The ice-like voice chilled the three students as they stopped and turned to meet the obsidian eyes of the dreaded Potions Master.
Harry, Ron and Hermione merely stared up at him, not sure of what to say. But before they could even think of an excuse, Pansy Parkinson came running up to them with tears in her eyes.
“Oh, Professor Snape!” she simpered. “She attacked Draco! That stupid Weasel girl attacked Draco! He didn’t even do anything! She just started cursing him and oh Merlin, look at what she did to him!”
The professor let his eyes slide to side to see the floating body of an unconscious Draco Malfoy and felt his upper lip curl. He did a once over, made a few notes of obvious injuries and growled low in his throat.
“Send Mr. Malfoy to the hospital wing and have Madame Pomfery contact his father.” He hissed. “As for Ms. Weasley, put her in my Potions room.”
“Please, Professor, we were just going to send her to Headmaster Dumbledore’s office—” Hermione started, but was cut off.
“Twenty points from Gryffindor for not obeying orders!” Snape boomed. “Now get her into the Potions room now.”
Harry, Ron and Hermione had no other choice but to levitate her body into the empty classroom.
“Now, leave.”
The Potions Master hissed that one word with such loathing that the three scampered away, but Ron lagged behind.
“Really, P-Professor…Malfoy was asking for it…he—”
“DO I LOOK LIKE I NEED AN EXPLANATION MR. WEASLEY?” Snape yelled. “NOW GET OUT!”
Ron could only squeak as he raced out of the door and slammed the door.
The Head of Slytherin paced for a few moments, trying to calm himself down before turning to the Petrified girl.
“I do not know what could ever possess you to attack another student, but 150 points from Gryffindor nonetheless. Now, I am going to release you from this state and you will explain to me just why you’ve made yourself such a prime candidate for expulsion.” He hissed, his hands curling around a stack of papers. “Finite Incantateum.”
Immediately, the red head fell into a nearby chair while Snape resumed his seat at the desk.
“Well, I am waiting for answer, Ms. Weasley.” He snarled after a few moments of silence.
“That bloody git had Neville over a hundred feet in the air! He could’ve been killed! Why is it I am here and that bloody Ferret isn’t?” she snapped, shooting up from her seat.
“Mr. Malfoy is not here because you have given him a conc8ussion along with several broken bones.” He returned, ice lacing his voice. “But, trust me, Ms. Weasley, he will get the punishment he deserves, although I do believe he has suffered enough with your hands.”
“Of course you do! You’re the head of his house!” Ginny pointed out. “And if even if you do punish him, what would the punishment be I wonder? Ten points from Slytherin? Five? One measly day without his precious mirror? Come now, Snape, you can’t expect me to believe you’d punish your star pupil. We all now he’s your favorite!”
“CONTROL your temper, Ms. Weasley!” Snape boomed out.
The red head shut her mouth and soon the teacher and student were trapped in a staring match. At least, they were until the door to the classroom blew open and slammed against the wall.
“What is the meaning of this, Severus? Why is my son in the hospital wing with a concussion?” demanded the familiar voice of Lucius Malfoy. “When I enrolled my son into this establishment, I was under the impression that he would be under a certain amount of protection.”
“And that is undeniable, Lucius, but as it is, it seems as though your sons’ injuries were, more or less, provoked.” Snap answered stiffly.
“Provoked?” Lucius sneered. “And who would be the little hoodlum that dare lay a hand on my son?”
Snape merely stiffened just a little more and let his eyes slip to the side. He fought the urge to smile when Lucius caught sight of the student present in the classroom.
“A girl?” He choked out, splotches of color filling his pale cheeks.
“That’s right, Malfoy.” Ginny hissed, her voice laced with venom. “A girl kicked the shit out of your son. And not just any girl—Arthur Weasley’s daughter.”
She took pride in the way the elder Malfoy’s face flushed bright red. He immediately twirled to stare at Snape.
“This little…bitch…this Weasley laid her dirty hands on my son?” he growled.
“I am not a little bitch!” she snapped back, flashes of red crossing her vision. “And your son got what he bloody deserved! He threw a bloody human being on a winged horse! He should be expelled for half the shit he’s pulled in this school—”
Ginny’s words were cut off as her body was slammed into the wall behind her. She gasped as the sharp rocks dug into her back.
“You stupid little…whore. How dare you put your Mudblood loving hands on my son? Let me guess, you went vying for his attention, but didn’t get it. Is that why you attacked him?” he growled.
“I didn’t attack your stupid son!” she snapped back.
“Just you wait until your daddy hears about this—his precious, darling daughter misbehaving, slutting herself out for the boys of Slytherin…”
“That is enough, Lucius.” Snape suddenly boomed out. “Might I remind you that you are still under inquiry from the Ministry? An incident like this will not help your already tainted record.”
Lucius let out a low growl, but let go of the red-haired student.
“Protecting Weasley’s now, are you, Severus? What will they think of you now?” he threatened.
“That will be a discussion further down the road, Lucius. And you will do well to remember that I know of many skeletons hidden in your closet.” He returned.
The elder Malfoy simply growled once again and headed to the door.
“Fine, take the little slut. But remember, Severus, this will not be easily forgotten.” He hissed, then left the classroom in a swirl of black robes.
Ginny rubbed her neck where his nails had bit into the skin and scowled at his retreating back.
“Blood arse.” She muttered under her breath.
It was only when Snape cleared his throat that she realized he was still in the room.
“Perhaps it would be wise for you to retire to your dormitory.” He stated stiffly.
Ginny only gave him a slight nod as she headed towards the door.
“And Ms. Weasley?”
Ginny stopped and turned to see Snape’s obsidian eyes.
“Another fifty points from Gryffindor for fighting.” He stated.
Ginny held back a scowl. Another nod.
“But ten points to Gryffindor for Draco’s black eye. He’ll be sporting that for a while.”
Ginny turned back and was surprised to see a hint of a smile on the Potions Masters face. But as soon as it had been there, it disappeared and she scurried away before he could change his mind.
