AN: And I’m back. :) I’m enjoying writing this, I hope you’re all still enjoying reading it. The James/Sirius pairing will come to end, realistically we cannot expect a love as deep as that to just disappear overnight it would be silly. Perhaps in time Sirius may even develop feelings for Remus? :O Lol. Who knows? Please feel free to let me know what you think, thank you.
Chapter Six
“This is the Master bedroom, sir. As you can see it has a lovely view over the park and is a good size, you could easily fit a double bed in here.” The man eyed Sirius warily, he was an enigma. He had already shown him several places and he had acted most strange around the electrical equipment, taking particular interest in the toaster and heating. The boy was, in his opinion, a little young to be living on his own but he said nothing as he was wearing designer clothing so obviously had some money.
Sirius’ eyes travelled around the room, it was nice. The wall paper simple, unlike many of the muggle flats he had seen which had great big brown and yellow circles covering the walls; it had been eye watering. He nodded his head and followed the man to the bathroom, it was large enough for two and the spare bedroom was adequate in size. Finally Sirius was stood in the Kitchen which was separated from the living room by a low wooden work top. “How much a month?” He asked, the first thing he had said in a while.
“Oh…I think we could do a deal, sir. Perhaps we could go as low as Two-twenty per month?”
Sirius paused a moment, he realised that the man was speaking in Muggle money. It took him a moment to work out how many Galleons that was. Slowly he nodded. “Alright, where do I sign?”

James sat on the swing, Sirius was out in London looking for his own place to live. He smoked one of Sirius’ cigarettes and gazed forlornly at the ground, his feet scuffed the dirt as he swung idly back and forth with one arm wrapped around the chain. Suddenly loud voices broke his quiet contemplation and he looked up to see a gang of muggle’s making their way towards him, he stood and stretched before stubbing his cigarette out on the ground and begging to walk away.
“Oi!”
James halted and turned his head towards the Muggle’s. “Can I help you?”
“Yeah, you got anymore cigarettes, man?”
James shook his head, pushing his glasses further up onto his nose. “No I don’t, sorry.” He moved to walk away but one of the boys grabbed his shoulder.
“We didn’t say you could leave.”
“Yeah, we’ve never seen you around here before…you’re clothes are weird.”
James frowned and looked down at what he was wearing, jeans and a jumper. “There’s very little wrong with what I’m wearing.” He said softly. “Take your hand off of me.” He shrugged out of the boys grip and heard laughter.
“Specky little git thinks he’s hard.”
James sighed heavily and closed his eyes briefly. “Look, I want to go home. I have no reason to fight you.” He took a step away again but felt the air displaced behind him, he ducked the rather vicious punch aimed at the side of his head. “Hey! What’s this for!” He spun around and glared at the boy who had tried to strike him. “I haven’t done anything to you!”
“This is our park, you’re in our territory.” The leader of the boys said with a smirk.
“I apologise, I didn’t realise you owned it…I’ll get out of your hair.” James frowned and managed to walk a distance before something hit him in the back of the head. He stumbled forward, his hand flying to his hair as pain erupted in his scalp. He swore loudly and brought his hand to his eyes, there was no blood but he was going to have quite a bruise. “Bugger…” He muttered as he wrapped his fingers around his wand, although he made no move to draw it. He didn’t want to end up in front of the Ministry for misuse of magic.
“Oi! You posh twat! Barry ‘ere’s seen you in that really nice area down town! We don’t like your kind round here.”
“Posh?” James felt a lick of anger but managed to prevent his hand from withdrawing his wand, he had to remind himself that these were muggle’s they were unable to defend themselves from Magic. “I said I was leaving, alright? Just let me go and no one needs to get hurt!”
“Hurt? What can you do you skinny little fuck? I could snap you in half with one hand!” The largest of the boys said with a sneer. “Fucking useless Toff.”
“Toff?” James was thrown by that, he didn’t even know what it meant. In his confusion someone threw another rock, he dodged backwards so it fell ineffectually at his feet. Dust peppered his shoes but he bent and picked up the rock weighing it idly in one hand. There were no rules about Muggle duelling in the muggle world…he smirked and lifted his arm back.
The rock flew through the air and hit a boy in the chest, he gasped and winced before his mates retaliated. As the first stone reached him James snatched it from the air, his reflexes lightening quick. The boys paused as James bounced the stone in one hand and smiled at them. “What’s wrong boys? Can’t handle one little posh boy?” He grinned and lobbed the stone, as he did so he muttered a fast incantation and the rock exploded as it hit one of the boys in the shoulder. It didn’t do much harm but the others gasped and stepped away in surprise. It was then that a volley of stones flew from the boys, James couldn’t dodge them all so he lifted both arms up to protect his face…unfortunately his magical self-defence mechanism set in and the rocks were stopped mid-air. James lowered his arms and saw the boys staring at him with wide, fear filled eyes. The rocks fell to the floor harmlessly and James sighed softly.
The leader was white as a sheet. “H-How the fuck did you do that?” He asked in a weak voice.
James shrugged casually. “No idea, it just happened…hey, let’s call it quits, yeah?”
The gang were slowly backing away, their eyes darting to their leader and back to James again as the pair stood facing each other like they were about to duel. “Y-You…You bloody freak! W-what kind of messed up shit is this?”
James stood perfectly still, his eyes narrowed slightly behind his glasses. He could be in deep trouble if he wasn’t careful. Either the boy’s would flee in fear of him or they would attack, he readied himself to run as he had no wish to fight as he waited for the boy to make a move. The silence spun out for a minute or so and a wind picked at James’ messy hair, a leaf drifted past on the breeze. It seemed to signal something as they leader of the Muggle gang hissed in rage. “Come on! Let’s get him!” He cried and ran forward, his friends seemed to regain their courage and followed hot on his heels.
“Fuck…” James muttered and turned on his heels, he ran as fast as his legs could take him.

The park was almost empty as Sirius wandered through it, he remembered coming here with James not long after he had run away from home. He stood beneath a group of trees and remembered being pinned up against it, James’ hand stuffed down his jeans as they kissed sloppily. He sighed and took the cigarette he had behind his ear, he lit it with a whisper and took a deep drag. Casually his eyes wandered the park, he watched a muggle woman trying to calm a sobbing baby in a pram, two old men walked past with hats shading their eyes from the sun and then a shout got his attention. He spotted a boy running full pelt across a patch of grass, behind him were several boys. Sirius watched and caught the flash of sunlight off of glass. “James!” He gasped and dropped his cigarette.

James was out of breath, he stumbled and tripped on a tussock of grass. He fell to the floor with a loud curse and rolled onto his back just in time to see the boys catch up with him. They too were out of breath but they were grinning. “Not so cocky now, are we posh boy?”
James searched for an escape route but found none, he was surrounded. “Well, I’ve found myself in quite the pickle…” He said with a grin. “Are you sure we can’t discuss this like decent human beings?”
“Bastard! Don’t be smart with me! Biff, get him.”
The large boy cracked his knuckles and James lifted his arms up, awaiting the inevitable pain. There was a whistle of air before agony erupted in the side of his face, he felt his teeth pierce his tongue and tasted the copper tang of his own blood. He rolled onto his side and spat it to the floor. “Shit…” He tried to struggle to his feet but a boot connected with his ribs, he gasped and gripped his side, his teeth bared in pain and anger.
Someone grabbed a handful of his hair and he was dragged to his knees, the leader crouched before him and smiled nastily. He reached out and took hold of James’ jaw, squeezing none too gently. “We’re going to make sure you don’t go wondering into my territory again, mate. I’ll ruin that pretty face of yours…”
“Well, well, well…what have we here then?”
The boys moved their attention from James to gaze at the dark figure standing behind them, James felt a grin surface and he laughed shakily. “Took your bloody time, Siri.”
“Sorry, Jamie, had some rather important business to take of…” Slowly he removed his leather jacket and let it fall to the floor, he rolled up his shirt sleeves slowly and calmly, like a man preparing to conduct an orchestra. “Are these guys troubling you?”
“I would say that rather troubling me, they were being mildly irritating.” James smirked and Sirius returned it, a familiar glitter in his eyes that reminded James of times past when they would get into skirmishes with Slytherin’s in the corridors of Hogwarts.
“I think we’ll have to put a stop to that then.” Sirius turned his sharp gaze to the boys. “Let him go now and no one needs to get hurt.” He said firmly.
The leader stood and swept his eyes over Sirius, noting the tight jeans, the leather jacket and long hair. He sneered. “The fucking pouf reckons he can take us, boys.” He said with a laugh.
Sirius smiled, a smile that James knew well. His eyes danced in his face, full of a hectic energy he had lacked for so long. “Come and fucking get me.” He growled.
James watched as the first boy lunged forward, Sirius swayed to the side, dodging the clumsy punch. He grabbed the boys arm and pulled him so their faces were close, with a smirk he head butted him in the nose. James laughed loudly as the boy stumbled backwards gripping his face with both hands and yelling. The boy who held James was distracted, his grip loose on his hair. James twisted and stuck out his foot, he caught the boy in his upper thigh causing him to cry out and fall backwards.
The fight was fast, messy and furious but James and Sirius grinned throughout. Even when they were hit they simply laughed, the renewal of their camaraderie making their hurts seem insignificant. James tackled a boy to the floor, lifting back his arm and punching him in the face. He heard Sirius swear loudly as someone grabbed his hair.
“Fucking hell! You’re fighting like a girl!” Sirius said loudly and there was an agonised cry as he took down whoever it was.
Eventually one boy got to his feet shakily, his wide eyes on Sirius and James. He shook his head quickly. “Fuck this! They’re freaks!” He turned and ran, when Sirius made to go after him James grabbed his arm.
“Leave it…” James said with a smile, Sirius shrugged as they stood back and watch as one by one all the boys abandoned their leader. “You’re all alone now.” James said, he crouched down before the boy and smiled, cocking his head to the side. “You shouldn’t underestimate us ‘posh boy’s’ you know…next time think twice about ganging up on someone. Get out of here.” He jerked his head in the direction of the road.
The boy sent them a heated glare, he wiped blood from his nose and stood up gingerly. “This isn’t over, fucking Homo’s.” He hissed and ran off after his friends.
Sirius stood at James’ side as they watched his retreating back, he heard a click and smelt smoke. He looked up to see Sirius smoking slowly, a thoughtful frown on his face. He had a bruise developing on his cheek bone, one eye was slightly puffy and would probably be black later. James checked his own injuries and saw scratches, bruises and a large tear in his jumper. “Damn, my mum’s going to go ape when she see’s the state we’re in.”
Sirius grinned around his cigarette as he picked up his jacket and dusted it down, grass stains covered his shirt and his jeans were torn at the knee but he was still smiling. “It was worth it though, did you see his face?”
James laughed and stood up, he threw an arm around Sirius’ shoulders and stole his cigarette. “Brilliant as always, Padfoot old friend.” He said in a puff of grey smoke as he began steering Sirius towards the exit of the park.
“Fancy a drink, Jamie? In celebration of our epic adventure?” Sirius raised an elegant eyebrow and James nodded, pulling him closer to his side.
“Yeah, let’s show those Muggle’s just how gay we can be…” He laughed and Sirius joined him.

They stumbled from the pub at closing time, Sirius had his arm around James’ neck and was laughing hysterically. “Oh…Oh Jamie…” He gasped, tears leaking from his eyes. “That was hilarious…” They stumbled, James having to hold Sirius up to keep him from falling.
“I admit to being impressed at the way the barmaid handled that.” James muttered, his voice slurring around the edges. They fell into the wall and Sirius snorted with laughter as he sank down it, James held him upright with difficulty.
“Oh man, I missed this…” Sirius said, suddenly looking up into James’ eyes. His jacket had fallen from one shoulder as he leaned against the wall, his knees bent slightly so he appeared shorter than James. His eye lids lowered and he gripped James’ jacket in his fists. “Jamie?” He breathed softly, he hadn’t been so close to James in months and he was having difficulty remembering why. His mind was flooded with alcohol, his face flushed and his hair messy as it fell into eyes that were darkening with desire. James was dragged forward, he had to put a hand on the wall at Sirius’ back to prevent himself from collapsing totally. Slowly Sirius lifted a hand and pushed it into James’ hair, his eyes flicked to James’ lips and he licked his own.
James gave voice to a soft moan as heat swept through him, he couldn’t prevent himself from leaning forward and pressing his lips against those of his ex’s. “You’re fucking bad for me.” He whispered and felt Sirius shiver. “You make me do stupid things…”
“Mmm…be stupid, Jamie…Just once. He’ll never know.”
James felt his will waver and crack with such force he could have sworn it was audible. He leaned forward and claimed Sirius’ lips, slowly running his tongue along the bottom one. Sirius opened his mouth and accepted the tongue, he smiled into the kiss and wrapped his arms tightly around his best friend. “Fuck…” Sirius whispered as they drew apart. They looked into each other’s eyes, the street lamps at their back casting them in an orange glow. “I miss you.”
“I miss you too Sirius…” James replied and suddenly dropped his gaze, he released his friend and stepped backwards. “Let’s go home.” He said in a soft, pain filled voice.
Sirius stared at him for a long moment and sighed shakily, he straightened himself out slowly. “I got a new flat.” He said and watched James for a reaction, his friend stood still before smiling weakly.
“Good…it will make things easier.” James turned slightly so Sirius could only see his profile. “This…this isn’t goodbye, Siri.” He whispered.
“What is it then?” Sirius replied, hating the way his voice wavered.
“It’s…” James paused and ruffled his hair absently. “We’ll always be friends, no matter what.”
Sirius sighed heavily and tipped his head back against the wall, absently he touched the scars on his shoulder. He knew they would be with him for the rest of his life, he also knew they wouldn’t be his last. “Alright…let’s go back to the start.” He opened his eyes and met James’ gaze. “Mates, forever.” He smiled and held out his hand, without hesitation James took it and gripped his wrist tightly.
“Marauders.” James replied and gave him a lopsided smile.

Remus opened the door with a wide yawn, Sirius stood there leaning against the frame with a wicked smile on his lips. “Afternoon.” He said as he pushed hair from his eyes.
“And you.” Remus smiled and let his friend into the house. “My parents are out, some kind of Ministry do.”
“Cool.” Sirius shed his jacket and threw it over the back of the sofa. He flopped gracefully down and looked at Remus through heavily lidded eyes, he looked tired with bags underneath his eyes and he also looked slightly beat up.
“What have you been up to?!” Remus exclaimed as he spotted the bruising on his jaw and his black eye. Sirius touched his eye with a smirk.
“James and I got into a fight with some Muggle’s…they came off worse.”
Remus sighed and shook his head, his smile full of exasperated affection. “You two are terrible.”
Sirius pouted petulantly. “I blame you.”
“How is it my fault?!”
“You weren’t there to stop us, you’re always talking sense into us.”
Remus laughed, a sound that seemed he hadn’t heard in a while. “You always ignore me anyway, why would my being there make any difference what so ever?”
Sirius shrugged and smiled. “Because it’s not the same…getting into fights without you trying to pull us off…just didn’t feel right.” He paused a moment, his eyes becoming unfocussed. “Remus?”
“Yes?” Remus sat at his side and Sirius turned his eyes onto him, he felt pinned down by the intensity in them.
“Move in with me after school.”
Remus’ mouth fell open, he eyed Sirius warily as if he was having him on. “But…what about James?”
Sirius’ face softened briefly, his eyes filling with sadness. “It’s over…for good.”
“A-Are you…sure?” A terrible guilt filled Remus as he watched Sirius smile sadly, he hated what he had done. He hated the fact that he was hurting two of his closest friends but what choice did any of them have? The wolf would have its way even if he had to draw blood to get it.
“As sure as I can be about anything. Will you? Move in with me, I mean.”
Remus considered a moment before sighing. “Of course I will, but we would need to find somewhere safe to change.”
Sirius waved a hand casually. “I’ve also bought this little run-down cottage outside the city, we can do it up, make it safe.”
Remus smiled. “Let’s do it then.”
