Chapter 7: Let the Show Begin
When school had ended that day, Draco was in a very bad mood. Nothing calmed him down. First he tried reading one of his books, but ended up throwing the ones he picked up to the ground. Then he started painting, but that just ended up making him more frustrated and he ended up punching a hole through the canvas. Finally he opted to just sit on his bed while he threw a ball against a nearby wall and then catch it in his hands when the ball bounced back to him.
“Come and play chess with me,” Tom said idly as he sat on the couch and started moving around chess pieces on a chess board that sat on the table.
“How can you think of chess at a time like this?” Draco asked, though he did get up from his bed to sit on the couch opposite of the taller boy. “Today has been the most miserable day of my life,” he mumbled as he talked to his most trusted friend.
“And for a rich, spoiled, fourteen year old boy who’s used to getting everything he wants, I guess that’s saying something,” smirked Tom as he finished moving the black pieces towards himself and the white pieces towards Draco.
“For the first class I had little chance to talk to Harry,” continued Draco, ignoring Tom’s comment as they started to play. “Severus had the class working in groups of three today and that blasted Granger and Weasley grabbed my Harry before I could. Blasted Gryffindors… This, of course, left me to work with those two morons that we have the pleasure of calling our friends. Why did Severus have to do this to me?
“For the rest of the classes those two Gryffindors, with the help of all of their annoying little friends, had the nerve to sit in a way where they surrounded Harry. Any opportunity to be close him ruined once again. But I see what they’re trying to do. They want to make sure I don’t turn Harry into a Slytherin. They want him into their own fold, but I won’t let that happen. No way will I let them corrupt his mind.”
“Don’t you think you’re getting a little obsessive?” Tom asked as he watched his friend’s behavior with amusement. “I mean we just met him a couple of days ago, and I’m sorry to say but he seems more Gryffindor than Slytherin,” he informed while moving one of his pieces.
Draco looked up at Tom sharply and glared. “How dare you. He is nothing like a Gryffindor. And how can I not get obsessive, he’s gorgeous. Just thinking about him drives me crazy.”
“So it’s only just a physical attraction then? Well then just do what you always do; fuck him and get it over with.”
“That’s so crude,” Draco said, scrunching up his nose white he moved one of his chess pieces. “What I feel for Harry is based on more than just his looks. It’s the sound of his voice … the way he smiles and laughs … the way he moves his hands when he talks. It’s the way he bites his lip when he’s concentrating … or when he scrunches up his forehead and tilts his head to one side when he’s confused. It’s the way his hair looks like he just got out of bed … the way I can always tell what he’s feeling by just looking at his eyes. Oh, and let’s not forget about his eyes. Just one look into those gorgeous green pools of emotion and I could get lost for days,” the blonde said as he looked up in a daze.
“Awe… It sounds to me like ikle Dwaco is falling in wove,” Tom said in a voice that very much disturbed his long-time friend.
“Don’t ever talk like that again. And no … Malfoy’s never fall in love,” said Draco. But even as he said this he knew that he was lying. ‘Dammit,’ he thought before speaking again. “I had another dream,” he said idly.
“You mean about Harry?” Tom asked idly as he took one of Draco’s pawns.
“Of course I mean about Harry. But it wasn’t like before. It was different. He was different. This time I was in my room, and he came to me, but this time felt like … like I was dreaming.”
“Do I have to remind you that you were dreaming?”
“I know I was dreaming. But the first time I was with him it felt real, like I was actually touching him … actually with him.”
“Well, they always say the first time is the best.”
“Ha,” Draco laughed. “There’s no doubt in my mind that our first time will be great. But I’ll make sure that each time we’re together will be better than the last.”
“Aren’t you being a little cocky?”
“No … just confident… Harry Potter will be mine, no matter who I have to stomp over to get to him.”
“Pansy won’t be too pleased.”
“Pansy will not interfere if she knows what’s good for her. And if she’s the unfortunate soul that tries to get in my way, then she’ll regret it for the rest of her life.”
“And what are you going to do about Diggory? I heard him saying to his friends that he would do anything to get Harry back.”
“Diggory’s not a problem,” laughed Draco as he took another of Tom’s pieces. “From the looks of it, Harry wants nothing more to do with that waste of a human being.”
“Are you sure? After what you told me about Harry’s reaction to finding out about the amusement park, I wouldn’t be.”
“Yes but you’re forgetting that Harry asked me to go with him, not Diggory. I’m not naïve enough to believe that Diggory won’t try to use his little amusement park to win Harry over, but I have much something more powerful than silly rides.”
“Which is?” Tom asked curiously as he took one of Draco’s rooks.
“Me,” seeing Tom arch his eyebrow at him, Draco continued. “I will have Harry, heart, mind, body and soul, and when I do heaven help anyone who tries to break us apart.”
“And I thought Nott was bad.”
“He is,” Draco smirked as he moved another piece. “Check mate.”

After school, Harry had walked home with all of his new Gryffindors friends. When they reached Harry’s house, he invited them all inside. Then he went into the kitchen where he found Sammy quietly sitting at the table, eating an apple.
“Hey, why are you just sitting there?” Harry asked as he walked up to her.
Harry knew his sister to be very energetic and was surprised to not find her practically jumping off the walls. The only time she wouldn’t be active was when Sir Harold stopped by. With his sister quiet like this when there was no Sir Harold around, Harry grew suspicious.
“Did something happen at school today?”
“No,” she said as she shook her head. “It’s just that you’ve got another letter,” she said, gesturing to a white envelope, identical to the one he had received yesterday. “It isn’t from Cedric, is it?” Sammy asked as she put her apple down on the table.
“I don’t know, I haven’t read it yet,” Harry said as he walked up to the table and picked up the envelope before shoving it inside his pocket. “I brought some of my friends from school over. Do you want to meet them?” The raven-haired boy asked, deciding to change the subject.
“Sure,” she shrugged, taking the hint.
Taking her half eaten apple with her, Sammy got up from the table and followed Harry into the living room where they saw Harry’s friends playing hopscotch. After introducing his sister to everyone, Harry and his friends sat down - some on the couches and others on the floor - while Sammy leaned against the wall.
“Hey do you have anything to drink?” Ron asked.
“I think we have some pop,” said Harry.
“Wicked, can I have one?”
“Yeah me to,” Seamus said as Harry got up.
“And me,” several of the others said.
When Harry was out of sight all of his friends huddled together. “So what do you think?” Ron asked.
“I think we should let him in,” said Pavarti.
“Yeah before the Slytherins do,” said Dean. “He’s way too nice to be one of them.”
“And he’s cute to boot. Maybe I can get him to ask me to the Halloween dance.”
“I’ll be surprised if he said yes,” said Sammy as she sat down beside them.
“Why do you say that?”
“Because Harry’s gay,” Sammy said as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. “Didn’t you guys know?”
“No. Are you sure?” Lavender asked, looking very disappointed.
“Of course I’m sure,” laughed Sammy. “I am his sister after all. He even used to date this guy named Cedric Diggory. He was his first boyfriend.”
“Cedric Diggory?” They all whispered.
“That’s right. Do you guys know him?”
“Yeah we do,” said Seamus.
“You guys don’t have a problem with this, do you?”
“No, no. Of course we don’t.”
“So it’s settled then right?” Ron asked. “We let him in.”
“Right,” they all said at the same time just as Harry came back with several bottles of pop that looked like they were about to fall from his arms. Sammy got up from her seat and helped Harry give all of the Gryffindors their drinks and then sat back down again.
“I was wondering if I could ask you guys something,” said Harry after a while. “I wanted to know about this amusement park I heard about. The one that Cedric’s dad owns?” Harry noticed with delight that everyone’s faces lit up at the mention of Mr. Diggory’s amusement park.
“Oh it’s absolutely wonderful Harry,” smiled Lavender. “It’s called Diggory Fair.”
“I know it’s not very creative,” shrugged Ron, “but that’s what you get from the father of a Hufflepuff.”
“Oh we have the most fun there,” said Pavarti excitedly. “Gryffindors are kind of like heroes to Hufflepuffs so we get lots of discounts.”
“So what kind of rides do they have there?” Harry asked.
“Well it’s rather large so–” was all Hermione could say before Seamus cut in.
“They have tons of rides like the ‘Ferris Wheel’ and all that baby crap,” Seamus said in a rush. “But then they have stuff that only Gryffindors can handle like ‘The Dome’, ‘The Top Drop’, ‘The Whirlwind’, ‘The Claw’-”
“Then they have these shows that they put on inside this little theater,” interrupted Lavender. “They’re like magic shows and involve some of the Hufflepuffs that go to our school, mostly Cedric’s friends. You should see them, they‘re really quite amazing.”
“Yeah,” said Ron. “Gryffindors usually go on Friday’s seeing as we have no school the next day.”
“Harry, since we made you an honorary member of Gryffindor while you were gone, why don’t you come with us the next time we go?” Hermione asked.
“I’ll think about it,” said Harry.

The next day there wasn’t a moment that went by where Harry was with one or more of his Gryffindor friends. Harry finally had friends, people that hung around him who didn’t fear Dudley. Of course, since he was always with the Gryffindors, he never had a chance to talk to Draco or the other Slytherins.
‘I’ll make it up to him when we go to the amusement park,’ thought Harry as he was walking home from school with his friends again.
= =
Friday found Harry throwing all of his clothes around the room trying to look for something perfect to wear to school that day. He would occasionally pick up pieces of clothing and look at them before finally groaning and throwing it into a growing pile of clothes on the floor.
“Nothing…” Harry yelled in frustration. As Harry was about to pick up another piece of clothing, there came a knock on his door. “Who is it?” The green-eyed boy asked as he threw yet another shirt over his head.
Without a reply, the door slowly opened and Sammy poked her head inside the room. As soon as she saw what her brother was doing, she couldn’t help but start to giggle, which resulted in her brother stopping what he was doing so he could scowl at her.
“What in the world are you doing?” Sammy asked.
“I’m trying to find something to wear for school today. What does it look like I’m doing?” Harry asked irritably as he turned back to his clothes.
“Just throw on a T-shirt like you always do.”
“I can’t do that!” Harry nearly yelled.
“And why can’t you?” The red-headed girl asked, and when she didn’t get a response, she started to smile. “Does this have anything to do with Draco?”
At those words, Harry rushed past Sammy and closed the door. Then he grabbed her arm and pulled her over to his bed to sit down.
“Yes,” he hissed in her ear before getting extremely nervous. “I have a date with him,” he said, not noticing Sammy’s smile widening as he looked down at his hands. “At least I think it’s a date. I mean, I said it was a date but he could have taken it as like a friend thing. Well anyway, I can’t seem to find anything to wear. If I wear anything too nice and he only thinks of me as a friend then I’ll look like an idiot. But if I wear my usual plain T-shirt and he does like me then it’ll look like I don’t like him and I do. Of course if I don’t dress nice and he doesn’t dress nice then I’ll know he doesn’t like me and I’ll be devastated. But if I–”
“Alright already…,” Sammy interrupted. “You’re ranting is driving me crazy. Is this date happening at the amusement park?”
Nodded, Harry rested his head on his sister’s shoulder. “Sammy you’ve got to help me,” he said as he looked up at her expectantly.
“Wow. You really are nervous, aren’t you? You were never like this with Cedric.”
“Cedric’s nothing compared to Draco. Now come on and help me before I go insane.”
Sighing as she shook her head, Sammy smiled at her brother and went about searching through his clothes.
“What you need is something that says, ‘I look good even though you see me as a friend’ but will also say, ‘but if you do like me, I’m the hottest thing you’ve ever seen’,” she said as she went into his closet.
Finally, Sammy decided on a pair of tight blue jeans, a green T-shirt that clung to his skin and a black no-sleeved collared vest that zipped up at the front.
“There,” she said as she zipped up the vest half way, proud of what she had accomplished. “Now if he’s just a friend then zip up the vest all the way, but if you think he likes you then open the vest up and let him marvel in all that is Harry James Potter.”
“Are you out of your mind?” Harry asked as he zipped up the vest all the way. “I might as well be going to school without a shirt on. The only reason I even have this one is because Mum made a mistake on the size when she picked it up for me.”
“Hey,” said Sammy as she zipped the vest down half way, “the best things in life come from mistakes.”
“Yeah, give me one good example?”
Holding onto Harry’s hand, the petite girl pulled her brother over to his closet mirror and showed him his reflection. “Shall I give you another?” Sammy asked as she folded her arms.
“Well … it does make my eyes stand out,” Harry mused. “And I have to admit, I do look good in this outfit.”
“Well now that your head has managed to grow two sizes in less than one minute, I think it’s time for us to go downstairs and have some breakfast,” and with that, Sammy left Harry’s side and left his room - with Harry following her - to go downstairs.

Seeing Harry at school that day, Draco’s eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. ‘This is who I’m going to the amusement park with today.’
Draco watched as Harry walked over and sat down. His jeans formed his long slender legs and his T-shirt clung to his chest like a second skin. It was enough to make Draco want to tear off with his bear teeth.
‘Calm down. Draco. You don’t want to loose your cool in front of him.’
For the rest of the day, Draco had a hard time taking his eyes off of Harry. When gym finally arrived, Draco had to turn around and slowly count to ten while Harry changed into his gym clothes.
“So, are you excited about tonight?” The blonde asked Harry, hoping to snap out of another one of his Harry-induced daydreams.
“Do you even have to ask?” The raven-haired boy asked as he smiled at Draco, unknowingly making the blonde’s heart beat faster.
During gym, Draco was lucky enough to have the opportunity to talk to Harry as all the boys were told to run around the football field. When Harry stopped to take a drink of water by the water fountain, Draco made his move.
“I see your Gryffindor friends have stopped surrounding you,” he said as he stood by the fountain.
Harry laughed as he looked towards the field where all of the boys of his male friends had collapsed on the ground and were now silently snoozing.
“I guess so.”
“I told my father that I would be away for the whole day,” Draco said. “Of course I didn’t tell him what I would be doing.”
“Why not…” Harry asked as he furred his brow and tilted his head in confusion.
“If my father ever found out I was hanging around that amusement park, he would think I’d gone crazy.”
Harry’s laugh at Draco’s words, but that laugh was the last thing the blonde heard before Ron stepped between them.
“Harry come on, class just ended,” the red-head said before pulling onto Harry’s arm and dragging the still-smiling brunette away from Draco.
= =
“So will you be going to the amusement park today?” Hermione asked as Harry walked out of the boy’s change room.
“I think I’ll be there,” said Harry. ‘With Draco,’ he added in his thoughts.
“Good. Some of us get a ride from Ron’s older brother so you don’t have to worry about transportation.”
“Actually, Hermione, Draco’s taking me.”
At those words, Hermione froze before spinning around to look surprisingly at her friend.
“You can’t be serious,” she said in surprise.
“Actually, I’m very serious. Draco said he’d take me to the amusement park today.”
“Draco … as in Draco Malfoy … as in Draco Malfoy from Slytherin … as in-”
“Yes that Draco.”
“But he’s a Slytherin.”
“Yes we’ve already established that,” laughed Harry.
“But Slytherins never set foot in Diggory Fair. They deem it unworthy for their feet to walk upon, or some crap like that. How on earth did you get him to agree to go?”
“Just lucky I guess,” he shrugged.
= =
While Draco and Harry were being driven to Diggory Fair, Draco watched the boy beside him intently as the shorter boy smiled while looking out of the window.
“Is it true about what I’ve been hearing?” the blonde finally asked, causing Harry to turn around and look at him.
“It depends on what you’ve been hearing,” said Harry.
“I heard from Pansy that you’ve been made a Gryffindor.”
“Yeah, I am now an honorary Gryffindor,” he smiled. “Why?”
“Nothing… I just wanted to know if it was true,” said Draco and remained silent for quite a while before speaking in a softer, almost somber, voice. “You do realize what this means, don’t you?”
“No I don’t,” Harry said in confusion.
“It means that we can’t be friends anymore.”
“Who said that?” Harry asked looking a little offended and slightly disappointed.
“Well it’s kind of an unwritten rule. No Slytherin and Gryffindor shall ever be friends lest the sky start to fall.”
“That’s ridiculous,” Harry laughed.
“Mock it all you want, but that’s how it’s been … from even before I came to this school.”
“Well then, I guess we’ll just have to change that rule, now won’t we?”
“It’s not something to change, it just is. If you want to be my friend, you can’t be theirs.”
“I refuse to accept that,” Harry said as he folded his arms in defiance. “I’m going to be friends with you and the Gryffindors, and there’s nothing anybody can do to stop me.”
“It’s not that simple,” Draco said almost regrettably.
“Well then let me tell you something that is simple,” said Harry, a sly smile creeping on his face as he lean closer towards Draco. “I want to be friends with both Gryffindors and Slytherins … and I always get what I want.”
‘You were definitely born to be a Slytherin,’ thought Draco as he smiled at Harry.
When they finally arrived at the amusement park, Harry looked as if this was the happiest day of his life. He rushed out of the car, ran up to the concession stand and waited impatiently for Draco to join him. Once they bought their tickets, it took a while before Harry could actually get Draco to walk inside the park.
“Come on Draco,” said Harry and he held onto Draco’s hand. “As far as I can tell, Hufflepuffs won’t bite.”
“That’s easy for you to say,” said Draco as he let himself be pulled. “Hufflepuffs adore Gryffindors, but I don’t think they like Slytherins very much.”
“Well I guess that’s just one more thing I’m going to have to change, now isn’t it? “Harry asked as he pulled Draco over the threshold. “So where shall we go first?” Harry asked when he pulled out a map of the park. “How about we start off with ‘The Dome’?”
“What’s that?” Draco asked wearily.
“Hermione told me it’s this dome-shaped ride that spins you round and round and round and-”
“I get the picture,” Draco said as he put his hand on his stomach.
“-Until you feel like you’re about the throw up,” Harry finished with a smile.
“I don’t think I’ll have to go on ‘The Dome’ to fell like throwing up,” the blonde said as he started feeling woozy.
“That’s nothing, not after what Lavender told me about ‘The Whirlwind’ that is. It’s basically the same thing but without the dome. She told me that it’s two poles that are tied to a ball that sits in the middle. When the ride starts, the strings are pulled tights so the ball can go high into the air and start spinning around and around and-”
“Harry, do you mind if we go on something a little less … gut wrenching, like ‘The Farris Wheel’ perhaps?”
“Sure whatever…,” Harry shrugged. “As long as we can go on every ride at some point, I don’t mind.”
Draco and Harry first went on all of the safer rides that Draco could find. But once the blonde tried to go on a ride in which they’d already went on, Harry had had enough. It was time for them to go on the more ‘exciting ride’ as Harry had put it.
The first ride they decided to go on was ‘The Dome’ - since Harry thought it would ease Draco into having some more fun. Harry waited patiently it was his and Draco’s turn. When there turn came around, Harry was beyond excited. Inside, the dome had blue padding that covered the walls, ceiling and floor. When the door closed a deep male voice announced that everyone should lean against the walls so that the ride could begin. Then the dome started turning clockwise.
The ride started out innocently enough. But when Draco felt like he could relax and enjoy the ride, the spinning started to pick up. Soon the dome was spinning so fast everyone was pinned to the walls. As the dome spun faster and faster, screams could be heard from everyone inside, especially the almost hysterical screams coming from Draco.
“That was wicked,” smiled Harry as he and Draco left the ride. “Let’s go to ‘The Claw’ next,” he said as he stroked his hand through his hair, which looked, if possible, even more disheveled than before.
Draco looked up at the ride he assumed to be ‘The Claw’. His heart felt like it stopped as he saw the enormous height at which half a dozen lion’s claws - each connected to one another - held dozens of people. He watched as the claws started to move and speed up as it ran up and down rails. The claws reached a loop and Draco held his breath as he saw them plummeting towards the ground.
Then just when he thought that it was going to squash all of the people that were inside, the claws swooped back up again. After that the claws performed several smaller loops until it slowed down and then finally came to a halt.
“There is no way I’m getting on that thing,” said Draco when he finally found his voice.
“Why not…” Harry asked with a pout. “I think it’ll be fun.”
“Why don’t we go to the show instead?” The blonde asked as he looked on the map. “One should be starting any minute now.”
“Alright…” Harry sighed, before smiling at Draco. “But we will be going on ‘The Claw’ sooner or later.” Harry looked down at the map for the theater where the shows were being held.
When Harry and Draco found the theater, they walked inside and realized that one of the shows was just about to start. The two quickly found seats near the front - with much persuasion from Harry - and sat down. A few seconds later, Cedric walked on the stage with a microphone in his hand.
“Good evening everyone,” said Cedric. “It’s good to see you all here today. For this show I have planned something special. In honor of my late mother, I will be performing a new trick for your entertainment.” As he said those words, the curtains behind him drew back to reveal a very large and wide empty glass tank.
“For my trick,” he started as two girls walked on the stage, one of which was holding a straightjacket, “I will be tied into this straightjacket, which will have a lock on it, and placed inside this tank.”
As he spoke, one of the girls held onto the microphone while the other put him into the straightjacket.
“Now I will be placed inside the tank, which will soon be filled to the top with water.”
At his words a large hose was brought out and was placed inside the tank. Then it was turned on and quickly started filling up the tank.
“After I have been placed inside the tank, the lid will be closed and I will have five minutes to set myself free or I will drown.”
It took a while, but when the tank was filled up with water, a portable staircase was brought on the stage and leaned up against the tank.
“To leave no doubt in your minds of what I’m about to do, I would like to ask my assistant to bring me a volunteer from the crowd to make sure that my ties are securely in place.”
Almost all of the people in the audience raised their hands in the air hoping they would be picked. The girl who had put Cedric in the straightjacket left his side and started walking over to the audience. She went from row to row until she stopped at the row that Harry and Draco were sitting in.
She looked at Harry and smiled. “Would you like to go on stage?”
“Um … okay,” said Harry as he got up from his seat. He then followed the girl back up on the stage until he was beside Cedric.
“I would also like to dedicate this trick to a very special love in my life, someone I just can’t seem to live without,” said Cedric as Harry was checking to see that all of the ties were secure.
As Cedric said words, most - if not all - of the girls sighed. When Harry was done, he was about to leave when one of the girls held onto his hand.
“Not so fast,” Cedric said as he looked at Harry. “There is still one more thing you have to do before you go. When I am lowered into the tank and the lid closes, a curtain will fall over it. It will be your job to make sure there are no trap doors or other such things. Are you ready?”
At Harry’s nod, Cedric smiled. “Good. Then let the show begin…”
