-You remember how Fred, George and Lee returned to the Gryffindor Tower green a little while ago?- muttered Oli, as Anto once again dissolved into oaths.
Again.
Not that Anto had been in any kind of mood beforehand that was being torn apart by this. Oh no. He had begun his conversation of Silence with her by threatening:
-If I ever manage to get my hands on an ice pick, I will be thrusting it into their dead, un-funny hearts-
Amy hadn’t needed to ask exactly who had pissed Anto off this time. She may be stuck in the Hospital Wing (it was the fourth day after the Full Moon for Merlin’s sake and yet Poppy still refused to let her go) but she still heard the rumours.
Sir Headless Nick was very helpful in keeping her up to date with the news buzzing and not (as in attempting to be kept secret) around the school.
-Do I even want to know exactly why the twins and Lee decided to change the colour of their skin?- replied Amy with a slight rumble of her throat –considering the reaction and general feeling I am getting simply by Anto?-
Another grunt from Anto.
-A wise move- he muttered.
A soft laugh from Oli.
-Despite what Anto is inferring- said Oli –answering the question will not bite you in the ass-
Another snort.
-Don’t be too sure about that- said Anto –Knowing Fred, George and Lee…-
-The reason for them being green has nothing to do with you, Anto- said Oli –and despite what you think, they will not use it against you-
-Fuck off- said Anto –If they figure out that this method can be successful, they’ll play a wonderful little prank on me-
-Anto- said Oli –I keep telling you that-
-It doesn’t matter how many times you tell me that you don’t think it will happen- interrupted Anto –I still think it will-
-The one who’ve they have decided to play the prank on- said Oli –I am certain, will be enough-
-Ha!-
-And it’s not as if any of the ghosts aren’t above giving us a little helping hand if we ask- added Oli –I am quite sure that calling on that favour that the bloody Peeves owes us will be more than useful-
Anto snorted.
-You can’t be serious?- said Anto –You want to bring Peeves in? You do remember the last time he had anything to do with any of our paybacks?-
-That was due to no rules being laid down beforehand with the pesky poltergeist- said Oli with what could be nothing more than a dismissive snort.
-Rules?- said Anto –You think that rules will in any way cause Peeves to behave?-
-The reason why we would be bringing Peeves in and why he would agree is because he gets another chance to not behave- said Oli –And one that is being helped and agreed upon by us-
-Is that what you are going to claim when we are in front of the Elders?- said Anto –Again? Because you know as well as I do that the Elders will not believe or agree with it. That won’t fly with them, as Josh likes to use with his wonderful array of cool words-
-Fly?- said Oli, giving a long suffering laugh –Don’t tell me that Josh’s use of slanguage has finally gotten through to you and you are actually picking it up?-
An almost embarrassed sound of a sniff from Anto.
But…wasn’t that the wonderful part of Josh’s personality that just somehow managed to get under the skin, burrow its way into the mind set and then when least expected…would suddenly spew forth? Some Members of the two Katas did try to infuse the language into them (*cough* Bill and Brian *cough*) because they knew how much it annoyed the Elders (Professors and Guardians) but others…
Other Members of the Weasley Kata and the Black Rose Kata had a little bit more of Common Sense and therefore… Well, at least tried to keep themselves from doing so.
Most of the time.
Or, at least against their Guardians. Molly and Arthur deserved to…
-Fuck off!- muttered Anto.
-Considering how much you willingly pick up from Josh- cut in Amy –that is calling the pot calling the kettle black-
-Never said I didn’t- said Oli –and considering the latest round he’s acquired, I think I will have quite a few more to use at my pleasure-
Amy groaned.
-Don’t- said Amy –the Elders are annoyed at us enough as it is-
-Exactly how did this –us- come about?- said Oli –You were the one who jumped the New Idiot and his Lapdogs, earning yet another injunction against you-
Amy snorted.
-With them luck trying to get that to stick- said Amy –If they pull me in front of The Courts again it will just end up worse for them-
Amy didn’t need to see Oli to know that he had raised an eyebrow in surprise.
-You have something else new against them?- he said –When did you have time to raid through the New Idiot’s files?-
Amy rolled her eyes.
-I was gone for quite some time- she said.
-But once you were thrown out you did make your way back to Hogwarts…?- said Oli.
Well, yes…though Amy would hardly declare it as her the one who had been forced out of the building. She had done all the damage she wanted to, to the New idiot and the few Lapdogs who had tried to come running to the rescue of the New Idiot, and with the possibility of the New Idiot deciding to throw caution to the wind…
The Elders would hardly be pleased with her if she had included those Aurors in the amount of wounded in The Ministry… Not only because this meant Aurors being hurt, but also as…
It would run through the rumour mill of The Ministry. It would reach all the ears craned and not towards the latest gossip of The Ministry.
And it would…
There were more than enough whispers of the possibility that… Amy knew that despite her best efforts, she wasn’t always able to be completely invisible. There were times when her presence was noted and…
And then it reached the ears of Sirius Black and James Potter; the two who…
Amy swallowed nervously.
Sometimes she was pleased that there were still Members of The Marauders who were fighting against the realization that the Marauders who were supposed to have Passed On… The ones who listened in to any little titbit that might lead them to where the Westley Pack were.
And other times… Amy wished they would give up the hope. Her Public Persona was not close to any of The Marauders. And any of the Allies who could pass information to her…
They didn’t like to. They knew how much Amy missed the Public Members of The Marauders but…
It was undoubtedly nothing compared to what The Marauders were feeling. The insistence of Sirius Black and James Potter that the Westley Pack were still alive…
She had heard from Molly that the rest of The Marauders refused to even waste a minute of their time over this thought. That every time Sirius Black and James Potter tried to bring the subject up, they were met with cold resistance.
The rest of The Marauders couldn’t allow themselves to believe it. They couldn’t have their hopes raised and then dashed when the information they had in front of them suddenly turned out to be nothing or lead to a brick wall. The Marauders were already…
And Amy could understand that.
She wouldn’t want any of them to be hurting more than they already were.
And she hated it when there was anything she had done that could do that to them.
Or if something came up that had nothing to do with her, but did leave The Marauders with an even bigger hole.
She just wished…sometimes that James Potter and Sirius Black would give up. That they would stop putting the rest of The Marauders through this. Again.
-Amy?- said Oli eventually, as his thoughts finally seemed to have caught up with him long enough to figure out how to carry the conversation even further –exactly when did you leave Hogwarts?-
And there it was.
Oli realised what Anto…
Well, he was keeping quiet.
-Anto told me the news about Sirius Black shortly after five in the evening- said Amy.
All right.
So this wasn’t fair.
She shouldn’t be playing with Oli like this, but…
She had to have a little bit of fun considering how much she was going to be yelled at by the other Members of Her Kata soon enough.
-And you left Hogwarts at?- said Oli.
Amy shrugged, even though she knew Oli couldn’t see it.
-There were only a few things I needed before I could head to The Ministry- she said.
She already had her wand on her, along with the arm dagger attached to a holder in her left arm. But she still needed to grab her other cloak (the one that had several deep pockets that she could stash parchments in), and of course…the copies of what she could use against the New Idiot and his Lapdogs.
And yes, she had been taking a big chance of choosing to raid the files of the New idiot and his Top Lapdogs before she bashed into the Office of the New Idiot, but…
It was worth it. It wasn’t as though she would allow herself to be restrained by the Lapdogs so that they could run their hands through her clothes to see what she had on her. And none of them would be –able- to anyway.
And it was also an opportunity that she couldn’t pass up. She needed new information to use against the New idiot and the Lapdogs, not only for the actual Meeting she was forcing upon the New Idiot and his Lapdogs. And this way…she could.
-By yourself!- said Oli –Amy! There is a reason why we have always insisted that there be two of you when there is any raids! Doing it all by yourself-!-
-And this was one of them that I did by myself!- said Amy –but I got what I needed and now if there are any other attempts of trouble-
-You know full well that that is not the problem!- said Oli –How in Merlin’s name are we supposed to protect the Alpha Female if she keeps running off, taking on all these stupid people by herself!-
-Exactly!- said Amy –The Alpha Female! Who is perfectly capable of looking after herself!-
And there came the grumble from Oli, deeply rounded off by the full return of Oli’s accent that made it nearly impossible to understand what he meant. Of course, spending her entire life around Oli meant that Amy could figure out the jist of it, and therefore…could translate it in her head.
-Oli- said Anto with a deep sigh –You won’t be able to get through to her. And you certainly won’t be able to have her admit that she is in the wrong-
-I am not wrong!- snapped Amy –I did nothing wrong!-
-So you might as well leave it to Bill and Charlie- said Anto –between the two of them, the Males should be able to –help- Amy understand exactly what problem we have with what she did in The Ministry-
Amy snorted.
There wasn’t anything wrong.
They were just over-reacting.
Again.
As they always did.
-As Second and Third in Command- muttered Oli –they better. Along with the fact that they are bloody well Mated with her-
-So you expect them to be able to carry off what Anto rarely manages with you?- said Amy.
-Don’t!- said Anto –Don’t! All I care about now is what you learnt, Amy-
-What?- said Oli –But what about-?-
-Can you share what you learnt, Amy?- continued on Anto as though Oli hadn’t even said anything –Or is this something that you want to keep to yourself?-
Amy sighed.
This was the reason why she wished that she could promote Anto further up in the Ranks within the Kata. But there were only so many levels beyond the point of being Alpha… And Amy needed Bill to be her Second in Command. He was her recognised Enforcer, or at least…was within the few who knew the Truth about the Kata.
And Charlie…? He was the Common Sense she needed who had enough of a personality that had the ability to use it against anyone else within the Kata, or anyone around them. Anto didn’t have that. He had more Common Sense than Charlie, but he was…more insular and less likely to use it against anyone else.
So Anto had to be left as Fourth.
-There are some interesting information to be spread- said Amy –It should be enough to keep the New Idiot and his Lapdogs off our back for a bit longer-
-You said that it was enough to also cover The Marauders and their Allies?- said Anto.
-Yes- said Amy –more than enough-
-Good- said Anto –so we have a bit of leeway and a bit of time-
Amy cocked her head.
-Leeway and time?- she repeated.
-Yes- said Anto, with the slightest of laughs (Amy could almost swear that it was relieved one for being so successful of stopping the previous argument cold) –I would prefer if nothing was done for a little while so that the Elders will stop giving me glares every time I am anywhere near them-
And there was Oli’s chuckle.
Not completely loss of all his anger. It took much longer than this to calm Oli down when he had geared himself up for a fight and didn’t get it. But…it was something at least.
-Only because they think that we’ve dumped our latest materials for trouble on you- said Oli –Almost as if they believe that we are stupid enough to think that you are just as innocent as your Public Persona portrays-
-And why would they think that?- said Anto –Oli? Is there any reason why they may think that?-
Louder chuckles from Oli this time.
-Nothing I have done- he said –Or Amy. Or Cedric and Penny-
-Then the thought behind this process is…?- said Anto.
-Simply because they are more than aware that we will undoubtedly be up to something- said Oli –Not because we have giving them any signs, but considering how long it has been since we have caused –that- kind of trouble…-
Yes.
It had been a while.
Over two months in fact. And the Christmas Holidays were now approaching and the Elders knew that such festivities… Well, they needed to be celebrated properly, didn’t they?
Amy couldn’t argue with the pronouncement Sirius Black had made all those years ago.
And so, it went without saying that every year, -something- happened that was prank worthy. It was always contributed to Oli, Bill, Charlie, Brian and Josh, even though Oli was the only one left as a Student at Hogwarts.
But the prank was always believed, by the rest of the student body, and more importantly by the Young Ones and their Elders (excluding Professor Elders and their Guardians of course), that it was all coordinated through Smoke and Mirrors, and Silence.
No one guessed that Penny, Cedric, Anto and Amy also had their own hands in it as well.
-Haven’t spoken to any of the Older Ones yet- murmured Anto –not on that-
-Can hardly be forgotten- said Oli –It’s a time honoured tradition that we can’t stop during our last Year of Hogwarts-
-it will be the last year for it though- said Amy softly –Cedric can hardly continue carrying it out considering no one knows that he has helped it every year-
A slight pause.
Yes.
This was the end.
There were too many of those happening now. At the end of this school year…
There would only be one Member left between the two Katas, and Cedric… The Elders hadn’t really figured out what to do with Cedric yet. He was more of silent partner in The Resistances, and keeping to his Public Persona, he was one of the few Resistance Members Young Ones who got along well with Others.
He was on quite good terms with the rest of his Hufflepuff Quidditch team.
-We’ll figure out a way to let Cedric have his own little bit of fun- said Oli –He’s only a Sixth Year, and with one year remaining…-
-And his one year remaining is not an excuse for him to suddenly go all out- muttered Amy –He will be remaining true to his Public Persona-
A snort from Oli.
-Still don’t understand how he’s able to be so happy around those Others- he said.
-Not everyone has as many problems as you do with them- said Amy –Some don’t have to fake it-
Another snort from Oli.
-I’m just glad that I don’t have to- said Oli –Bad enough that I had to be nice to those Other Quidditch players-
-Until you realised that not all of them were that bad- said Anto.
The pause was undoubtedly due to Oli rolling his eyes in annoyance.
-You have realised that Katie Bell, Alicia Spinnet and Angelina Johnson are not all that bad- said Amy –once you got to know them-
-They realised the Truth- said Oli.
-That wasn’t all of it- said Amy –You realised that after spending so much time with them-
-So you are telling me that I should spend more time around Others?- said Oli –because then I will like more of them?-
Amy gave a little chuckle.
-You never know- she said –And while I will concede that the majority of Others are stupid and have sheep like mentality, there are some that are worthwhile-
Oli grumbled something in Scottish.
It was low enough that luckily Amy couldn’t catch it, as she could understand his Native language. And if she had, she might have had to do something about it.
-A very very low minority- growled Oli.
Amy and Anto chuckled in amusement.
Well, at least they had managed to get Oli to admit that much.
