  • “No, no absolutely not! What the hell is he doing here?” Sirius wasn’t calm at all, of course. It was obvious though that he wasn’t the only one wondering that.

“Simple, Black,” Severus began in a sneering tone.

“Sev, don’t. You’ll only make this more difficult,” Hermione spoke up. Severus huffed, but did as he was asked. Instead, he sat on the couch in Harry’s spot. “Thank you. Sirius, we told you there would be two of our professors coming, did you really think it would be any of the others?” She asked.

“Besides, Sev and Minerva have been helping both of us the past year. Hermione in secret, but Dumbledore wanted me trained in some things that they were able to teach me and then more that he wasn’t told about. Like wandless and wordless magic, or animagi. Yes, I know you wanted to teach me, but Minerva was closer and it was easier for her to get to me,” Harry held up his hands to placate his godfather. “If it helps any, neither one of us has registered,” He added.

That brought a small smile to Sirius’ face. “Alright, I’ll behave,” He sighed.

Noticing the serious lack of chairs, now that Minerva and Harry had joined Severus on the couch, Hermione sighed, and sat cross-legged in mid air. “What?” She asked to the looks she was getting. “Sev taught me how,” She shrugged. The Potions Master actually smiled at that.

“Alright, don’t EVER do that again! That was frightening,” Bill insisted, pointing to Severus. “You should not smile, it’s just not right.”

Severus’ smile turned into a full grin at that. “Severus, behave,” Minerva used her commanding tone as she spoke and everyone in the room sat a tiny bit straighter, though she wasn’t speaking to them.

“Harry, I’m not too sure about this. Dumbledore….”

“Can only control us if we allow it, Mr. Weasley,” Minerva cut Charlie off.

“I don’t care, Minerva. I don’t like this at all,” Sirius was glaring at Severus.

“Oh grow up! And I do mean both of you. You’re not immature teenagers anymore, last I knew. I had honestly thought that the two of you were better than this petty rivalry shit. Either leave the past where it belongs, or don’t even look at each other,” Everyone looked at Hermione in silence for a moment.

“Did you really just say ‘shit’?” Seamus asked.

That broke the tension that had begun when Severus and Minerva had walked in as everyone started laughing. “Yes, Shay, I did,” Hermione said, calming down.

“Okay, just thought I’d check,” He smiled.

“So, what did you guys call us for and where exactly are Ron and Ginny?” Padma asked.

“Ron and Ginny are with Dumbledore right now,” Harry answered the second question. “And I called you because a few days ago I decided I was done being a pawn and would rather choose my own life, thank you very much, and Dumbledore’s none too happy with me for that. Neither Ron nor Ginny are happy with me either. We’re pretty sure they’re going to go to the Prophet and tell them that I’ve gone Dark and have been seen with Draco. So we decided to call you all here so you could be told the truth before any of that happens,” Harry shrugged.

“Okay then. So are we changing our name then? Because Dumbledore’s Army makes no sense now,” Michael asked.

“He’s got a point,” Hermione agreed.

“We could always switch it back to Defense Association,” Cho suggested again.

“Or Dumbledore’s Adversaries,” Terry suggested. Though this brought chuckles from most everyone in the room, they ended up agreeing on it.

Still slightly wary of their professors’ presence, the group soon started catching up on what little summer had passed, including Hermione and Harry’s new looks.

“Actually, guys, I need your help figuring something out. Hermione’s got a mystery boyfriend and I want to know who he is, really bad. All I know about him is that he’s older than her and he calls her ‘Dragoste’,” Harry informed everyone.

“Well, it almost sounds Italian but I know it’s not,” Blaise mused aloud. Maybe if they figured out the language, they’d figure out the guy.

“I know I’ve heard that somewhere before. Recently too,” Bill stated. He lapsed into thought as the others continued to brainstorm around him. “Charlie!” He shouted suddenly.

“What?” Charlie whipped his head around to face his brother.

“That’s where I’ve heard that word recently. You’ve said it,” He explained.

    “You’re…?” Harry trailed off.

“Yes. She was in Romania last summer and I’m not really sure how it happened,” Charlie shrugged, walking to Hermione and wrapping her in his arms though she still sat in mid air.

Most of the DA went home that night, though promised to keep in touch with everyone. Severus and Minerva had to go back to Hogwarts as well. Only Seamus, Dean, and the Patil twins stayed.

A special edition of the Prophet was released that night and Harry wasn’t front page news. In fact, he wasn’t in the paper at all. The paper was reporting on a bridge collapse. The Westminster Bridge, the busiest in all of London, had been targeted and destroyed by Death eaters killing an unknown, though large, number of people.

Two days after the DA meeting, Harry woke to find Hermione staring listlessly out the dining room window. He looked at Charlie, Bill, Sirius, Draco, and Pansy who were sitting at the table behind her. They shrugged, just as confused as he was.

“Hermione?” Harry spoke softly, walking up behind her. As he got closer, he saw the tears coursing down her face. “Oh ‘Mione,” He pulled her into a hug and she laid her head on his shoulder.

“Remember I told you about my best friend in the muggle world, Helena?” He nodded. He remembered that Helena lived down the road from Hermione and was a year older than she was. “Well, after her parents disowned her for getting pregnant so young, she moved in with mine. She even got married to the baby’s father, Craig. They named her Ciara and made me her godmother,” She was gently sobbing as she spoke so Harry kept rubbing small circles on her back. “They decided to go to the cinema the other night and left Ciara with a baby sitter. She’s about a year and a half now. They were on the Westminster Bridge, Harry,” She started sobbing full out and felt Charlie come up behind her and wrap his arms around her too.

“Oh ‘Mione, I’m so sorry,” Harry whispered to her.

“They finally identified their bodies today. They called to tell me. I have to go get Ciara in a couple hours and I don’t know what I’m going to do. I don’t think I can raise a baby,” She lifted her head as she spoke.

“We’ll be here to help you, Dragoste. You know that,” Charlie stated. “Anything you need help with, just ask.” Finally, Harry and Charlie released her and she went back to staring out the window.

“Dumbledore will let me take her with me, right?” She questioned quietly after a few silent minutes.

“Perhaps. If not, Hermione, Fleur and I will take care of her and move to Hogsmeade so you can see her easily.”

    “Thank you, Bill,” She whispered.

As the others woke up and came downstairs, Harry or Charlie told them what had happened and why Hermione was staring out the window the way she was. Each person would then hug her and tell her they were sorry for her loss.

“Harry, can I borrow Hedwig, please? And some parchment and ink?” Hermione asked softly an hour later.

“Sure, ‘Mione; I’ll be right back,” He left then to get what she needed. Hermione sat at the table, and when Harry came back with Hedwig on his shoulder, wrote a letter to Professor Dumbledore.

    Headmaster Dumbledore,
I realize that this is very short notice but I would very much like a meeting with you this evening. 5:30 pm, if that is alright with you.
    Thank you,
    Hermione J. Granger

She mailed the short letter to Dumbledore using Hedwig. “I’ll be upstairs if anyone needs me,” She left the room and went to her own room. Realizing that she was still in her pajamas, she changed into a school uniform skirt and button down white blouse. She was going to have to go to a social services group home to pick up Ciara and it would be better if she wasn’t wearing the new clothes she’d bought. She grabbed her tongue ring case and placed the tongue ring in it then into her jacket pocket.

“Hello, Dragoste. How are you feeling?” Charlie entered the room.

Hermione was silent a moment. “Numb, I guess,” She answered honestly. Charlie walked up behind her, turned her around, and pulled her into his arms. “I have to go get Ciara now,” She spoke after a long while of standing there in Charlie’s arms.

“Do you want me to go with you, Dragoste?”

“No, my love; I’ll be alright, I think. If I need you, I’ll call for you, promise.”

“I’ll be here when you get home,” He smiled slightly at her.

Hermione left the grounds of Dunluce Castle and apparated to an alley in London a few blocks from the child services building where Ciara was.

“Hello, I’m looking for my goddaughter, Ciara Achilles,” Hermione approached the woman sitting behind the desk. “My name is Hermione Granger, I was told she was here,” She added.

“I am sorry for your loss Miss Granger. This way,” The woman behind the desk seemed to know why she was there for Ciara. “This is Miss Minchin’s office. She is expecting you,” With that, the front desk woman left.

“Miss Minchin? My name is Hermione Granger,” Hermione opened the office door. “I was told you were expecting me?”

“Yes, Miss Granger. You are here to pick up young Ciara Achilles, are you not?”

    “I am. Is she alright?”

“I won’t lie to you, Miss Granger, she has been fussing quite a bit since she arrived here. I assume this is because she is in an unfamiliar location. There is just some paper work you must sign and then you are free to take her home with you,” She was handed a small stack of papers. “Now, I understand you go to a boarding school?”

“Yes. I have a meeting with the Headmaster later this afternoon to talk about whether he will allow me to bring Ciara. If not, a very good friend of mine and his wife live in the town nearby and have already agreed to take her in if that’s the case.”

“You seem to have thought of everything, Miss Granger. I commend you for that, not all girls your age do.”

“Thank you Miss Minchin,” Hermione finished signing the papers and slid them across the desk to the older woman. “If that is everything, may I get my goddaughter now?”

“Of course, this way,” Hermione was led to a room that held all of the younger children. It looked like a playroom to her. “Catherine, where is Ciara Achilles?”

“She’s on the other side of the room, Miss Minchin. She doesn’t like to play with the other children,” The younger woman answered.

“That’s odd. Normally she loves being around other kids,” Hermione mused aloud.

“Perhaps it’s the lack of a familiar face,” Miss Minchin responded. Ciara was indeed on the other side of the room, clutching the teddy bear Hermione had given her for her last birthday.

    “Cece!” Hermione called to her.

“Mia?” Ciara couldn’t say Hermione or even ‘Mione yet so she called her Mia. Not that she could say much anyway.

“Yeah, Cece, it’s me,” Hermione scooped the little girl into her arms and held her tightly. “Come on, baby girl, it’s time to go. Thank you, Miss Minchin,” Hermione smiled at the woman and left the group home. Before leaving London, Hermione bought some baby clothes, diapers, and other things she needed for Ciara.

She walked into the alley beside the baby store and, holding tightly to Ciara with the shrunken bags in her pockets, apparated back to Dunluce Castle. Ciara looked in wonder around her.

“It’s pretty, huh Cece?” The little girl nodded, still staring around the castle grounds.

“Hermione, this came while you were gone and we changed the room beside yours into a nursery for Ciara and created a door between the two rooms,” Harry met her at the doorway.

    “Thanks so much, Harry.”

“Of course. Everyone else is waiting, though somewhat impatiently, in the courtyard for you to get back.”

“You mean they’ve been waiting to meet Ciara,” Hermione smiled. “Come on, Cece,” Hermione set her down and held her hand as they walked out into the courtyard.

A/N: Thanks to HPamethyst13 for the DA rename suggestion, firstly. Second, yes I know this one didn’t have much in it that had anything to do with Harry and Draco but this part just kinda came to me a couple nights ago, and I had to write it. I may have the next chapter of Three’s Company out tomorrow or so, but I’m not sure. And I’m very sorry that everyone’s reactions weren’t the greatest to Severus and Minerva. I was more focused on Ciara and Hermione.
