DISCLAIMER: Once again.... I own NOTHING of Harry Potter. I make no money from the sharing of this or any other fan fiction I write. JKR thought it up. Warner Bros turned it into a movie. I mean only the highest compliment in my dabbling in it.
A/N: I am trying to FINALLY get this story finished. I BELIEVE we are getting down to the last three of four chapters now....
Chapter 7
Draco found Hermione in her favorite place. Unbeknownst to most people, there was a bay window in the Restrict
ed Section of the library. Most people never saw it because the curtains were kept drawn so not to endanger the already ancient tombs that were stored there. But Draco and Hermione both knew the spot was there. They had found it together last year.
Of course, they had agreed to share the secret spot, only because they both tended to seek it out during times when privacy was needed to sort out thoughts. The truce between them had been if one was already there, the other would leave.
As he stood staring at the thick draperies, he made the decision. For once, he would not leave. Like it or not, she wouldn’t either. They had things to discuss. Stepping up to the window, he pulled the curtain back, just enough to see that she was indeed there.
She glared at him silently but said nothing as he held his forefinger against his lips and climbed in beside her. Once he secured the curtains, and cast a silencing notice not charm, he turned back and looked at Granger truly for the first time.
Her eyes were puffy and red from crying and she had an almost wounded look about her that pulled at his heart. He sat there for a moment, feeling a little lost himself. This was uncharted territory. He wasn’t used to being a confidant to her. Bloody hell, they had only just gotten over the hating each other.
But as he sat there looking at her, he knew exactly what she needed. Opening his arms in invitation, he waited silently. His heart nearly stopped with fear she would reject him she looked so unsure.
But then, her sobs broke through and she moved into his arms, holding to him as she cried. He embraced her and stoked her hair soothingly as his mother was known to do for him when he was little and would have nightmares. They sat there like that for a while before he finally spoke. “Do you hate being shackled to me so badly, then?” His heart fluttered at the thought of her refusing what was coming between them. “Does the thought of being with me turn your stomach?”
She slowly pulled away and wiped the tears from her cheeks before shaking her head. “I had begun to like you before all this even happened.” She shrugged. “I just didn’t believe you’d ever fancy me.” Sighing, she toyed with the top button of his shirt. “Not in that way.”
He rolled his eyes and clicked his tongue before smiling. “You know, that hex made me a horny bloke, but it didn’t make me a liar. Actually, I spoke truths to you last night I’ve kept hidden inside my heart for a long time now.” He chuckled. “I made a farthing idiot of myself; truth be told.
She smiled then, and took his hand. “I rather liked you last night. If that’s your real feelings, I wouldn’t mind getting to know that side of you much better.”
Draco pulled her closer. “Oh you shall, witch. Trust me. You shall. I daresay soon after graduation, I’ll be calling you wife.”
Hermione’s blinked. “Wife?” She paled. “Do you think it might be a little too early for that?”
He shook his head before kissing her nose. “If Snape’s curse works the way he says it does, we aren’t going to want to be far from each other anyway. And with or without the curse, there is no one I’d rather call wife.”
“But your Dad. . .” she started.
“My Father has already given his blessing.” He kissed her deeper now. She relaxed into his arms and wrapped her arms around his neck. She hadn’t considered marriage was how this all might end. But as she relaxed into his embrace, she knew there really wasn’t anywhere else she wanted to be.
Even as she enjoyed his kiss, a thought made her pull away again. “Draco,” she looked deeply into his eyes as she finished, “What’s this going to mean for your Father’s spy status? What about you?” worry made her eyes shimmer with unshed tears. “They can’t expect you to still act as a spy now, can they?”
Draco returned her gaze and searched his mind for some way to allay her fears. Unfortunately, he was unable to do so. The thought of what the Dark Lord would require of Lucius once he learned of his son’s choice of lover made him ill at ease. He only hoped Dumbledore had an ace up his sleeve.

“Well, my friend, I’m very eager to hear how you plan to fix this mess.” Lucius sat in the chair across from Dumbledore, gazing at the sullen, dark wizard beside him. He was silently glad of the turn of events because he hoped it would change the outcome for his son. It was one thing for him to have to be in close proximity to Voldemort, but Draco was too young to risk it all if there was no need.
Dumbledore sat, elbows resting on his desk and twiddled his thumbs as he too watched Severus closely. He said nothing. He gave no hint to his emotions over the incident. He simply sat there, waiting.
Severus shrugged and sat back in his chair with a scowl. “I’ve not been myself, gentlemen. I think it should be quite apparent that I was not of sound mind following the explosion. Surely there is no other excuse needed, save that.”
Lucius sat forward and made eye contact with his colleague as he spoke. “You get hit with a potion that makes you laugh, Severus. My son and Miss Granger try to help by teaching your class while you cannot and you thank them by taking away their free will as to who they want to spend their lives with?”
He growled as he clutched his cane. “They were not the ones that wronged you. Longbottom didn’t suffer any reprocussions, did he? Why did you direct your vengeance on the two who were trying to fill in for you?” he made a face, showing his disgust with his old friend. “Draco cannot be apart of any spy operations now. There is no way. Your meddling has seen to that.”
Severus looked contrite as he began to nod. But Dumbledore speaking up had both men turning their heads and staring open-mouthed at the Headmaster. “Now, don’t be fool-hardy. This whole situation may just work in our favor.”
Lucius sputtered. “You cannot mean to suggest my son still move forward on becoming a Death Eater, surely?”
Severus tilted his head and stared at Dumbledore for a moment, feeling icy terror take hold of him as the older wizard simply met their gazes and smiled. He didn’t like the old man very much anymore. But with that smile, he could almost imagine hating him as bad as he did Voldemort. The old fool was going to throw anyone in front of the train, it seemed. It was very likely Draco or Hermione was just as easily expendable as he or Lucius was.
