Snape looked at the group sitting around his living room. Hyacintha was eager to be going home but he did not know how to sneak them out. Not with classes in full swing. It would have to be done at the end of the week. It was not as soon as he had been given but it was what he could give.
“We will leave Friday evening. That is as soon as I can sneak you two out of here.” Snape said.
“I want to go.” Draco replied as he stepped closer.
“Yea, I want to go to.” Harry added.
“I cannot sneak both of you out. Besides, I have to request for you two to come along.” Snape replied.
“Then it would be longer to get home.” Hyacintha replied.
“I can help get the boys out. You would have to meet me at the manor before heading out.” Lucius replied.
“Then the only problem is waiting for permission.” Snape said.
“Not necessary.” Auaraya said. All eyes in the room turned to her, each one wanting her to explain her reasoning. “Look, Hyacintha can allow anyone access just as her father can right?” she asked.
“Yes, she can grant permission just like her father but it is only in an extreme case.” Snape replied.
“She has never granted permission before, have you?” Lucius asked.
“No, I haven’t. It’s always been father.” Hyacintha answered.
“Wait, why do we need permission t go to wherever it is you are going?” Harry asked taking a seat on the couch.
“You would be killed either by the magic wards or by the warriors surrounding the borders.” Hyacintha replied.
“What type of wards? Maybe we can bring them down enough to allow us through.” Draco said as he joined Harry on the couch.
“No one can bring the wards down. They can only be brought down by Hyacintha or her father.” Lucius replied.
“Then Hyacintha can let the wards down to let us get by.” Harry said. The boys sounded as if they were coming up with a plan.
“No one is taking down the wards!” Hyacintha shouted.
“Now is not the time to bring them there. Besides, they do not know who they are dealing with. It is too soon.” Auaraya added. She did not know Harry as well but she felt that they needed to learn about their kind before they meet any of them. There was also the issue of loyalty. She did not know about where the boy’s loyalty lied but it was important to the clan. After all of the betrayals, loyalty once gained is hard to earn twice.
“We are ready. Let us come with you.” Harry said.
“No, you cannot. You must stay here.” Snape said.
“I don’t care if it is dangerous or not. I can handle myself.” Harry continued.
“Don’t argue with me. You may think that you are ready but you have never been prepared for what is really going on.”
“But…” Harry never finished his plea as he was interrupted.
“You can come if you answer me correctly.” Hyacintha said suddenly. Everyone turned to her. “Whose’ side are you on?” Everyone was taken back. There was no time for Harry to have learned the deeper meaning behind what had been happening.
“The light like I always have been. “ Harry replied confused.
“And who has the right to say who is right and who is wrong? What does someone from that side believe in? Who follows who in their quest? Do they seek to preserve what is or what was? Do they even care that they are killing themselves off with their practices? Did it not ever occur to you that there is always two sides to every story? Did you ever ask yourself how does the other side see what is happening or do you always follow who you are told to simply because everyone else says so?” Hyacintha continued questioning. Auaraya just watched her friend. She had seen her act like someone in her standing would only a handful of times.
Harry blinked; he did not know how to respond. He had much to think about before he could answer even one question. “I cannot give you any answers. I do not know what to say that will make it correct but I has taught that Voldemort just wants destruction of all muggles and anyone not born to pure blood wizards. He seeks to destroy all of the magical creatures in the process. It will be nothing but pure destruction if he is allowed to win.” Harry ranted forgetting that Lucius was standing in the same room. Once he calmed down some he began to realize what he had just said and to whom. He looked from Snape to Lucius, each one shaking their head and looking disappointed. Draco just stared as if he had grown a second head. Hyacintha and Auaraya would not look at him at all.
“For all of the reasons you just listed, then you cannot come. You need to do your own research and come to a decision based on your findings and not by what you have been told. However, I will give you each something you must complete before requesting entrance again.” Auaraya looked to her friend confused. It was unheard of to give second chances to anyone. Especially to give out difficult missions that is next to impossible to complete.
“Wait a minute, does Draco not have the right to enter on grounds that he is my son?” Lucius asked.
“With my father yes; however, he does have a choice to either complete the task or to get permission from my father. If the tasks are not completed by the time we leave, then they can ask my father for entrance. Do you agree?” Hyacintha asked.
“Do I get to know the task before I agree?” Harry asked.
“No.” Hyacintha quickly answered. She was not giving him a choice t back out after hearing the task.
“Then I agree.” Harry said. He was ready to face a challenge.
“I agree to.” Draco said even though he could have gotten permission through his father. He wanted to prove himself worthy of the trust Hyacintha was placing in him.
“Alright. Draco your task will seem simple compared to Harry’s. I want you to do some spy work. In other words, I want you to befriend others not in the same house as you and find out where their views lay. I want to know what they think, not what their parents think or their friends. If you have to, meet them in private and question them. This must not get out to any of the faculty. Harry, you are to do the research and find the cause of this war. Do not ask around, I want your own opinion to form. Do not talk about your findings with anyone but Draco. In a more simple form you can understand, find answers to the questions I asked you.” Hyacintha said as she headed out of the room and to the kitchen.
“You two are lucky. If anyone approached her and did not answer right never got a second chance. Usually those people would go to her father but he would deny them as well if his daughter would not allow it.” Auaraya said looking at the boys in a serious manner.
“How can her father not allow entrance if she doesn’t? Does she have that much control?” Harry asked.
“No, it’s just that her father does not like conflict in his home. She is more likely to attack anyone she does not recognize the minute they enter the building.” Lucius smirked thinking back to the beginning of the summer.
“Not everything is as it appears. You better keep that in mind.” Auaraya said as she watched Hyacintha walk back into the room carrying to cups with red liquid. She handed one to Auaraya as she sat on the arm her friend was sitting in. They both drank slowly from the cups savoring the flavor.
“Is there a way to find out what caused the potion to explode?” Harry asked.
“You said it had a very bad order to it when we could not smell anything.” Draco stated.
“Not to mention that the potion made both of you bleed.” Harry added.
“That brings up an interesting topic. I thought only…” Lucius began. The glare from Hyacintha and Auaraya stopped him from completing his thought. He was not about to get on the wrong side of his bosses’ daughter. “Never mind.” He finished.
“Look, it’s dinner time so everyone out.” Severus said. Severus stood by the door as he practically pushed everyone out his door. He stopped Lucius on his way out and whispered something in his ear before letting him pass. Lucius smirked before continuing out. Hyacintha and Auaraya tried to follow but Severus stopped them. He stood in front of the door and watched as the girls backed up and moved away from the door. He then left making sure the girls would not be getting out. He did not need them to cause any more trouble than they already did. Besides, he was not going to be back for a while, there some place he needed to go.
Auaraya and Hyacintha sat on the couch and stared at the door. Both wanted to get out but knew they could not get through. Each one began to form a plan to leave. Just when they thought about how to get out, someone knocked on the door. They quickly glanced to one another and back to the door before they heard a voice.
“Severus, open up. I just want to check and make sure you are ok. The potions classroom has been fixed…. Severus? Come on it’s just Albus.” Dumbledore said as he tried to open the door. The girls quietly backed away from the room. They made their way to the room that led to the potions classroom. They managed to reach the door the minute the main door opened. They girls caught a look at Dumbledore before slipping into the room. They left a crack in the door to peer out and listened as Dumbledore looked around the rooms. To them, he seemed to be coming closer to their hiding space. Auaraya slipped further into the shadows, blending in perfectly. Hyacintha slipped quietly out of sight but still able to watch Dumbledore’s movements.
‘Cintha, blend in like we practiced.’ Auaraya said telepathically.
‘Don’t worry, he can’t see me.’ Hyacintha replied.
‘You didn’t practice did you?’
‘I did but it’s still not like you.’
‘You will get there. What is he doing?’
‘Looking through some papers. Oh no, I can see father’s letter!’
‘I thought Severus had it.’
‘I did to but he may have put in down on the table out there. I didn’t see what he did with it.’
‘I have a bad feeling about this. I am going to move in close to you.’
‘What do you plan to do?’
‘You remember what we did in that one class? We are going to do something similar. I’m going to get that paper to us but if he looks, turn it into something.’
‘Ok, I get it.’
Auaraya slipped in behind Hyacintha close enough to pull her out of danger if need be. She looked out through the crack and saw the slip of paper sitting on the desk. She watched as Dumbledore began to look through the bookshelves, reading the different titles. Using a push of wind, Auaraya concentrated on lifting the paper off the desk. The paper slowly lifted and began to float their way. When it appeared Dumbledore was about to turn around Hyacintha quickly transfigured the paper into a small bouncing ball. The ball landed on the floor and began to roll. Dumbledore paid it no mind as he turned his attention to the desk and began to look through the papers on the desk. Auaraya continued to use wind to roll the ball through the small opening. The ball rolled right into Hyacintha’s hands and transfigured back into the paper. Dumbledore glanced up from the desk and noticed the door.
“Severus? You there?” he questioned. Hyacintha quickly stood back up just as Auaraya pulled her into the shadows more. Using her power, she blended Hyacintha fully in. It was just in time as Dumbledore opened the door. The girls watched as he looked around the empty room and leave, closing the door behind him. Auaraya released them from the shadows before trying to open the door. When she realized the door would not open she sat on the floor followed by Hyacintha.
‘How is it that the door is locked?’ Auaraya asked afraid to speak out loud.
‘Maybe it locks if there is an intruder. He is still out there, I can feel him. I think he is waiting for Severus.’
‘What is he doing?’
‘Sitting on the couch.’
‘How far can you reach telepathically?’
‘I don’t know. Never tried it. Why?’
‘We need to send a message to Severus. Can you do it?’
“I can try but it won’t be easy since he is not one of us.” Hyacintha said closing her eyes. She felt the connection she had as all of their kind had. She would normally follow a line much like a web of different connections until she found who she was looking for. However, the person she was looking for was outside the connection. She tried to move through the lines as she searched but she found something far more interesting. There was barely a new connection starting attached to Auaraya’s line. She followed the connection and found someone most intriguing. Using her magic, she followed the connection to the end and proceeded to look through the others eyes. An idea began to form as the person surveyed the room. The person was in the castle, just in the Great Hall. Finding her next target, she looked into a pair of hazel eyes and with a burst of energy, she connected with her target. Just before she continued in her quest she looked into the eyes of her first host and gasped in shock. Similar to the technique used to find her kind, she followed through a connection of wizards until she found the one she sought. As she made her final connection, she used even more strength and connected with her target. She was not prepared for what she interrupted. She almost lost the connection but managed to stay on until the moment was over. She took her time to “feel” her way around before finding the right line to speak with.
‘Severus!’ Hyacintha yelled causing Snape to jump from the bed.
“Who’s there?” Snape asked reaching for his wand.
“Who are you talking to?” his lover asked.
“I thought I heard someone.” Snape said as he laid back down.
‘Severus! We need your help!’ Hyacintha tried again. She was losing her connection fast.
“Know I know I heard someone.” Snape said as he sat back up.
“There is no one there.” His lover replied. Snape didn’t listen as he paid attention to the voice.
‘Someone with the name of Albus Dumbledore came into your chambers. We are stuck.’ Hyacintha explained.
‘Which one are you?’ Snape thought hoping his thoughts would reach her.
‘Hyacintha. Quick, I can’t hold the connection much longer… using too much… hurry!’ Hyacintha thought as the connection broke. Hyacintha felt herself fall back into herself at a quicker rate then it took for her to find the connection. She was no longer sitting on the floor but laying in her friends’ lap.
“You used up a lot of energy.” Auaraya explained.
“I know... but… I… did… it.” Hyacintha replied tiredly.
“Shhh, just rest for now. You did what you could. I will keep us hidden until Severus can get here.” Auaraya said as she watched Hyacintha closer her eyes. She continued to keep them well hidden as Hyacintha began to rest. She had used up more energy than they first believed.
After the connection broke, Snape scrambled out of bed and quickly began to dress. As he finished, he glanced back to his lover and frowned.
“Sorry to cut the visit short but the girls are in trouble.” He said as he stood by his lover’s side.
“Be careful.” His lover replied.
“Alright, I will. I’ll see you soon Lucius.” Snape said as he gave a quick kiss to his lover before rushing out the door.
