Chapter 6
--
The seventh year Slytherins waited until the rest of their
table got up to follow them out of the Great Hall. Raithos lead, with Draco at his right. Crabbe and Goyle walked directly behind them, and the rest brung
up the rear. After the ReSorting dinner
had been rather uneventful. The
Slytherins had kept an eye on the Gryffindor table in case they decided to cause
trouble. Raithos knew the confrontation
would happen eventually, and decided that right now, as he was walking out of
the Hall, would be the most likely prospect.
“Harry! Please
wait…”
‘Ah, right on time.’
Raithos whirled around to see Ron and Hermione leading the
group of his former friends. Draco
remained at his side and Crabbe and Goyle stepped up on his other. The rest of the Slytherins surrounded the
Gryffindor group.
“That is not my name. pan>pan>Did you not hear the warning I gave the old coot? Did you think I’d let you of all
people slide? If you cannot address me
properly, do not waste my time trying to speak to me,” Raithos said coldly.
“But Harry…” Hermione whispered, tears appearing in her eyes
yet again.
“You bloody bastard!” Ron exploded. “I knew it was only a matter of time before you turned evil! I should just kill you now!” he yelled.
Wands drew all
around at that threat, aimed at the redheaded boy. Raithos just looked on calmly.
“I am the son of
the most powerful wizard this world has ever seen. If he can’t kill me, whatever makes you think you could possibly do it?”
“Why you…you’ll get
yours Potter, you just wait. Dumbledore
won’t stand for this, you’ll be kicked out of this school before you know it
and thrown into Azkaban!”
Draco laughed at
that. “Haven’t you figured it out yet
Weasel? I’m sure your little mudblood
girlfriend already has. Dumbledore
can’t do a damn thing to Raith here; he’s not nearly strong enough. Your side has lost the war before it even
began. It’s hopeless to try and resist,
the world is ours now. You’d better
start sucking up now, maybe we won’t kill you later on.”
Raithos
chuckled. “Well put ‘Co, well put. Although I must say, no amount of
arse-kissing is going to save the two of you.
Do you think I don’t know about the letters you received six years ago?” Ron and Hermione paled visibly, and Ginny
started to shake. “The letters that
told you to make sure you befriended Harry Potter, no matter what? The letters saying H Pot Potter would arrive
at platform 9 ¾ in the company of a half-giant named Hagrid, who would leave
him lost in the train station? The
letters saying Harry Potter should then be picked up by the Weasley family, and
shown much love and kindness? The
letters saying Harry Potter should be told to avoid Slytherins at all cost,
that Slytherins were evil, and if they got him in their clutches they would
turn him dark?”
Raithos was nose to
nose with Ron as he said the last bit, looking down at him from his slight
height advantage. “Well guess
what. I am Slytherin. I’ve always been Slytherin. I’m so Slytherin I was able to hide the fact
for years that I can’t stand you bloody Gryffindors,
with all your stupid questions and false friendships and narrow-mindedned
judgements. Slytherins weren’t needed
to turn me, because I was turned the second I was born.”
With a wave of his
hand, Raithos stunned the group of shocked Gryffindors. “Listen closely, little lions. You are attempting to mess with a very
dangerous person here, and I won’t stand for it. This will be your only warning.
Avoid me at all costs.yes"> Draco turned to the motionless Gryffindors. “Better take him seriously, I’ve seen him
kill. He’s pretty good at it, and I’m
sure he’d have no problem using you bunch for target practice,” he said with a
sneer, then turned to follow Raithos, the rest of the Slytherins trailing
behind him.
--
Raithos was silent
until he and Draco reached their room.
He took a minute to look around.
It was much nicer than the Gryffindor rooms. Down in the dungeons, there was much more space, and so there
were only two people to a room. The
stone walls were hung with deep green tapestries. There were two huge four-poster beds with grend snd silver hangings,
as well as a black leather couch in front of the massive fireplace. A white fur rug lay on the floor in front of
it. There were two desks, as well as a
small table and chair set in an alcove off to one side. There were also two doors along the far
wall.
“Nice. I think I’m going to like it down here. Where do the doors go?” Raithos asked Draco.
“Well, one leads to
our bathroom, and the other is our walk-in-closet. Special Slytherin feature, you know. We all come from rich, pureblood families, so we all need serious
wardrobe space. Hey, that’ll make it so
much easier for me to borrow your clothes in the mornings!” he finished with a
grin.
“Yeah and I can
finally get you back by getting my hands on some of yours,” Raithos
retorted. “I’m going to check out the
bathroom.”
Tathrathroom was,
in a word, gorgeous, Raithos decided.
All dark gray stone and silver fixtures. The tub wasn’t nearly as big as the one in the Prefects bathroom,
but it was definitely big enough to fit more than one very comfortably. Raithos snorted as he looked over at the
shower.
‘Well, not going to be
much privacy in here,’ he thought
as he lo at at the glass-enclosed structure, which was again, big enough for
at least two, even equipped with two showerheads.
“So what do you
think?” Draco asked, walking in behind Raithos.
“I like. I like a lot.” Raithos replied.
“Hey, are you ok
after that whole Gryffindork confrontation?” Draco asked quietly as they walked
back into the main room. He was pretty
sure Raithos held no lingering feelings for his former friends, but he wanted to
make sure. He would never admit it to
anyone, but he was feeling a little insecure now that they were back at
Hogwarts. Over the summer it was easy
to have Raithos all to himself, as he was the only other person there besides
their parents. But here, he was
reminded that Harry Potter had been very popular, with a core of best friends
that he’d never been without.
“Don’t worry ‘Co,
the only feelings I have for them are disgust.
You know that. We talked about
them when I told you about the letters I saw Dumbledore write while I was in
his mind. I’ve no intention of going
back to being the good little Golden Boy, and even less intentions of renewing
any former friendships. They all used
me, some for fame, some for power, and some as a weapon,” Raithos said
softly. He could tell what Draco was
thinking, and wanted very much to reassure him that he wasn’t going anywhere.
“Anyway, you’ve
been a much better friend this past month than theyr wer were. I realize that now. Growing up without any friends didn’t give me
a very good picture of what a true friend was supposed to be, so Harry just took whatever came along.
Raithos knows what friends are, and his best friend
just happens to be standing right in front of him,” he said grinning.
“Yeah, yeah, don’t
go getting all mushy on me now Raith.
We have to get into the common room for Severus’s annual welcome back
and don’t screw up speech.”
--
Raithos and Draco
were seated on the couch directly in front of Severus Snape. The rest of Slytherin house had acknowledged
the two of them as the unofficial rulers of Slytherin. Just about everyone in Slytherin had a Death
Eater parent, and those that didn’t, were supporters of the Dark Lord. Word was spreading quickly that Raithos was
to be treated as if he were the Dark Lord himself, especially if you hoped to
be one of his followers.
Snape had already
spoken to the younger students and sent them off to bed. The older students were now gathered in the
common room.
Raithos regarded
Snape closely. He’d made eye contact
once or twice, but not for long enough to slip into his mind unnoticed. Over the summer, he’d become quite the
accomplished Legilimens and needed to get into Snape’s head to make sure he
wasn’t planning anything foolish. Like
spying for Dumbledore.
‘There! Perfect!’ Raithos thought triumphantly
as Snape spent just a second too long staring at him.
--
‘The boy has definitely changed, even the old fool is
afraid of him now. I suppose I must try
and forget who he was like all the rest.
My Lord will be most unhappy with me if I treated him event slightly as
I did before.’
Flash of a scene in
the Headmaster’s office, Dumbledore telling Snape to keep an eye on Harry and
report back to him with any information of Dark activity…Snape snorting inwardly
at the old man’s foolishness.
Flash of a scene with
his father, Snape kneeling before the throne, pledging his allegience to his
son…
--
Snape swayed on his
feet as Raithos withdrew from his mind.
He shakily turned to face the teenaged boy seated in front of him. He was shocked that Raithos had been able to
penetrate his shields so stealthily. No
one had ever been able to do that before, not even the Dark Lord himself. He walked over to Raithos and kneeled before
him.
“My Lord, I am
yours to command,” he said quietly, knowing Raithos would take it as a sign of
his loyalty, as well as an apology for the past six years. This boy was going to be the ruler of them
all someday, and Snape had no inclination to be on anything but his very good
side when that happened.
“Thank you,
Severus. After this know that it is not
necessary to bow before me unless the situation requires,” Raithos replied,
accepting both his loyalty and apology.
Severus stood up, nodding
at Raithos and Draco and returning to his place by the fireplace to address his
students.
“Welcome back to
another year, my Slytherins. As you all
know, there have been a few interesting developments this summer. I’m sure you have received instructions from
your parents to treat our newest Slytherin with the utmost respect.
“As always, I am
here for you should you feel the need to talk, and the older students will be
as well. This year may be difficult for
some, the backlash from the other houses will most likely be great. Come to me with any problems you may have.
“Remember the
rules. Carry yourself with all the
pride and dignity your blood and name deserves. Excel in your classes.
Live up to the name of Slytherin.
&;
“You got that
right,” Raithos whispered, lips brushing against Draco’s in a gentle kiss.
