Chapter 75: To Purity and Honor
Hermione had always been one to think logically in any situation. Hermione was also known as one that let her heart lead her too. Now when Sirius was ushering her through Malfoy Manor to head back to the safe house, she secretly did not want to go. However, logically she knew that she should go back to a safe haven for the safety of both of her children, but her heart was telling her she needed to stay to fight alongside the love of her life. This same track had been playing through her mind for the past thirty-six hours. Even with her narrow escape from the resident psycho, Bellatrix Lestrange, the battle was playing out between her mind and her heart.
Hermione stopped to lean against the wall her head in her hands.
"What's wrong? Did my dear cousin hurt you more than you are showing?" Sirius stopped, his hands reaching out to tilt her head up, his eyes meeting hers.
"No, I'm not hurt, but…I'm just not sure I should leave."
Sirius gave a huge sigh and rolled his eyes, "Oh Gods! Here we are again with this same conversation between us." His hand cradled her chin, "You are the most stubborn woman I've ever met in my life. That's saying something considering one of my best friends is Lily Potter."
Hermione tried to stifle her laughter, "I find that a very high compliment being compared to Lily as you well know."
"I need to go back to the battle Hermione, it would make it easier to go off and fight if I knew that you were safe."
"Sirius, I know where I should go, but I'm having a hard time leaving people I love back here."
Her implied words made him take a step back. Was she saying what he thought? He didn't have time to overthink her words. Nevertheless, he knew whom her heart truly belonged to and he needed to show her that he'd accepted her choice, even though deep down he would always love her.
"Hermione, I'm not the one to tell you what to do any more. You made your choice." Acting like the humorous "friend" that she probably saw him as, Sirius winked at her and grinned.
"I need to leave you now. It will be easier for me not knowing what you decide to do." He leaned in to softly kiss her forehead and envelop her in a tight hug. "Just be safe."
Hermione tried hard not to cry, "You'll always be my friend." Her genuine smile as she hugged him back made Sirius give one last sigh.
"If you ever get tired of that Dark Lord of yours, I'll only be a floo call away." His hand smoothed down the side of her cheek, and with one more wink, Sirius Black left Hermione standing alone leaning against a cream colored wall in Malfoy Manor.

The Dark Lord rallied his Death Eaters as they all cheered after a rousing speech. Tom wanted this to end so he could continue his life with Hermione and his children. Then, with his Death Eaters they would change their world to one he had been striving towards most of his life. He'd already spent too much time apart from Hermione and Thomas, and now with a new child coming, he wasn't willing to sacrifice more of his life away from them.
"Just remember, you may take out any and all of The Order, but you must leave Dumbledore for me. That wizard has threatened me and those I care about for way too long. The moment has finally arrived for him to die. Do your own missions, but let me do mine. I will not be forgiving to anyone that would take this honor anyway from me."
Looking around at all of the faces of his followers he could see that all of them were listening closely to him, even the dimwitted among them. He looked at each one of them, making sure they realized how serious he was right now. The fierce look on his face should frighten them enough to obey his orders.
The shouts could be heard from the front of the manor as The Order rallied their own troops. The Death Eaters all grinned as they heard the other side. They knew who was stronger and which side had more fighters, and it wasn't the side of the Light. Tom smirked, as he knew what they were thinking. It was no surprise that The Order had already lost many people and this day would only continue to add up their losses. It was a good day for victory and the day that Dumbledore would finally die.
"To purity and honor!" Tom shouted as his wand hand shot high in the air, with his followers doing the same. He hoped that their shouts of unity put the fear of death in their enemy.
Their numbers split, as one group surged forward and the other went circling out the back and headed to the front of the manor to corner the enemy in with no way to retreat. Once they were trapped, they would realize their foolishness in following someone like that idiot and egotistical old fool. Tom strutted forward with his head held high and a smile on his face, looking forward to a huge victory party later.

Hermione's head peeked around the corner when she heard the Death Eaters leave. She felt that same excitement rush through her as The Dark Lord's many followers had also shown. They could all feel the taste of triumph within their grasp. The only thing that niggled inside of her was that she also wanted to be the one to permanently put Dumbledore out of commission. That bastard has stolen many wonderful moments away from Tom and Hermione. It truly wasn't fair that Tom wanted to be the only one that could harm him in this battle. The mother bear inside of her rose up when she thought of how the arse had ordered that her son be killed. Hermione's teeth started grinding as she thought about how she had taken care of those assigned to assassinate her son. How foolish of them and Dumbledore! She had cautioned him to stay away from her and Thomas, but he foolishly had not heeded her warnings.
"The bloody bugger," Hermione spat out as she marched down the hallway and around the corner. The more she thought about the old wizard, the angrier she became. To hell with Tom's orders! She would find some way to help Tom end Dumbledore's reign of terror.

Sirius made sure to hide in an alcove where he could watch the battle. He didn't want to fight for Dumbledore, but he sure didn't want to fall victim to a Death Eater's curse either. If nothing else, he was a survivor. In this sense he could have easily been a Slytherin.
Making sure to cast a Disillusionment spell and a Notice-Me-Not charm on himself, he settled back for the show. His main plan was also to hopefully cause a little bit of mayhem while tripping up Dumbledore. Anyone who would send a kill order out on an infant didn't deserve to live. That had been the final straw in Sirius's book when it came to listening and following Dumbledore. Now he sat back getting comfortable. All he needed was a smoke and a nice bottle of Firewhiskey, and he'd really be able to enjoy watching Dumbledore get what he truly deserved.

"Tom Riddle, I call you out! Come face me like a true wizard in battle." Dumbledore strode forward with his chest puffed out. "No more hiding in the bowels of this evil manor. Come face your comeuppance." The smarmy look on his face almost made Tom laugh out loud.
What a blowhard. This man was always full of big words. It was almost sickening to listen to the arse.
"Lucius," Tom whispered over to his right, "Make sure that the second party is ready in attack formation and then we let the fireworks happen. When I hear your welcome from the front, that will be our sign to attack."
"Yes, my Lord. I'm sure that Bella has her people ready and waiting for us." Lucius gave a small grin. The two men nodded to one another and Lucius left quietly to fulfill the order.
Tom knew that he wanted to attack fast and get this over with. His people had enjoyed messing with The Order earlier and he couldn't disallow letting them have their fun. Now he was tired of waiting around and wanted to finish this.
A loud bang and shouting from the front of the manor was their signal to move. Tom, with over a hundred Death Eaters behind him and another hundred more with Bella and Lucius, were ready to fight. The Order had no idea what was about to hit them, and that was exactly the way that he'd wanted this to all go down. Once Dumbledore was dead, he'd give the others a chance to surrender and join his side. If they refused, they'd either die or be taken prisoner. The dungeons down below were empty and waiting to be filled if necessary.
"Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, prepare to die," Tom's voice thundered out as he ran into the main hall where The Order had assembled.
"Oh it shan't be me that dies this day Tom Riddle Junior. You and your family will lie in the grave, by my hand, before the sun sets." Once again the smugness that made Tom bristle, shone on Dumbledore's face.
"Avada Kadavra," both wizards shouted out as they sent the curses towards the other. With age and skill, the curses were both easily blocked. This showdown would come down to whoever became distracted the first. The rest of the fighters were in awe of the blatant strength shown by the most powerful wizards in the wizarding world.
As the two leaders continued sending curses to one another, fighters from both sides were sending curses out. Both dark and light wizards were falling in battle. Bellatrix's shrill cackle could be heard ringing through the room as she shot off a curse that burned up an Auror.
The Dark Lord and Dumbledore kept circling around each other, waiting and watching for an opening that neither one was giving up.
"So how is your son doing Tom?" Dumbledore asked casually as he shot off a rather dark curse for someone who proudly proclaimed himself to be the leader of "The Light" side.
Tom knew what the man was implying after what Hermione had told him had happened earlier. "My son is somewhere safe…and alive old man." He sneered at the wizard. "Your plan to kill my son failed."
The look of shock on Dumbledore's face made Tom gleeful. He had never been happier at that moment to have a witch like Hermione in his life. She had fought off the would-be assassins and saved their son.
Tom's pronouncement was all he needed for Dumbledore to let down his guard. "Crucio" he shouted out. He wanted to make the wizard suffer before killing him. Dumbledore fell to his knees and his body shook from the curse. Tom shouted out the words again, "Crucio," putting all of his deep hatred into making the curse as painful as possible and holding it out longer than the time before.
"No," a member of The Order shouted out sending a mild curse to the man holding his leader hostage to the curse. The cures hit Tom sending him backwards which allowed Dumbledore to stand up and gather his wits together.
Dumbledore's face was red as he glared at the man who had saved him. "I said that Voldemort is mine." He screamed as his body still shook from the Crucios.
Tom tried to get up but Dumbledore shot off a spell blasting him backwards again. The Dark Lord's head hit the floor and a loud gasp was heard from the side of the room.
Dumbledore's laugh could be heard by all, "It's time to rid the world of this evil creature known as Lord Voldemort." His flair for the dramatic took over as he raised his wand for one final blow.
Hermione came running out of hiding as she had been watching the fight. Her wand was up as she stopped in front of Tom shielding his body, and scowled at Dumbledore, "Never!"

I love ending the chapters at times like this! Yes, that's an evil cackle much like one you'd hear from Bellatrix. I must admit, I truly do keep trying to end this story but the characters keep adding to the story and there's nothing I can do about it. When they talk, they must be heard. Any reviews left would be much appreciated!
