Chapter 7
~The First Reveal~
“So before I start asking questions, Fawkes arrived just before I came in here,” Ginny’s voice was full of mirth. She handed a small envelope to the guard standing closest to Harry. “Does she still not know?” The guard shook his head no. “How do you explain your absences?”
“Let’s take this elsewhere,” Harry warned before the guard had a chance to answer. “We don’t want our surprise to come out earlier than intended, yeah?” He turned to Minerva who was cleaning herself up near the door. “Please inform us when she wakes. And you can play, but no killing. You can return to the school when we get back.”
“Yes, my Lord,” Minerva answered, cleaning herself up from her latest task.
Harry and Ginny left the rotunda followed closely by the guard. Not a word was spoken between the trio as they snaked their way through seemingly empty halls. Before long, they were standing in front of ornate wooden doors with gleaming bronze handles. With a quick flick of Harry’s wrist, the doors opened into a beautifully furnished room. A fire blazing in the hearth was the only light source before another flick of Harry’s wrist caused the elaborate candelabra to come to life. As the trio moved to the center of the room, the doors closed behind them and wards sprang up to block anyone else's entrance.
“It’s safe now,” Harry breathed as he sat in a smooth leather chair.
“Thank Salazar,” Ginny replied, letting out a breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding. She glared at the person sitting beside her. “Now answer my question: how does she still not now?”
“Because she doesn’t need to know yet, Gin,” Ronald Weasley retorted as he shrugged out of his robe. “How do you think she’s going to take it if she knows that I’m on Harry’s side, especially after learning of the contract?”
“Well, she’s going to need to know something soon,” Ginny snapped, summing a bottle of wine and three glasses. “Severus and Minerva successfully completed the task tonight. Harry can now enter her mind whenever he wants to.”
Ron shot a stunned look at Harry before speaking.
“So that note is from her then?” he asked, reaching for the envelope Ginny offered him and breaking the seal.
“Yes, it is,” Harry answered with a ghost of a smile as he poured himself some wine. “She needs to speak with Ron about something...important.” Harry chuckled as Ron looked up at him in fear. “Don’t worry, old friend, everything is going exactly the way we planned it.” Harry looked up at his oldest friend. “When does she want to meet?”
“As soon as possible,” Ron answered, slumping in his chair and pinching the bridge of his nose. “Most likely tonight, which means I need to leave when McGonagall does.”
“That’s fine,” Harry shrugged, quickly downing his wine. “That will give you the chance to find out her news and have a talk with her.” Harry’s eyes smoldered as he looked up at his best friend. “Just be careful, though, because Albus still has her wrapped around his bony little finger. We don’t need him getting in the way of our plans.”
“After what I placed in her bag, that may not be the case much longer,” a calculating grin spread across Ginny’s face.
“What do you mean, Gin?” Harry asked, confusion filling his face.
“Let’s just say my research has paid off,” Gin smirked, crossing her arms in front of herself. “It took longer than I had hoped, but I finally found the receipt….paid in full with interest....with Dumbledore as a witness”
“WHAT?” Harry roared, shooting out of his chair. The fire in the hearth exploded embers across the room and up the flue. “If it was paid in full and then some, why was the contract enacted?”
"Probably because a certain someone tried very hard to make this receipt disappear," Ginny explained, leaning back in her chair. “I had to dig through thousands of receipts just to find this one. We can thank our lucky stars that Gringotts never throws anything away.”
"If the payment was made, why was the contract enacted?" Harry repeated his earlier question slowly, venom filling his voice.
"I don’t know!" Ginny exclaimed, crossing her arms. "Probably as another means to control you. He probably thought that with the contact in place, he could force you to marry for obligation rather than love." A low growl from Harry made her raise an eyebrow. "You don't actually love Pansy, do you?"
"No, of course not," Harry snarled as he slammed his glass on the desk. "But to know that the contact was enacted because of that arsehole? And that it kept me from the one that I do love? That alone makes me want to kill him here and now."
“Believe me, Harry, I know it does,” Ginny smiled as she put her hand over his. “It makes me want to do the same thing, but right now we have to be patient. I assure you, he’ll get his comeuppance.” A small snort to her side made Ginny turn her head. “What, Ron?”
“It doesn’t make sense,” Ron’s quiet voice was barely able to be heard over the fire. “The debt was paid years ago, Dumbledore signed as a witness that the debt was paid, but then made the receipt vanish in order to basically enslave Pansy to Harry? It makes me wonder what Lord Parkinson has on Dumbledore that made Dumbledore resort to this.”
“What did the goblins say when you showed them the receipt?” Harry asked Ginny, his earlier anger tempered.
“They said that they needed to check the authenticity of the document and that they couldn’t do that until the Ministry opens tomorrow,” Ginny answered, downing another glass of wine. “Once they determine that, the contract will be considered null and void.”
“So we’re basically stuck until morning?” Harry snarled, pounding his fist on the desk. His anger was radiating off of him in waves and his hair was alight with uncontrolled magic. “Gods, I wish that I could summon that bastard here so I can just kill him outright!”
“Harry, please calm down,” Ginny whispered, gently placing her hand over his. “You’ll wake her if you don’t.”
“If you haven’t already,” Ron softly warned.
The opening of the door made his next works die on his lips.
“Too late,” the person standing in the door frame commented. “I could feel your anxiety and anger from the bedroom.”
“Hermione, love, I apologize,” Harry rose to meet her. He gently took her in his arms, planted a soft kiss on her temple, and placed a hand on her swollen stomach. “I truly did not mean to disturb you.”
“Oh, you didn’t disturb me so much as you disturbed her,” Hermione smiled, motioning to her stomach. “She is an empath, you know. Every time you feel something deeply, she starts moving around like crazy and projecting your feelings. So what’s going on?”
“Ginny found the receipt,” Harry said simply. She stiffened beside him. “The debt was paid, with interest...and Dumbledore signed as witness.”
“You can’t be - he wouldn’t - why would he -” Hermione started asking several questions at once. She could feel her own anger building. Her curly hair started sparking with magic and small jolts of lightning sparked from her fingertips. Her eyes flashed bright gold with anger. Harry placed his hand on the small of her back and started whispering in her ear.
“Hermione, love, I know you’re angry,” Harry whispered, gently massaging her back. “Please relax, love. I’m here, I’m right here.”
It took several deep long breaths and Harry whispering platitudes in her ear before her breathing slowly returned to normal. Her hair stopped sparking and her eyes returned to their normal chocolate brown color, flecked with only pinpoints of gold. Her eyes gently closed as she rubbed her stomach. Harry recognized the signs of her communicating with their child and let her be. When her eyes reopened, even the smallest fleck of gold had disappeared.
“Alright now, Mia?” Ginny asked softly, her eyes full of worry for her closest friend.
“Alright now, Gin,” Hermione smiled at Ginny’s use of her rarely used nickname. Ginny was also the only person who was allowed to use it.
“We’ll figure out what to do in the morning,” Harry said firmly, cleaning the glasses and desk of the mess they had made. “Right now, we need to check on our...guest.”
“Oh, she’s awake - and fuming,” Hermione chuckled, gazing up at Harry lovingly. “Just imagine how much more she’ll be fuming once she realizes that me and Ron are here with you.” Harry grimaced, not wanting her to see the carnage that was waiting. She smiled knowingly, much like Luna did. “Relax, my love, I already know about Lucius and Percy and I have to say, I approve of your addition of Narcissa. She and I will have much to discuss, especially once this little one makes her appearance.”
“Just don’t be surprised when you see Minerva,” Harry gently warned, knowing arguing with her was moot.
“Was she finally successful in her half transformation?” she asked, taking Harry by surprise. She smiled cheekily. “Yes, love, I knew about that. I was the one that offered to help her research it.”
“You little minx,” he smiled down at his first love. A frown slowly replaced the smile as he started thinking. He had long ago mastered Occlumency, but the witch by his side was a natural Legilemens, so her next statement was not a surprise to him.
“I think Ron and I should go in with coverings, and me with a glamour to mask my stomach,” she said, eyeing the door that stood in front of her. “Goad the matriarch into saying something about Ron or me - or both - and we’ll reveal ourselves. She may pass out again,” she mused. “But I think Ron and Ginny should be the ones to have the pleasure of ending her.”
“Oh that would be too perfect,” Ronald barked out a laugh. He put his hood back up to completely hide himself. Hermione transfigured her cloak hood to have a full mask to shield herself and cast a glamour to hide her pregnancy. Harry and Ginny took the lead, with Harmione and Ron following close behind.
“Hello, Molly, nice to see you’re awake again,” Harry spat with anger. He turned his head toward Minerva. “Minerva, if you would, please stay a while longer. We have a surprise for the Weasley matriarch.”
“I don’t want anything from the likes of you Harry Potter!” Molly shrieked, trying to fight the cuffs that held her. “You already stole and soiled my daughter against me! You killed my son and turned another against me! Thank the gods Ron and Hermione aren’t here; they’d be so disappointed and disgusted with the person you’ve become!”
“I have a confession to make,” Harry’s icy voice rang through the room as he cast another spell to silence the Weasley harpy once more. “I’ve not been entirely truthful about something. You see, I know where Ron is,” Molly’s eyes flashed with fear. “And I’ve asked him to join up with me. I know that -”
“Ron would never join you!” Molly’s intense emotional state had broken through the silencing spell. “He’s a good boy who follows Dumbledore!”
“Yeah, about that,” a voice from behind Harry spoke up. Ron’s red hair flashed into view.
“Hello, Mother,” Ron snarled as he brandished his wand and pointed it towards his mother. “How...nice...to see you again.”
