"I guess that would depend on what your sources are telling you, Ardyn," Robin said as he looked over at him.
"Rumor?" came from Harry.
"Rumor of WHAT, exactly?" Roark asked as he reached to open a drawer. "Ardyn, would you mind terribly getting everyone something to drink?" he asked, drawing out several thick files. "Harry and I weren't sure how many of you they were actually sending, so we only have ten extra files copied."
That's fine, Rory," Ethan said as he took the files held out and passed them around, keeping one for himself. "We can share."
"So what can I get you all?" Ardyn asked as he moved over to the sideboard. "Harry and Roark have a rather nice selection of tea, coffee, and hot chocolate. They also have Ambrosia, whiskey, brandy, scotch, and wine."
"It's a bit early for the liquor," Payton spoke up as he moved over to the sideboard to give him a hand. As well as to keep an eye on him, to make sure nothing got slipped into anyone's drink. "I'll be having some tea myself, I think."
"As for the rumor...there are a few floating around High Command that the Cylons have sent an intermediary. They are apparently asking for Peace."
Roark went completely still as the words registered, his eyes taking on a dark stormy look. "They've...WHAT?!" he asked in shocked surprise. "You can't be serious? Cylons wanting...Peace? Now why don't I believe it?"
"Because the idea of the Cylons asking for Peace is not at all believable," Harry said as he began to boot up his laptop, looking as shocked as his brother.
Snorts came from more than a few around the room. "There are more than a few of us who don't believe it either," Gareth, Roan's Counter-Intelligence partner, as well as his husband of nearly six yahren {year} told them from where he leaned against a wall, his gaze narrowed on Ardyn's back.
"Yet there are more than a few others, our President included that believe it, Wishful thinking on their part I say, but still...We'll just have to wait and see what happens," Dylan said as his brother brought him a mug of coffee, which he immediately sipped from with a nod of thanks.
Roark could only shake his head. "I just can't see it. What's the official word?" he asked, giving Payton a warm smile as he set a steaming mug before him. "Oh GODS, thank you, Pay," he said, reaching out immediately for the tea, hearing his brother chuckle, making him look over at him. "Shut it, Harry."
"Be careful, Rory," he said as Roark picked up the mug, "that very--" his broke off, his eyes widening as Roark drank deeply, "hot." He could only shake his head as he passed Harry a mug. "I will never know how you can do that."
"Fire magic, Pay," Greyson told his cousin with a grin. "Uncle Thorin does that too. The hotter, the better he's always saying. As for the Cylons and their supposed offer, there's been no official word as of yet," he went on, his brow arching when Roark let out a near groan, drinking deeply once again. "That good, is it?"
Roark glanced over at him as he held his mug out for a refill, hearing more than half the room laugh at his hopeful look. Colten laughed as he grabbed the pot, brought it over, and refilled his mug. "You have no idea," he said as he sipped it this time, hands wrapping around the mug. "I overslept this morning. I didn't have time to make either coffee OR tea. I was absolutely DYING for some caffeine."
"You NEVER oversleep. Just WHAT, exactly, were you doing that you were so exhausted that you would oversleep?" Zac asked his nephew with an arched brow, his head turning when he heard a chuckle. "Hadrian? Something funny?"
A flush appeared on Roark's face as he looked from his brother to his Uncle. "Nothing you need to know anything about, Uncle Zac. Harry, you will kindly remember, brother, that YOU overslept as well." He gave him a smirk when he flushed. "What about other sources, Aiden?" he asked, turning his head to look at him. "Any word from them?"
"Nothing. Everyone is remarkably closed-mouth about the matter. I also think that may be why Raph and Schyler didn't join us as planned. Rumor also has the President and the Council of Twelve seriously thinking of accepting the offer that's been brought to the table, despite what many decanters are saying."
A thoughtful look suddenly appeared on his face. I...see. And what do Roark, Thorin, and your cousins have to say about this matter?"
"Not a damned thing," came back with frustration in his tone. "They're all being as remarkably silent as everyone else is," Sebastien said now as he moved to take a seat on the arm of Robin's chair. "More than a few of us have asked, of course, but they can't...or they WON'T talk about it."
"Personally, I think it's more along the lines of won't," Morgan answered as Gwydion brought him a mug of coffee, then took a seat on the floor, his back to his partner's legs. Aiden's husband of only a few sectar {month} smiled at him as he sipped from his mug, humming his approval.
"Dylan said he and Kaden managed to corner Schyler when they were at Headquarters for debriefings. Schy said he knew nothing about it, that he had no idea why they had been asked to remain behind."
"You didn't believe him, Kade?" he asked, turning his head to look at him and Dylan.
He shook his head. "Not a chance in hell," he answered. "Whatever Raph knows, my brother will know. Those two? They don't keep secrets from each other. What one knows, the other will know."
"It's a conspiracy of silence," Roark murmured, his thoughtful look deepening, his expression changing to match. "How...odd," he went on, his eyes shuttered, thoughts hidden from them, or so he thought anyway. "Very odd indeed."
"Roark?" came the question from several in the room.
"Hum...mm?" he hummed in answer, not paying them any attention at all, the problem with the Cylons and Peace beginning to run around in his head.
"ROARK!" Roan demanded sharply, breaking him out of his rioting thoughts and making him look up quickly.
"Roan?"
"Talk to us, kiddo," he said.
He blinked. Then, slowly, his expression cleared. "What?"
"You were lost deeply within your thoughts, Rory. What were you thinking so hard that you would lock all of us out?" Ethan asked, looking at him worriedly. They were going to have to get him better grounded and centered than he was.
And soon.
"Oh, I'm sorry guys. It's...nothing, really. It's just..." he paused, looking at them. "No. Never mind. A seed of a thought not yet germinated. Give me some time to think about it. I'll work it out, and once I do, I'll bring it to all of you. Promise."
"Just so long as you do."
