This chapter answers a part of the original challenge by CJ, number one stated below :
1. Dumbledore will insist that Harry stay with the Dursley's until at
least the day before his Birthday, so how do the newlyweds handle
this, will Tonks move in (Dursley reaction would be priceless) and
if she does how does she react to learning up close how the Dursley
treat/have treated her new husband, or will she just visit often and
Harry still have to put up with the Dursley's alone. How would that
make him feel towards his new wife, (the women he is supposed to
spend the rest of his life with, his future hope for his own family
now that Sirius and any hope of being just a kid is gone), that he is
still alone and treated like a child
Sun rose early the next morning on Privet Drive as Harry woke up to the sound of incessant owl pecks on his bedroom window. Looking at the owl, one Harry had never seen before, it was of his opinion to ignore the creature. However, as he hadn't the ability, nor the want to do such, Harry grabbed the letter it had been holding and sent it on its way.
Contained therein was a very carefully worded letter from Albus Dumbledore suggesting that Harry would feel badly if his relatives had died before he was able to take care of Lord Voldemort, and so as to not hurt his family, it was of Dumbledore's opinion he stay at Privet Drive until his birthday, at least.
Harry agreed, not wanting to have his only remaining family die at his hands, and decided that if she insisted on leaving that he would do everything in his power to convince her to stop.
His mind made up, Harry laid back beside his wife, hoping for a few more hours sleep.
Looking around the room, those precious few hours later, he couldn't help but feeling both elated and a bit insecure at the woman next to him. Sighing in resignation at the feelings he couldn't help, Harry stood and started dressing for the day ahead.
Looking forward to going through the wills in his pocket, Harry carefully laid out the papers again, wishing for once that his wife would wake up and help him through this. No sooner than he had thought it the strangest thing ever happened. She groaned and turned over.
Looking at her in bewilderment, Harry walked over to Tonks' side and said, "good morning Dora."
She looked at him happily and said, "I like very much waking up with you, Harry."
He smiled at her off-hand complement. "And I you, Dora. I... I'm sorry I asked you to do that, Dora. I... I figured that it was the easiest and safest way to prove my love for you, and to let Malfoy and the others know that we were very serious. You... you could have said no, though... you do have a choice, Dora."
Tears filled her eyes as she heard Harry say what every metamorphmagus has wanted to hear since the first was discovered three centuries ago. Bowing her head, Tonks began shaping her body to that of what was most comfortable, leaving for her husband only a few things, the eyes being one of them.
When she opened her eyes again, Harry was looking at her in complete adoration, and had a want to make her know he was serious about her.
"Dora, if I ever do anything to upset you... don't leave mad like you did yesterday. I mean... if what's in these is what I think, then we'll be able to go, get to really know one another before I start school again.
I'll try better to be a good husband, but please don't do that again."
"Oh Harry, you didn't do anything wrong, you asked me to do something that you knew I wouldn't be insulted by, and I took it the wrong way. My mother talked to me about it after I calmed down, I do understand that you think the real me is perfect.
And for that, I owe you so much. You've given me a confidence that can't be replaced, Harry. You've shown me that there is love in the world that can be given freely. I shouldn't have done as I did to you, and for that, I can't forgive myself as easily as you have. But...I do thank you for forgiving me."
Harry took his wife by the hand and said, "Dora... I promised when I married you that I would give you my everything. I was taught early, Dora that promises were things to cherish, even if for the wrong reasons. I meant it when I said that I would give you my everything, Dora, and I meant it. You're my wife. I..."
She smiled and said, "I understand, Harry. I do. We're going to have to get used to each other, I mean we went into this marriage with only the bare minimum of knowledge of each other. And, while I'm happy to be your wife, I'm not sure of myself as your wife, I'm not sure if I'm good enough to be on the arm of the boy-who-lived."
He smiled and drew her into a hug. She reveled in the feeling of him pressed against her, as she rested her gaze on the packets of parchment that contained the wills of Harry's parents and her cousin. She pulled back as to look at him at arms length and smiled.
"Harry... if you want me to look at the wills with you, to help you, let me know OK?"
Harry nodded his head, not wanting the feeling of being hugged by someone that wasn't using the hug as a way of manipulation. She smiled and ran her hand through his messy black hair. They stayed like that until Petunia came to get them up for morning breakfast.
Breakfast, which for Harry consisted of wheat bread and cheese for as long as he could remember, was the same this morning, the only difference was for Tonks they added a glass of milk. The witch was stunned at the open show of hostility, even though Harry was indifferent to what was occurring.
After their meager breakfast, Vernon had apparently decided that if Harry was married he was supposed to pay rent, and handed him a list, in explicit detail, of every charge of breakfast for every morning since he was one and a few months, every dirty diaper, every thing, plus a few charges that he was sure that never happened.
Then at the bottom, a total of twenty-thousand sterling was underlined seven times. The man, who was grinning also had on the back, "due in cash three days from receipt of this notice or the 'darling couple' will have to take up residence somewhere else."
Tonks glared openly this time at the man and was about to tell him off, but was cut off as Harry simply smiled and walked upstairs. She was unsure of what the problem was, even in the magical world twenty-thousand anything was considered harsh. Harry, on the other hand, was unsure of what he wanted more, to give the Dursley's the money and protect his wife from potential harm thereby letting them know he was loaded, or to simply leave as they expected, not come back and to simply live his life as he wanted too.
When the arrived back at the room, Tonks was still hungry, Harry could tell, so he went over to his trunk, pulled out a pasty he had received in one of Mrs. Weasley's care packages and said, "Here, I usually get these once, or twice a summer. They have a permanent fresh spell on them so they're still good."
She took the cream pasty and took a bite of it, smiling at the fresh taste that filled her mouth. Taking care to eat all of the delectable treat, she carefully made sure not to drop any. After a few minutes, she smiled and turned back to Harry and kissed him lightly for caring enough to know when she was hungry.
He smiled and told her, very adamantly, that it was nothing and that he did have plenty. After verifying that this was true she nodded her head and, told more than asked, him to eat himself.
Harry did, naturally, and too finished sooner rather than later.
After he was finished, Tonks walked over to him and, in a very quiet voice, notified him that it was time to look at Sirius' Will. Harry looked at the foreboding pieces of parchment and nodded.
Harry opened the first page and, noticed to his great relief, that it was a letter from Sirius himself.
Dear Harry, and Nymphadora if you're there,
I guess I finally bit the big one, eh? Not too sure what happened, could have been Moony, if you don't know who Moony is talk to Remus Lupin and ask, in one of our midnight rendezvous, or it may have been me saving Harry's life, either way I'm happy because I died doing what I love. At this point and time, I'm planning to escape to Grimmauld Place after seeing you, Harry, even though you'll probably hate me based on the rumors I've heard.
But, what can I say? Not too much, I died free hopefully, and I died happy, if I have ever met you. Well, I hope I did, meet you that is, cause dying sad would be some irony, happy in life, sad in death.
But, in case I died, this will was written with the two of you in mind, my darling niece who I had only met once before and my Godson, who I met when he was just a babe.
Nymphadora, first I will specifically set aside what I want you to have. Declared herein this will is a set of seven parchments with your name at the top. Instead of going through them, to save yourself the time and patience, I have decided to just give you the details here, and at a later time you can go through them.
First, Nymphadora, I have left you a set of jewels that were to be passed onto your mother. This should have been your mothers, but she was disowned through traditional means before she could receive them.
Secondly, I've left you a set of the properties that, when used at the correct times, give you a piece of tranquility that you can never find at Grimmauld Place. Some of these are slightly illegal as they are not registered as places of dwelling with the Ministry of Magic, but that's because they were bought before the property registration act was enacted.
Lastly, I have left you the major percentile of the estate, fifty-one percent of ten billion galleons, somewhere in the estimates of five billion galleons.
Now on to my Godson. Harry, I know I left you at a time that you are growing. I hope to have met you at least once, where you could see whether or not the rumors were real. I maintain my innocence, in case you've met me you'll know what I talked about.
If not, ask Dumbledore, and he'll explain it all to you.
Now onto what I am leaving you, Harry. My death will emancipate you. As your legal magical guardian, I took a potion with you at the same time that will, at the time of my death, make you a legal adult. If you are anything like your mother, you'll be happy to know this as then you can practice magic at home.
But, because of my death, certain liberties can be made with my family's assets. I've left you three things, as I did Nymphadora Tonks, who you should meet as I believe you will get along exceptionally.
To the first of your gifts, Harry.
First, parchments eight through fifteen are yours. Contained on those parchments are basically a list of businesses in all over the world. You have joke shops, broom shops, specialty shops all set up in my name. These shops, specifically named Zonko's, Bolt Broom's and Magical Menagerie, are all businesses that will get transfer of ownership papers within the week.
Secondly, I have left an order on page fifteen, the reason you have one more paper, to receive your parents' Will. I was the official Will-bearer of your family, and under my order, or in my death, will you get your parent's inheritance. This can be found at Gringotts. The password you will need to get from Moony, unless you've met him and then I can officially tell you that it is the same as the Marauder's Map.
Last, I leave you with the last forty-nine percentile of the Black Estate, or about four billion nine hundred million galleons.
I hope you both have a happy life, and if you meet each other, can console at least Nymphadora, who was my favorite... favorite niece."
Love,
Sirius
Tonks, at the time the will had been read, had tears running down her eyes. Soft sobs could be heard coming from her lips as she wrapped her hands around Harry's torso. Immediately, the boy grew uncomfortable with the situation, his only experience with crying girls going out of control with Cho.
Following his instincts, Harry placed his arms around her, and moved her head to his shoulder, her arms flowing to around his neck as she cried. He rubbed small circles in her back, hoping with all he was, that he was helping her and not causing more harm by pitying her.
It was at times like this Harry did feel like cursing his only remaining family, both for their insincerity when he was growing and their growing capacity to hate.
Of the time his Aunt had hit him with a frying pan for burning the bacon, his uncle punching him in the gut for calling Dudley a 'fat lard', or Dudley's taunting of Harry while he was beaten by his friends, Piers and Malcolm.
As he felt her tears stop, Harry held up his wife's head and looked her in the eyes. "Dora, it will be alright. It hurts like hell that he's gone, and I will admit that it still hurts me to think about him, but Sirius' memory will live on.
She sighed in exasperation but looked at Harry and nodded. Harry smiled and kissed her head before laying her back on the bed. Lying beside her, Harry held her close, and let her cry out all the pain, the sorrow.
They stayed like that as she cried herself to sleep.
"Wormtail, what information do you have for me?"
The rat Animagus looked up as Lord Voldemort called out his name. For a second, just the briefest of seconds, he thought to lie to Lord Voldemort and repay the Wizard's Debt that he owed the boy, but deciding against it bowed. "My Lord, I have found Auror Tonk's place of residence. It is a muggle apartment building, the other residents in the area have no idea that a witch is living there. However, my lord, it would seem that she has not been seen in a couple of days. What is your will, My Lord?"
"Have Avery prepare a legion to take out the apartment, Wormtail. Send in the Malfoy child as you leave. You have done well, Wormtail. You are proving to be a most useful spy."
"You honor me, My Lord, by your words. I am not worthy."
"No, you're not Wormtail, but as you recognize that fact, I will not punish you."
"Thank you, My Lord. By your leave, I shall send little Draco in."
"Yes, yes Wormtail, you may go."
As he shifts into his Animagus form, Wormtail scurries out of the room. He turns back and looks at Draco, who is pale white, and says, "Master would like to see you, Malfoy."
Draco, shivering in place, nods and walks towards Lord Voldemort, a half-blood that his father calls master. He bows and kisses the hem, thinking of how demeaning it is to have to serve a fool when his father would be a better candidate as Dark Lord, before kneeling.
"Malfoy, I would like to know when I can expect the Black Estate that you so promised I would get."
"M-m-my Lord... a... a ploy by the muggle-loving fool Dumbledore has caused problems in my attaining the Black Estate."
"Oh, really. Did I not tell you, Draco Malfoy that this would occur? Did you not, in your own words, "promise you, My Lord, that I will not, cannot lose, I am a Malfoy."
Draco nods.
"What are your plans, Malfoy?"
"I am going to appeal, make a generous offer to Fudge, as my father would have done, to appeal Dumbledore's motion and attain my inheritance, Lord."
"You foolish child! There is nothing you can do now! I know all about Potter having the estate! Not even killing the brat, nor his wife, would get me what I want! You have failed me, Malfoy, as your useless father has done since I have known him."
"MY FATHER..." he raised his voice to Lord Voldemort.
"Your father is in Azkaban at my leisure, child. You would do well to remember that... a parting gift, a way to remember that I am the Dark Lord and you... nothing more than a foolish child with my mark tattooed onto your body. Crucio!"
A scream shatters the once peaceful atmosphere of Privet Drive. As Harry sits up in bed, Tonks falls out, cursing her clumsiness before covering her ears at her husband's yells. She reaches up as he falls over, carelessly flopping into the bed, writhing in pain as if under the Cruciatus Curse.
She reaches up, wondering if what is happening is something she should worry about. As the thumps of feet fall against the floor, and the door bursts open to reveal Vernon, Harry falls over, silent once again.
"WHAT OF IT, BOY!" the man yells, jarring Harry out of his pain-induced sleep. He looks at his uncle, flinching in both pain and fear, as his uncle steps towards him with a leather strap. Tonks is shocked, shocked that he would dare threaten her husband, in front of her no less.
"Married or not, I will not stand for it boy! You will not wake me, anymore! I will beat you within an inch of your life, and then I'll let that Lord Voldything take the rest! And you won't stop me, trollop!"
Tonks was furious. She whipped her wand out, as if daring him to move. He grinned evilly and came down on Harry's back. "I know all about your kind, I do. He can't do his freakishness outside that freaky school, and if you've married him then you're his age! I've got you figured out, girly! If you do that m-stuff, you'll be out!"
Then, he came down again, laughing in his sleep-induced rage.
"Expugno!" she yelled. Instantly, the belt he had used on her husband tied around his wrists, and tightened the more he struggled to loosen himself from their touch. Finding something in the room, Tonks created a portkey and, picking up anything in the house that was vital to their safety or personal value, placed it in her pocket. Briefly wondering where his owl was, Tonks summoned her, and the cage, from the other room that had been Harry's.
Grabbing Harry's hand, she sat upon his trunk and said, "Hogwarts" before the pull of the naval, and the lurch of their bodies, set them at the front doors of Hogwarts.
