Chapter Seven
Hermione woke to the smell of coffee and a warm palm cupping her face. Opening her eyes, she looked up at Severus who was watching her intently.
“Good morning.” It sounded like a bad muffled recording through a tunnel to her without her hearing aid, thus making it impossible for her to make out any word. “Coffee or tea?”
“I could use a shower first,” she murmured, sitting up and kissing his lips lightly. “Good morning.” Reaching up she traced his brow, as she asked, “Can I use yours?”
“Of course,” he replied and watched as she strolled over to the bathroom, enjoying the view of her backside as she did so.
No sooner had the door to the bathroom closed, Draco came into the bedroom.
“Have you seen Granger this morning?” he asked him. “She hasn’t shown her face and father is now convinced that she left after yesterday’s argument.”
“Yes, Draco, as a matter of fact I have seen her,” he told his godson. “And no she hasn’t left, despite being fully within her rights to do so. Your father has been refusing to cooperate as he said he would.”
“I know,” he said sourly. “I’ve tried everything to convince him that it would be in his best interest to just go along with whatever it is she’s recommending.” He shook his head no. “I haven’t had a bit of luck even trying to get him to bathe regularly let alone that.”
“Perhaps Hermione is correct in her estimation of what we need to help your father do,” Severus murmured. “He hasn’t emotionally gone through all his grieving—Merlin, I don’t even think he’s started!”
“Malfoys don’t grieve,” Draco said tightly. “We accept and move on.”
Severus only snorted at this. Going over to the table, he poured himself another coffee. As he did so, he saw the hearing aid on the floor next to his foot along with Hermione’s shirt and bra. Setting the coffee down, he scooped them all up along with her skirt and went over to the bathroom. After letting her know that they were there for her, he stepped back out only to discover Draco watching him suspiciously.
“Granger’s in your shower?”
“Yes,” he answered, going over to retrieve his coffee.
“After you told me…”
“Really, Draco,” he drawled. “If you think I didn’t have plans for the witch even back then…” he let it hang there even as Draco cursed to himself as he walked out of the room.
A few seconds later, hearing aid in place, Hermione said, “Plans for me, hmm?” She went over to the coffee and served herself. “Pardon me for pointing this out, but who is to say that your plans would have worked?” She took a sip of her coffee and let out an appreciative sigh. “You didn’t exactly know I was lusting after you before this, did you?”
He went over to her and leaned down so that his mouth was next to her ear. Severus breathed, “My rather large nose is good for more than holding up my face.”
Swallowing thickly as a blush flooded her face, she asked, “Uh, you could smell me…I mean, my…” She took another drink of coffee, muttering, “I’ve never been this embarrassed in my life.”
He kissed her ear, telling her, “You don’t have to be embarrassed to be attracted to me.”
“That’s not what I’m speaking of,” she murmured, kissing his jaw. “I best get changed and go speak to Lucius.”
Frowning he inquired, as she got up and walked to the door, “Just what are you embarrassed about if not about me knowing about your arousal?”
Stopping she turned and asked him, “If you could smell it, what are the chances that, let’s say, Remus and/or Sirius could as well?”
“Oh.” He blushed then. “You didn’t want them to know that…”
“Don’t be an ass,” she told him. “I couldn’t care less who knows I want you.”
Frowning he murmured, “It’s that they were able to smell so at all?”
“Exactly.” She took a fortifying breath and said, “At least I now know why they both told me that as much as they cared for me, they didn’t think of me that way.” Rolling her eyes, she muttered, “As if I could think of them that way either. It’s like thinking about doing it with an uncle. Yuck!”
Hermione left the room, never seeing Severus’s possessive stare or the smug smile twisting his lips.

Hermione sat across from Lucius, trying to think of a way to break the topic that would more than likely have the man up in arms again. He might have a stroke over what he would think of as her “new age” or “modern thinking notions”. And those would be the nicest of ways he would phrase it, she reasoned.
“Your unwillingness to accept help in certain areas or ways has got me to thinking that perhaps we have to work through some issues or feelings you’ve avoided dealing with up until this time.”
“Feelings? Issues? What do you think I am? A Weasley?” he sneered.
“No, I think you’re a man that has lost his wife to a brutal attack,” she said casually, watching him flinch as if from a physical blow. “Not to mention his eyesight in the same violent action. Both of which has you having nightmares nearly on a daily basis.”
“I’m dealing with it,” he said hoarsely.
“No, you’re not,” she told him. “What you’re doing is avoiding the very topic of your wife and making others here do the same, punishing yourself for what you feel is your wrong doing in this attack, and trying as you might to pretend everything is life back to normal.”
“I am not!” he snapped.
“Then why is it that not once have Severus or Draco, who by and by lost his mother, haven’t uttered her name once?”
He said nothing as his face flushed pink.
“Why is it that you don’t want to use magic to help yourself out? It’s not the spell that they used on you to keep you blind. I checked that first thing. The hex cannot use other magicks performed to aid against you in a malignant fashion.”
Lucius was trembling now.
“First things first, life as you know it will never be the same. Ever.” She saw how his fingers went into a tight fist, his knuckles going white. “Being angry is natural, but don’t allow the anger to eat you up. The people who attacked you win if that happens.”
“How lovely,” he snarled at her. “You who lost not a thing, lecturing me on how to deal with loss.”
“I’ve lost a fair few things over the years,” she said quietly.
“Nothing compared to me!” he raged. “I lost my wife! My mate died…” He sobbed. “She was so scared that she couldn’t move! She might as well have been a muggle!” It was as if the floodgates had opened and all the grief he had been harboring began to pour out. “My poor witch! My poor…”
Hermione went over to him, handing him a handkerchief and hugged him. She was still doing so and rubbing his back comfortingly when Severus came into the room. Stopping in his tracks, he watched as his witch comforted his friend as best as she could. This had been a very long time coming. Silently he left the room and went to the library to do some research.

Another chapter down and more to come. Let me know how you're liking the story. I can't improve or keep going on the right path if I don't know what I'm doing right or wrong.
Okay, here we are again! It's time for Famous Last Words: Movie Edition! the answer to the last quote was "Some Kind of Wonderful" with the line said by Keith Nelson (Eric Stoltz) and directed by Howard Deutch. Cookies go out to mellena who was the only person who answered what movie it came from!! If I missed you, I'm sorry.
Time for the next quote. "Oh Please! That doesn't even sound like him! The president's an idiot! And you don't sound like an idiot! If you don't want to talk to your mother, why don't you avoid me like usual. I'll throw myself in traffic. I'll Saran Wrap myself to the..." Okay, here are your clues--This is a sci-fi film that had a French high priced fashion designer styling one and all on set. Now about the character that said the quote, well, that's where it gets tricky. How so? You never actually see her ever in the film. The role was so small a part, it wasn't even credited or given a name, but if you can tell me her son's name that will work. There you go! Thanks for reading and have a wonderful day.
