Unexpected Obsessions
Chapter 7: Shattered Dreams
September first came much too soon for the staff at Hogwarts. There were a few last minute changes, as the new DADA professor unexpectedly left due to a family illness. Remus was sent a letter begging for his return, which he gratefully accepted. He and Sirius were to return the evening of the welcoming feast. Another unfortunate change was Madam Hooch's announcement of her retirement the following term. She had written to Harry offering him her position, after discussing it with Minerva and Albus. So far, no one had received his reply and Hermione got a bit worried. Harry loved flying and she knew he would accept it immediately. The delay in his acceptance was what worried her.
She and Severus sat next to each other at the welcoming feast and made side bets on which student would go to which house. He surprisingly was correct on everyone that got placed into his house, and for the most part placed the others correctly as well. Hermione asked him how he got so good at it, and he replied by saying that if she had to witness as many sortings as he had over the years, she'd quickly pick up the knack as well.
The hardest part of the new year was the lack of time they had for one another. She had to be in the library everyday at seven, and could leave at eight for breakfast. Then she'd return until noon, when she could eat lunch. After returning, she was allowed to eat dinner in the library, and close up at nine. She had no idea she'd be spending so much time in there when she agreed to take the position, but she had no idea she'd be in love with Severus once the term started either. Every evening, she would go to the dungeons at nine, then return in the early morning. She often wondered why she still kept her chambers, as did he. They hadn't talked about her moving to the dungeons, but thought it was frivolous for her to keep them, and only be in there maybe once a day.
The morning of her birthday, she woke alone, and noticed she had an annoying pain in her side. Just cramps, ugh! She thought to herself, looking to see if Severus was in the bathroom. Only a note left on his pillow, was any sign he had been there. He had been needed in his Common Room, and said that he would see her at breakfast. She showered, and made her way to the Great Hall hoping they could spend the day together, it being a Saturday. When all that remained was her biscuit and orange juice, she realized he wasn't coming. Remus questioned his whereabouts, and she told him she had no idea only that he was needed in the Slytherin Common Room. Just as she was about to leave, Sirius appeared and handed her a note from Severus. He told her he'd seen him in the corridor, and was sent to deliver her the note. She was a bit disappointed, and reluctantly unfolded the paper and read.
My Beloved Hermione,
Unfortunately, I will not be able to spend the day with you. I have been detained until at least dinner. I will inform the houselves that we will be eating in my chambers and that a special dinner will be needed in observance of your birthday.
Oh, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I really wish I could spend the day with you, but I can't. Why don't you see if Sirius and Remus would like to go into Hogsmeade this afternoon for a little birthday celebration? I'm sure they would accompany you. Sirius always jumps at any opportunity to drink. Once again I apologize for missing the opportunity to see your beautiful face. I hope you forgive me, but I cannot escape my engagements this afternoon.
I will make up for it, I assure you. And you can get your presents from me at dinner. I have received several already in the dungeons, it seems the owls think you've taken permanent residence in the dungeons. Not that that would be a bad thing. Please forgive me, as I already have asked. Enjoy your afternoon, and I shall see you promptly at six o'clock.
Forever yours,
Severus
Hermione's eyes filled with tears, as she reread the note. She couldn't believe he wouldn't be spending her birthday with her. It was so unlike him. And suggesting she ask Remus and Sirius to go to Hogsmeade, he must be off his rocker. He wouldn't ever suggest those two take her anywhere. Let alone to Hogsmeade for a birthday celebration which meant he was suggesting a trip to the Hog's Head as well. Part of her was so hurt and angry that she asked them to go before she could even register the thought. And the pain in her side had not subsided like she thought it would.
"Well, it seems I will be free this afternoon, so would you two care to go to Hogsmeade?"
Remus cast a look of triumph to Sirius and they both said yes. "We'll get our cloaks, and we'll meet you in the Entrance Hall." Remus offered while taking Sirius' hand and practically dragging him out of the Great Hall. Their room was in the Ravenclaw wing so it shouldn't take them too long. She hadn't the energy to go to her rooms and get her cloak, so she summoned one from the dungeons. In a few short minutes, they were heading off to the secret passageway that led into Honeydukes. After all these years, Sirius and Remus were still kids at heart. They jumped at any opportunity to relive an adventure of the Marauders.
They climbed out of trapdoor at Honeydukes, and made their way to the Hog's Head. Hermione had only been there once, and had left considerably drunker than when she had entered. Once inside, she and Remus found a booth in the back and Sirius got their drinks. He brought Hermione a bottle of Witches Hooch, a drink Remus highly recommended. He said it tasted like peach wine, but it hit you like a ton of bricks. One of those drinks that goes down too smooth. He and Sirius helped themselves to a pitcher of butterbeer, with a shot of Firewhiskey.
"So, tell us Hermione, when are you planning on marrying?" Remus asked taking another shot of the whiskey.
"Well, we haven't discussed a specific date. I would like a winter wedding, perhaps around Christmas." She drank some more from her goblet, and realized that Remus was very right about this drink.
"So, a wedding this Christmas then?"
"Oh, I don't know. That's a bit soon don't you think?"
"And getting engaged in under two months isn't?" Sirius remarked.
"I guess to everyone else it seems sudden, but it doesn't to us. We feel very comfortable with our relationship." She had finished her drink and started on another. "Besides, look at you two. You're hardly ones to talk."
"What do you mean Hermione?" She had peaked Remus' curiosity.
"Well, look. Two men that were joined at the hip for so many years, one who was known as the ladies man at Hogwarts, discovers that they are madly in love with each other?"
"It does seem a bit odd but can I tell you something?" Remus was about to tell her their secret.
"Yes, of course."
"We were together at school. We. We just didn't tell anyone. Not even James and Lily knew."
"You were able to keep it a secret from your best friends?"
"Yes, and it wasn't easy. When we graduated and moved in together, everyone just thought it was because Moony needed someone to help support him. They never caught on to the fact that one room was never slept in, one bed was always made. We shared everything except for trousers. And if I wasn't a few inches taller, we would have shared them too. It was so funny. They'd come over after we had, well, you know. And we'd tell them that these two girls just left. Lily thought we were disgusting. She thought we just used these girls. It was so much fun making up names each week. I think she started to catch on though. I gave Remus a very sentimental present for his birthday, and I think Lily knew. Too bad they died before we could tell them. Prongs was always on us trying to get to find someone to love the way he loved Lily. It sort of hurt not being able to tell him that we had." Sirius took a big swig of his drink, and peered into the bottle for a few moments. It was very painful for him to talk about James.
"I bet you had more than one close call." Hermione was really interested in what they were talking about. She hadn't learned much about James and it was so intriguing to hear how much Harry was like his father.
"We had our fair share. The closest was when Harry was born. We were right in the middle of something, and James' head appeared into our fireplace. Luckily Sirius was under the covers. James apologized for interrupting but insisted we get to St. Mungo's. I nearly died of laughter after he left. Sirius was nearly crying it was so funny."
"Then at the hospital, when I held Harry for the first time, something inside me just broke, and I started sobbing like a baby. I don't know what it was. Probably the honor of being the Godfather to something so precious. Moony here was there to comfort me, and he gave me a kiss on the cheek. Lily watched us, but never said a word. She thought it was so sweet how Moony knew just how to comfort me. We had a lot of fun babysitting for Harry. He was always getting into something or another. Prongs would let him hold his wand and the kitchen would be destroyed in seconds. Lily would get so mad at us. That's where Harry gets that fiery temper of his. She could give you a look and you knew your arse had had it."
"Gods Paddy, I miss them." Remus grabbed Sirius' hand, and Hermione felt their loss. She wanted to tell them how much Severus missed Lily too, but didn't want to cause any problems.
She took another drink, but began feeling a bit funny. It wasn't the alcohol. She began to sweat, and she felt as if her temperature was at least 105. Sirius noticed the color leave her face, and Remus grabbed at her just as she was about to slump onto the floor.
"Hermione, what's wrong?" Sirius questioned scooting over to her side of the table, bracing her with his arms.
"I don't feel good." She regained her composure and sat very still at the table. She began feeling dizzy, and her heart was racing.
"Obviously. What's wrong?"
"I feel weak, and this pain in my side won't go away. I thought it was just cramps, but that's not it." Sirius made a disgusted face at that remark, and Remus sent him a look that said "grow up."
"Has this ever happened before?" Remus asked very concerned.
"No, well, it really isn't the time for my period. I thought I still had another week, but I guess I miscalculated."
"Hermione, you are a twenty-three year old woman. I hardly doubt you would miscalculate something that you have experienced every month for over ten years. Come on. You need to see Poppy."
"I'm fine now, I think. Quit fussing over me." But just as she said that, another sharp pain made itself present and she passed out on the table.
"Ohhh God Hermione." Sirius yelled, and they knew they had to get her back to Hogwarts.
Sirius picked her up into his arms and followed Remus out of the pub. It was quite a long walk back to Hogwarts, so Sirius held Remus' hands, and apparated back to the gates at Hogwarts.
"Come on Siri-, we have to hurry." Neither one paid any attention to the onlookers. They apparated to just outside the gates, and Sirius walked as fast as his legs could carry him up to the infirmary. They saw only a few students on the way, one a Gryffindor named Carl Brown, was told to get Severus. He was in the dungeons preparing for Hermione's return. All afternoon, he had been moving her things into the dungeon, and rearranging so that they could both feel comfortable living there. He'd went as far as placing a desk to the front of his so they could watch each other while working. Remus and Sirius were in on his plan, but all things changed once Hermione fell ill.
They reached the infirmary, Hermione still out cold in Sirius' arms. "Poppy! Poppy! Where are you? We need help immediately!" Remus yelled as loud as he could. He didn't care about the sleeping patients in the wing, only Hermione.
"There, there, Remus. I'm coming. No need to shout!" Which, is exactly what she had done. When she saw Hermione's limp body in Sirius' arms, she went pale. "Hurry Sirius. Place her down over here." She led him to a secluded part of the wing so that they wouldn't be bothered. "What happened?"
They proceeded to tell her what had happened, and told her what they knew she had ate that day and drank. She listened intently to what they had to say, and was very interested in what Remus had said about the acute pain in her side. "She said she thought it was cramps, did she?" Both men nodded in agreement, just as Poppy undid her robes revealing a very clammy pale body . "Gentlemen, please give us some privacy." She didn't wait for them to answer. She pulled the curtains closed, and used a charm so that they couldn't be disturbed. Once Severus had heard, Poppy knew he would be storming in there like a raging bull. She needed to examine her thoroughly before she could treat her effectively, and she didn't need any distractions while she was doing so.
Severus had just showered and was getting dressed when the alarms on his door went off. Someone was intruding on him, and it wasn't a Slytherin but a Gryffindor. He quickly tied up his boots, and answered the door. He found Carl Brown very flushed and out of breath when he answered. "Professor-Snape- Madam Granger- ill- Professor Lupin- Hospital wing." He wasn't even speaking full sentences, but Severus knew where to go. He ran down the corridor and out of the dungeons, black robes billowing behind him. No one stepped in his way, in fact, the students parted when they saw him coming.
"Poppy! What has happened? What's wrong with Hermione?" He was stopped by Remus, placing a hand on his chest.
"Calm down Severus. Listen to us. Poppy won't let you in. She is examining Hermione and will be out to tell us what's wrong just as soon as she finishes."
"What happened? I am assuming you went to Hogsmeade as I suggested?"
"Yes we did. But listen to us." Sirius proceeded to tell him what happened and exactly what she had said.
"Dear God! What is wrong with her?" Severus' heart was racing and his mind was thinking of every possible thing that could be wrong with her. Poppy was quickly at work removing Hermione's clothing and bringing down her fever. She took her wand to her stomach, and shuddered when it produced a green light. She pressed firmly just below her navel, and Hermione yelled as she released the pressure.
"What the hell is that?" The severe pain had brought her back to consciousness.
"My goodness child. Your appendix is enflamed. I need to take a quick x-ray to see if it has burst." She used her wand to cast a yellow light over Hermione's stomach, then an image emerged from the tip. "My dear, it has burst. I need to remove it immediately. You could go to St. Mungo's and let them remove it surgically, or you can drink an elixir that will destroy the poison. It will also destroy the appendix as well. It's rather nasty, and you will feel like hell for at least the next week, but I think it is the best method. You don't want the pus to infect your other organs. That would be life threatening."
Hermione began to cry and Poppy told her to lie still and try to be calm. "I can't I feel very sick." With that said, a trash can appeared just as she vomited. Severus and the others heard her, and he tried with all his might to get through Poppy's wards and comfort his Hermione. Nothing he tried worked. He was forced to sit out there helpless, listening to her moan and writhe in pain. "Where's Severus? I want to see him!"
"I'm sure he's out there/ Just lie still. I have to check a few more things." Poppy took a few more x-rays, and then nodded to herself as if she already knew.
"What are those for?"
"Oh, don't you worry about that. I just had to do a few more tests. Everything looks good. Really good."
"Will you please let Severus in here now? I can feel him pacing the floor outside the curtain. I need to see him." Just as Poppy opened the curtains, she vomited again. Her throat was sore and very dry. Remus read her mind and summoned a cup of water.
"Hermione, my God! What's wrong?" He rushed to her side, and pressed his lips to her forehead.
"Severus, my appendix has burst. I have to have an operation or drink an elixir. I need you to help me decide." She was stumbling over her words and the tears began falling.
"Shh, I heard. You'll be fine. I suggest you let me make the elixir. You'll not have any scar, nor do you have to endure any anesthesia. You can come to my bedchamber and I'll give it to you down there. Then, you'll remain there until you're fully recovered. " He kept comforting her and she seemed to calm down a bit. Poppy had given her a gown and encouraged her to put it on. Severus closed the curtains so that no one could see and helped Hermione the best that he could. Once she was dressed, he discussed the elixir with her and urged her to allow him to prepare it. "Hermione, you'll have no scar nor much pain with the elixir method. You will however have to remain in bed for one week, to allow the elixir to properly run it's course. I will have to give you a series of potions to help with the recovery and with any discomfort you may feel. The worst part of them is the taste. I can assure you of that. Minerva herself has gone through what you're experiencing now and I can ask her to speak to you if you have any reservations about doing this."
"No, I trust you Severus."
Poppy was a bit apprehensive about letting her be moved, but she knew not to cross Severus. He had his mind made up way before he asked her. And he only did so out of respect for the mediwitch. "If one thing happens Severus, that you do not know how to deal with, you had better send for me. Agreed?"
Severus just nodded, then wrapped his robes around Hermione's nearly naked body. He had Sirius throw floo powder into the fire, then climbed in with Hermione gripped tightly in his arms. When they arrived in the dungeons, Hermione was very shocked at the sight of her things being in his rooms. She had no idea that he had been working on that all day. She just supposed he had a meeting of some sorts that he had to keep. "Are you upset with me Hermione?" He questioned her as he placed her down in bed.
"Not at all Severus, just surprised. That's all."
"I'm sorry I wasn't there with you in Hogsmeade. I had been arranging your things in here, and moving furniture here and there, trying to get everything perfect so we could both feel at home here. I hope you don't mind? I just never want to be away from you, not ever. It only seemed like the next logical thing to do. If we're going to be married someday, we should see if we can at least live together first."
"We already did that Severus, remember in June? I stayed with you? Ring any bells?" She must have been feeling a bit better since she was teasing him.
"My memory isn't failing me quite yet my dear. Of course I remember, but we weren't engaged to be married t We We were only dating. Some things have changed."
"Yes they have. And for the better."
"Much better. Now, I am afraid that I will have to leave you to prepare the elixir for you. It will take me about an hour, and then I shall return to you. Here, open a few of your gifts from your friends. I'm sure that it will help take your mind off of your situation. He handed her a few presents that had arrived and a few cards as well. He leaned over her and gave her a soft kiss on the forehead. He told her that if she needed anything just to yell. He would hear her immediately.
She opened the first present, which she knew immediately had come from Ron. It was wrapped in Quidditch paper, no less. He and Lavender had gotten her a book about ancient witches and wizards, and a new set of quills and ink. The second present was from Harry and Ginny. It was a photo album of them while still students at Hogwarts. It was divided into years, and the last two tabs had Life before Mrs. Snape, and Life as Mrs. Snape. Hermione got a chuckle out of it. Leave it to Harry and Ginny to go sentimental on her. The last present was a large box that had a card attached to the top. She read the card and was happy to see it was from all the staff at Hogwarts. Inside was a beautiful Red and Gold Gryffindor robe, with matching gloves and muffler to boot. The note said:
Hermione,
We all felt sorry for you having to sit with the Slytherins at the Quidditch matches. So, we pooled our resources and bought you something that would leave no doubt as to where your loyalties lie. Mainly, we just wanted to see Severus' face when you sit in the Slytherin stands wearing Gryffindor colors. We hope you like it very much. It has a cooling and a heating charm in it so that whenever you get cold or hot, it adjusts to your body temperature. Happy Birthday, and never forget it is a wonderful pleasure you being here.
The Faculty
Hermione got a kick out of the card and laughed a bit, however it was the wrong thing to do. She felt ill again, and tried relaxing to calm her stomach. It took a few minutes, but the nausea left. She leaned her head back onto the pillow, and was fast to sleep in a few short minutes. Severus returned to find her sleeping peacefully, the Gryffindor robe spread neatly on the bed. He scoffed as he read the note. But, it was a very humorous gesture. He hated to wake her, but the elixir had to be drank precisely when it cooled to sixty degrees.
He watched her for a few minutes, wondering about what she was dreaming of, praying it was him. It still seemed all too good to be true. He hadn't done anything in his life worthy of receiving her love. He knew there just had to be a terrible mistake made by fate. She'd only laughed upon him for his entire life, why was she being so generous all of the sudden? He looked at the phial, and the temperature had dropped to sixty-five degrees. He had to wake her immediately.
"Hermione, wake up. Come on. Wake up." He shook her shoulders a bit, and finally woke her from her peaceful slumber. "I have your elixir. You need to wake up." She opened her eyes, to find Severus sitting on the bed beside her, holding the phial that contained the elixir.
"It's ready Severus?"
"Yes it is my sweet. You must drink it when it cools precisely to sixty degrees. It is at sixty-three degrees now. Please lie down flatly. I will pour it into your mouth. No matter what it tastes like, you have to keep it down, and you must drink it all. It will not work properly if you don't. I regret to inform you it will make you sleep for about three hours, or until it destroys the unhealthy cells. I'll be here the entire time, I will not leave your side. You may feel a bit of fire in your stomach as it hits the poisonous cells, but you won't be able to wake up and the pain should subside rather quickly. Please trust me. I would never let anything harm you."
He peered into her brown eyes, looking for trust, and found it instantly. No one had ever trusted him so willingly before. It was a very good feeling. The potion cooled to sixty-one degrees, and she told him she loved him just as he began to put the phial up to her mouth. At precisely sixty degrees, he opened her mouth and poured the elixir down. She closed her eyes immediately and her cheeks turned a purple then a bit red. The potion had been a success, now it only had to find the sickness, and destroy it.
Severus held her shoulders tightly to the bed, in case of any unwanted reaction to the elixir. When the redness left her face, he knew she was now in a peaceful slumber and would be for another three hours. A part of him wanted to spit on the gods that had made this terrible tragedy happen to his beloved Hermione. A big part.
He looked over her gifts spread on the bed, the photo album from Ginny and Harry catching his eye. He browsed through the photographs, and could identify almost every occasion that inspired the picture. There were some of the Quidditch matches with Harry flying brilliantly as always, a few taken in Hogsmeade on weekend visits, and a few taken in the Gryffindor Common Room of Hermione actually joking with her friends. He could see how those rare moments required a photo. A few pictures taken at the Burrow caught his eye. One was of the Weasley boys frolicking in the yard. In the background, Harry and Hermione were watching from a distance, and were they holding hands? The other picture was of Arthur, Ginny and Molly and in the background of that one they were sneaking off into the woods. I guess you have always had impeccable taste in women, Potter. He realized that Harry had meant a bit more to Hermione than Ron had, and for the first time in his life, he was grateful that Potter, no Harry, had been fortunate enough to have someone so caring and passionate by his side during his terrible youth.
He was almost finished browsing through the photos when he heard a persistent knock on his chamber door. He assumed it was Poppy checking on Hermione, and was fully prepared to let her know he was more than capable of handling the delicate situation. However, when he opened the door, Remus was standing there and not Poppy. "She's sleeping and is fine. If there's nothing else then?" He tried to shut the door, but Remus put his foot in the way.
"Severus, I'm not here to check on Hermione. Well, that's not entirely true. I do care about her, but I have more devastating news that will need to be discussed immediately. May I come in?"
"Can this really not wait until the morning? She is peacefully sleeping, and I do not wish to be away from her."
"Can I come to your bedchamber then? It is really important. Albus would've come himself, but he is seeing to Harry and Ginny. Sirius has just left to Apparate to Godric's Hollow. He wants to be there for Harry."
"You're being very vague Remus. What has happened?"
"Can I just come in? I'd rather not discuss it in the corridor where lingering students can hear." Severus let him inside, and reinforced his wards. He led him to his bedchamber where Hermione was still sleeping. As if he expected her to be fully awake by now. He motioned for Remus to sit in the chair next to the hearth, where he sat in the opposite chair. "I'd offer tea, but I'm not exactly good at brewing it. I do have some scotch however, or brandy perhaps?"
"Do you not have anything stronger?" Remus replied in a very somber voice.
"Good God man. This really must be bad."
"You have no idea." Severus summoned a bottle of Rum from the cabinet and two glasses from the rack. After he'd poured their drinks, and Remus had downed his in one shot, he poured him another. He was really beginning to worry about the news that Remus was sent to deliver.
"Well, let's hear it. What's so devastating?" He wouldn't dare let Remus know he was nervous and anxious about what he was about to tell him.
"Severus, it's about Ron, Lavender, and Demitri."
"What about them?" Remus' hands were trembling and he put them under his thighs to help subside the shaking.
"They're dead Severus."
"They're what?" Nothing Severus could have thought about would have prepared him for what Remus had just told him. He hadn't the faintest idea that he was to tell of death, nor death of a very close friend. Severus picked his jaw up from the floor, and asked the most logical of questions. "Who?"
"The Dark Mark was seen floating above their house, and you can imagine what happened. Fred and George discovered them. Along with Angelina and Oliver. They had been invited over for dinner. As soon as they discovered their bodies, Oliver apparated to the Ministry. We knew about thirty minutes ago, but assumed you were giving Hermione her elixir then. Albus didn't want to disturb you while you were working."
"Thank you for your patience. I would have been giving it to her at that time. What does Albus intend to do? I would have thought that all remaining Death Eaters would be far too afraid to try something so stupid."
"Apparently not. Can you think of any Death Eaters that would want to avenge Voldemort's defeat?"
"To the best of my knowledge, they all have been captured or sought out and destroyed. Macnair is even in custody now. I don't know who would do this. And why them? It's not as i has has a very important status in society."
"Let's not forget that he is the Minister of Magic's son."
"I suppose that would be a motive."
"Severus, you have to tell Hermione. She'll be devastated. As if she hasn't already had to endure a terrible amount of pain today. I shudder to think how she'll react when she learns of their death."
"So do I Remus. She's due to awake in two hours. When she does, I shall break the news to her gently. Until then, I will try to think of anything significant. Inform Albus that we wish to be left alone until noontime. Then I will share any information that I have concerning their death."
"Very well Severus. It really is a loss isn't it?"
"Yes it is Remus."
Remus left Severus' chambers, and he began pacing the floor in front of the hearth. He had no idea how to tell Hermione about Ron's death. The only way possible was to be direct. There is no easy way to tell someone that a very close and dear friend is dead. But the worse part is how they died. Severus had a lot of thinking to do before she woke up. He drank another glass of rum, and thought about anything prior that may give a clue as to who it was. Macnair being arrested was the only thing he could think of. Perhaps if he was forced Veritaserum he may say who committed the senseless murders.
Hermione began to stir, and was moaning his name. He cleared the bed, undressed, and curled in behind her. He lifted her up so that she was on his chest, and when her beautiful eyes opened, all traces of pain and discomfort were gone. He damned himself for having to bring back that pain and misery.
"Feeling better?"
"Um, a little. My stomach cramps a bit, but it's not too unbearable. When do I have to drink the first potion?"
"Not until in the morning. And you'll have one every morning for the next 7 days."
"Ugh." She really didn't want to take anything that tasted a bit like what she had just drank. "I hope it's not prepared from the same ingredients."
"No, it's not. It tastes much better. It's just a simple healing potion. That's all." His voice was emotionless, and she felt he was a bit uneasy. She knew something was bothering him.
"Severus, what's wrong?" He should have known he wouldn't fool her. He was a fool himself for trying to fool her.
"Hermione, come here." He pulled her completely on top of him and pressed her head to his chest. She lay there, watching the fire, while he tried to compose a delicate statement as to what was bothering him. He couldn't so he just said it. "Hermione, there's been a horrendous crime committed tonight." He rubbed her back and head with his hands trying to prepare her for the devastating news. "Ron, Lavender, and Demitri were murdered tonight by Death Eaters. I'm so sorry."
