Harry and Draco appeared first inside the ministry apparition point followed by Hermione. She was still reeling under the fact that Malfoy had been so quick to act. All three took the lift to the Sports Minister's office. There inside a cubicle sat Andrew. Draco realized that the boy had indeed grown in these two years. He was busy writing something when Draco called his name. Andrew looked up smiling and when he saw Harry, Hermione and Draco his face lost its color and his smile. He sat still unable to react to their presence. Finally Draco stood near him and asked him, "Andrew, do you mind if we ask you a few questions about Rose? We know you were both friends. And I suggest that you take time out now. Surely if news spreads that Harry Potter wanted to talk to you, I am sure the Minister for Sports will summon you immediately." The underlying threat was very clear and Andrew reacted immediately. He greeted them and took them to one of the conference rooms and closed the door. Harry locked it. They all sat around a round wooden table in comfortable office chairs.
The silence was deafening so Hermione spoke unable to bear it any longer, "Andrew we have definite proof that you gave Mr Malfoy a drugged liquid. So if you do not want to go to jail for that, please explain to us why you did it?"
Andrew looked at her terrified. She was after all Hermione Granger, the brains of the trio. She was legend. He knew he was caught or else Harry Potter would not have been here and so he spoke in a low voice, "They say that one shouldn't speak ill of the dead but I have no option but to do so. Rose...Rose was...she was a bully to me in school. Even after graduation whenever we met, her behavior towards me did not change. So when I met her at that party she blackmailed me and told me that she would out the fact that I was caught cheating in an exam if I did not do as she told me to. She knew I was applying for the Personal assistant post at the ministry. She knew even a rumor like that would put my application at the bottom. So I did as she told me and offered Mr. Malfoy the drink. I do not know anything else."
Hermione put her head in her hands and sighed. Draco looked at her worriedly. This was not what they wanted to hear but the truth was out. Rose had definitey planned all that happened that night. Harry rubbed her shoulder consoling her. Andrew stared at her with wide eyes tensed that he upset her. She looked at him her eyes a bit watery, "Tell me exactly what happened that night."
Andrew nodded and answered after gulping down his fear, "I was enjoying myself that night. I even had a witch who was interested in doing things with me that night. In a way I think someone had drugged everybody's drinks because everyone there was acting strangely open. Then suddenly out of nowhere I find a hand on my shoulder and I turn around to see Rose smiling at me. Excusing myself I went with her not wanting to create a scene. I had some very bad experiences with Rose and Micheal. They...they used to bully me and some other boys as well. we always avoided them at school. She took me to a corner and then instructed me to give a drink to Malfoy with a fluid she gave in a vial. I refused but then she threatened me with my job application. I was broke and I needed that job desperately and so I agreed to do as she said. she told me that she had to get ready but she would be expecting him in half an hour in the room. I was scared and prayed that Malfoy would not come but he did and then I gave him the drink I had prepared specially for him. I left the party as soon as I handed him the drink because I knew there would be trouble. I am so sorry Mr Malfoy but I never wanted to harm you or anything. I did not even know what that fluid did. I was just looking out for myself. I was worried that aurors might come looking for me the next day but when nothing happened for over a week I assumed that maybe Rose had played a prank and that all was well. Now I know I was wrong to assume so. Did that drink harm you Mr Malfoy?"
Draco simply looked at the young man with eyebrows drawn together and his face a calm mask. He simply shook his head and looked at Hermione who was trying very hard to not get angry at the man. Harry cleared his throat to get his attention and asked, "Did Rose bully you with Micheal?"
Andrew nodded, "They were a team. They used to call us names and forced us to do their work sometimes. I had some very tense moments during those years. My time at the school was not a very happy one. I am sorry I did not want to say this about Rose but she was a brilliant actress and she had brains too so no one believed that she was a bully. Everyone just assumed that she was as studious as her mother."
Hermione snorted at that and asked, "Did they ever hurt you?"
Andrew shook his head, "No, they played mind games but never physically hurt others. That is why nobody believed that they could bully us."
Draco looked at Andrew suspiciousy and asked, "What did you do with the vial?"
Andrew's eyes grew wide as he remembered, "Oh! Merlin, I thought you found it. I had hidden it in one of the huge plant vases you have on your ballroom corners. I did not come back to take it, instead after giving you the drink and saying goodbye I simply left. My only thought was that I should not be there if something went wrong."
Draco shook his head, "I searched the place. I did not find a vial and I searched everywhere. Are you sure about the place?"
Andrew nodded vigorously, "I remember. I had so many sleepless night because of that."
Harry stood up to go as did Hermione. There wasn't much they could find out about that night from Andrew. he was the culprit though he was blackmailed to do so. Draco stood up as well but then as they were leaving he turned and asked, "Andrew, when Rose asked you to give the drink did she just say Malfoy?" Andrew nodded and Draco thanked him.
The three went to Harry's office which was two floors up. When Harry closed and locked the door behind them, Hermione threw up the charm to soundproof the room. Draco slipped into the nearest chair and Hermione took the ne next to his. Harry sat in his own chair after summoning the tea to make itself using a spell.
"So, what do you think?" Harry asked. Hermione shook her head in disbelief, "I cannot believe that Rose was a bully. She was so kind to Hugo, Ted, Lily, in fact every one. when did she change so much and that too right in front of my eyes. She was always so happy and inclusive. She never kept someone away because they talked back to her or denied her some toy. I saw her play when I was home. She was always a good girl."
Draco snorted, "So was I when I had my cousins visiting me but I was a brat in school. Children sometimes can be very...very I don't know ...for lack of a better word...cunning. They know by instinct what will please the adults and they then behave likewise. I did that to my uncle Lantham. He was the one who used to give me the best presents for Christmas. I used to be well behaved when he was around."
Hermione heard his words and was lost in thoughts. Harry looked at both of them and then asked, "So... you don't find it suspicious that she had already thought of whom she would use for her plan. I mean this was not done impulsively. she knew who her target would be."
Draco nodded gravely and spoke, "She said Malfoy, she did not mention if she wanted Scorpius or me. Maybe Andrew got the wrong Malfoy? Just a thought...is all. Scorpius is more her age and more accessible as well. There was no way she could know if I would be there in that party or not. I mean...logically my brain is saying that maybe she meant Scorpius because it was his party."
Hermione and Harry stared at Draco dumbfounded by his logic. They had not thought it all out until he mentioned that both he and his son were called Malfoy by their friends. Hermione nodded slowly and said, "Well done Malfoy...I did not think of that. Maybe you are right...maybe she wanted Scorpius in that room." It all made more sense now.
Harry agreed, "Yes, I think you are right. Maybe Rose wanted Scorpius. But there is still the matter of the vial. If you could not find it then who must have taken it? Rose would not know where Andrew had hidden it because she was not in the room. So where is the vial?"
Hermione could not think of an answer but Draco was in deep thought and then suddenly he slapped his forehead and groaned, "Oh...how stupid of me. of course it is not there! I had ordered Tippy to collect all potions and vials in that room before I went down. It could be that Tippy took it and threw it away. I will have to check with him. give me a moment. Tippy!"
The cleanly dressed Elf arrived, "You called Master." Draco spoke with him while Hermione and Harry digest what Draco had just revealed, "Tippy remember the night you came to me in the library complaining about broken furniture. Scorpius's friends had done the damage. Remember that night?"
Tippy nodded slowly worried that he might have done something wrong. Guessing his thoughts Draco immediately put him at ease, "Don't worry Tippy. You did nothing wrong. Just tell me did you collect all the vials and potions that night?"
Tippy answered, "yes master and I put them all in the cabinet as you had asked." Draco smiled and siad, "Good elf Tippy. very good." Tippy beamed at Draco happy with his praise. He looked at Harry and said, "The medicine cabinet has a stasis charm which means the vials and potions will all be fresh."
Harry smiled at his meaning and then asked, " Ask him if he can bring those exact ones here. We can have Andrew identify the vial and if possible maybe we can test it to find out its strength." Draco nodded and asked Tippy to bring them. Within seconds Harry's desk was covered wth different vials and flasks. Harry looked stunned while Hermione for the first time laughed out loud seeing Harry's surprised face.
Tippy left and Draco shrugged his shoulders when Harry gave him a glare. Harry sent a memo to Andrew to come at once. The poor young man came running inside his office and stared at the bottles and vials on Harry's desk. "Can you identify the vial that Rose had given you," he asked. Andrew took time to blink his eyes and breath normally before lifting some of the vials. He then picked up the twelfth vial and nodded, "This is it. The fluid was light blue like the sky. This is it." Harry thanked him and Andrew left happy to be released.
Draco looked at the vial in Harry's hand. It contained some blue fluid. "Now what," he asked.
Harry looked at him and replied, "Now we test what it can do." Draco looked horrified at his suggestion while Hermione shivered fearing the outcome of the test.
