“This year has been trying” Dumbledore addressed the students on their last night in the castle before the summer holiday “With classes, tests, O.W.L’s for some, getting ready to go in to the world for others. Then there was the monster that terrorized our school for a whole weekend, but there were amazing things that stemmed from that experience that will be carried with us, forever” His eyes strayed for just a moment to Remus and then Severus before they danced over Lily and James “I hope your holiday is safe and fun. Enjoy your meal”

Everyone tucked in to their meal and Remus, though eating, kept looking up at the Slytherin table occasionally catching his boyfriends eye and blushing and looking back down at his plate. It had been months since they started to date and the other boy could still make him blush like a third year on his first date, things had changed, everything changed for the better. Severus had come home with him during the Christmas holiday and he would be coming home with him tomorrow on the Hogwarts Express for the summer holiday. Lyn, Remus’s mother, had contacted and then meant with Eileen Snape, Severus’s mother, to ask if it would be okay if Severus came home with him for the summer. Apparently, it had not gone well because nearly a month later Lyn showed up at the castle to tell Remus and Severus that he would be living with them, it was only after speaking to his father did he learn that Snapes father had freaked out and attacked his mother for allowing him to come home with Remus, Eileen Snape was beaten to death. Lyn was too scared to allow Severus to go back to that and therefor fought with the ministry to do something almost impossible…become the legal guardian of Severus Snape.

I would love to be able to say that this story is one with a happy ending but I would be lying to you.

Severus Snape: Severus and Remus remained dating all through their seventh year confusing many and yet making others believe that maybe there was love out there in this time of war. However, old hatreds never truly die and it was those old memories of hate filled words, curses, and beatings that drove Severus to the side of the dark lord. It was right after graduation that he told Remus his plan to join Voldemort and begged him to join as well but Remus was too pure to do anything that evil, even Severus knew that…it was the last time they would be together for many years. Severus was a loyal follower a little over two years before he realized just what would happen to his best friend (Lily) and the thing that she married (James…he never did learn to like him) it was then he chose to be a double agent. He had hoped to see Remus but it was not meant to be, Severus took a job as Potions Master at Hogwarts after Lily was killed and spent a quiet life wandering the halls every thunder storm remembering the life he chose to give up.

He prayed to never see the werewolf again and for twelve years the gods were kind. Then, the mutt got out of prison and the insane headmaster hired Lupin to teach DADA. He never wanted to hurt him but he needed him away from him, it wasn’t right the way he wanted snog the man senseless each time he saw him, nor was it any good that when there was the slightest hint of rain and/or thunder he wanted to throw him in an alcove and shag him until he was unable to walk right for a month. Then in the war he found himself doing everything he could to keep him safe not even caring about his own health or safety but it all paid off in the end. Remus was alive and amazing as usual and…back in the castle…great.

Remus Lupin: He always thought that life would get better after a while. That he would stop missing Severus, but every night he dreamt of those sinfully elegant hands, lustful black eyes and constant smirk. He stayed in wizarding London for Sirius, James and Lily but that was it, there was no other reason and when Lily and James were murdered and Sirius was in jail for helping with the murder there was nothing to hold him there anymore. He declined to take the DADA Professor position that Dumbledore offered him and took to traveling with nothing more than some clothes and what little money he had in the first place. He was in America when he heard about Sirius’s escape and he went back to England to talk with Dumbledore but found himself offered a job. Having been back in London for a few months he had been unsuccessful in finding paid work and had been living in the woods that were around Godric’s Hollow so he had to take the offered job as DADA.

The year had been amazing and Harry was just like his father and Remus found that it was difficult not to favor the boy. He did all that he could to protect him and allowed that to keep him safely hidden from Severus at almost all times, Severus seemed to have forgotten they were once lovers, his tone was always sneering and mean and more than once he came inches to revealing his secret to his classes. Then, he did. Remus was told he could stay on but he was unable to even look at Severus not to mention take a potion that he made him and have to speak to him on a daily basis, no he fled like the coward he was.

When the war broke out again a few months after that it was just like the first time, only this time he lived with Sirius and was helping the Order and would fight when the time came. The time did come and he did fight, praying the whole time that he would die in the end so he could end his misery but that was not to be his fate. Instead, he ended up heading back to Hogwarts to take up his old post in DADA for Harry’s sixth year. Voldemort was gone and there was nothing hanging over their heads and still Remus couldn’t confront the man he was still in love with. They were not meant to be, just like Severus had warned all those years ago.

Dumbledore was sad to see that his use of Peeve’s need for magic as a “monster” to get the two together had not worked, he was so sure that they were soul mates so what the heck was wrong? He knew the answer; they grew up and they grew apart. There was too much bad blood there now and he was sure that both men hated each other, he was saddened to see them back to where they had began all those years ago.

A/N: I hope you liked this story. I never did say that it would be particularly happy but I did say it would be short! Please give me your feedback on if you would like it continued. I have a question for CLAWS. You keep saying ‘I love your face’ I’m just wondering what you mean by that?

Anyway, I think CLAWS and Sara are my only readers of this story at least you’re the only ones that care enough to review and those reviews have meant the world to me…thank you.
