"Warriors die, Rory," Roan told him as he studied his face, a frown beginning to curve his brow. "Each and every one of us knows the risk we take when we put the uniform on, and what anyone wants, or doesn't want becomes irrelevant when we face enemies like the Cylons, or Space Pirates, or Tom Riddle."
"And as much as you may want to do this on your own, you can't, and logically, you know that," Ethan said, a worried look on his face as he looked at him. "You're not getting anywhere near enough sleep, Roark."
Roark gave a shrug. "No perhaps I'm not at that, but I am getting enough, and yes, according to Desmond, Tyler, and Kili, all the blocks and seals placed on me at ten have all broken down," his gaze shifted then as the door slid open. "Come in, Ardyn," he told him, his eyes returning to Ethan. "So yes, all of my psychic gifts are now running rampant, and my empathy is apparently wide open."
"Hum...so I see," he told him as Apollo rose to his feet, a wide smile curving his lips, "it's thrown your magic completely out of balance, which would be why it's always flaring when you get angry."
"It's good to see you, Ardyn," Apollo said, holding out a hand to him upon reaching him. "You look well."
Ardyn took the extended hand and shook it. "As do you, Apollo," he said with a smile. "Starbuck, Boomer, it's good to see the two of you. Starbuck, you're staying out of trouble, I trust?" he asked with an arched brow as he took Starbuck's hand to shake.
"Trying too, anyway," he answered with a devilish grin and a shake of his straw blond head. "Though staying out of trouble is no fun at all."
Ardyn had to chuckle. Still, the charming rogue he had been when he had been Strike Commander aboard the Galactica. "No, I suppose it isn't at that," he told him as he looked around the office at all the black flight shirts and scarlet jackets worn by those present. "Logan, Kili, it's good to see the two of you," he told them with a smile that had the family tensing, but then forcing themselves to relax. "I thought you had both been posted to the Galactica?"
"Thank you, Ardyn," Kili said as he leaned lightly into his brother. Fili glanced over at him, murmuring something that no one else could hear into his ear. Kili smiled and shook his head. "Fine, just a bit tired. That damn poison took so much out of me."
"We were," Logan spoke up, drawing Ardyn's gaze. "In fact, we're to report there once we have finished with this case."
"I see," Ardyn said, his head tilting, looking at Apollo, Zac, Starbuck, Boomer, Colten, and Dylan in turn. "And weren't the six of you supposed to be on leave?"
"We were, but when they asked us to be a part of this task force, we said yes. We wanted to come help Roark and Harry, get the chance to work with them, so here we are. We'll finish our leaves when this case is over."
"Maybe," came from someone standing near the back of the room, jerking Harry and Roark's heads toward the sound of his voice.
"Arthur? Is that you?"
Chuckling sounded as he stepped forward with a warm smile at the two. "Hello, boys, it's very good to see you both. I brought some of the boys with me," he said, jerking his head to where Bill, Charlie, Ron, and Percy stood together, though not exactly close.
Two of the four, Bill and Charlie, had wide smiles on their faces, obviously very happy to see them. Ron was looking at them with a most peculiar sort of look on his face, since that major falling out he had had with Roark over something HE saw as small and petty. Harry had been furious and had jumped to his brother's side of things. Their friendship had never recovered.
Percy, standing away from the three of his brothers was looking at the two brothers like they were bugs to be studied, which, knowing him, they were, He had never approved of either of them in any way, shape, or form, telling anyone who would listen to him that the Peverell Potter brothers had gotten where they were only because they were the grandsons of Commander Jacob Adama. Because they were the sons of the now long-dead, but still much-loved Commander James Peverell Potter and his wife, Adama's eldest daughter, Lily.
There were more than a few who listened to him.
Harry looked over at Bill and Charlie. "We'll have to get together one night soon," he told the two, and though he looked at Ron, he said nothing to him. "It's been far too long since we all got together. How's Molly, Arthur?"
"Oh, you know Molly. She's the same as she always is, and told me to remind you two you owe her a letter and a com call. If she doesn't hear from you soon, you'll both be very sorry when you get home."
That had them chuckling. "Well try to give her a call tonight."
"It has indeed," Bill spoke up then, coming across the room, Charlie following to give them each a warm hug. "Since your graduation party, Rory."
"A lifetime ago," he said, after releasing Charlie. "So...oo, Arthur," he turned his head, "just what was that maybe all about?" he asked, arching a brow when the red-headed man would only shrug. "Aiden? Grey?" he looked at the Durin cousins and saw their expressions. "What's going on?"
"So the rumor I've been hearing from my sources is true then?"
