Chapter Seven
Harry had ended up ordering Hermione to take time off that day. She was on call, as usual, but she was told in no uncertain terms that she was to sleep, eat, and do nothing work related. This would be so much easier, she thought, if no one called her!
She glared at her land line, which was ringing yet again. She knew that it was Hardison calling her for whatever reason he could come up with in order to make her life more difficult.
Pulling out her cellphone, she dialed and waited.
“Yeah?” Eliot answered briskly.
“Are you working right now?” she inquired.
“Just working out,” he said. “Why?”
“Can you do me a favor?” she asked, attempting to rub the tension from her neck.
He stopped what he was doing. “What?”
“Is Hardison anywhere near you?”
He looked over to see the man. “Yeah.”
“Is he currently on the phone and laughing like a child, thinking he’s getting away with something?”
“Yeah, he looks like a teenaged girl the way he’s cackling.”
“Take this phone over to him please.” Eliot went over and tapped Hardison on the shoulder, cutting off his laughter as he looked up.
Hardison sobered up and snapped, “What do you want? Can’t you see I’m in the middle of something here?”
“It’s for you,” he said, waving the cell at him. “Take it.”
He did, saying, “Hello?”
“Mr. Hardison,” she said, her voice hard. “If you do not cease and desist this ridiculous farce known throughout the world as crank calling, you will be forcing my hand.”
“What? Are you going to be having me picked up off the streets like Sterling?”
“No, I shall be calling your Nana,” she growled. “Understood?”
Blanching he breathed, “Yes.”
“Now hand the phone back to Eliot.”
He held it back over to the other man. “We good?”
“Excellent,” she sighed. “Thank you for your assistance.”
“You’re welcome, darlin’.” He hung up the phone. Studying the nerd, he just shook his head and walked back over to the heavy bag to get back to his workout.
Turning off her light, Hermione punched at her pillow as she absently thought about if she would be able to get to sleep any time soon. She fell asleep before her head hit the pillow.

The knocking at her door pulled her out of sleep. Getting up, she went over and answered it to find Eliot leaning on the door frame looking like he had been beaten up to hell and back. He lifted his head slightly, but said nothing as he just looked at her.
“Can you walk on your own?” she asked quietly.
He shook his head no.
Slipping over to him, she put his arm over her shoulder and walked him into the flat. Hermione magically shut the door, as she took him straight over to the master en suite. Sitting him down on the vanity chair, she went about getting what she would need to heal him.
Soon enough she was back, putting the things down on the counter. She handed him an open vial.
“Healing potion,” she told him, when he gave her a look. “It’ll help.”
He drank it quickly, wincing once he did. “What’s in that?”
“A bunch of things you have no clue about that’ll heal you in record time,” she said, looking at the cuts on his face already appearing to seal themselves up. “Now was it your core or legs that was preventing you from walking?”
“Right ankle,” he told her. “Landed on it wrong.”
She did away with both of his boots to get more of an idea what his well ankle should look like. With great care she moved it about and saw as he flinched as she did so. Pulling out her wand, she did a quick diagnostic of the appendage.
“Good news, it’s not broken,” she told him. “I have a bandage that can take care of it.” She reached over and made quick work of wrapping his foot. “Leave that on overnight and it should be fit in the morning, but I wouldn’t recommend running about in the mean time.”
She went back to his ribs, pressing down on them gently and saw right away that he was wincing. Doing another diagnostic with her wand, she muttered, “I can’t say the same about your ribs. You have three fractures.” Looking into his intense eyes, she said, “You know I’d rather be asking this when you aren’t injured, but the shirt has to come off.”
He laughed, wincing as he did so. Hermione helped him out with it, seeing for the first time the large bruises littering his chest and abdomen.
“Oh Eliot,” she breathed, but pressed her lips firmly together before she could make an ass out of herself. She reached over and grabbed the bruise salve. “So are you done with that business with the pension?”
“Yeah, it just finished up tonight,” he told her. “You still looking for that guy?”
“Yes,” she replied. “Still looking.” She kept carefully applying the liniment to him as she spoke. “It feels like I’ve been doing this hunt forever. First there was the war and then the hunt…” She paused. “My friend Harry asked if I ever thought about what I’d be doing after we finished. I told him I thought about it. I never did answer him.”
“What are your plans?”
She went back to applying the salve to another bruise. “I haven’t a clue.”
“Why worry about that now?” he inquired.
“Because Dolohov is the last,” she told him. “And our job of the hunt will come to an end.” Looking into his eyes, she inquired, “Do you have a clue what a war weary, well educated English witch is qualified to do in this day and age?” But then she shook her head no. “Perhaps what I should be asking is something entirely different. I know what I’m qualified to do, I just don’t know what to do with it.”
“You’re thinking too much,” he told her.
“I am?” she asked, helping him stand up. “And I suppose you have a cure for that?”
“That I do, darlin’,” he purred and walked her straight over to the bed.
