Remus, rarely being the first one up in the morning, crept silently down the stairs, knowing that the teens were still asleep. He made his way to the living room to find Jason passed out on the couch, Hermoine curled up in the chair, and Harry sprawled out on the floor. He let out a silent laugh and turned to head to the kitchen.
He began his morning pot of coffee and scooped the newspaper. He placed himself at the kitchen table and read the articles while he listened to his coffee brewing behind him. The aroma of the brew ran beneath his nose, making his mind clear of anything but the sweet smell.
"Morning, Remus," Remus jumped at the sound of Jason’s voice. Jason took a seat next to Remus and yawned into his hands, displaying how tired he still was.
"Did I wake you?" Remus set the paper down on the table.
"No," Jason replied, sniffing at the air. "The smell of coffee did."
"I just started a pot. You’re welcome to have some when it is finished."
Jason nodded, releasing another yawn.
"What time did you guys fall asleep?"
"A little after you and Dad stopped going at it."
Remus winced. "Sorry. I didn’t think that we were that loud."
"It was more of the bed frame bumping against the wall with a loud ‘thud’ every couple seconds."
"Sorry."
The two sat in silence for a couple seconds until the coffee maker began beeping as the last drop of coffee spilled into the pot. Remus rose from his chair and poured him and Jason a cup and sat back down, handing Jason his.
"So you and Dad really love each other, don’t you?" Jason asked, sipping at his coffee.
Remus nodded as he ran his fingers through the steam his cup was emitting. "More than anything. You’re dad truly is a wonderful man."
Jason set his cup down. "Why exactly was he in Azkaban?"
This was something Remus never liked to think about. He knew that Sirius was an innocent man. Never would he hurt someone like that, especially James and . Th. They had been some of his best friends since his first year at Hogwarts.
"He was charged for murders that he hadn’t done."
"Who did they think he killed?"
"James and Lily Potter, Harry’s parents. You remember when we told you about Voldemort, right?"
Jason nodded.
"He was the murderer. Voldemort killed Harry’s parents when he was an infant. Harry survived, and that is how he got that scar on his forehead. He survived the Daord’ord’s attack."
Jason couldn’t think of anything to say, so he simply nodded again.
"So, Jason," Remus broke the awkward silence. "Why don’t you go out and explore Hogsmead for yourself. It’s always more fun to find stuff out for yourself."
"That actually sounds good," Jason drank the last of his coffee and rose from his chair. "I’ll go do that."
