Chapter Seven: More Talking
~*~
"I'm glad you're here again," Remus whispered as he studied Sirius carefully. "You look good, Siri."
Sirius smiled slightly. "Thanks. It's good to be back. Even if I still don't understand how or why it happened."
Remus smirked. "Only Dumbledore seems to know what's going on. Hopefully, he'll clue the rest of us in sometime soon."
"No kidding," Sirius remarked. "How have you been? I hear you're teaching again."
"I've been fine, I suppose," Remus replied. "It was hard after you died. But yes, I am teaching again, which has been wonderful for me. It helps me keep my mind off of things and at the same time, I get to see Harry everyday."
Sirius nodded his head in understanding. "He's grown up a lot, hasn't he?"
"Indeed he has. I suppose you know all about Draco?"
Sirius grinned, "Of course. He told me right off."
Remus laughed. "They're a cute couple. I'm glad they're together."
"Me, too," Sirius looked thoughtful for a moment. "Rem?"
"Hmm?"
"Does Harry know about you and Lily?" Sirius asked softly.
Remus stared at Sirius with wide amber eyes. "I didn't tell him. I couldn't do that to him."
"Did he talk to you before-"
"Yes. And I told him about you and James. Honestly, Siri, I could tell that he definitely wanted to bring you back. Not that he doesn't love his parents-I know he truly does. But he knows you, and you mean the world to him. I had to tell him about you and James. You both deserve a second chance."
"And you don't?"
"I didn't say that," Remus replied quietly. "But you and James deserve to be together. I'll be fine."
Sirius opened his mouth to speak and then shut it. "Are you ready to see James?"
Remus sighed. "Yes and no. I know him well, Sirius. Not as well as you, but well enough to know that he's going to be angry with me for not believing you were innocent." Remus sighed again and placed his head in his hands.
Sirius gently placed his hand on Remus' back and rubbed it lightly. "Remn't n't berate yourself over something that happened so long ago."
Remus lifted his head and looked into Sirius' sincere blue eyes. "How can you be so calm, Siri? I should have believed you, and I should have trusted you. I should have found a way to get you out of that place! You were innocent, and-"
Sirius took in a deep breath and ran his fingers through his hair. "It was hell, all right? We've been through this before, Remus. I have forgiven you. It's not like your life was that spectacular, either. You've been through a lot, too."
"Not nearly as much as you," Remus murmured sadly.
"Look, Remus, can we just let this go? We've been through all of this before, and I don't want to talk about it again. At least not right now. You need to see James. I promise he'll be happy to see you again, Remus. As am I. You're one of my best friends, and I love you," Sirius whispered as he hugged his friend again.
Remus responded in a tight hug.

"James, love?" Sirius said softly as he sat down on the side of James' bed. "Do you want to talk to Remus now?"
James blinked open his eyes and focused on Sirius for several seconds before speaking. He sat up in bed and smiled. "Is he here?"
Sirius nodded his head. "I just talked with him."
"Did he come on his own or did Harry talk to him?" James asked. An hour earlier, Harry and Draco had left the infirmary, promising to go talk to Remus.
"Harry convinced him to come, I think," Sirius replied.
"And Madam Pomfrey still let him in, despite the fact that we were supposed to be sleeping?" James asked sicalically.
Sirius grinned. "I acted like the poor, innocent ex-convict who desperately wanted to see his old friend. She never can resist it when I do that."
James smiled sadly and pressed his lips against his lover's. "Will you go get Moony?"
"Of course. Do you want me to stay or "
"As much as I want you with me, I think it would be better if I talked with him alone right now," James admitted.
"I understand," Sirius said. "Love you, babe," he murmured with a quick peck on James' forehead.
"Love you, too," James replied as he watched hoverover leave the room.
A few seconds later, Remus entered the room and worriedly looked at his friend.
"Come over closer," James requested. "I can barely see you over there."
Remus nodded and pulled up a chair next to James' bed. "Where are your glasses?"
James smiled, "Don't worry about them." He leaned over and wrapped his arms around Remus. "It's good to see you again, Moony."
Remus felt tears forming in his eyes as he returned the embrace. "I'm glad you're here again, James. I've missed you so much."
The next thirty minutes were spent with the two friends talking, both avoiding the topic of Sirius' imprisonment.

Sirius sighed and got out of bed. He squinted his eyes and looked around the infirmary. Madam Pomfrey was in her quarters, so Sirius hurried out of bed and into his lover's room. He quietly opened the door and walked over to James' bed. Sirius leaned down and gently kissed James' warm lips.
James opened his eyes and wrapped his arms around Sirius' waist. He pulled Sirius down on top of him and passionately kissed his lover.
"You beat me to it," James said as he continued to clutch Sirius' body to his own.
"Hmm?" Sirius murmured. He slowly started to run his fingers through James' unruly hair.
"I was contemplating going to your bed."
"Aww, I see. Well, you shouldn't be up and about, love. You need your rest."
James raised an eyebrow. "Been spending too much time with Madam Pomfrey, eh?"
Sirius laughed and kissed James again. "How did everything go with Remus?"
"Fine," James replied. "Gods, Siri, you're so beautiful."
Sirius snorted and tried to reply, but he once again found James' lips on his own.
Their kiss ended when the door opened and Madam Pomfrey appeared with her hands on her hips. "Gentlemen, you are supposed to be sleeping in separate beds."
Sirius pouted slightly and looked at the nurse. "You know that I still get the nightmares from Azkaban. I will sleep better with James. Please let me stay in here?"
Madam Pomfrey sadly nodded her head. "Make sure you're only sleeping, though-nothing else!"
"Thank you," Sirius replied as he cuddled up next to his lover again.
The nurse nodded her head and exited the room. Sirius smiled at James and winked. "See? I'll always be able to get my way with her."
James looked at his lover with tears in his eyes. "Love, do you still get nightmares?"
"I wouldn't lie, James. I'm not taking what happened to me lightly at all. It was hell on earth, and before I fell through the veil, I often had nightmares about it. It was horrible, and I have never been so scared in my life. But, I figure that if it helps me get my way and be able to stay in your bed, then I may as well use it to my advantage."
James hugged Sirius tightly. "I can't believe you're taking it so well, Siri."
Sirius sighed. "It's not necessarily that I'm taking it well, James. It's just that I I don't know. Sometimes, when I think about it, I feel so sad and depressed, thinking about all of the years of my life gone down the drain. I've lost so much time. I should have bwithwith Harry instead of him having to stay with those bloody muggles. Other times, I feel only anger. Anger at that bastard rat and all of the people who didn't let me have a trial and didn't believe that I was innocent. Anger that people could believe that I would ever have hurt you. Anger that I was fucking innocent and had to live in hell for twelve years. To be honest, my thoughts are always confused when I think about it. Maybe the dementors are partially to blame for that."
James didn't bother to wipe away his tears as he embraced Sirius tightly. The two eventually stopped talking and fell fast asleep in each other's arms.

"So, are we ever going to find out how this happened?" Draco asked curiously. "I mean, it's wonderful that the two of you are back, but I personally would love to know how it happened."
Harry nodded his head in agreement and continued eating his meal.
"Dumbledore said he'd tell us on Sunday," James answered.
"Sunday?" Harry said as he finished swallowing a mouthful of food. "I thought he said he was going to let us know sooner than that."
"So did I," Sirius scowled. "At least we're out of that damned hospital wing now."
Harry laughed, "I'm glad, too. I like your quarters."
"They're huge," Draco commented as he looked around in appreciation. "How long will you be staying here?"
"A while," James replied. "Why? Trying to get rid of us?" he asked playfully.
Harry immediately shook his head, causing everyone else to smile or laugh.
"You two are coming to the quidditch match on Saturday, right?" Draco asked.
"Wouldn't miss it for the world," James replied as Sirius nodded his head.
"I'm sorry you'll have to see Gryffindor lose, but I-"
Harry snorted and gently elbowed his boyfriend. "As if, Drac. Gryffindor always beats Slytherin."
"Always?" Draco asked, raising an eyebrow.
Harry smirked.
