pre-Binding relationship until her education is complete, I do not wish to have the Ministry on my back for consorting with a student.”
“Severus, Louhi is your wife.” Albus reminded him when he saw the conflicting expressions on Lou’s face.
“She is also my student Albus; I have already had one letter from the ministry objecting to the Binding, I would prefer not to give them an excuse to further encourage their interference.”
“I see your point. Speaking of which, the Minister has asked to be informed when you return, they are eager to know the details of Voldemort’s demise. You are both heroes now.”
“I have no desire to be a hero Albus, you know that. As far as the Minister is concerned, we cannot tell him the whole truth, no one must know of the Sampo’s existence.”
“I am aware of that; I was hoping we might come up with an alternative tale to keep them happy. After you have both given me the details of course, I am eager to know what happened.”
“You mean the Prime Minister?” Lou asked gobsmacked.
“Eventually, I dare say he would also like to meet you both, this time I am speaking of the Minister of Magic, the wizarding world’s equivalent of the muggle Prime Minister.” Albus told her.
“Wow. Severus the …erm I mean Professor, the Minister, he has to be important hasn’t he? You might get a medal or something, won‘t that be cool?”
At his glare, she shut up and turned away, looking to Albus instead. “Please may I go now Headmaster, I have to erm …I need to unpack and —
things.” She lied.
“Yes Louhi you may, I believe you are expecting a new arrival quite soon.”
“Yes Sir. I was a bit surprised when I found out, I didn’t think that …well, you know.”
“Off you go, I dare say your friends will be eager to see you at lunch.”
Lou left quickly, not daring to look at Severus now.
Severus stared at her open mouthed, unable to speak. ’How could that have happened? Moreover, how would Albus know before me? It was impossible for her to be … especially this quick.
As soon as she left the room he looked at the Headmaster. “New arrival? Albus, it is not possible, you know that.”
“I was referring to Kreatcher and Pegnose Severus; they have an elfin now, and named after Louhi I believe. They called her Melaina.”
Severus scowled at the old man, who was looking back at him with twinkling eyes and a noticeable smile on his lips.
“I do not find it amusing Albus, especially considering the circumstances. My wife is well aware that she cannot bare children.”
“Ah yes, I forgot about that. I am sorry.” Albus looked remorseful. “It was unforgivable of me.”
As Severus told Albus what occurred the day of the ceremony, and how they would tell the Ministry the Binding was an excuse to get into Voldemort’s good books ready for assassinating him, Lou was back down in the dungeons waiting for the bell to ring that meant morning classes were over.
She wondered if she would adjust to this new relationship between Severus and her. She’d barely come to terms with the last one, everything had been so crazy for so long now. They went from enemies to acquaintances, to friends for a while, then so many other things she was confused.
When she broke the original Binding and they began anew, she thought things were starting to go well, apart from the ceremony day.
Now she was back to square one, regardless of the fact Severus told her he loved her, that this was the best way to go about things, she felt like part of her was missing. If it was hard now, surely it was gonna get harder. ’Maybe he regrets marrying me, maybe he really wants children and this is his way of letting things cool off between us. He didn’t want to listen when I tried to talk to him earlier, and that look he gave me upstairs.’ She shivered at the memory.
When the bell went to signal the end of class, she nervously went to the door that led into the dungeons corridor. What if her friends weren’t her friends any more? Lou went back into her rooms and decided to make her own lunch. ’I’m not running away, I’m just …putting it off for a while.’ She told herself.
Just as she was about to sit at the table with a sandwich, Severus and Albus stepped through her floo, making her jump.
“Oh er hi, I was just having something to eat. Is something wrong?”
“Possibly the fact that you are expected to eat in the Great Hall with the rest of us.” Severus told her sternly. “Leave that where it is and come with us.”
“You have no need to hide Louhi; your friends have missed you terribly.” Albus said.
“Really? I wasn‘t too sure.”
“They have indeed, shall we go, I am ravenous and food awaits us.”
Lou took one last longing look at her sandwich and followed the two wizards into the corridor. When they crossed the main hall, she was still lagging behind and still nervous about meeting her friends again. ‘You’re being stupid Lou, stop it.’ She told herself. ‘Bloody hell you’ve just helped kill the biggest ruddy wanker known to the wizarding world and you’re scared of meeting your friends.’
She was so intent on her thoughts that she walked straight into Severus’ chest.
He’d heard her thoughts clearly, stopped and turned to confront her about them.
“Oof! Sorry, I didn’t realised you’d stopped. Sir.” She added.
“I noticed. Detention, tomorrow after supper Madam Snape. I believe you know the reason why.”
Lou lifted her face to his, baffled until she realised he’d listened in to her thoughts again. She turned red and looked away. “Yes Sir.” She answered glumly.
Albus opened the doors to the Great Hall and they stepped through. As soon as they did there were loud cheers and applause, the students from all four houses were stood either on the floor, the seats or the tables. Hoots and whistles that deafened the trio of two Professors and one student.
Albus smiled and continued to the head table, Severus glared just a little and followed him, while Lou turned beet red and turned to run from the hall.
“Oh no you don’t.” Ginny and Hermione both told her as they each grabbed her and hugged her in turn.
“We’ve been desperate to see you for the last two weeks.” Ginny said.
“And we did not believe the tale the Headmaster spun either.” Hermione added. “Don’t you dare run away from us Lou.”
She was hugged again by both of them, Harry came to join them and hugged her too.
Lou was overwhelmed and cried as she hugged them back, relieved that her fears about her friends had been unfounded.
She made her way to the Slytherin table, receiving pats and slaps on the back as she went.
Her girlfriends were delighted to see her, all of them pulling her into a group hug, telling her how much they missed her, how worried they were, how did she kill you-know-who. Questions bombarded her from every direction until the Headmasters shout.
“Silence.”
The hall fell quiet as everyone took their seats.
Lou was about to sit down when Bernie nudged her.
“Lou, I think the Headmaster wants you up there.” She said, nodding her head in the direction of the head table.
Lou turned her head in that direction and gulped as Albus beckoned her forward, his eyes twinkling and a beaming smile on his face.
She made her way towards the front of the hall and stopped in front of him.
He was standing with the rest of the staff in front of the head table and held out a welcoming hand to her.
Her eyes flicked to Severus for a moment but his face was devoid of expression so she had no way of knowing what he was feeling right now.
“Headmaster? You wanted to see me.” Lou said nervously.
“Indeed I do, stand here.” He said kindly, positioning her between himself and Severus.
Albus raised his hand and the hall fell silent once more.
“I know you are all aware that Voldemort is no more. I know that many of you also know who is responsible for his demise, but for those of you who do not; I give you Professor and Madam Snape.”
The hall once more erupted into applause, but it soon died down as they realised how the headmaster addressed Lou.
“I also take great pleasure in announcing officially, the Binding of Professor Snape, and Miss Louhi Nilsen-Black, now Madam Snape. Please join me in congratulating them both and wishing them a long and happy marriage.”
Some the students clapped and cheered enthusiastically, a few more did the same, only half heartedly or out of politeness, the rest sat in stunned silence at the announcement.
Severus leaned toward Albus, spoke quietly to him for a minute then resumed his place beside Lou.
The Headmaster cleared his throat and spoke to the Hall once more. “It has been requested that I notify you all that as from now, Mrs Snape will be addressed as Madam Snape at all times. Now, enjoy your lunch.”
Albus, Severus and the rest of the staff walked off to take their places, leaving an extremely embarrassed and crimson faced Lou on her own at the front of the Hall.
When she realised they’d just left her standing there she felt panicked. All the time she’d been up here her eyes were focussed on the floor, now they were wide and looking at everyone wildly.
“Lou.” She heard. Several times her friends called to her from the Slytherin table before she realised who was shouting and dashed over to meet them.
They quickly gathered her into another welcoming group hug as they made room for her.
Letting out a long breath, Lou started tucking into her food as the girls fired questions at her.
“Where had she been?” “Who killed You-Know-Who, Lou or Snape?” “What were they doing the rest of the time?” “Was she really married to Snape?”
Then on a more quieter note from Nichole. “What’s he like in the sack?”
“Nichole! You can’t ask me that. It’s too —
personal.” Lou told her.
“Why not? We tell you what we get up to.” Anna said with a wink.
“Yo …you just can’t, especially not in here.” Lou looked up and down the table, hoping no one heard what they were talking about. Her eyes locked with cold, hard grey ones, making her gulp. ’Why am I scared of that little twerp? Sod you Malfoy, you’ll never intimidate me again.’ She held his gaze, giving him a glare reminiscent of one her husband might give.
Malfoy sneered, but averted his eyes. He did not have to fear punishment from the Dark Lord any longer, no matter what he decided to do to Lou.
When everyone left for afternoon class, Lou made her way slowly back to her rooms, wondering what to do with herself. Severus wasn’t an option, Peg wasn’t bringing the elfin until this evening and she was on her own. Wondering if it was a Hogsmead weekend this week, she headed for the common room.
On entering she found it was occupied by several seventh years. Namely Malfoy, Zabini, Crabbe, Goyle and the two girls that always hung around with them. Pansy Parkinson and Millicent Bullestrode.
Doing her best to ignore their stares she made her way over to the notice board. ’Yes. Hogsmead this weekend.’ She thought excitedly.
When she turned to leave it was to find herself trapped by three of the six occupants of the Slytherin common room. Draco, Crabbe and Goyle.
“Leave her alone Draco, she’s not doing anything wrong.” Zabini said threatingly from the armchair near the fire.
“That’s a matter of opinion Blaize.” Draco told him coldly, not taking his eyes from Lou. “You’ve got a nerve coming back here after what you’ve done.” He told her.
“Get stuffed Malfoy, I told you what I’d do if you came near me again so fuck off.”
She reeled when his fist came in contact with the side of her head, sending her flying to the floor.
Someone shouted something she couldn’t understand, the pain in her head blocking it out. Other voices joined in and Lou, though still reeling from the blow, managed to pull her wand and aim it at the vaguely blonde haired shape in front of her.
“Draco.” She said,, smiling a bit when the blonde head looked down at her. ‘facio tu femelia sempa.’ (I make you female always) She thought, silently casting the curse on him.
Although she couldn’t focus enough to see his face, Lou knew she’d hit the mark by his high pitched screams, and a certain amount of giggling from his peers, none of them realising the spell was permanent and could never be revoked.
Then she was vaguely aware of arms lifting her and laying her down on something soft before blackness overtook her.
Voices drifting in and out of her consciousness, shadowy shapes, bright lights, something poured down her throat and blissful darkness again.
“She will be right as rain by morning Severus, it was a nasty blow but I have taken away the bruising and swelling, now all she needs is rest. I wonder how the Headmaster will explain young Mr Malfoy’s predicament. Or should I say Miss Malfoy?” She amended with a chuckle.
“I have no idea, but the boy …girl had it coming to him …her. Personally I would have preferred to do much worse to him …herbut the Headmaster would not allow it. Neither Minerva or Fillius seem able to remove the spell or even use another to disguise his …her predicament.”
“Where on earth did she learn it?”
“I have no idea, though I intend to find out once she awakens. I shall leave her to your care Poppy , the Headmaster is expecting me in his office.”
Apparently it was Zabini who’d shouted in Lou’s defence, when Malfoy had struck her, even Draco’s friends had been appalled at the blonde boys action and a shouting match had ensued. Most were glad to be free from the clutches of Voldemort and felt a grudging admiration for Lou, plus she was married to their head of house which meant she was now untouchable.
By all accounts Lou had spoken Draco’s name, aimed her wand in his direction and promptly passed out before she could utter a spell.
Meanwhile Draco began screaming because his entire anatomy was now female. Zabini was the one who’d picked Lou up and laid her on the sofa then sent a message by floo to the infirmary, asking Madam Pomfry to come down urgently.
The following morning Madam Pomfry insisted Lou stay in bed and have her breakfast before she was allowed to get dressed and leave. She was given strict instructions to return to the infirmary immediately should she suffer and headaches, distortion of vision, tiredness, etc.
“I’m fine Madam Pomfry honest, thanks for looking after me. Please can I go now? I’m late for class as it is.”
She was given a note from the medi-witch, explaining her lateness and all but flew down the staircase to her rooms. Lou couldn’t wait to get her uniform on and get to class with her friends.
She’d just sat down after making her apologies to Professor MacGonagall when a young boy entered with a note for the Professor.
“Madam Snape, the Headmaster wishes to see you in his office immediately. Off you go.”
‘Now I’m in for it. It’s about Malfoy, I know it is. Severus is gonna send me away like he said he would and I’ll be on my own again.’ Thoughts swam through her head as she rode the revolving staircase to meet her doom.
The door was opened by Severus before she had chance to knock and she was ushered inside.
“Sit down.” He told her, his tone, like his face, impassive.
“About time. Remove this hex from my son immediately.”
Lou turned to the voice, only to meet the cold, angry stare of Lucius Malfoy.
Beside him stood an equally angry Draco, still dressed in his normal clothing, having adamantly refused the female attire offered him by Pansy and Millicent.
Lou had to admit though that he made a very attractive female. His features, which until now were angular and masculine, had softened and rounded slightly. His hair was longer and his lips fuller, his shoulders and waist had both narrowed, emphasising his bust and hips.
“No.” She said stubbornly. Her knees were shaking but she wasn’t gonna let the Malfoy’s intimidate her any more.
“You will do as you are told.” The tall blonde man raged. “How dare you assault my son in such a manner.” He said angrily, while advancing on her.
Severus stepped in front of her. “Do not think to intimidate my wife Lucius, you will have to go through me first and you know as well as I what the outcome would be.”
“Enough gentlemen.” Albus scolded loudly. “Please, take your seats and we can discuss this civilly.
“Make her change me back then.” Draco demanded in a very feminine voice that made him blush and clamp his mouth shut.
His father gave him a disgusted look.
Lou and Severus looked slightly surprised.
Albus turned to look at Lou. “Madam Snape, since you are the only one who knows the counter curse for Draco’s predicament, it might be advisable to apply it now.” He told her kindly.
“I can’t, there isn’t one.”
There was silence in the room for a moment, then Lucius jumped from his chair again to try and grab Lou.
Severus however was ready for him and sent him flying back to his seat with a flick of his wand, then bound him tightly to it.
“Untie me this instant Snape before I do something you will regret.”
“You are not in a position to make threats Lucius, I believe the Ministry will be arriving this afternoon for details of Voldemort’s demise. They will of course require the names of all who were present that day. My wife acted purely out of self defence after your son brutally attacked her, it seems he is more like you than you realise. Even his own friends gave testimony to the fact that he was at fault, and considering it was not his …her first attack on her person, you can hardly blame her for trying to defend herself in any way possible. Though as I understand it, no one actually saw or heard a curse being cast.”
“So what am I supposed to do now? I refuse to live my life as a girl.” Draco screeched at them.
“If what Madam Snape says is true, then I am afraid you do not have a choice Draco. Perhaps a change of name and some different clothing would be a start.” The Headmaster told him.
“Is there really no counter curse Madam Snape?” He then asked Lou.
“No Sir, as far as I’m aware, it’s permanent.”
She turned to Draco. “I hope that any future males you meet will treat you better than you’ve treat me Draco, I’d hate to see you lose something precious to you, the way I had to.” Lou said to him, her own eyes cold and hard. I’m not sorry that you’re stuck this way from now on, it’ll give you a chance to find out exactly what it’s like being on the receiving end of a mans unwanted attentions. How it feels to have them ogling you,.” She turned her gaze to the elder Malfoy. “Touching you, invading you in places they shouldn’t just to satisfy their own sick, perverted minds. You could tell him all about that Mr Malfoy couldn’t you?”
Lou was trembling with rage now and it began to manifest itself in the form of light radiating from her as she stood in front of the Malfoy patriarch. The light changed to a glow and developed into a blinding brightness, causing everyone to close their eyes against it’s brilliance. Then commenced a shower of small sparks, flying in all directions as Lou finally succumbed to every negative emotion she’d ever felt. All her fear, anger, terror, hurt, injustice and disgust was now aimed at an appalled Lucius Malfoy who was still bound magically to his chair.
“LOU NO.” Severus shouted at her. “Do not do this, not now. Take control, you can control it Lou. Do not let it take over.”
Lou heard nothing as she still focused her emotions on Malfoy. “I could kill you right now do you know that? I don’t even need my wand, I could do it just by wanting it to happen. Shall I make it happen? Shall I show you exactly what I can do Mr Malfoy.” She spat his last name as though it had a bad taste as her eyes bored into his. “It’s no wonder your son is the way he is, you’ve brought him up to be as sick and twisted as you are. Do you want to live, or shall I kill you? Your choice, but if you choose to live, it’ll not be like you’ve lived so far. You’re an evil cruel man and the world doesn’t need another Voldemort. Will you change, because if you tell me you will and you’re lying, I’ll find you, I wont give you a choice then.”
Severus and Albus watched her, both of them shaken at her display of power. She was controlling it from the start, more than either of them realised at first, this time though she was using it for her own ends and they could do nothing to prevent it.
