Harry sat down at the table in Andromeda’s huge dining room and smiled at his friends. Seated next to him was Luna, Draco and Hermione were across from him and Teddy was near Hermione and Andromeda was at the head of the table. He’d told Ginny that he was working late because he knew that she wouldn’t care or check on him, she was too busy living her own life to remember anything about him.
“I am so happy that you are all here” Andromeda greeted “How are all of you?”
“Busy” Luna answered, looking at Hermione “I have information for you by the way”
“What kind of information?” Andromeda asked, confused.
“I’ve been doing research for Hermione about some…orphanages” Luna said meaningfully to the older woman. She looked at Hermione and slid the envelope towards her “This is everything that I found”
“Thank you” Hermione looked down at the small envelope longing to open it but making herself put it in her beaded bag “Teddy, what house do you think you’ll be in?”
“I’m hoping for Gryffindor like my dad” Teddy answered, sporting light brown hair for the formal dinner “But Hufflepuff is good too, mum was brave, smart a loyal friend and kind so it’s like being part of both houses”
“A good way to look at it” Harry said.
“And what if you’re in Ravenclaw or Slytherin?” Luna asked “Any thought given to that?”
“Yes” He nodded happily “It doesn’t matter to me, as long as I have friends”
“I’ll be happy to watch you learn and have fun” Andromeda said.
“It’ll be safer without me there” Harry said, causing everyone to laugh.
“So” Andromeda said “What have you been up to, Draco?”
“Actually, that is something I wanted to tell everyone” He answered “Potter already knows because he’s been helping me” He looked at Hermione nervously “Next week I take my legal exams”
“I thought you already did that” Hermione said.
“I’m a magical lawyer” Draco agreed “But I will be an Auror after this exam”
“Will they let you?” Luna asked, surprised.
“They have to” Harry said “We have like, no one to be Aurors because they’ve all quit because of Height”
“What about Malfoy, Inc. are you selling?” Hermione asked.
“No” He looked amused that she would even ask that “I’ve been running it only too easily from home for the last ten years, they don’t need me there all the time and I’d get bored…plus, I won’t be an Auror forever, just until Height is out of office” Harry nodded at him, as if giving him permission to do something “Which brings me to another point of business”
“Teddy” Andromeda said “Why don’t you go play with Mipsy upstairs?”
“But I want to hear the news” Teddy whined.
“You’ve finished eating” She pointed out “And this is adult conversation, please go upstairs”
“Fine” Teddy whined a bit as he stomped away.
“What is it, Draco?” Andromeda pressed.
“It is my intention to help Potter” He said, looking over to the other man “Get elected as the next Chief Warlock, in order to do that I will need to be able to do the type of searching that I can only do as an Auror and I will need your help”
“Our help?” Luna said “How can we help, we’re not ministry employees”
“You’re the voting public” Draco answered “And around this table we’ve got some huge talent in different fields. Andromeda you’re a respected private Healer, you can plant the seed that Potter would be a good Chief Warlock within your clients which are generally wealthy witches and warlocks” His eyes slid over to Luna “You’ve got your own newspaper that can help along his campaign, Hermione you’re the smartest witch of your age and able to do anything and I’m…well, rich and a fact seeker”
“And smart” Harry added grudgingly.
“Thanks” Draco said with a smirk “Together we can help Potter get in to that office”
“Then we will do our best” Andromeda promised.
“Good” Draco said “Thank you. On Monday, I will be taking my exam and Potter will be signing up as a candidate with the Minister of Magic. By Wednesday, we will be working on happenings, parties, speeches…we’ve got two months to sway the wizarding world”
“That’s not a long time to do a lot of things” Andromeda sighed “I will work as hard as I can to sway the people that I work with”
The night went on, the envelope was practically burning through Hermione’s bag. She wanted nothing more than to open it and see what Luna had found, Hermione tried to get her to talk about it but she would just smile and shake her head. That wasn’t the only thing bothering her, it was the kiss…she couldn’t stop thinking about it and a bunch of other things that she’d been overlooking. His calling her ‘love’ it never dawned on her that he could flirting, she called Harry ‘love’ all the time and she never got the urge to make-out with him, there were the clothes it made her wonder if maybe they’d been a gesture of…dare she think it? Love?
“Hermione?” Draco stood at the door with her cloak in his hands “Are you ready to go home, love?”
“Yes” She whispered, walking over to him and allowing him to help her in to her cloak and smiling at him “Thank you, Draco” They walked out the house and down the driveway, he reached out his hand and took hers in his with a small secret smile.
“Are you…happy with my choice to take the Auror exam?” He asked, she could tell from the way he was looking at her that it was important to him if she was pleased with his decisions.
“I am” She told him honestly “But how…you weren’t studying to be an Auror in Hogwarts”
“How do you know?” He asked, raising a brow at her “Did you look at my school records at some point?” His grin widened “Naughty girl”
“In our sixth year” Hermione informed him “I was trying to make up for my poor Potions grade and interned in the hospital wing. When you make a decision on what it is that you want to do it goes in your medical record so Madame Pomphrey can make sure to treat whatever injuries you get properly” She smiled at him “My interest was what it was you were studying, that was shocking, Mr. Malfoy”
“Hey” He pushed her lightly with his elbow “Healing is a respectable profession”
“I know it is” Hermione said, as they reached the apparition spot and he looked at her, gently running his fingers through her curls “I was just shocked that a Malfoy would go for that”
“I was already learning business at home through my father” Draco explained, he pulled her against him and apparated to the manor “I chose to study Healing for me”
“Do you know what I studied?” Hermione asked.
“No, I don’t snoop around in people’s files” He gave her a small smirk “Let me guess…how to rule the world?”
“You know” Hermione said as they bypassed the front door and started to walk outback towards the rapidly dying flowers in the garden “I asked about those classes and it apparently was discontinued because of Voldemort” He chuckled “I studied Healing”
“In an alternative universe” Draco said as they stepped in to the gazebo “We would have likely ended up at the same university, in the same classes, going to the same parties…maybe I would have finally asked you out”
“Maybe I would have said yes” Hermione said as he pulled her in front of him “Maybe we would have gone skiing, spend Christmas together with my family”
“Maybe my father would have finally swallow his pride and accept you” He said “Maybe my mother would have brought you shopping and to get your nails done and to the spa”
“Maybe I’d even like it” Hermione answered, her breath got stuck in her throat as he leaned closer to her, his lips brushing against hers.
“Maybe I’ll ask you to marry me” Draco whispered against her lips “Maybe we’ll have a big wedding and honeymoon at my summer manor on the beach”
“Maybe I’ll say yes” Hermione whispered back to him before he kissed her again.

“Mr. Height” Ron greeted as he sat down in front of the big desk “I visited the orphanage in Scotland”
“And what did you find?” Height asked, he looked only slightly interested.
“Nothing” Ron answered “It was an empty building, there had been kids there at one point but not for the last few years”
“I knew that most of them closed, Mr. Weasley” Height said “I want paperwork if possible, I want find the ones taken during the war, making sure that we are all safe from those little…monsters”
“I found nothing, sir” Ron told him, sighing as he lifted his hands in ‘what are you going to do’ manner and shrugged his shoulders “I’m sure one the other buildings will have something”
“Probably” Height sighed “A lot of those buildings were abandoned at the end of the war, most likely taking all the documentation with them” He looked out his window at the muggle world “Probably for the best, really”
“Once again” Ron said “I am sorry, sir”
“You did good, Weasley” The man said, standing he shook Ron’s hand “There will be a nice little bonus in your check”
“Thank you, sir” Ron said “Is there another job that you need me to do?”
“You can go home tonight” Height said “You’ve done a lot of work so I’d say it’s time to rest up some. When you come in on Monday there will likely be some paperwork that I need done”
“Okay, sir” Ron said “Thank you”
Ron walked out of the office, usually there was a spring in his step but it was gone now. He’d spoken the truth, he found the orphanage and it had been completely empty but he did find some paperwork. It was almost like a receipt one would get if buying a pet and Height had been the one that signed, selling half-breed children to wealthy people for some, strange reason. It didn’t sit well with Ron, he had many, many faults but human (or semi-human) trafficking, torture and murder weren’t any of his faults. The fact that he hadn’t given his boss the information he had was something he’d never done before. He felt odd, nervous, sick and angry that he’d been given this case, he wanted nothing more than to go back to the Aurors but they didn’t want him back. They all thought he was a traitor, sneaky and someone to hate and maybe they were right actually he was almost certain that they were right.
“Dad?” Ron called as he peeked around the door of his dad’s workshop, his mother was with Ginny at the moment.
“Yeah?” Arthur turned his head to his youngest and smiled a slightly grim smile “You okay, son?”
“Dad…can I talk to you about something?” Ron asked.
“Me and not your mum?” Arthur looked surprise.
“I don’t think this is a subject that mum would be particularly good with” Ron admitted “You got a minute?”
“Of course” Arthur said, moving aside a bunch of spark plugs from another bench so that Ron could sit with him “It’s been a while” The older man smiled and moved around to a hidden cabinet and pulled out some Fire Whiskey and offered some to his son who nodded.
“Dad” Ron said after sipping his drink “If you had a job to find something and you found it but it turned out to be something terrible that had to do with your boss, the one who hired you, would you still give it to him?”
“How bad is it, Ron?” Arthur asked, wearily.
“If it is what I think it is…” He said “Then it’s Voldemort bad just…not the same type of crime, if anything…it’s more evil than Voldemort”
“Does it make him dangerous?” Arthur asked in a whisper.
“I don’t know” Ron sighed, irritated by his lack of knowledge “It could or maybe not…I don’t know what to do, who to give this information to” He gripped his dads hand suddenly “I’m worried that it’ll put a target on my back…yours too if I tell you too much about it”
“Ronald” Arthur looked in to his youngest sons eyes and saw the very real fear in his eyes and felt that he was honestly terrified for his life “Bring it to Harry…” Then he shook his head “No, actually don’t do that” He thought for a moment “I have an idea, but you won’t like it”
“What is it?” Ron asked.
“Bring it to Hermione” Arthur offered, the young red-haired male sighed again and looked down at his hands before rubbing them over his pale face.
“Why?” He asked.
“Because Height already hates her” Arthur offered “He’s already going after her so she’s already prepared” Ron looked at him a nodded.
“Thanks dad” He said and stood up “Thanks”
Ron apparated from the Burrow to Diagon Alley then went through the Leaky Cauldron and in to muggle London. He looked both ways and then drew his wand out of his holster and held it out. The Knight Bus came whipping around the corner just a minute or so later and came to a screeching halt in front of him. He got on, was told that they had three stops to make and then would ask where he was going and then went on with their trip. Ron fell in to a seat and watched out the window, watching the world go by in a flashing blur. He was going to be seeing Hermione again, he had been thinking about her, wondering where it had all gone wrong. It wasn’t the whole baby thing like everyone thought, their marriage had been going to shambles for way longer than they’d been trying for kids. If they were being honest with themselves (which they never were) they’d been trying to have kids to save their marriage.
“Sir” The man working asked “Where you going?”
“Malfoy Manor” Ron answered, the man sighed but kept his thoughts to himself. The bus took off at breakneck speed and before Ron could even say anything else they came to a sudden stop that sent him smashing to the floor. He growled in irritation before standing, dusting himself off and then continuing off the bus and towards the gates hiding Malfoy manor. He opened the gates and walked through, made his way up the pebbled driveway, reaching the larger stone walkway and then the steps and raised his fist to knock but it was thrown open by a tiny elf in a maids uniform.
“Can I help you, sir?” She spoke briskly.
“Can I talk to Hermione Granger, please?” Ron asked.
“And who is calling for her, sir?” Kippy asked.
“Ron Weasley” He answered “Tell her it’s important”
“Come in” Kippy said, frowning at him. She knew who he was and wasn’t very happy to see him, it had been a rough start but in the two months that Hermione had been living there Kippy learned to like her if for no other reason than because she made Master Malfoy happy.
“Is she in?” Ron asked as they walked in.
“She is” Kippy answered, as she led him to the bottom of the stairs “I believe she and master Malfoy are still in bed” She shrugged her tiny shoulders “Rough night” It was several minutes before he heard two sets of footsteps coming down the stairs.
“Ron?” Hermione asked “What are you doing here?” Draco stood behind her with a look of intense dislike on his face but also he looked a bit threatening.
“I’ve been working for Chief Warlock Height” Ron said, he was uncomfortable “Can we sit somewhere, this may be a longer meeting than either of us planned”
“Let’s go in to the living room” Hermione led the way but the stiff set of her shoulders told both males that she was uncomfortable.
“Height asked me to investigate these half-breed orphanages” Ron said after they took their seats “I thought that he wanted me to check on the welfare of the children, maybe take inventory of what they need…typical stuff like that”
“But it wasn’t?” Hermione asked.
“No” He shook his head “Look, I went there…to numerous orphanages. They were all empty, every one of the kids were gone, there was nothing left but the last one I checked out…I found some papers” He took a tiny file out of his pocket and tapped it with his wand making it bigger in his hand “It was the only one with papers, when he sent me out the first time he told me that I was to bring him back any papers that I thought would be important…I guess that should have tipped me off”
“Not shit” Draco muttered, Ron eyes darkened considerably but Hermione slapped the table top.
“You had your meeting with Height, right” Hermione asked and he nodded “So why do you still have the papers?”
“They’re receipts, Hermione” Ron said, holding the file out “Look…people bought the children” He flung the file opened and pointed at the bottom of one of the receipts “Look who signed off on the purchase”
“Holy shit” Hermione breathed “Arzodius Height” She looked at Draco, her eyes widened almost comically “That crooked bastard”
“Why bring this to Hermione” Draco asked, skeptically “Why not hand it over to your boss…or are you here on his orders?”
“No…” Ron glared at him “I wasn’t sure what to do, giving it him just felt like handing Harry over to Voldemort, I talked with my father about what he’d do and he told me that I should bring this to you, Hermione”
“Ron, could you excuse us for a moment?” Hermione asked and he nodded. Hermione led Draco out of the room and in to the dining room where they could be alone, she sighed and looked at him.
“That is the type of information that we could use” Hermione said “But…”
“But we don’t trust him” Draco said “How do you suggest we figure it out”
“Veritaserum” Hermione said “I’ll Floo Harry and he can get the potion from the office, today will be the best time for that, less people in the office”
“I’ll contact him now” Draco said “You can…” He looked irritated for a second “I don’t suppose you’ll stay here if I ask, will you?”
“Not a chance” She answered, Hermione started to walk to the door but Draco caught her hand.
“If he tries anything” He warned “I’ll kill him”
“I’m counting on it” She smiled and he leaned forward pressing his lips against her cheek, making her smile warmly at him, Hermione went back in to the living room area and chatted with Ron about this and that.
“So” Ron said, his tone was being forced to sound normal and unaffected “You and Malfoy, huh?”
“Holy Merlin” Hermione laughed “No”
“So you guys weren’t in his bedroom when I got here?” Ron asked “After a ‘rough’ night?” Hermione tilted her head a little “Yeah, the house-elf told me”
“Kippy” Hermione said, she dropped her head back and laughed “No, we weren’t in bed together. I was in the office and he was in his bedroom…alone”
“Then why…?” Ron asked with a laugh of his own awkward laugh.
“I think she worried that you were coming here to charm me away from Draco” Hermione answered “I’ve changed a lot of things here”
“I bet” He laughed, he lowered his gaze to his hands “I wanted you to fail, I wanted to see you doing horribly when I left you”
“Why?” Hermione asked, tears filling her eyes at his harsh words even if she could hear the emotion in them.
“Because it meant that you needed me for once” Ron admitted, his ears going red and his eyes trained on the floor “Instead of me always needing you, I wanted you to beg me to take you back, to love you again but you landed on your feet as usual and I…” He gave a humorless chuckle “Am exactly where I always end up”
“Harry’s here” Draco said from the doorway “He brought the potion”
Hermione decided to leave the guys alone. Even if the potion proves that Ron is lying and he’s here on some mission for Height to do whatever the asshole thought he needed to do these were still receipts that claimed people were buying half-breeds. She went to her room and emptied the file on to her bed, she picked them up over and over again. Usually nameless, some of them were too faded to read, over and over again the papers all said the very same thing.
Name: N/A
Age: 52
Status: Pureblooded
Sex: Male
Purchase: One half-breed female werewolf child.
Price: 200 Galleons
Childs age: 10
The ages changed and the status’s bounced between half-blood to pureblood. About 80% of them were male and most of them were buying little girls between the ages of 8-16. There was only one reason that they would want to buy little girls and the thought had her running to her bathroom and emptying her stomachs contents in to her toilet. She leaned against the counter, drawing her knees up and resting her forehead on her kneecaps and started sobbing. A part of her was hoping that those receipts weren’t real, that this was all some sort of ploy invented by Height to make her look crazy. The door to her bedroom opened and she looked up, seeing Draco standing there looking at her.
“Tell me that it’s all fake” Hermione begged him through her tears “Please, tell me that Ron was lying and those are all fake”
“I’m sorry” Draco whispered and Hermione lowered her head to her knees again sobbing loudly, he sat down next to her and pulled her against his side.
“They were just children, Draco” She sobbed, her hands shook and he hugged her closer, turning her head so that she was looking at him.
“I know that they were children” Draco said “But as Andromeda said, they were trying to pick up Teddy when he was a baby and people have been snatching half-breed children left and right…we can save them”
“I know” Hermione sniffled, she stood and walked in to her room and sat on the bed, pulling some more receipts towards her. Draco sat down on the other side and started to go through the papers as well, he sighed and shook his head.
“Harry is bringing Weasel home” Draco told her after a few moments “This is terrible” He held one of the receipts up “This girl was only seventeen” He shook his head.
“Can I see that?” She asked, holding out her hand to him and he handed it to her.
Name: Pearing
Age: 35
Status: Pureblood
Sex: Male
Purchase: One female half-breed Vampire Child (only one of her kind)
Price: 3,000 Galleons
Childs Age: 17
“It’s her” Hermione breathed “It’s Olivia Spear!”
“Who is Olivia Spear?” Draco asked, Hermione gave an annoyed huff and quickly told him about the Knight Bus driver how his wife had been bitten by a Vampire and how four months after the bite Olivia had been born. Only one of her kind, a rare half-breed indeed, it worried Hermione what the creep that purchased her had done to her. And she wondered if she was still alive.
“Pearing” Hermione said “Do you know that name at all?”
“I know it” Draco said “They are disgustingly rich” He snorted to himself “Richer than the Malfoys”
“I thought that the Malfoy family was the richest family in England” Hermione pointed out “But if they’re richer than you that’s not entirely true”
“We are the richest family in England” He snorted to himself “I guess I can say that I am the richest person in England…just me now”
“Okay…” Hermione said “Pearing…?”
“They’re a rich American family” He answered her “35 year old male…it’s likely Darren Pearing”
“What do you know about him?” Hermione asked but he shrugged.
“Not much” He answered “I met the family when I was fifteen over the summer when they came here, my mother wanted me to date their daughter, Holly” He leaned back a little “They were a nice family, my father didn’t like them because they weren’t in to the war…kept comparing Voldemort to a muggle man named Hilter or something”
“Hitler” Hermione said “Yeah, he and Voldemort had a lot in common”
“Why would they buy a half-breed?” Hermione asked “Unless they’re creeps”
“I don’t know” Draco said with a small smile “But if we play our cards right, I can contact them and maybe they’ll come visit”
“Good!” Hermione smiled, leaned over and kissed him “Thank you”
A/N: I hope that you like this. Tell me what you think about this chapter. As you can tell Ron isn’t exactly a bad guy, he’s just an asshole but not a truly horrible person. Please Review.
