Harry sat in Charms class bored. He had passed noted to Draco but it still did not help to pass the time. Class was about to end but he dreaded going to Transfiguration. When the class was dismissed, Harry slowly made his way to his next class. It had been two weeks since classes had begun and Harry had stopped talking to Ron and Hermione. He had caught word of one of their latest conversations and it had made him made. He knew he had been a fool but think they were not using him but to actually act like he was their friend for so long ticked him off. He had stormed about it to Draco until he could no longer care. He was far past the problems.
Harry sat near the back of the room and watched as everyone else took their seats. Draco sat in the front by himself just as Harry sat by himself. It seemed as if it would be another boring class until some unexpected visitors arrived in the middle of the class. Hyacintha had snuck into the room and sat beside of Draco just as Auaraya sat beside of Harry, No one paid any attention to the additions to the class.
Draco’s eyes widened when he saw who sat beside of him. He could not believe Hyacintha would risk being seen in the room. She smirked at him as she watched the lesson as if she was learning herself. Draco looked back t Harry and noticed Auaraya sitting beside of him.
McGonagall turned back to the class to show them another spell. She frowned when she noticed how full the class looked. She was taken for a surprise when she saw Draco’s partner. She did not remember seeing the girl before and headed to their table. No student showed up late for her class and got away with it.
“Miss, I do not seem to know your name.” McGonagall said.
“That is because I never gave it to you.” Hyacintha smirked.
“Point taken. Can you demonstrate for the class this transfiguration? Turn your mouse into a teapot.” McGonagall asked. Draco held his breath as Hyacintha answered.
“I seemed to have forgotten my wand.” Hyacintha said sounding like she truly had forgotten it. McGonagall frowned at her unprepared student.
“Very well, you can just write an essay on the importance of being prepared for class.” She said and headed to the next student. She did not see the smug look on Hyacintha as she continued viewing the progress of the class. Hyacintha watched as Draco transfigured a mouse into a teapot.
McGonagall was surprised yet again when she noticed yet another student sitting beside of Harry. “And where is your wand?” she asked.
“I seemed to have misplaced it.” Auaraya replied.
“Very well, you can also write an essay on being prepared.” McGonagall turned to the next pair carefully helping the group. Auaraya turned her attention to Hyacintha as Hyacintha caught her eye. Auaraya chuckled when she noticed the look in her friends’ eye.
“What is she going to do?” Harry said seeing where Auaraya was looking.
“You will see.” Auaraya smirked.
Harry was about to ask her another question when he heard a noise from the front of the classroom. Everyone’s attention was drawn to the chalkboard as it began to shake. They all watched in amazement as the board began to walk forward bending and twisting into a different form. As it neared the desk, it began to take a shape. The shape continued to move to stand in front of the desk. It then shaped into a stick shape figure of a person and sat on the desk. Everyone thought it was through until the figure began to shrink until it was nothing more than an apple sitting on the desk. McGonagall started back to the desk in wonder at the display of magic. She was just about to reach for the apple when it began to shake and rise into the air. Everyone watched as the apple began to spin.
Auaraya caught on to what her friend was doing and sent her helping hand. The apple was pushed right under the light. It slowly began to transfigure yet again. The apple slowly began to turn as it attached itself to the light. It transformed into a disco ball and began to bounce the light around the room. Everyone stared in awe at the display. What no one noticed was as the light hit each person, it gave off a confidence to each student. As the awe fell away, the students returned to their assignment.
McGonagall wanted to search for which student was able to use magic in such a way. When no answers came forth, she continued to help where it was needed. Draco smirked at Hyacintha as he began to do his transfiguration. Hyacintha stopped him and simply touched the mouse. Draco’s mouth dropped open as Hyacintha did a perfect transfiguration with just a touch. She proceeded to transfigure different items on the desk until there was a perfect tea set. She smirked and then looked back at her friend. Auaraya caught her looked and smiled.
Auaraya could sometimes forget about all the problems they had been through when her friend was having fun. As much as Hyacintha hated to be in the school, she felt that she had much to learn. Auaraya knew that she was the strongest in any elemental power their kind could perform but Hyacintha had a power that she tried to deny. In a way, she was keeping herself from reaching her full potential. Every since they had met the Dark Lord, Auaraya knew there was much more that Hyacintha could learn but only from those she hated the most. She was glade her friend was not cringing at the thought of being in the same room as the wizards and to begin to develop an interest in their practices of magic. They had both been taught that there were different types of magic and how to tell one from the other. Ever since then, they knew about Hyacintha’s mixed heritage and the potential it would lead her to. However, Marquis’s hatred and mistrust was passed onto his daughter.
Auaraya was brought out of her thoughts with a tap on her shoulder. She shook her head before looking to Harry. She had felt a connection with Harry the moment she met his gaze. There was something about him that drew her to him. She knew what it could be but did not want to believe it. She smiled at him willing him to ask her the question he had on his mind.
“Why did you two show up?” Harry asked.
“Because we were bored. Besides, she is having so much fun.” Auaraya answered as she signaled to Hyacintha. The class would be letting out in a matter of minutes and they needed to get out unseen before that happened. “Now if you will excuse me, we need to be going.” Auaraya said as she slipped out before Harry could ask another question.
Harry did not see the girls in his history lesson, nor did her see them at lunch. It was as if they went back into hiding. However, he did not expect to see them slip into his Defense class. He noticed the two as they sat in the back of the room. It was just a review on the classes they had previously. However, the girls made it interesting when the objects around the room began to give lectures over top the professor. Eventually, everyone began to ignore the professor and began to listen to the objects. What no one realized was that the objects were designed to enchant the listener for a good hour or so. Needless to say, the class did not mind missing the lecture at all. Harry thought it was a bit of a letdown after the powerful display of magic in transfiguration. He figured the girls were just more interested in what the objects were rather than the topic of choice in the class.
The day got really heated up when Harry saw the two girls sneak into the library unseen and headed into the restricted area. He was about to follow them but was stopped by Draco. Draco had him follow to a secluded corner of the library.
“Do not follow them in there. We do not need to get caught. Now has Auaraya said anything to you as to why they were sneaking into the classes?” Draco said as they sat down at a table nearby.
“She said they were bored.” Harry replied.
“Uncle Sev has his hands full with those two. They can get into more trouble than you and your friends did.”
“So how did you meet them?”
“I met them over the summer. Uncle Sev brought them to the manor.”
“When I was ease dropping, I heard one say that they did not trust any wizard kind. Why would that be?”
“That is not for me to say. I do know when I first met them; Hyacintha tried everything possible to leave. The only thing that kept her there was Auaraya reminding her that it was for her protection. “
“Protection from what?”
“I do not know. Her father had a quest come over and she attacked. Shortly after that, they arrived to the manor.”
“Do you care for them? Do you feel a connection to them?”
“Yes I guess I do. I look after them as if they were my siblings. We spent time together over the summer and developed a friendship. Where are you going with this?”
“Every time I look at Auaraya, I feel this certain connection to her.”
“Have you finished the book?”
“What does that have to do with anything?”
“Trust me when I say it holds the answers you are looking for.”
“I don’t see how. It is all about vampires.”
“It is?” Draco smirked and raised an eyebrow at Harry.
“Look we better go before we are late for potions.” Harry said as he stood up to leave. Draco didn’t say anything, he just followed behind Harry. They were not going to be late but early. In fact they were among the first to arrive. Many did not want to be partnered up while others began to learn from each other. Harry and Draco had figured out a system in which to work. Draco would work on the potion while Harry would keep the pages open to save their potion if anything happened. It was a system Draco had come up with first day. Harry agreed mainly because he did not want to fail the class anymore. He would watch Draco and learn what he had been doing wrong before.
They entered the class and took their seats. It wasn’t long before the rest of the class showed up. Right as soon as the class started, Snape walked in quickly casting the potion they were to do on the board. They were t look up the potion themselves and work from there. Once Draco found the potion, Harry quickly got what they needed together. Snape walked around the room dictating to other partners before sitting behind his desk and grading papers.
As Draco and Harry got started on their potion, they were joined by two more people. Harry did a double take as he noticed Hyacintha sitting next to Draco. He tapped Draco and pointed beside of him. Draco’s mouth fell open when he saw Auaraya beside of Harry, he quickly looked to where Harry had pointed and was greeted by Hyacintha. She just indicated for them to be quiet and continue on.
Harry and Draco just glanced nervously at each other before continuing. Auaraya and Hyacintha just watched them working occasionally questioning something they were doing.
“What are you doing that for?” Hyacintha asked.
“We need to stir it clockwise.”
“What would happen if you added something else to it?” Auaraya asked not liking the smell of the potion.
“It would explode.” Harry replied.
“Well it smells terrible.” Hyacintha said.
“I don’t smell anything yet. It is supposed to have a pleasant smell when it is finished.” Draco said.
“Then why did you add that stone thing in there. It is what is making it smell so bad.” Auaraya said. The boys quickly looked to both girls and saw that their mouth and nose were covered and they seemed to be getting paler than usual.
“We didn’t add nothing but what we were suppose to.” Draco quickly said.
“Doesn’t look like it.” Hyacintha said as she moved her hand to show that she was bleeding from her nose and mouth. Auaraya was the same way. Harry quickly began to look for a counter measure that would neutralize whatever had been added. Draco spotted someone darting away with red hair. His eyes narrowed. Their potion began to smoke and shake. They were out of time.
“Quickly, cast a protection shield around the potion before it goes all over the place.” Draco said as he tried to find his wand. Harry quickly cast the charm but it was not holding. Snape had spotted the trouble and hoped the boys could stop it by themselves. His eyes widened when he saw the girls. He quickly went to the table to see the problem.
“Everyone quickly gather your things and head back to the door, now!” Snape said when he realized just how dangerous the situation was getting. He quickly grabbed the girls had pushed them toward the front of the class, closer to a pair of bookshelves. Harry and Draco were the last to join the class, just as their potion exploded. It did not stop with just theirs, as the flam hit another cauldron, the unfinished potion would explode. It was a chain reaction.
“Quickly everyone get out!” Snape said. He kept the girls behind him as he watched the class leave. He wanted to make sure the class would be safe before he left. Harry tried to go back to the girls not wanting to leave them behind but a fire broke out. He watched as Snape made sure his supply closet was fire proofed before trying to leave with the girls. The fire spread rapidly separating Snape from the class.
“We have to help them.” Harry said as he tried to find a way past the fire.
“No. They will be alright. Trust me.” Draco said pulling on Harry’s arm as he dragged him out the door.
Snape watched as Draco and Harry were the last out before the doors closed. He quickly pushed the two coughing girls close to the corner where he had a hidden door to his rooms. He quickly pushed them into the dark room before following after them. Once he shut the door, the room became completely dark.
“Where are we?” Hyacintha asked.
“In a room that I am now thankful for adding on to. There should be a door nearby.” Snape replied.
“Yea, it leads to the now blazing classroom.” Auaraya replied sarcastically.
“No, the door leads to my study in my chambers. It was built for an easy escape like the fire. How did the potion go wrong and what were you two doing in there?” Snape asked finding the door.
“You would not let us do any of the upper level potions. We wanted to see them. We were not going to do anything, just watch.” Hyacintha said.
“I saw you asking questions. Now help me find the door, you two can see better than me.” Snape said. As they found their way, Snape finally found the door. Just before he could open it, the door opened on its own. The light poured in blinding Snape for a moment.
“Well, it is a good thing that I dropped in for a visit.” Lucius said smiling at his friend.
“It would seem.” Snape replied as he allowed the girls through first.
“My word Severus, what happened to them?” Lucius asked as he noticed the girls bleeding.
“It was Draco and Harry’s potion. Something went wrong with it.” Auaraya said as she cleaned herself off.
“Well, we have to be more careful. There is much at stake and you have been given a huge responsibility.” Lucius said eyeing Hyacintha.
“Why did you come today?” Snape asked.
“I have a message from Marquis.” At the mention of her father’s name, she forgot about the mystery with the potion and focused on the topic.
“Has my father finally sent for me?” Hyacintha asked joining the small group.
“In a way. Severus, he sent a letter for you.” Lucius said as he handed the letter over. Snape sat down in a chair and began to read the letter. Just as he finished, his chamber doors burst opened and in ran Draco and Harry. Both boys were out f breathe.
“Glade you are alright.” Harry said.
“Yea, we wouldn’t be able to go to another class without you two sneaking in and causing trouble.” Draco smirked.
“Please tell me that you two did not interrupt classes today?” Snape asked.
“Yes. We made it more interesting.” Hyacintha said.
“Well, I can make sure you don’t bother the classes again. Hyacintha, your father wants you back. However, he found out I had you here and wants me to be there to defend myself.” Snape replied.
“Well, this has turned out to be an interesting day after all.” Lucius smirked looking at the group.
