MNK: Hey! Sorry it’s taken so long to get this published. I’ve been busy with school projects since the beginning of this term. (Especially the Art App. Journal---ARRG!) This short chapter is a little insight into the dark mind of Severus Snape. It is also a songfic, using the lyrics to one of Linka’s favorite Linkin Park songs...“In The End.” Sorry, but it’s kinda short, like most songfics.
I cannot tell a lie, Father. I do not own Harry Potter.
Chapter 6: Severus’ Soliloquy
Severus stormed down to his dungeon rooms, slamming the heavy wooden door behind him. He paced before the fire, fists clenched so tightly had his fingernails been any longer, they’d have drawn blood. He’d just come down from dinner with the rest of the school, looking forward to seeing his black and violet haired angel again. He had not, however, expected to see her smiling again. Nor had he expected to see Sirius Black with an arm around her waist. He hadn’t even touched his food...he just stormed out of the hall, leaving Iris in tears.
(It starts with)
One thing
I don’t know why it doesn’t even matter how hard you try...
Keep that in mind
I designed this rhyme to explain in due time all I know.
It had been so long since he was in school...yet nothing had really changed. Iris was still in love with Sirius, Remus was still in love with Peridot, and he was once again, left out. Come to think of it, one thing HAD changed...HIM. He was no longer the quiet, lonely outcast that everyone picked on. Now he was the not-so-quiet snarky Potions Master who took his hatred for his classmates out on their children. What a change.
Time is a valuable thing...
Watch it fly by as the pendulum swings.
Watch it count down to the end of the day.
The clock ticks life away...
It’s so unreal.
Then again, what had he really expected? He snarled to himself, whipping around and pacing even more furiously than before. He’d helped come up with the potions that cured victims of the Cruciatus curse, developed a potion that if taken before the battle, could save the life of a victim of Avada Kadavra, and even taught that miserable Potter and his gang to resist the Imperius curse. Even so, Sirius Black was everything a young woman could want...Muscular, handsome, while he was no genius, he was a brilliant wizard, and his record had been cleared right after Peter Pettigrew was caught. Severus, however, had been a Death Eater. The dark mark had vanished with the Dark Lord’s demise, but the scars it left on his soul would remain till his death.
Didn’t look out below...
Watch the time go right out the window, trying to hold on, but I didn’t even know
I wasted it all just to watch you go.
He rigidly threw himself into a chair, gripping his head as though it ached. And it did. He’d kept all his pain, all his sorrow, all his loneliness, all his emotions hidden for years. All he ever let show were anger and hatred, with the occasional arrogant smirk now and then. He’d hidden all his pain, though it ate him alive from the inside out, and to what did it amount? Nothing.
I kept everything inside and even though I tried, it all fell apart.
What it meant to me will eventually be a memory of a time when
I tried so hard, and got so far,
But in the end, it doesn’t even matter.
I had to fall, to lose it all,
But in the end, it doesn’t even matter.
He remembered vividly how Iris was only with him when she wasn’t with Sirius, and how the arrogant mutt had done his damndest to keep her from seeing him. Even when she was with him, he could tell that she was worried that Sirius would walk in on them, even if they were just sitting side by side by the lake. He knew she was fond of him, but he had never seen Love in her eyes when she looked at him. Yes, Iris had been kind to him, and perhaps even fond of him, but she’d never LOVED him.
One thing
I don’t know why it doesn’t even matter how hard you try.
Keep that in mind.
I desiged this rhyme to remind myself how I tried so hard
In spite of the way you were mocking me,
Acting like I was part of your property.
Remembering all the times you fought with me,
I’m surprised it got so far.
So much had changed, and so little, since he’d met Iris. He was a completely different person now. He remembered all too well their day of parting all those years ago. She’d told him that during the last term, Sirius had asked her to be his girlfriend, with the stipulation that they could both have outside relationships. She told him that she wanted to be with both of them. In a fit of jealousy, he’d thrust her from him, and forced his face to remain one of malice as she fled to her room sobbing, when inside, his heart was breaking.
Things aren’t the way they were before.
You wouldn’t even recognize me anymore.
Not that you knew me back then, but it all comes back to me
In the end
You kept everything inside, and even though I tried, it all fell apart.
What it meant to me will eventually be a memory of a time when
What it meant to me will eventually be a memory of a time when
I tried so hard, and got so far,
But in the end, it doesn’t even matter.
I had to fall, to lose it all,
But in the end, it doesn’t even matter.
He’d trusted her with his heart, he realized as he stared heatedly into the flames. He’d trusted her with his soul. And what had she given him back? Affection. Not Love. Affection. He snarled, throwing himself to his feet again. She’d been fond of him, treating him like he mattered, that he was important to her, and then she decided that she only loved him as a brother, that she loved Sirius as a man.
I’ve put my trust in you,
Pushed as far as I can go...
For all this, there’s only one thing you should know.
I’ve put my trust in you,
Pushed as far as I can go...
For all this, there’s only one thing you should know.
Severus headed straight for the decanter of Fire Whiskey on his shelf, pouring himself a large glass. He had time before he had to do night hall duty. Why not spend it in a drunken stupor. At least he could forget those heartbroken violet eyes.
I tried so hard, and got so far,
But in the end, it doesn’t even matter.
I had to fall, to lose it all,
But in the end, it doesn’t even matter.
