The morning of the day they left Pansy and Ron went over the plan. The train left at 11. On the train, Ron planned to tell Harry, Hermione and Ginny of the wedding. Invitations would be sent out to everyone else.
They would each return to their homes. Ron now had all his belongings in his new house, thanks to Misty, so he had with him a practically empty trunk, that would be filled with the rest of his things from the Burrow. Ron was going home only to tell his parents about his career, his new home and his upcoming marriage. He would gather the last of his things, then go to his new house. He wanted to be there right away.
Pansy on the other hand, carried a rucksack charmed by Hermione, she would be able to fill it with anything she needed and it stayed the same size. Half the size of her school bag. She would pack first, then tell her parents, if things went the way Pansy feared then she wouldn’t have to stay any longer then she had to, she could leave then and there.
Pansy didn’t tell Ron, but she planned on leaving that day regardless of how her parents felt about it. She had been away from Ron far too long. A few late night trips to the Room of Requirement did not ease the desire she had since the Christmas holidays. She wanted to be with Ron, and she planned to.
Ron entered the Burrow after his parents. Ginny immediately rushed upstairs to her room. Ron needed privacy for what he was planning to tell them. However he knew for a fact that Ginny had a pair of Extendable Ears. After what he told her on the train, there was no way she was going to miss out.
“Why don’t you go unpack, and I’ll get something to eat for you two.” Before his mother could leave, Ron stopped her.
“Mum, wait, there’s something I need to talk to you and dad about.” He sat down facing his parents. Arthur was calm, but Molly was worried. Arthur knew how serious his son was about his girlfriend, and had a general idea about what this might concern.
“First, I want to show you these.” He laid out his employment contract and his Gringotts account verification. It didn’t have the amount on it, only his prove that he had an account at the bank. “I’ve had Hermione go over the contract before signing, so everything to my advantage.”
“Ron,” Molly started, “according to these dates, you’ve signed these back in September.”
“Yes, Mum, I’ve been actively designing and earning since then. I was able to purchase a home a couple of weeks ago.”
“You’ve bought a house already?” His father asked, in astonishment. But Ron could also tell that his father was proud of him and it made him feel good.
“Yes,” Ron confirmed, “it’s all final, I own it. I came here today to tell you everything and to gather the last of my things.”
“WHAT?! You’re leaving, just like that?” He normally cringed at his mother’s temper, but his father’s calmness was aiding him.
“Mother, I’m an adult now, and I have to act like one. I can support myself. There is no reason for me to live off my parents.” Molly looked to her husband, but Arthur was smiling at his son. She knew he would be no help. Ron pushed on.
“There is one more thing I need to tell you.” He said.
“Oh, it gets better?” Molly said with a bite.
“I’m getting married.” He said calmly. Molly stood up and lost all composure.
“WHAT?!” Ron had a flashback to a howler he received in second year. “YOU CAN’T BE SERIOUS! You’re too young! It’s that girl, isn’t it! She……” Ron had taken all he could by now, and stood to face his mother.
“That girl might be kicked out of her family and thrown from her own home because of me. She’s risking everything in her life because she thinks I’m worth it. She’s willing to just walk away from it all for me. Will she be unwelcome here as well?” Molly had no words for her son. What could she say? How could she convince her son to wait. He was determined and her own husband didn’t appear to agree with her. She looked down and rubbed her eyes.
“No, Ron she won’t.” Arthur stood and addressed his son. “Of course she’ll be welcome. You are worth it and I’m glad she sees that.” Arthur put an arm around his wife who was fighting her sniffles. “You said, you wanted to gather your things.” Ron knew his father wanted to speak to his wife and calm her down. He was giving Ron an excuse to leave his parents for a moment, and he eagerly took it.
He had not been in his room a second when Ginny popped in. “Bloody hell, she went mental.” She said, closing the door.
“Yeah, Dads calming her down.”
“She’ll never let me leave now.” They shared a laugh.
“If you are that desperate, you can always live in the guest room, you know.” He offered.
“I may take you up on that, if she loses it. Do you need help?” She asked as he opened his trunk.
“Sure.” He said, and together they pack the rest of his clothes. Using his wand, he peeled off years of cannons posters and articles off his walls, placing them in a folder. Soon the rest of his things were packed and he closed the trunk, minimizing it and hooking it onto his belt.
He faced his sister and closest sibling. “When do I get to see the house?” She asked.
“The wedding is Friday.” He said. She hugged him, then followed him downstairs.
Molly had calmed down and smiled at him before she hugged him. He was grateful for whatever his father said to her. “Ron, are you happy?” She asked him, the redness in her eyes was still evident.
“Yes, very. The wedding is Friday, you’ll get details soon.” He told her.
“You know if you need help with planning so soon, I can always……..” Ron stopped her. His mother taking over their wedding was not a good idea. She would take her time and it would be delayed and delayed and delayed, and he wasn’t about to wait.
“It’s being taken care of mum, all you and dad have to do is show up.” He told her.
She smiled a little sadly and stepped back. Ron said his goodbyes, then disapparated to his house.
Pansy was walking on eggshells. Her parents had friends over for tea so it gave her a chance to pack what she wanted. She put practical clothes in the sack. Jeans, jumpers, t shirts, pajamas, bras and knickers. She took a few dresses but let all the dress robes. She wouldn’t need them.
She gathered her make-up and toiletries, and the jewelry she was given or had bought herself. The rest could stay in the family where they belonged.
She packed up the rest of her personal keepsakes, photos, letters, and books. Everything from Hogwarts had been taken to the house by Misty. The charm Hermione placed on her bag was brilliant and she was able to pack everything. She slung the bag over her shoulder, took a deep breath and went downstairs.
“Mother, Father, I need to talk to you.” Her parents looked up from their places in the parlor.
“What is it my dear?” Her father asked. He was not given to losing his temper, but he was strict.
“I’ve decided to move out.” Her mother gave a laugh and if she had just heard a joke. Pansy remained standing, even though her father had motioned to the chair.
“Where would you go?” Her father asked in a condescending tone, like he used when she was a little girl asking for a new toy. Pansy knew her father was expecting her to ask for money.
“My fiance’s home.” She said quietly. Her mother stopped chuckling.
“Fiance? I approved of no fiance.” Her mother stated.
“I agree with your mother. I did not give my permission.”
“He is the one I have chosen. We are getting married on Friday.” She felt her control slipping, but if Ron could be brave she could too.
“You little……” Her father silenced her mother with a raise of his hand.
“Who is the young man?” Mr. Parkinson asked.
“Ron Weasley.” Her voice was quiet, but it was heard in the silence of the room.
“WEASLEY!? A pauper! He has nothing! The whole damn family is worthless!” Pansy listened to her mother’s rage, slowly becoming angry at the words her mother was using.
“How will he provide for you?” Her father remained the voice of reason, but Pansy could tell he thought Ron incapable of supporting anyone.
“He is signed with a broomstick company and has been designing all year. He’s been quite successful.” Pansy spoke with pride about Ron, hoping her parents would see it, but they didn’t.
Her mother only muttered profanities and made angry faces. “No. I won’t allow it. My daughter will not marry beneath her.” Her mother’s voice was firm.
“I agree. He is not your equal. I forbid it.” Her father spoke quietly but she knew that voice.
“Mother, Father, I am not asking permission.” Her mother sat straight up and raised both eyebrows. “We are getting married on Friday.” If she thought her determination would earn her respect, she was sorely mistaken.
“Then go.” Her father remained standing as he spoke to his child. “But if you walk out that door, you are not welcome back. You’ll get not one sickle from me. Never show your face to me again. If you are prepared to disgrace yourself with him, then by all means go. If you are willing to turn your back on the life you were raised in, then you are just as worthless as he is.” Her mother had said nothing through her father’s speech. The look on her face showing her agreement.
Pansy slowly stood and made her way to the front door. She felt the sting of her father’s words as she closed the door and walked past the estate boundaries. She turned and disapparated.
