Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter that is J.K. Rowling's honor. Making no money, just enjoying writing. |
I apologize most profusely for taking a small eternity to get back to this. RL has been more than a little on the hectic side and I've had little time to breathe much less put fingers to keyboard for entertainment purposes. I will be making the very serious effort to finish this and the other stories I have neglected. Thank you all for being patient. I hope you enjoy.

Hermione eyed the fake warily. The very calm and practical voice in her head said that putting away her wand was an even worse idea than following the false Liren out her in the first place. But there was another voice that wondered if maybe, just maybe it would be a world of fun to cause him pain.
“Tsk! I can see you're hesitant, little auror,” the fake said with a serene smile. “I'll make it easier on you to decide. Catch, Lucius.”
He tossed the ball of energy into the forcecage. Lucius caught it on reflex more than anything else. It held together in an almost solid mass, still crackling and sparking ominously though as Lucius held onto it carefully.
“Don't look so shocked, Lucius. Things can go in with no trouble. It's the getting them out again that's more than a little complicated,” the fake said, smiling wider.
Hermione's eyes narrowed and she watched the fake closely for any move. Any twitch of his hands that might indicate he was about to fire something off at either her or Lucius again.
The smirk on the false Liren's face grew a bit as he and Hermione were suddenly sealed within a glowing sphere of magick. “Now, little auror, if you've quite exhausted your excuses. I think I've been very patient with you, all things considered. Do keep in mind this is no Wizard's duel. I have no time nor patience for the idiotic rules those adhere to.”
Hermione nodded grimly and put her wand away, all the while searching for a proper opening.
Liren sidestepped a bit, taking her measure as well, calculating. “Well, little auror, shall we dance? I'll even allow you to have the first strike.”
“How magnanimous of you,” she said, shifting to the balls of her feet in order to move better.
Almost before she could blink the false Liren had rushed her, dropped to one knee and planted a fist firmly into her solar plexus. The blow sent her flying backward and she landed hard on her back, gasping for breath.
“What happened to letting her have the first strike?” Lucius snarled from his confinement.
The fake laughed. “Simple enough to answer. I lied,” he said sweetly.
While the Liren clone was distracted by Lucius, Hermione had rolled up into a modified handstand and her heel connected with the fake's cheekbone. He staggered sideways, trying to regain his balance and was at least partially successful, only hitting his knees. Hermione followed, putting her knee into his chin.
The Liren fake offered her a slightly bloody smile before surging to his feet only to drop back down into a crouch. One foot swung out and around behind Hermione, catching the back of her knee and sending her to the ground again.
Hermione rolled herself into a ball, knees tucked up against her chest. When the Liren clone moved to attack her again, she rolled backward onto her shoulders and put both feet into his chest, sending him flying.
He managed to catch himself after hitting the ground hard and rolling only once. He was back on his feet in short order but so was Hermione.
“Ah, I see now,” he said with a tiny smile.
“What exactly do you see?” she questioned, shifting slightly, looking for an opening in his stance.
He laughed. “Capoeria. How appropriate that one who should have been a slave to her betters knows the martial arts of slaves. In fact, I think I should make you one for my amusement. A slave that is.”
“Really? I thought you were planning to kill me to torture Lucius.”
“Oh, I was but I think keeping you chained at my feet so Lucius can watch you be a pet is so much more fun.”
“I don't fancy I'd make a very good pet,” Hermione said, still looking for a good opening. But he shifted and wove around to counter her every possible move.
At that point, the clouds that had been covering part of the moon shifted. This allowed her to see much more clearly. She noticed the ends of the Liren fake's hair beginning to darken and grow several inches.
She smirked at him and he lifted an eyebrow in question.
She smiled outright at that. “I think we'll see who you really are very soon.”
