"Those are our orders, and it is our full intention to carry them out to the best of our ability," he said as he and Harry stood stiffly at attention before the desk. Severus stood off to one side, frowning deeply as he watched what was happening between the boys and Captain Ardyn. "Whether you like it or not, which it is obvious that you don't, Harry and I are here to stay until Tom Riddle and those that work for, and WITH him, are dealt with. One way or the other."
"If I were you, I wouldn't go placing any bets on that--" he snapped at them.
"You're NOT me," he interrupted, "and I would," he snapped right back.
"So would I," Harry spoke up. "How much would you care to wager, Captain, that we will be staying?"
Severus had to smile, admitting to himself that the boys were doing quite well in holding their own against the opposition that was Captain Ardyn Grenville. "Now is hardly the time for betting, Harry?"
"Sure it is, Sev," he glanced back at him with an amused smirk quirking his lips. "He says he wouldn't place any bets on our staying, I'm saying we would." An arch to his midnight brow. "Wouldn't you?"
He chuckled. "I would at that, brat. The bosses made their orders very clear."
Ardyn frowned at them and went on as if he had never been interrupted. "Just yet, Lieutenant. If I have any say in the matter at all, I will be putting the two of you back on that shuttle to Caprica before the sun sets."
"Ah...well, fortunately for us, you DON'T have a say," was all but snarled, which earned him a clearing of a throat from Severus. Harry turned his head, emerald eyes sparkling with his inner lightning. Slowly, he calmed, returning his attention back to Ardyn. "As the Admiral, Commander Thorin, Lt. Commander Dacian, and Lt. Colonel Gabriel were the ones to send us here, I doubt very much they'll recall us without a very good reason."
Ardyn looked up from the papers he had been handed by Severus in a sealed envelope marked as top secret. Inside he had found two files, one with each of their names on it. Reports, he thought, opening the first file to see the written words.
As he thought.
These were the reports of what had happened on Virgon. Looking at each of the brothers, he heard the snap of anger in both their voices, the air around them seeming to crackle with barely suppressed electricity. There was also a great deal of bitterness in Roark's tone. He was about to say something to the both of them when his comm beeped an incoming call, and after hitting accept, his screen lit.
"Good afternoon, Captain Ardyn."
"Good morning to you, Major Raphael," he answered in surprise. "I'm sorry, Sir, I was expecting--"
"Someone else, I'm sure. Dacian and Gabriel are in a meeting with Admiral Roark, Commander Thorin, and President Adar. I was asked to take your call. I trust, Captain, that Lt,'s Hadrian and Roark have arrived with Healer-Lt. Colonel Severus?"
"They have, which is why I've called to speak with the Admiral, the Commander, the Lt. Commander, and the Lt. Colonel."
"Well then, I'm sorry. As I said they are in a closed meeting with President Adar and Admiral Malfoy, Jenkins, and Maxwell. I do hope, Ardyn, that nothing has happened to them. I know quite a few people who would be extremely upset should anything happen to the boys, or to Severus."
Closed meeting with the President? Roark thought as he glanced over at Harry and Severus, both looking just as surprised as he was. Closed meetings with the High Command of the Colonial Armed Services and the President meant only one thing.
Something big was happening. or was about to happen. What it could be, none of them knew, but they sure wanted to.
"They're fine, Raph," he heard him say, turning his attention back to him, "and here in my office."
A smile. "Ah...Good. Then what seems to be the problem?"
"The problem is that they never should have been sent here in the first place. I'm quite sure you are aware of our situation here?"
"I am," he replied with a deep frown, his tone cooling considerably as blue eyes hardened to chips of ice. "We are all VERY aware of the situation there, Captain. Our brother...yes, yes, Schy," he turned his head. "I know, do stop poking at me, if you please," his attention returned to the screen and Ardyn, "and cousin is, after all, dead."
"Then you know just how precarious at best, and at worst how unstable and dangerous our situation here is. It is certainly no place for two inexperienced warriors to be. Have them recalled, Raph. Send us someone with a lot more experience to replace Kale."
"Inexperience?!" came Schyler's disbelieving exclamation, his handsome face appearing on the screen, having pushed Raphael aside a bit. "Did you even READ those files we sent to you?!"
"Obviously he hasn't," Raphael said, his frown more pronounced now. "I'm afraid we can't do that, Captain. There IS no one else. We've not only HEARD their reports about what happened on Virgon, but READ them, and as we see it, neither of them is as inexperienced as you seem to think they are. It is also our belief that they have all the skills necessary to see that filth that is Riddle's organization brought down. To see him captured, and brought to justice."
"Agreed," came from Schyler. "They work exceptionally well together and know what they must do. You and your people are to work with them...help them in any way needed."
"But, Sir, I don't think--"
"What you think is irrelevant at this point, Captain Ardyn. Hadrian and Roark will be remaining on Aquaria until the job we sent them there to do is completed. Hello Harry, Rory. Severus, keep an eye on the boys. Take care of them."
"As best as I can, Raph."
"And DO be sure to tell the boys that we love them as soon as you see them. Tell them they had better contact us soon, or they will not like the consequences."
Chuckles sounded from the Peverell Potter brothers. "We'll tell them, Raph."
The screen went black then as the call was disconnected.
