Last Chapter:
Harry watched as Sirius ran out of the kitchen and felt his heart clench. He was sitting at the top the top of the main flight of stairs peering out from behind the banisters, he watched as the tears began to streak down Sirius’s face ‘I can’t believe I was such a bastard to him, ‘Black’ that was just fucking mean I can’t believe I said that to him’ I’m such a dick’
After Sirius had disappeared down some long forgotten corridor Harry hauled himself to his feet and went to check on Draco whilst still trying to think of a way to make up with Sirius, and Remus for that matter.
Chapter 7: Making new friends
Harry stood and walked over to Draco’s room. Inside he could hear Snape and Draco talking about something in hushed tones, he couldn’t make most of it out because the words were muffled by the closed door but he heard little snippets ‘my father’ ‘death eater’ and then ’fuck off’.
For a second Harry thought Draco had spoken the last comment but when the door swung open and a very angry looking Snape stepped out muttering about ‘fucking kids’ Harry changed his mind about who had spoken the last snippet.
After Snape had gone Harry stepped into the room. Draco was sitting up in the bed leaning against the propped up pillows looking decidedly happier than before. Draco had an odd smirk plastered on his face and was looking a bit less sickly than he had been previously. That probably had something to do with the empty vials that were now sitting next to Draco on his night stand.
“Hiya.” Harry grinned as he stepped into Dracos room.
“Hi.” Draco grinned back and gestured for Harry to sit down on the chair next to his bed, Harry happily obliged and was soon sitting comfortably.
“I see you’re feeling a lot better. Snape have something nice to tell you?”
Draco shifted in his bed and Harry thought he had just put his foot in it, so he quickly apologized, not wanting to upset Draco again as he had been the cause of most of Draco’s ‘episodes’ over the blondes stay at Grimmauld Place.
“I’m sorry, you don’t have to answer that.” Draco just laughed at Harry‘s worried expression.
“What?” Harry huffed.
“You’re treating me like one of your bloody Gryffindor friends.”
“Oh.” Harry replied. Obviously Malfoy didn’t want anything to do with him; well he wasn’t going to stay where he wasn’t wanted. The ungrateful little death-eating git. Dracco evidently didn’t care about the fact that Harry had helped him recover and even offered him his friendship. So much for gratitude. Harry stood and was about to leave the room.
“Whoa, Harry, I didn’t mean it like that, I was just commenting.” Draco rushed out not really thinking about what he was saying.
Harry turned a grin spreading across his face and he could not help the chuckle that escaped his lips at the sound of his name from Dracos lips.
“What.”
“You just called me Harry.”
“Oh, yeah, well, that is your name isn’t it,” Draco huffed, crossing his arms across his chest ‘Whoa, ‘Harry‘; shit I did call him Harry‘.
“Yeah, but I never thought I’d hear it coming out of your mouth.”
“Well I was under the impression that our situation had changed during the last week or so, but seen as you obviously wish to remain Potter the Golden Boy of Gryffindor that is what I’ll call you.”
Harry stood at the doorway shocked into silence for one of the few times in his life. Was Draco Malfoy offering his friendship? He opened and closed his mouth a few times, but stopped when Draco laughed.
“You know you look like a bloody goldfish when you do that.”
“No, I didn’t. I have never done that whilst staring in a mirror but thank-you for telling me, Draco.” He drawled out Draco’s name, feeling a bit weird, but then relaxed a bit as Draco grinned at him, noticing the humor behind the whole thing, and it was Draco who voiced it first.
“God, if the Weasel or Granger could hear you now they’d have you shipped off to St. Mungo’s.”
Harry just grinned; he knew Draco had just insulted his best mate but, well, what he didn’t know couldn’t hurt him, for the moment anyway.
“So, Draco, what do you want to do?” Draco raised a golden eyebrow at this, Harry obviously not catching the unintended innuendo.
“I don’t know.” He watched as Harry snuggled back into the armchair deep in thought over something. Draco didn’t really think someone could act so seriously over what they were going to do for the rest of the day. Then something he heard Harry had said whilst he was temporally ‘out of action’ came to him and an idea struck him.

Draco was lying on his bed, his eyes were shut but his ears were wide open. Draco had given up trying to move hours ago knowing he was in no fit state to wake up properly yet and knowing the spell Snape had put on him he would be out of it for at least another day or two.
He mentally sighed and went back to the task of listening to the noises echoing form next door. Luckily he was mentally awake, just not physically. ‘Did that actually make any sense’ Well, anyway, he could hear things, in the right way though, not the ‘I’m off my rocker way‘.
He strained his ears as he heard some doors banging and lower voices coming from the other side of the wall. He recognized Harry’s voice almost instantly because he was using the tone of speech he usually spoke to him with, just before the hexes started flying. Whatever was happening or had happened in that room had pissed Harry off something awful.
After a few more minutes he heard the sound of footsteps leaving the room next door and surprisingly enough heading next door to the room he was currently residing in. The footsteps stopped briefly and muffled voices filtered into the room, and Draco heard a crack and a yell followed by a tirade of foul language.
Eventually the shouting subsided and the door to his room was pulled open and then quickly shut again. He listened as the footsteps crossed the room and stopped by his bed, he heard the groan of the chair as a body was flung down into it, his breath hitching as a hand gently brushed across his forehead.
“Like a fallen angel.”
pqpqpqpqpqpq End Flashback pqpqpqpqpqpq
Draco smirked at Harry as he remembered what the raven-haired boy had said; not that he would be bringing it up anytime soon, he didn’t really want his lights punched out. It probably just came out; hell he was gorgeous after all. But he wanted to talk about what had made Harry burst into tears soon after and stay in his room for the next few days hardly ever leaving his side.
“What happened with you and Black.” He had identified the voice as Black’s a few days later when heard him and the werewolf talking outside the room. The werewolf had yelled something about Harry and then asked the other man if he was okay. ‘Sirius, are you ok?”. Draco had guessed it was Sirius Black…Harry’s godfather.
Harry snapped out of his revere at the sound of Dracos voice which had a rather soft tone to it and turned slowly round staring at Draco, his eyes filled with shock and sadness.
“How do you know about that?” he frowned, “And how do you know about Sirius?”
“I’m a Malfoy, I know everything.” Draco replied silkily.
“Well we...” Harry paused a knot formed in his throat.
“Had an argument, God Harry your acting like someone has died.” He looked over and saw the lost look in Harrys eyes.
“No-one has died have they?”
Harry shook his head wondering if he should tell Draco about Sirius and Remus.
‘can I trust him?’
“Its okay Pot-Harry, I won’t say anything.”
Harry grinned at his mistake and his new friend, and subconsciously at that minute for some reason that remains unknown, he knew he could trust Draco.
“Okay, y’see…”
Harry then proceeded to tell Draco the whole story from when he had walked into his room, where all three of them (Ron, Sirius and Remus) were arguing up till the incident with Sirius downstairs. He poured his heart out to Draco who was more than happy just to sit and listen to his new friend. Harry told him how he felt and why he felt it and when he finally ran out of steam he flopped back of his armchair waiting for Draco to say something.
Draco listened intently to Harry’s every word, he seriously doubted Harry had even told this much to Hermione and had to bite back a smile in case Harry thought he was laughing at him. As Harry talked he leaned forward and Draco, as stared into those deep green pools, felt his breath hitch. ‘god he has the most beautiful eyes’ Draco shook his head, putting the thoughts aside, and concentrated back on Harry words.
After Harry had stopped Draco leaned his head against the headboard contemplating Harry’s words, though soon he felt Harry eyes staring at him and he turned again.
“Well, what do you think?”
“I think you should go talk to him.”
“Right, but…”
“Wait till I’ve finished,” He glared and held a hand up at Harry, who huffed and folded his arms across his chest. Draco waited a second to make sure Harry wouldn’t say anything else before continuing.
“I think you should go and talk to him soon, personally Harry I think you are just overreacting, okay he didn’t tell you straight off, but he gave you a reason for that, he didn’t want you to lose your head and go off on one. And he was right, wasn’t he, you did the one think he was trying to prevent in him not telling you…”
“Yea, bu…” Harry tried to argue but Draco held up his hand silencing him again.
“You should go talk to him; tell him what you told me. I mean when you look at it ‘rationally’ it’s not really that big a deal. If you calm down and think about it properly then maybe you will realize that Sirius was just scared of how you would react, otherwise I’m sure he would have told you ages ago. It’s you that’s blown everything out of all proportion; I mean by the sounds of it you let all hell break loose. You punched the Weasel for heavens sake, never would I have expected you to do that. I don’t know why you reacted the way you did…but I’m saying now that I think what you did probably wasn’t one of the best ideas you’ve ever had.”
Draco watched as realization dawned on Harrys face. ‘God, I made such a big deal out of nothing’ Wow, Harry had just listen for once in his life and found ouy that he was actually wrong ‘Well there’s a first time for everything’ Harry stood up.
“You don’t mind if I go and talk to him now, if you want me to stay I will, but…” He looked towards the door ‘I need to talk to him NOW’
“It’s okay, go tell him what a jerk you’ve been, kiss and make up, then come back and keep me company.”
“Thanks Draco.” He gave him a brief hug that only showed a fragment of the joy he was feeling, and with that he sprinted out of the room intent on finding Sirius.
Draco watched the door with amusement and lay back, grinning to himself feeling his body tingling where Harry had hugged him. Draco had actually helped someone for the first time ever. He smirked and snuggled back down under the sheets ’Is Harry my friend?’ he couldn’t help but wonder. ’Well, it’s a start’
Strangely Draco had found that he actually liked having Harry around, even though most of the time he had been unconscious but he had found just knowing Harry around made him feel more relaxed. He yawned. Wow, he had tired himself out doing so mush listening. He smirked again, lifted his wand of the nightstand, and turned the lights off, slowly drifting off to sleep, dreaming of his newfound relationship with ‘Harry, my green eyed angel’

Harry ran down the way he had seen Sirius go earlier that day, stopping at every door and checking inside to see if Sirius was in there. He was getting tired, so he slowed to a brisk walk but kept checking all the doors as he went.
Eventually after 20 minutes of running he collapsed against the wall; he felt like he had been walking for hours. As Harry sat the cogs in his head began to turn and he almost slammed his head against the wall in irritation that he hadn’t thought of this before. He pulled his wand from his pocket and cast a heat-seeking spell. His wand twirled in his hand for few seconds for turning and pointing back the way he had just come.
“Oh, for heavens sake.”
He hauled himself to his feet and began walking again ‘this place is much bigger than I thought’ Harry thought as he strolled in the direction his wand was pointing. When the tip of his wand began to glow he knew he was getting close, and as he walked past one of the doors the wand swung around to face back towards it. Harry took a step back, and sure enough the wand was pointing straight at the door.
Harry wondered why he hadn’t opened the door on his first trip up the corridor and as he tried the handle he realized why. The door was locked, he hadn’t thought that Sirius had locked it from the inside. ’Duh’ Harry waved his wand, muttered a quick spell and the lock on the door clicked a few times, acknowledging that the spells had been removed.
Harry gently opened the door and looked around. It was an empty room, only a window in the far corner remained. The air smelt stale and dusty; this room had not been used in a long time. Harry was about to shut the door again and go to complain to Mr. Weasley that his wand wasn’t working properly when he heard shallow breaths coming from the other side of the door. Harry stepped into the room, looked around the door, and found Sirius curled up in a fetal position on the dusty floor. Harry took off his clock and wrapped it round Sirius’ slender form, shut the door, and knelt down beside him waiting for him to wake.

Harry watched a few minutes later as Sirius snapped back into reality, sitting up whilst rubbing the sleep from his eyes which were all red and puffed up from his break down before. He stared in shock as he saw Harry watching him, a grin plastered firmly across his features.
Sirius shrugged Harry’s robe off his shoulders, handing it back to him, mumbling a small thanks as he did so. Sirius absentmindedly raked his fingers through his hair, wondering what he should say first.
“Er, Harry, um” He looked at Harry lost, wondering why the hell Harry was there, he didn’t even know how Harry had found him, yet alone opened the door with all the locking spells he had placed on it. Sirius frowned, trying to figure it out but ended up laughing when he caught Harry’s eye. Harry sat back on his heels, grinning at him like some clown escaped from the circus.
Harry looked at Sirius, his jaw beginning to ache from all the grinning.
“Harry look…”
“Sirius…” They both started simultaneously.
“Sirius, sorry, but can you listen for a sec, I have something important to say.”
Harry waited for Sirius’ nod confirming that he would listen
“First of all I want to say I’m sorry…”
Sirius opened his mouth to argue but Harry held up a hand, silencing him, in an eerily similar manner to what Draco had done to him before.
“Yes, I’m sorry, I over reacted. I was a royal prick. It isn’t up to me who you are with and I am truly overjoyed that it is Remus that you have decided to have a relationship with. I think you two make an adorable couple. It’s just, well, I don’t really know why I went off on one, and I understand why you didn’t tell me before…”
“You do?” Sirius gazed into Harry’s eyes hoping that he wasn’t still asleep.
“Yeah, of course, I was talking to Draco about it.” Harry averted his eyes from Sirius’ as he said this, knowing that Sirius would probably take it the ‘wrong’ way.
“What?” Harry huffed crossing his arms across his chest. He had stopped talking because at the mention of Draco’s name Sirius’ eyebrows had shot up and had disappeared into his hair
“Draco, is it now, huh.”
“We’re just friends.” Harry reasoned. He did not like the look Sirius was giving him.
“Yeah, whatever.”
Sirius wasn’t stupid, in fact he was far from it; he was a lot more observant than people gave him credit for. Half the time when he wasn’t joking around he would just sit quietly and watch people (not in a stalkerish kind of way) and as a result he knew things about people that they didn’t know about themselves. For instance, after Harry told him he was gay, Sirius had been thinking about him and the Malfoy kid. He knew they had never really got on, and Harry had repeatedly said that he HATED Malfoy, but there was such a thin line between love and hate and Sirius wasn’t quite sure really what side of that line they were both on. ‘Maybe with a bit of a push in the right direction….’
“Yo, Sirius.” Harry waved his hand in front of Sirius’ face, snapping him back into reality.
“Whoa, you kinda zoned out there for a minute.”
“Sorry.” He sheepishly turned his attention back to Harry.
“So anyway, I was a first-class jerk and I am really sorry.” Harry let out a slow breath and looked back at Sirius, half expecting his godfather to tell him that he could fuck off.
Sirius just smiled weakly and pulled Harry towards him, capturing him in a death grip. Harry flung his arms around Sirius, tucking his head under Sirius’ chin, and returning the hug with fervor. After a second Sirius loosened his grip a bit so that Harry could breathe, but still kept his arms firmly placed around Harry.
They sat in silence, just enjoying each other’s company, Sirius’s fingers moving to run through Harry’s untameable hair.
“I’m sorry, too, Harry. I should have told you.”
Harry pulled back from Sirius.
“It was BOTH our faults. Agreed?”
Sirius nodded, and stood back and pulled Harry to his feet, before giving him another quick hug.
“Hungry?”
Harry’s stomach growled in agreement, he hadn’t eaten much over the last few days, he had only come downstairs around once a day to grab a quick sandwich or glass or water. Sirius grinned and pulled Harry out the door, in the direction of the kitchen and food.
pqpqpqpqpqpq
Sirius, Harry, Remus, Hermione and the Weasleys sat round that table for tonight at dinner. Tonks was away on order business. Harry had apologised to everyone, especially Remus, for his behaviour over the last few days and things were now fairly back to normal.
They had all just finished dinner and were all talking about absolute nonsense. The Weasley twins were devising a new sweet; one to change someone’s hair colour to match their mood and were trying to work out who they could use as a guinea pig.
“No, Fred, George. I don’t care which one of you it is I’m not eating that!!”
“Hey Harry, do you want to help me and Remy sort dungeons.”
“You have dungeons?”
“Where did you think we were yesterday?”
“Oh, I can’t. I promised I would go see, um, thingy.”
Sirius grinned, looking at Remus and then back at Harry. He had told Remus all about the Harry/Draco thing when Harry had gone back up to see Draco earlier that day.
“Yeah, you go see ‘thingy’, we can do it another day, okay?”
“Sure thing, Siri”
Harry did not detect the hint of amusement in Sirius’s voice and carried on talking to Charlie about Quidditch.
pqpqpqpqpqpq
“Hey, Draco,” Harry called out as he shut the door into Draco’s room behind him. Harry walked forward trying to balance a tray full of food and goblets of pumpkin juice in his hands.
“I brought you some food,” he said placing the tray on Draco’s lap and sitting down on the bed opposite him.
“I would never have guessed.”
Draco smirked as Harry picked up some toast and began to absent-mindedly munch on it.
“I thought it was my food.”
“Oh, sorry.” Harry held the half eaten piece of toast out to Draco who pulled a face of disgust.
“No, it’s alright Harry, you eat it.”
Harry just laughed at Draco’s face and started eating again.
“So did you talk to Black?”
“Yeah, thanks for that.”
“No problem, that’s what friends are for.”
“So we’re friends now, I mean, I thought you hated me.”
Draco shifted on the bed, pulling the tray closer towards him, picking at the plate of food in front of him and keeping his mouth shut, not willing to reveal his intentions to Harry.
“You were such a bastard to me, and now you want to be friends, it doesn’t really make sense.”
Draco looked up meeting Harry’s confused eyes, and placed his fork down on the tray.
“I never really hated you.”
“You didn’t?”
“No, my father told me to befriend you and when you didn’t, ‘I think I can tell the wrong sort for myself thanks,’” Draco mocked Harry’s tone of voice, “You completely shunned me and then left me to face the consequences.”
“Your father hit you.”
Draco inclined his head slightly to show Harry he was right.
Harry was taken aback, he felt terrible. He didn’t know something as small as that could have such dire consequences for Draco.
“After that I knew there was no way I could ever be your friend, and I couldn’t stand who you chose for friends. I despised the fact that you thought they were better than I was. I disliked you for that, that you were famous; everyone liked you, you could do no wrong. I disliked you, but I never hated you.”
Harry sat gob smacked. Draco was actually opening up to him.
“But you,” Draco continued, “Your hate was real.”
“I know, but I only hated you for how you treated me and my friends.”
“So, if I don’t treat you and your friends badly, you won’t hate me anymore.”
“I don’t hate you now anyway, you have been fairly nice to me over the last few days.”
“So, friends?”
Draco held out his hand much like he had done in Hogwarts in their first year, except this time Harry took it, gripping it firmly with his own hand. The handshake lasted longer than it should have; their hands lingering slightly, neither of their eyes leaving each others.
“Friends.”
