The cool September air whipped around Jarvis as he flew through the night. He was blindly flying while the past weeks memories flew around his head, he looked around the city and then landed heavily on the top of the statue of liberty. He still had the burning hatred inside of him, still had to fight the urge to attack Steve whenever he saw him around the apartment and he was having great difficulty talking to Hermione. She remained the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen, he still loved the sound of her voice, her intelligence and the thought of her touch still made his skin prickle and his…well, he still reacted strongly to her presence. But he just didn’t want her near him right now, from sunup to sundown he flew, stopping occasionally to just watch life going on around him and sometimes to eat but he found that his appetite wasn’t as strong as it once was. It was getting late now and he knew that he’d have to go back to the apartment and hide away in his room until everyone was asleep and then he’d sneak away and get something to eat.
His luck ran out when he landed outside the sliding glass doors and he saw Hermione sitting on the couch in the dimly lit living room. She wasn’t reading, not watching TV and her friend wasn’t with her, her knees were pulled up to her chin and she was staring out at nothing. She was waiting for him and he knew it and considered taking off again and not coming back until she lost her interest and went to bed but knew that wasn’t the wisest decision. He walked in and casually went straight for the kitchen opening the fridge and grabbing stuff from the dinner they had had out. The light never turned on but he heard Hermione walk in and the shadow told him that she was standing in the doorway. She sniffled and he got that strange butterflies in the stomach feeling again and he put the food away before turning to look at her.
“I have a problem” Hermione told him “I don’t…know, how to explain it”
“You don’t have to explain anything to me” He told her “Have a good night”
“Please” She cried out when he walked past her “Please, Jarvis, please…don’t hate me. I can put up with everyone being mad at me, hating me and looking down at me but not you”
“I don’t hate you” He whispered from near her shoulder “And I’m not looking down at you”
“But you’re mad at me” She pointed out.
“I’m” He couldn’t think of the right words “I’m…upset”
“Jealous” She whispered and he nodded.
“Goodnight, Hermione” He answered.
He was sitting in his bedroom hours later reading when he heard someone walk past his door. Curious, he opened it and looked out watching Luna go in to the living room and he wanted to go back in to his room but he also wanted to know what was going on. He stayed in his room until she’d made it to the end of the long hallway and then walked smoothly down it and poked his head around the corner looking in to the living room. Looking across to the other hallway that led to Bruce and Natasha’s, Tony’s, and Thor’s bedrooms and found Tony was peeking around the corner as well. Luna looked around the big, dark and quiet room before she knelt down in front of the fireplace and threw something in. All they could hear was her breathing before there was a whooshing noise and then the room was filled with a dancing eerie green light and then there was a male voice speaking softly to her.
“How is she, Luna?” Harry asked.
“Oh, Harry” She breathed “She’s far worse than I had expected”
“Are they harming her?” Harry asked angrily “I swear to merlin I will go there and…”
“No, Harry” Luna said quickly “They are amazing here. They are helping her more than they could know but Harry…she’s still so haunted, I could see it from the minute I looked in her eyes and then…” She launched in to what had happened a week before. The whole conversation lasted a little more than an hour, she had to keep stopping to listen for noises and was seemingly unaware that she had an audience.
“So there is a man that loves her there” Harry said.
“I didn’t say that” Luna said “But…Jarvis does seem to have this connection with her. He can sense her emotions even though he doesn’t even know or understand that he can do it, he cares for her deeply though I’m not really sure he understands that either”
“But Hermione’s been teaching him emotions” Harry pointed out “Surely she’s taught him everything possible, you know how she is when she’s teaching”
“Yes” Luna agreed “But I also know that she doesn’t seem to think that she’s worthy of more than a quick shag in a broom closet so I don’t really know if she’s truly been able to show him what it’s like to love someone”
“You mean sex?” Harry said.
“No, Harry” She sounded annoyed “Love is so much more than physical its even more than just a feeling and I’m not sure if Hermione’s teaching him that because she’s never really felt love for anyone other than her family”
“What are you going to do?” Harry asked “I think you two should come home”
“No” She answered “Having her seeing Ronald all the time, seeing you and Parvati all happy together, Draco and Ginny together and moving on with their life…it’s not good for her. She needs to move on with her life here and I feel that her life, weather she knows it now or not, is going to heavily involve Jarvis. As well as her cousins and even Tony, Natasha and Bruce and Thor and as crazy as it sounds, even Steve”
“Maybe I should come visit” Harry said thoughtfully and more to himself than to her.
“Maybe” Luna agreed “But not for a few months. Maybe around Christmas holiday but not now, I don’t think Tony could take another visitor right now and I think seeing you would do more harm than good for her nerves right now”
“I understand” He said “Take care of her for me, Luna…she’s like my sister and I love her”
“I know, Harry” She answered “I will. I’ve got to go now, if Hermione wakes up she’ll likely figure out where I am and if anyone else catches me they’ll tell Tony and he doesn’t know that I’ve hooked up his fireplace to our ministry”
“Sneaky” Harry said with a soft chuckle “For a Ravenclaw”
Jarvis moved quickly and silently back to his room, shutting the door moments before he saw her shadow pass from the crack under the door. He turned out his light and laid down on his bed looking at the ceiling thinking about what Luna had said about Hermione’s abilities to teach him about love. Was it true that she wouldn’t be able to because she’d never been in love? One would assume that they could teach one another but then again he wasn’t a normal human being and maybe that was what stood in the way.

Jarvis was reliving the memory of seeing Steve with his hands all over Hermione. It wasn’t a dream though, through his reading he’d learned that dreams were often part memories, part unresolved problems and then wishes that one doesn’t realize they want until it’s been recognized. He didn’t see dreams, he saw memories and often times he didn’t want to see those memories, this being one of those times but he didn’t know how to stop them from happening.
*He walked around the corner wanting to ask Hermione a question about something he’d read in the book he’d found in Tony’s library. He looked up and stopped in his tracks, it felt like he was punched in the stomach, the only difference was that this actually hurt him. He recognized the long caramel colored curls first and then he noticed the masculine hand that was holding that beautiful hair. Pulling her head back and then he realized that it was Steve kissing her, devouring her mouth hungrily and Hermione was just letting him. She wasn’t really egging him on but she wasn’t stopping him either, the shattering glass that Wanda dropped pulled his attention away for a moment but not long. He looked back at Hermione and met her gaze for a moment, he looked at Steve but couldn’t even work up enough anger to glare at him. He was hurt and he didn’t like the feeling.*
Jarvis gasped and blinked rapidly for a few minutes before looking around his room and then stood up. It was later than he usually got up but it wasn’t like it mattered, no one cared about him anyway. He showered and made his way out of the bedroom only to stop immediately, finding Hermione standing there with a small smile on her face. He frowned a little and walked past her, it was raining outside and the apartment was empty, he walked from room to room and looked around but there was no one other than him and Hermione in there. He finally sighed and turned to look at her, tilting his head to the side and waiting for the explanation.
“Everyone went to Clint’s house” She explained “Even Luna, his wife had the baby and they’re all going to coo at it and give it love for a while before coming home, they’ll probably be a gone for a few days, except for Luna, she can apperate anywhere she wants so she may come back”
“You did not go” He pointed out.
“I don’t really know Clint” She answered “I don’t know his wife…that’s why I didn’t wake you either, they told me that you didn’t know them so I thought…”
“I’m going out…” He started to walk to the sliding doors.
“Please don’t leave me” She whispered “I know that you’re mad at me but please don’t leave me here alone. It’s raining and grey out, I don’t want to be in this big apartment alone”
He looked at her and then turned away but stopped and sighed at himself. He couldn’t leave her alone, someone could get in, she could get hurt and no one would be there to help her. He knew that she was more than able to take care of herself but it was the only way he could make force himself to sit down and hand her the remote. She sat near him and searched for a movie before settling on something that was used more for background noise than anything else. It was awkward now when it used to be so comfortable being near her, he used to go to sleep excited for the next day when he’d be able to be near her again. They used to be able to sit in a comfortable silence not the loud one they were in now and they used to be able to converse about everything but now it was impossible to be in the same room.
“I know that you’re…” Hermione searched for the right word and Jarvis turned his head slowly to look at her almost as if in warning “Confused about what…”
“I am not a child” He said turning disinterested eyes back to the television “Luna made it very clear. You are constantly searching for someone to take care of and I fit the bill but when I started to prove to be very near the end of my need to be taught you…moved your interests on to someone else”
“Wow” Hermione said, sitting back and looking at the window “That was the most complicated way to call someone a ‘slut’ I have ever heard. The fact that it’s coming from you, someone who has proven to be very sweet, it hurts more than it should have” She turned her eyes to him and he saw the fire that had been missing for the last couple of weeks had come back, it was the fire that she had shown him her first day there when he’d been going through her stuff and it was the fire that made her slap his hands away from everything that he wanted to touch “You may not be the same android you were when I got here, Vision” She sneered “But you are anything but able to function without a teacher”
“So…it’s Vision again?” Jarvis asked her, he could feel anger, not rage but anger and hurt and a little arousal filling him “Not allowed to have my own individuality?”
“We’re having a fight” Hermione snapped at him as she pulled herself to her knees so she could look in his face “I can say whatever I want!”
“Then you” He said glaring at her, he’d never been in a fight before other than a physical one and knew that he’d never hit her, he had really no clue what to say “Are a…nagging…bitch” He heard Bruce call Natasha that once and only hoped that he didn’t get slapped like Bruce did. Suddenly, Hermione pressed closer to him and before he could form a sentence her lips were against his and she was effectively silencing him.
