Chapter Seven: Difference of Opinion
Carlisle watched over the healing bone excitedly, having never seen Magical Healing in action before. Jacob, refusing to allow the Vampires to touch his Rabbit, had fetched Harry's trunk grudgingly after Harry's arm snapped the second time. Now the family was happily perusing his diverse book collection while Carlisle kept an eye on his mending bones and looked through a book on Healing Potions. Esme and Rosalie (after getting shouted at by her entire family) were practically devouring the books Harry had on Vampire anatomy. Edward was on his phone because Bella had called again, crying that she'd inconvenienced his family so could he just apologize for her? Emmett was looking through the Quidditch books, wondering if he would ever be able to fly a broom. Alice was reading Harry's journal (she'd looked to the future to see if Harry would ever tell her the password). Jasper and Billy were looking through stacks and stacks of battle plans Harry and his team had put together during the war; the ideas in there were impressive. Jacob, as he'd been all along, was glaring at the floor and sulking.
"It's completely healed!
Harry gave the young looking doctor a smile at the awe in the man's voice, bending his arm this way and that at the man's instruction. Rosalie looked up, apology clear in her eyes. Harry gave a small smile of acknowledgment, not forcing the proud woman to verbalize something that clearly made her uncomfortable. She wasn't used to being around humans, and he'd had worse happen with Vampires who forgot he wasn't indestructible. Not a big deal in his mind.
Eventually the group moved back to the table, where the meal had gone cold. With a quick wave of his wand everything was perfect again and the group settled into the delightful meal. Rosalie and Esme made sure to take seconds, trying to jump-start their bodies as quickly as possible. Afterward the group moved back to the living room, where the conversation turned serious.
Everyone seemed uncomfortable at first, so Jasper started by explaining about Bella. He was complimentary, but it was clear to Harry that the Vampire didn't hold a very good opinion of the human girl. Jasper then explained about Edward's trip to the Volturi; he didn't go into details about why Edward felt the need to be killed, he just stated it as a fact and moved on from there. Harry accepted it at face value and listened intently as the Vampire went on to explain the most recent battle and Jane's involvement. It took several hours, everyone interjecting something, before Harry had a good grasp on the situation. Harry sat in silent contemplation after everyone was finished before deciding on a course of action.
"If we stagger the arrivals, I can have everyone here within a few weeks. The nomads can make sure to be in the timezone, the Wizards need to be within four hours travel or so in order for Portkeys to be nearly instantaneous, and I'd like my core advisers to be as close as possible. Intel and R&D can spread out, mobiles can keep us in contact plus we use email. The younger kids that fought in this last battle can help, but I'd honestly rather they finish their education."
And thus a plan of action was born. Harry promised to send out the first round of communication that evening and he left with the Blacks for La Push.

Billy was used to being the first person awake in his household. Jacob could sleep through a tornado, and often refused to get out of bed without threats of a vehicular nature. He knew that his son's friends were the same way. Therefore it was surprising to the father when he awoke to the scent of breakfast cooking; this was also surprising because breakfast in their house mainly consisted of sugar coated crunchy bits and marshmallows floating in milk.
Billy was nearly positive that the bacon he could smell hadn't been in the house when he fell asleep.
Billy maneuvered himself into his wheelchair and traveled toward the kitchen to find his young guest moving from the counter to the stove and back again, humming tunelessly to himself. The teen was dressed, shoulder length hair secured with something white that Billy assumed was like the hair ties his daughters had always used-he preferred the puffy fabric covered ones himself. While Billy was trying to decide on an appropriate greeting, Harry moved to the coffee maker and poured a generous helping into Billy's favorite oversize mug. The teen turned, setting it on the kitchen table with a smile.
"Good morning, Billy. Breakfast is nearly ready if you're hungry."
Billy nodded, moving toward the table and parking in his normal spot. He had questions but coffee was clearly the priority here, and Harry had been nice enough to serve it to him-he'd even placed it in Billy's normal spot. Not like it's difficult to figure out, I sit in the only spot that doesn't have a chair at it.
"Toast?"
Billy nodded again, mumbling something that could have been a yes if you tilted your head and squinted. Harry clearly understood, popping bread into the toaster and depressing the mechanism. About a quarter of the way through Billy's coffee a plate appeared before him. Blinking rapidly, the man stared at it for a moment before picking up his fork. He still had questions, but damn if he was going to let food that smelled this good go to waste.
**
It was when Billy was getting ready to make lunch that he remembered his questions.
"Harry, where did that food come from this morning?"
Harry looked up from the Calculus book he was studying and blinked several times before the question registered.
"I walked to the grocers I saw on the way here. I wasn't sure what you and Jacob liked, so I just got basics to start with. I figured I'd find out your preferences and go back later."
Billy stared at the boy for several moments before asking the next obvious question.
"Where did you get the money for it? If I'd have known you were going I'd have left some on the table for you."
Harry shrugged, clearly uncomfortable.
"Money is the least of my concerns, Billy. I'm...well off. I actually wanted to talk to you about that, but I'd need to explain a few things first."
Billy nodded, settling into his wheelchair comfortably. Jacob still hadn't come out of his room, so this was a private conversation.
"In the Magical Sectors of the UK, things are very...strict in some ways. One of those ways is Family money. Things are less strict in the Muggle Sectors, and I'm told that in the States some of the same things I take for granted may actually be considered offensive."
Billy nodded his understanding, letting the boy take this at his own pace. He was curious, but had a feeling he knew where this was going.
"In my world, if you inherit Family money or the title of Head of Family, you provide for all members of that bloodline so long as it is needed and within your means. For example, one of my schoolmates is part of one of the lines I Head. When he father was arrested and his mother was killed, his financial requirements fell to me. His cousin is self sufficient and did not require my assistance, but she also wasn't living up to the family standards. She was doing very well for herself and didn't need any help, but Family Honor dictated that I provide the means to bring her financial standing up to where Society dictated it should be."
Billy nodded again, intrigued into this glimpse of a world he'd never really known anything about.
"In the Muggle Sectors, I would have helped the schoolmate but not the cousin."
Billy nodded again; that made sense to him, because the cousin was self sufficient. She didn't really need help.
"I've been told that to offer financial assistance here would be seen as pity, or some sort of charitable donation. That is not my intent. Therefore I had simply decided to buy things whenever I could get away with it and I was going to find a way to let you know that if you wanted anything I will gladly get it for you. Not out of charity or pity or obligation, but because we are family and Wizards take family very seriously."
Billy laughed.
"Well I can't think of anything we need, and I appreciate you taking the time to think this out first. If you really want to buy groceries and things I won't fight you, and I promise to let you know if anything comes up that I need help with. Just don't let Jake take advantage of your generosity, that boy with bankrupt you for car parts."
Harry laughed as well, but his reply caught Billy's interest; he didn't ask for clarification, but he was really curious.
"I could buy him two of every car on the planet and it wouldn't make a dent, Billy."
