Chapter 7
Sirius’s POV
I was lying in bed, thinking about the party last night. My head was throbbing and I felt terribly hung-over. I shouldn’t have drunk that much. Sure the alcohol made me braver, but the hangover wasn’t worth it. I was glad I had listened to James and asked Alexandra to dance. It surprised me that she said yes. She had made it very clear that if I couldn’t be friends with her at school, she’d rather not be friends at all.
It had been nice to spend some time with her. When the song ended, I’d taken her to the makeshift bar, and talked with her. When I said that I missed her, she berated me for drinking too much. It was as if she didn’t believe me. Not that I blamed her for that, I’d prove myself to her.
I’d wanted to ask her to go to Hogsmade with me the next weekend, but her friends joined us, and I lost my nerve. I couldn’t imagine the damage to my reputation if she refused.
When Mary had said they would be going back, I took Lex’ hand, and kissed it, wishing her a good night. I took it as a good sign that she didn’t pull her hand back. Behind Lex’ back I saw James giving me a thumbs up.
Yawning, I got up, drank the sobering up potion that was on my bedside table, and went down to the common room. ‘About time’ Peter said when I joined my friends. ‘We were just about to come and get you’ Remus said. ‘What time is it? I asked. ‘Almost lunchtime’ James replied.
‘So, I danced with Evans yesterday’ James started, looking triumphant. ‘How much did she have to drink?’ Peter asked. James playfully smacked him on the head. ‘Not too much I’m sure.’ He answered.
‘You sent me in first, seeing if she’d dance with you.’ Remus said. ‘What really surprised me, was Sirius and Zabini not being at each other’s throat. ‘Were you that drunk? Or have you lost your nerve knowing she can send you to the hospital wing with her hand tied behind her back?’ Peter asked.
James, who was leading the way to the great hall, turned around. ‘Where were you Peter, that you missed all of that?’ Peter didn’t answer. On the way downstairs James filled him in on what had happened. As I expected, James thought it really funny that I’d been jealous of Davy dancing with Lex.
When we reached the great hall Peter said ‘The way she looked last night, I’m surprised no one shoved against the wall and took her right there.’ The others didn’t know what to say to that, so they simply didn’t react as they took their seats. I sought Lex out, and grumbled, she was sitting next to Snape again. I nodded at her, she didn’t appear to have noticed. A Ravenclaw 7^th year waved at me. This confused me, but I waved back, never let it be said I was impolite. ‘What’s that about?’ I asked James. James, who had been staring at Evans at the Ravenclaw table, turned his attention to me ‘What do you mean?’
‘That blond Ravenclaw over there, the 7^th year, she was waving at me, and I don’t even know her name.’ James looked at the girl. ‘That’s Laura Wallace, rumour has it, she did Goyle in the library last week.’ He said grinning. Some of those girls would do anything. I looked over at Laura again, she was talking to Lex now. Suddenly Lex got up, and left the room.
I made to go after her, but Remus stopped me. ‘Best to let her cool of a bit, or you’ll be at the receiving end.’ He said.
It was strange how Remus knew so much about girls, even tough he’d never been in a relationship before. I would seek out Lex later, when she was alone.
After lunch, I had to catch up on homework. Due to all the quidditch practices before the game, I was falling behind. We had a potions and a charms essay due the next day, so we reluctantly made our way to the library.
I was looking for a book when I felt someone’s presence. Evans was making her way towards me, looking annoyed for some reason. ‘Hey Evans, what’s got you knickers in a twist?’ I asked, shooting her a confident smile. This seemed to annoy her even more. She drew level with me, and slapped me hard across the face. It didn’t really hurt physically, I took a step back just out of her reach. ‘What did I do?’ I asked, rubbing my cheek. James, who had been closest, had heard the noise, and came looking. ‘What happened?’ he asked, his eyes wide when he spotted Lily. She looked at James, disgusted. ‘How can you be friends with this son of a bitch?’ she asked.
‘What did I do to deserve that?’ I asked, I was still very confused at her attitude. ‘I think you owe the man an explanation Evans, you cant just go about smacking people in the face without a good reason.’ James said reasonably.
‘I’m sure your friend knows he deserves it.’ She said, clearly still enraged. She tried to leave, but James stopped her. ‘Enlighten me, why does Sirius deserve to get slapped across the face?’ He made a sign for me to leave, which I did, glad for the distraction. It left me puzzled tough, what was Evans’ problem?
I reached the other end of the bookshelf, from which I’d be able to eavesdrop. I heard Lily’s voice again. ‘-led her on.’ I still couldn’t figure out what it was I’d done wrong.
‘Are you sure about this?’ James asked. ‘Wallace may be a slag, but at least she’s honest.’ Lily answered him. ‘She told you about it?’ he asked, surprised. Lily sighed, I could just picture her rolling her eyes, that’s what Lex would do. ‘She didn’t give us any details, luckily, but she told us, and I quote, when I rode his broom last night.’ James fell silent. I stood there listening in shock. I couldn’t remember sleeping with someone last night, then again, I couldn’t remember how I got to my dorm either. The next bit of the conversation was lost on me, I tried very hard to remember whether or not I’d slept with someone. I came to my senses when Lex was mentioned again. ‘-Alex looked devastated when she heard, Severus went after her, but I can’t find either of them.’
I didn’t wait to hear the rest of the conversation, I left the library in search for Lex.
I had a pretty good idea where I’d be able to find her. In our first years at Hogwarts, we had tried being friends without anyone noticing. We usually snuck out after curfew to meet at the bank of the lake. When I started 3^rd year, I told Lex it wasn’t safe to meet up. A few months before that I’d found out about Remus being a werewolf. I didn’t want Lex on the grounds when he became a wolf, it was too dangerous. What if he escaped and bit her?
Of course she’d taken it badly, she took it as yet another sign I didn’t want to be her friend. Things had been going downhill from there.
I was sure she’d gone there. I hoped she would listen to me. From what I heard of the conversation between James and Lily, Lex thought I wanted to lead her on to humiliate her by sleeping with Laura. I was very sure I hadn’t slept with her. Despite my reputation of a girl magnet, I had never slept with anyone. Sure I had given and received several hand and head jobs, but I never took any of them to bed. I was sure I’d remember if I had done so last night.
I stopped dead when I rounded the corner and was met with the sight of Alexandra, who was all cuddled up in Snape’s arms, seemingly asleep.
A red haze clouded my vision. The monster I had only briefly felt the night before taking over. I drew my wand, and cast a curse at Snape. It made him fly several feet backwards.

After 2 short chapters, I’m finally able to write a decent length one. For those still following, thank you for reading. I’m back at work, so I hope I’ll be able to write more. Being at work inspires me more than being on holiday.
