Chapter 7
As Ron made his way in the direction of the two that had helped them, he wasn't sure what to make of the scene. Hermione apparently knew them, at least in some way, because of the hugging. And it was the kind of hugs that spoke of some kind of a close relationship. As he didn't recognize them, though the one looked real familiar and the other rang bells in some way, he was now wondering where it was from. Since he was an Auror, and the two would be questioned over what they did so the DMLE could use it for prosecutions, he thought he could get it out of them. Because he didn't like being left in the dark when his soon to be wife was close to people and he didn't know them. Especially if they were their kind.
After stepping in front of the two and Hermione, Ron gave the gents a nod then took in the happily beaming look on Hermione's face. That spoke to him of something that he would figure out very quickly. “I wanted to say thanks. The mess could have ended badly if you hadn't helped,” he told them, looking between the faces as he did. Oh yes, the older one looked real familiar and it was trying to jog loose in a big way. The other—the grin there—he knew that from somewhere, he just didn't know where that was and wanted to! “I know you both, don't I? I just can't remember where it's from,” he said, glancing between their faces as he tried to figure it out.“You're welcome, Ron,” Sirius chuckled, grinning, seeing the look there and assuming he was trying to place them.“You know my name?” Ron asked, bewildered. While he was in his Auror robes, they sure didn't have his name on them. He supposed if Hermione knew them, that might be where it was from. It was more than that, though, and he knew it. Just where was the issue and it was making him slightly barmy trying to figure it out.“Oh yes,” Sirius nodded, still grinning, shoulders shaking a tad as he could almost see the gears turning.Since the older one seemed more familiar, Ron focused on him to see if he could figure out where he knew the two from. This one was really familiar now that he was getting a closer look. He had seen him before, he knew it. As he gazed at him, taking in the grin, his mind was chucking up images from his third year at Hogwarts and the bit with Sirius Black. This guy wasn't scruffy like Black had been, but—then his eyes widened. Everything clicking into place, he stuttered, “Sirius? Is that you?”“Took you enough time, Ron,” Sirius snorted. “I'd say we're about even for me breaking your leg now, wouldn't you?”“Bloody hell! You look great, mate!” Ron grinned himself, reaching out to clap him on the shoulder, seeing a pleased, though wary look on his fiancé’s face. He wasn't sure about the wary bit as Sirius was cleared and could do as he wanted now without being in danger. Then he asked the first thing that came to mind, “Do you know where Harry is, Sirius? I mean, we all knew you were looking for him and assumed he was searching for you.” Of course, he wanted to know because he missed his old friend and hoped he was safe. He also wanted to know to end the speculation of what went on. By now, everyone assumed Harry wasn't dead, but had left in some way to go find Sirius. There was also the part where they desperately needed Harry to end this mess. He wasn't exactly sure how he was supposed to do that, but the Prophecy made it clear that Harry was the one that needed to and being in the Order, Albus was as well. As bad as the situation was, they needed all the help they could get in this nightmare. Harry would probably be a big one. Well, so would Sirius. After giving a huff, Hermione rolled her eyes then tutted like she always did when Ron was being thick. She wasn't going to give him a hint though. Let him sort it out himself. She was sure who Harry was would be revealed shortly as the DMLE needed to take statements from the two and would end up giving them reward money, but she could understand why they weren't saying anything else.Harry just grinned a tad as Ron wasn't getting it. After a look at Sirius then a wink at his husband, he wasn't sure what to do. Though he wanted to protect himself the best he could and was actually thinking of getting out of here to hold off the hell he knew was coming, he wanted to talk to the person that had been his best friend, too. Besides, if he just vanished, he was sure Sirius was in for hell. It would come out as he was sure Ron would end up placing who he was before this was over. A quick spell that no one could see told him those anti-Apparation wards were still up. The DMLE probably added others in as well before they showed up so the Death Eaters couldn't get away, which probably meant the elves couldn't get in to take him home. He wasn’t sure about the Portkey, but thought, like most other countries, there was one to negate those as well. A glance at Sirius and nudge, making sure Ron couldn't see, got his husbands attention. When Sirius was looking at him, he mouthed, 'what do you want me to do'.Ron kept glancing at Harry, so Sirius gave an internal sigh as the Auror began asking a couple other questions, the kind he knew were fishing expeditions about where all he had been the last couple of years. Like Harry, he had tested for those wards and was swearing internally over what was there. No matter what they did now, it was going to come out. As he was trying to decide what to do, he saw their Solicitor bustle out of the Leaky and head straight in their direction. With the man here, they could now deal with whatever the DMLE tried to throw at them. So, maybe, it was time. He would just wait for Ron to ask.Not getting anywhere with Sirius, other than vague answers, Ron was frustrated. After glancing at the other man there, one Hermione was actually leaning against and had her arm around, with him having his arm around her, hand resting on her shoulder, he noticed the wedding band once more. He figured this was a way to break the ice. A quick glance at Sirius' hand revealed the same kind of wedding band. That made his eyes widen slightly. Though he knew there were places in the world that were performing same sex marriages, the UK wasn't one of them, at least not yet. So, he asked, “Why don't you introduce me to who you're with, Sirius. I assume he's your husband from the wedding bands.”“He is,” Sirius confirmed, nodding to their Solicitor as he stepped up by him. Then, with a huge grin, he said, “Ron, meet my husband, Harry Black.”“Hey, Ron,” Harry said, trying not to chuckle, though hearing Hermione do just that.At the name Harry, Ron's brow furrowed. Head whipping in the direction of the other man, Ron stared at him. That grin—it was now more familiar than ever. “Harry,” he nodded, looking at the eyes. They were blue. The Harry he went to school with had green eyes, very distinctive ones at that. This one's were the same shape, from what he could remember, but the color was wrong. Then there was the fact that the scar wasn't there. Added in was the fact this one didn't look like the pictures people had taken over the years of Harry around the world. Those were unmistakably Harry Potter. This guy, though, looked a helluva lot like a grown up Harry to him. With a huff, Hermione rolled her eyes at Ron being an idiot. The two had given him every clue he needed to put this together and he wasn't. “Really, Ron! Quit being thick!” She finally told him in an exasperated voice.A glance at Hermione, brow furrowed, not sure what she meant, he then glanced back at this Harry. It was still the eyes throwing him. They were blue.Shoulders starting to shake as their Solicitor whispered in his ear, Sirius grinned then told Harry, “I think you should put him out of his misery before he drives himself nuts, don't you?”“Yeah, he's going mental,” Harry chuckled. He then quickly lifted his wand and waved it over his eyes, making the contacts clear. With a grin, he said, “Hey, Ron, long time no see.”His own eyes locked on those green ones, Ron's mouth dropped open. It all clicked in that few seconds. “Harry!” He squeaked out, eyes bulging. “It's you!”“Yup,” Harry told him with a grin.“Bloody hell, mate! It's great to see you!” Ron exclaimed, stepping forward and pulling him into a hug, giving him a hearty clap on the back. After releasing him, he stepped back, beaming. “You look fantastic, Harry!”“Thanks and so do you,” Harry grinned, chuckling at Hermione's muttered 'finally'.“Where have you been, mate? I mean—bloody hell, we've seen pictures of you from all over the world.” Ron said. Eyes flitting to the forehead, not seeing the scar, he asked, “And where's the scar?”“Long gone,” Harry told him with a smile. He wouldn't go any further than that, but it was enough. “And I have been all over,” he added with a smile. Again, he was not going further than that. Though no one could charge Sirius with shite, he wasn't going to give them the ammo to try either.“Bloody hell, Harry,” Ron said, unable to stop grinning. “What happened to you? Everyone wondered all these years. At first, we thought you were dead. Then you began showing up all over the place. The pictures some took made it in the papers and everyone confirmed it was you. So, tell us!”“It's not something I'm not going to talk about or reveal, Ron. Let's just say I've been safe all these years. That's all that matters in the end, doesn't it?” Harry said with a smile, though he doubted it would be enough for Ron, or anyone else for that matter. As he did, he glanced at Sirius. His husband was deep in conversation with their Solicitor. Good. It meant he was covered against whatever might come the best he could get.Just as his eyes were moving back to Ron, who appeared quite animated and ready to go on a talking spree, he gave an internal sigh and wince. Others that they knew were showing up. The Weasleys weren't a problem and he just anticipated more getting the stuffing hugged out of him and questions with that. Some of the others, though, were an issue, like Remus. As infuriated as Sirius still was with Remus, that wasn't bound to end nicely. And if Dumbledore showed up, he might have to stun his husband to get him away. He also made a mental note to make damned sure they stayed safe because they were now going to end up outed and all hell was going to break loose. As Ron started talking again, Harry could see Sirius glaring at Remus and a few others that had arrived. No, that wasn't good. Nudging Hermione out of the way and nodding in the direction the others were, he put a hand on Sirius' arm. Then he told him, keeping his voice down, “Keep it under control. No getting in a fight. It won't help anything and will just walk you right into whatever they want.”“I got it,” Sirius muttered, glaring daggers at Remus, who hadn't noticed them yet, thankfully. However, he planned to have plenty of 'words' with his 'old friend' at some point. Now wasn't good for that, though. Already their Solicitor was talking to the head of the Aurors and DMLE, someone named Shacklebolt. They would have to talk to them, of course, but this would hold off the worst, or so he hoped.Harry focused back on Ron when he was touched by him. He then grinned when he saw the excited look on his face.“Just stay right there,” Ron said, glancing over his shoulder at those who had shown up. “Mum, Dad and the rest of the family will want to see you,” he told him excitedly then dashed off to talk to his family without waiting for an answer.“And here comes hell,” Harry sighed, saying it low enough that only Sirius and Hermione could hear as his eyes were locked on all of those now looking their way, excited expressions on their faces.“We'll manage,” Sirius groaned. However, his eyes were locked on Remus, teeth grinding as he thought about how horrid Harry's life had been up until he took him and how much Remus could have prevented so much of it. They might not have had much, but Harry wouldn't have been mistreated, abused or so much else. Oh yes, his 'old friend' had a lot of explaining to do and he had plenty to say to him.“You might want to scoot somewhere else quickly,” Harry muttered to Hermione, not wanting her caught in the middle or questions asked of her if he could at all help it.Though she didn't think she'd end up focused on, as Harry made it clear he wasn't going to broach that topic, Hermione nodded, planning to stay out of the way. What she assumed was that she, and her figuring out who he was in the first place, would end up lost in the background to Harry just being there. “I'll stay safe, don't you worry.”“I don't want you drawn in if we can at all help it, Hermione,” Harry told her softly, producing the wands he had taken while keeping an eye on all those now looking in their direction, stunned and excited expressions on their faces.Eyes drifting from those looking their way to the wands Harry was holding, Sirius snorted, “Three. You got three. Bloody hell! I'm in trouble.” Then he produced the two he managed to get before they had to really defend themselves.“I did,” Harry grinned widely, lifting them up so Sirius could see. “Which means, you're in trouble. So, tell me, Sirius—how do you feel about base jumping.”Sirius was about to use his own rather colorful way to reject a suggestion Harry made when he glanced at Hermione, who was smiling a tad, looking at them. Instead, both his eyebrows went up and he told Harry, voice rising in pitch, “Hell no, Harry!”“So, sky diving is out of the question then?” Harry asked, grinning bigger, shoulders shaking.“F-hell yes it is!” Sirius told him, both eyebrows firmly planted in his hairline over that. “No way, Harry. Pick something sensible.”“Oh, like you did? I mean basilisk and dragon rides are sensible?” Harry chuckled, shaking his head.“Now, look, those weren't bad, I'll have you know,” Sirius huffed, fully planning to make sure that Harry was off this train of thought as fast as he could get him derailed. He had no desire at all to end up doing something that would about give him a fucking heart attack.“Dragon and basilisk rides?” Hermione asked, astonished, though trying not to chuckle. The two acted like an old married couple having fun. She loved that and it made her smile.Sirius quickly explained what they did then added, tone exasperated, “They were perfectly safe! The dragons were really fun. Though the one was a Fireball, it was older and used to it. The Tatsus was a water dragon. So, it went underwater. Unlike what someone picks, it wasn't that dangerous.”“And what I picked were Muggle bits. Perfectly safe as well, just got your adrenaline pumping, nothing more,” Harry grinned back. “Completely tested and safe for even Muggles, Sirius.”“And enough to scare the ever lovin' crap out of anyone with common sense!” Sirius shot back, tone exasperated.“So would dragons and basilisks,” Harry retorted with a snort. “I'll find something good, though. That big wheel on the Thames looks interesting and should be fun to try.”As Sirius had seen that, he let out a loud moan and shook his head before he breathed, “Bloody hell.” He was then distracted when Harry was all but tackled and pulled into a hug of epic proportions by Molly Weasley. That's when he grinned and chuckled.“It really is you,” a tearful Molly muttered unevenly as she held Harry close. “Merlin! Oh, Harry!”With a grin himself, Harry hugged her back and told her, “It is, Mrs. Weasley.” As he held her, feeling how tightly she was squeezing, he grinned bigger as it seemed like the entire Weasley clan, including a couple he didn't know, gathered around. The twins and Arthur were clapping him on the back and talking to him.Once she broke off the hug, a tearful Molly put her hands on his cheeks and smiled at him. “You look wonderful! So grown up!”“Because I am,” Harry told her with a smile. After a glance at who Ron told her was Sirius and Harry's husband, she asked, “Oh, Harry, where have you been?”“Let's just say safe and leave it at that,” Harry told her softly. “I was perfectly fine.”After another glance at Sirius, mind going all over, Molly smiled and said, softly, “You're married!”“Very happily married,” Harry told her, lifting up his hand so she could see the band. Before she could say more, he added, softly, “I was always safe. While I know many of you worried, I was safe from everything and well protected. And I have the most wonderful life you can ever imagine. That's all that matters now.” He didn't think that would stop the questions he was sure were coming over so much, as many weren't going to leave it alone, but he hoped it might halt the worst of them.“That's all that matters,” she told him with a smile and nod, patting his cheek.“Are you back for good, mate?” Ron asked after his brothers and father gave Harry a clap on the back as they smiled and Ginny hugged him.“No,” Harry told him firmly with a shake of his head. “We're taking care of some business then leaving.”Though Arthur hadn't known Harry well, like Molly, he saw the poor boy that had stayed with them that one summer as something akin to a child that needed them. He had been as worried as everyone else when Harry vanished. Though the sightings over the years had proved Harry was alive, he had still spent plenty of nights awake fretting over what might have happened. A glance at Sirius showed him that though the man was conferring with someone, he was paying close attention to what they were doing as well. The part about Harry leaving made his brow furrow. As dire of straights as they were in, they needed all the help they could get. He knew Remus had tried to persuade Sirius to return for that reason. He just—he didn't know, honestly. There was that Prophecy everyone was aware of now to consider as well.Though Sirius was paying attention to what their Solicitor was saying to him, keeping half an eye on Harry and the other half on the rest of the alley, he was going to stop this before it started. Especially since Ron and a couple of the others looked like they were going to say something. “We won't be staying. It's a choice we made before returning. We're just back to sell off some properties then leaving again.”Ron looked between Harry and Sirius then sputtered, “We really do need help. I mean, you're only two people, but we need all the bodies we can get, Sirius. I'm not sure what you know of how bad this is, but it's horrific.”“We aren't staying,” Sirius reiterated in a hard voice. It was then he stiffened, stood ramrod straight and clutched his wand. Eyes narrowing, he ground his teeth. Remus had seen them and Albus had come into the Alley. Yup, hell was coming. As Ron was starting to explain, probably trying to start persuading them, Harry shook his head. “We know what's going on. It's not our fight,” he said, softly, though his tone was one that made it clear that he meant it. “As soon as we finish tending to what we need to do, we're leaving again.”A glance at Sirius, who he assumed would jump in then, made Harry's eyes widen. Oh yes, his husband was angry about something. Eyes drifting to where Sirius was staring, he gave a sigh. Remus was headed in their direction and Dumbledore was talking with some of the DMLE. No, this wasn't good at all.As gently as he could, he broke away from the Weasleys, cutting off the questions being asked, then moved over by Sirius. Putting a hand on his arm, he told him, “Just don't start using spells, Sirius. We have enough problems as it is that you do not want to give them something legitimate to lock you up for.”“I won't,” Sirius assured him, teeth grinding as the smiling Remus came towards him. After making sure that Harry was right by him where he could make damned sure no one tried anything stupid, he snarled as Remus came within earshot. Then he saw Albus glance in their direction as one of the Weasley clan, he wasn't sure which one, was talking to him. Oh yes, this wasn't good.Remus smiled as he stepped closer. Indeed, this was Sirius. If Bill was right, the one standing beside him was Harry. Oh, it was perfect! With as bad of shape as they were in, Harry returning and Sirius helping would be a boon in more ways than one. Not understanding the anger reflected on Sirius' face, Remus stopped then said, keeping the smile on his face, “You both look wonderful! It's great to have you back!”Teeth gritted, snorting from anger, Sirius lifted his wand and leveled it at Remus then barked, “Get the hell away from us, Remus! We want nothing to do with a coward like you.” Eyes flitting to Albus as he made his way in their direction as well, he snarled, glancing at Remus and seeing the stunned look on his face, “Just back off and leave us alone. Especially you, Remus!”It was then that everyone in the alley seemed to stop what they were doing and looked in their direction.
