He dropped Divination and Muggle Studies from his classes at the beginning of the year when he was hired, just as he had told Pansy. His career had no need of them, as it did with Transfiguration and Charms. He even needed Herbology to gain the knowledge or woods and bristles that came from trees and such. He used the extra periods to work on broom designs. He sent off another design and saw it pay off immediately. His company was proud of his work and praised his latest design. He could tell they were anxious for him to start at full capacity.
He also began looking at properties in the Daily Prophet. He had wanted the countryside somewhere in Scotland, but had been unable to find a house near a lake or a sea, however in mid May he found a house available on the outskirts of Hogmeade.
He took Pansy with him to look at it during one of the Hogsmeade trips and it was perfect. It was close enough to the village but far enough away that they would have privacy which Pansy expressed an interest for and Ron would have his much needed air space. It had more space than they thought. A full three bedrooms, but to Ron the location was what made it perfect.
The current owner was an elderly man, who used to own it with his wife until she had passed some time ago. The upkeep was getting too tiring for him. He seemed overjoyed at Ron’s interest. He had confessed that he had yet to sell because he wanted to sell it to someone who would love it as much as he and his wife did. Ron and Pansy seemed perfect for the house and he was willing to work on the price.
They had lunch with him while discussing details. The sale would be final the first week of June. About two weeks before they finished school. They made arrangements for the paperwork to be settled by owl.
Pansy and Ron left for the castle in a state of euphoria. Plans were coming together perfectly.
Ron sent in his latest design and it had proven a huge success, his account showing the results. Everything would be ready when he graduated. Even exams proved less of a challenge then he anticipated. Hermione had told him that his pride with the way his life was going and his eagerness made his confidence come out.
He knew Pansy’s parents would be difficult, and he wanted a place for her to go to if she was thrown out. It seemed to be a genuine fear with her. He wanted to secure a home for her in case she needed a place to go.
With the house now his in every way and his promise to Pansy that he had a home for her, Ron used his last day at Hogwarts for something special. A quick word with the Headmaster and he made his way to the certain painting of fruit.
With a tickle of the pear, the handle appeared and he entered the kitchens. Several house elves appeared but Ron was looking for one in particular.
“Dobby.” The elf rushed forward.
“Harry Potters Weezy!” Ron shook his head with a smile. Dobby never got over calling him that.
“I was wondering if I could ask you something?” Dobby nodded. “I’m getting married soon after I graduate and I would love to have a house elf come live with us. The headmaster said that all the elves here are able to bond with one family if they want.” Dobby nodded. “Do you know of any elves here that wish to serve a family rather than the school.’ Dobby thought for a moment then his eyes lit up.
“Yes, yes, Misty wishes for a family to care for.”
“Can I speak with her?” Dobby came back a few moments later with another elf. She looked very young compared to Dobby and the ancient looking Kreacher. Ron almost wanted to say a child but he wasn’t sure about how house elves aged. He had heard from Hermione once that on average it was 200 or so years, but he had no idea how she had found that bit of information. Going on that scale though, he would place her at about 35-ish.
“Hello, my name is Ron.” He kneeled down.
“I is Misty.” Her voice was high pitched.
“I am getting married soon, I’d like to have a house elf help out me and my wife. Dobby tells me you’d rather serve one family then be here at the school.”
“Yes, sir, Misty would much rather serve a family.” She took a step closer. “There is too many at the school.”
“Well it will just be me and my wife for some time, children is something we have decided to wait on.”
“Misty will take good care of Sir and his wife.” She looked at him with earnest.
“Are you willing to take clothes from the headmaster?” She nodded. “Would you rather bond with me and my wife or would you like to be paid?” She jumped back as if struck.
“Paid?” She looked on the verge of tears.
“Dobby gets paid from the Headmaster, and he’s free, I didn’t know if you wished for the same.” Her lower lip trembled. “Ok ok, I would love it if you bonded, but I am saying here and now that anytime you want to be paid or freed, you have only to ask. Do you understand?” The lip still trembled but she nodded. “Then go to the Headmaster and tell him you agreed, he will give you clothes, then meet me in my dorm room and I’ll let you know where to go.”
He left the kitchens and went to his room. His trunk was packed and ready to go. He got out the parchments with the address of his home and the key.
Misty popped in as he got everything together. She was no longer wearing the Hogwart’s logo on the doily she was usually clad in. It had a large W on it and from the look on her face, she was proud to wear it. He gave her the papers and showed her the address, telling her to begin unpacking his belongings and start setting the house in order. She seemed excited that no one had lived in it for years and she had quite a task ahead of her. He mentioned the furniture may be replaced but for now everything inside would stay. Hopping onto the trunk, parchment and keys in hand, she winked out, taking everything with her.
Later that night when she returned, he introduced her to Pansy. She couldn’t have been happier.
“I’m not very good in the kitchen, so you will no doubt be a great help to me won’t you Misty.” She said.
“Yes Miss, Misty will help.” Taking Pansy’s trunk to the house, Misty set off the finish organizing the house for her new family.
Ron was glad. Everything was set. His house was bought and paid for. He was already half moved in. He had a wonderful little elf to help his soon to be wife. He was getting married soon.
Now if he could only survive telling his mother.
