Harry was bored. Sure he had been scared at first, then angry, but now he was just bored with the irritating urge to stretch his muscles hovering in the background. If he could just SEE something! Without his vision he wasn't even sure how long Draco had been gone. It could have been 30 minutes or several hours for all Harry could tell. He was just hoping they weren't doing anything too terrible to the git. Now that Harry knew that Draco wasn't really all that bad, it made it harder to focus around his blonde-haired arch-nemesis. School had been hell since the start of term what with Draco constantly trying to bait him or goad some sort of response other than indifference from him, but Harry, struggling with his own feelings toward the prat, just completely ignored him; as well as most of the world. Harry tried to use what physical senses he had left to distract himself from his thoughts. Inhaling deeply through his nose, he could pick up the dusty smell of a carpet "Maybe im laying on a rug?" he mused. He could also barely detect a sulfurous mixture that seemed familiar, but remained unidentifiable. Straining his ears, Harry tried to hear any noise Draco, or the others may have been making, but failing that, only heard the ticking of a large clock from somewhere outside of the room he was in. In otherwords, he couldn't sense anything useful so he sighed and tried squirming to stretch his complaining muscles a little bit. Seconds after shifting, he heard the door to his left thrown open and heard two sets of boots approach him.
"Now, now. No use playing possum, Harry!" The first voice called out gleefully
"Yes, we know your awaaaake!" A second voice practically sang the word 'awake.'
"Really Harry, didn't you think we'd put a monitoring charm on your ropes? As soon as you moved, we knew you were with us, old boy!" Said both voices at once.
Harry could feel himself frowning and turned his face away from the direction the voices were coming from. He didn't want his captors to know they were affecting him in any way but the way they talked reminded him of someone. He just couldn''t think of who right this second. "What have you done with Malfoy?" Harry was pleased to note his voice hadn't failed him. Not a single quiver or squeak to betray his nervousness.
"Still have the Savior mentality, we see." commented one voice.
"You should really worry more about what we want with you, you know." said the other voice.
"After all, Draco was just a fortunate accident." said both voices together.
Harry frowned harder. "Where have I heard them before?" he thought frantically. The voices themselves weren't familiar but that speech pattern!
There was no note with the photo, nor any evidence to point to the kidnappers. And Severus was very reluctant to tell Lucius what he had realized when he recognized the room shown in the photograph. It was quite possible that they would simply have to wait some more for the next bit of evidence to be delivered to them. Severus scowled, hopefully the person(s) would be so kind as to send an owl with a better temperament than the last one. "Now, now Severus, what's with that fearsome frown on your face?" came Lucius smooth voice. Snape berated himself for allowing his attention to wander from the Lord in front of him and replied, "Just considering the motives of these attackers. It is my belief that they never intended to capture Draco at all. Considering the date of the attack, I am fairly confident in my assumption that it was Potter alone that they were seeking to harm. It may give us some leverage to retrieve Draco unharmed from the kidnappers."
Lucius calmly stared at the man in front of him. Since the war's end, Severus had been taking much better care of himself. Getting proper rest and meals had done wonders for the man. Where skin was sallow before, now it was alabaster; and lanky black curtains were transformed into a shiny and stylish queue at the base of Severus' neck. The only thing that hadn't changed about the man were his severe robes and acidic wit. "And what do you suggest we do while we wait, Severus? I cannot afford to look weak in front of the other Noble Families." came Lucius' measured reply.
Realizing he was no longer just speaking with his friend, Lucius, but with Lord Malfoy as well; Severus straightened in his chair and looked directly into Lucius' eyes. "I, more than anyone, understand your situation. I am not suggesting weakness on your part, or idly waiting for the kidnappers to contact us. I am, however, suggesting you take a closer look at the benefits of this situation. Should you successfully rescue The Boy Wonder from this perilous situation, you will garner favor from the masses, respect from your peers, and a massive debt from the Ministry. Not to mention, Potter's thanks as well." Severus closely watched as Lucius absorbed the impact of his words before allowing a slight smirk to grace his face. "Besides, although waiting may be a..." he paused delicately as if to consider a word before continuing with, "hardship, for you Lucius. I for one am looking forward to whatever photographic evidence our entrepid villains may send next."
