Lucius moves his hand down her body as she trembles; she’d shout for help, but she had noted the dull, anechoic quality of sound inside Snape’s dungeon office, and had realized how well it was sound-proofed; probably both magically and materially. She suspects he wouldn’t hear her, and she is fairly certain that Malfoy will hurt her (more than she believes he’s already planning to), if she did scream. She begs for Snape in her mind, willing him to come out of his office. She’d even be grateful to see Filch or even Peeves right about now, but she knows both of them tend to steer clear of Snape’s realm.
She closes her eyes as Malfoy runs his hand under her skirt and between her legs; she’s still wet from having been so aroused, and Lucius murmurs, “Yes, such a shame to let such a wet pussy go unsatisfied. I’ve often wondered about Severus, but I never thought he was this big a fool.”
Lucius bends to kiss her and she tries to turn away, but he puts one hand on her neck and says, “If you like it rough, I can oblige that quite well, too…” She stops struggling as he bends to kiss her again, pushing himself against her. She cries out for Snape again in her mind as Lucius moves both his hands under her skirt; pulling down her panties first, and then fingering her with one hand while using the other to pull one of her hands to the bulge in his trousers. In a few moments both of his hands are busy unbuttoning his pants to free his stiff cock.
He pulls up her skirt and pushes his cock against her slit; but the angle won’t allow him to penetrate her. He’s just about to lift her up higher against the wall so he can enter her, when a steely voice says…
“Amusing as your sexual escapades typically are, Lucius, I would prefer not to have to explain why a student was raped right outside my office.”
Lucius cuts his eyes towards the voice and says tightly, “Severus. Wait your turn. Or better, just walk away, there is no need for you to get involved. She won’t report it, I’ll make sure of that.”
“Oh, but there is a need for me to be involved, Lucius. This girl had detention with me, a detention I handed out quite publicly in class this afternoon. Dumbledore is going to have questions if she’s harmed, too many people know this was the last place she’d have been. Any method you might use to ensure her silence would likely be inadvisable, including killing her. I don’t think you want to be banned from Hogwarts grounds at the present time. I’m sure that would prove rather…inconvenient…for you at the moment.”
Lucius growls and reluctantly steps back from Alyssa, and then turns his back on Snape as he buttons himself back up. Snape mouths “stay here” to Alyssa before Lucius turns back; he wants to talk to her before she runs off to her dorm, feeling like he needs to warn her about encountering Lucius in the future.
Snape says, “Come, Lucius…I’m sure you’d rather leave by the fireplace. The girl won’t mention it – will you, Miss Hightower?” Alyssa shakes her head, and Lucius gives her a ‘this is not over’ look before he leaves with Snape.
Lucius sneers at Snape once in his office and says, “Since when have you been so protective of one of your little pieces of ass, Severus? She was dripping wet – has your preference changed, or could you just not get it up?”
Severus says coolly, “I don’t believe the functionality of my manhood is really any of your concern, Lucius; but, as it happens, my cock is every bit as functional as yours, thank you. I have my reasons. Leave her be.”
Lucius looks at him and doesn’t say anything, and deciding to try to mend fences with him somewhat, Severus adds, “I do however have some news that I will share; be prepared for a summons from the Dark Lord on Solstice Night. More than that I cannot say, but suffice it to say that I think you’ll forget all about my spoiling your fun tonight.”
Lucius raises an eyebrow at that, but knows Snape won’t tell him more even if he asks. He decides he won’t hold it against Severus for stopping him. Severus was probably right, he was a bit impulsive and wasn’t thinking about potential ramifications. But, he’s not sure he’s going to follow Snape’s instructions to leave her alone, either. He’ll just find a better opportunity…later. Lucius steps into the flames as Snape throws a pinch of Floo powder on the fire and says, “Knockturn Alley”.
Snape goes back out into the hallway, and finds Alyssa sitting in a compact ball on the floor, her arms wrapped around her legs. He extends a hand to her and says, “Come with me.”
She takes it and he lifts her up, walking back to his office and holding the door for her to enter. Once inside he directs her to sit on the couch, and goes over to the sideboard and pours a shot of brandy for her. He adds a drop of a sleeping potion to it, just enough to calm her and take the edge off her nerves. He hands it to her, saying, “Drink, in sips – don’t take it all at once. It’s brandy with a drop of sleeping potion.” He knows that she knows her potions well enough to know what effect such a small amount will have.
Her hand is shaking as she takes the glass, and he sits down in the adjacent chair and waits. After a few sips, she finally shakes her head as if to clear it, and looks at him. She says, “Thank you, for the rescue.”
Snape says, “You’re welcome, but don’t think for a moment that this is the end of it. He is not a man who likes to be thwarted, Lucius Malfoy. And he has surely marked you, now. I told him to leave you be, but he’ll see it as nothing other than a challenge and will make every effort, now, to find another way to get what he wants. And one of these times, he will likely succeed.”
“I could extend some protection to you if you belonged to me; but as you do not, I can only protect you if I’m there. All I can advise you is to go nowhere alone, even during the day. And under no circumstances allow any other student, male or female, to draw you off alone with them, lest they be leading you to him. He is quite wealthy, and a healthy payment for bringing you to ‘talk’ with him wouldn’t be refused by many; and from his perspective, would be cheap at the price if it gets him what he wants.”
She is suddenly angry as she realizes one of the things he’s said, and she says, “You set that up, didn’t you? You appeared rather conveniently, I must say; and now you tell me that ‘if I was yours’, you could protect me, but since I’m not, I’m on my own? Best of luck? Are you going to let him rape me just so I’ll turn to you? What the hell was I thinking?”
She slams her glass down on the table and gets up to leave, but he says, “Stop, and listen to me, Alyssa.”
The sudden use of her first name halts her, and he gestures for her to her to sit down again. She does, reluctantly, and he says, “I did not send Lucius after you; I did not even know he was here. Nor is it my wish to coerce or frighten you into accepting me the way I’d like you to. It has to be your free will; if I wanted to coerce you into it, I could have already. If I wanted to frighten you into it, I’d certainly find some other way than risking Lucius Malfoy taking your virginity – the latter being an assumption on my part, forgive me if it’s an incorrect one.”
She shakes her head and blushes a bit, indicating that his assumption is correct, and he goes on, “I showed up because…I think you called me. I felt that someone was in trouble; I did not know who it was until I saw you. As soon as I spoke to Lucius, the feeling went away, so I knew for certain that it had come from you and I did not need to look for another source. I do not know how you did it, I just know that I felt it, strongly enough that I could not ignore it.”
She looks at him curiously; he could not have made that up, she was calling to him, desperately in her mind. He says, “Nor will I ignore it in future; if you need me and can do that again, I will be there as quickly as I can be. But I can’t promise it would be soon enough. There is a magical protection I could extend to you, but it will require you bearing a mark in your flesh, that identifies you as mine; and I do not think you’ll want such a mark, no matter how small, unless you have in fact decided to become mine. That is all I meant. If you doubt me, I will be glad to say it again under Veritaserum; because I do not want you under any false pretense whatsoever, but only of your own free will. A gift like that can only be given with a fully open hand; if you reach out and take it by force, or by trickery, it’s meaningless.”
She can sense the truth in his words; she’s not sure how, but she knows that he is telling the truth. She nods and says, “I should go – as you say, I need to think on it. Thank you again.” He nods back at her, and shows her out.
Once in bed, she tries to puzzle out the seeming inconsistencies in him. Obviously, he cares about her to some degree; that was clear to her by the look in his eyes when he came to her rescue, no matter what he was actually saying to Malfoy. And also obviously, she’s made some kind of connection with him, since he felt her calling for help.
But, if she matters to him, why does he want to make a sexual slave out of her? That’s what she doesn’t get. Can’t he just accept her like a normal partner? And the Unbreakable Vow, seriously? Even married witches and wizards typically don’t go that far.
To feel like she is actually being fair, she tries to consider it from a different view. She’s just mentally asked why he can’t accept her like a normal partner, so she asks herself why she feels the need to change his views on the partnership he wants to have. She hasn’t actually rejected the idea anyway, she just hasn’t accepted it, either.
And, she recalls his words, about what she’d hoped for in the detention; that even if not consciously, she had in fact hoped that he would use the fact that she was under his control to take what he wanted. Which was what she wanted as well. She also has to admit that she likely would not have objected to anything he had wanted to do, either. She craved his desire for her; the form it took probably wouldn’t have mattered much.
As she drifts off to sleep, images (sparked by what he told her he might require of her) knit themselves into a dream. And all of the scenarios, even him being with other women, arouse her in the dream. Because she knows that however much she belongs to him if she does this – he belongs to her as well. It is a strange concept to her waking mind, but in her dream it seems clear to her. She can feel his protection wrapping itself around her as well, his innate defense of something that is exclusively his. She’s certain that he’d protect her with his life, if it came to that. It’s not quite as one-sided as it appears on the surface.
Over the next several days, Alyssa watches Snape, and he watches her in return – in class, at mealtimes. She can’t deny the draw she feels to him; almost as if this time, he’s calling to her and she’s the one feeling it inside. She decides she’s going to stay at Hogwarts over the Christmas break, even if he doesn’t; it’ll at least give her more time alone to think.
As Solstice Night approaches, Lavender is excited; and she’s also already assuming her mantle as the Dark Lord’s favorite. She says something rather imperious to Snape in class, and he takes her aside afterwards and reminds her that while the Dark Lord will likely grant her anything she asks for, at the same time he’s also not going to be pleased if Snape is sacked from Hogwarts. And if she acts like she has privileges that other students do not, there will be questions and rumors about both of them. She had best remember to act like any other student, and understand why he has to treat her like any other student. Cowed, she nods.
Alyssa watches him talking to her from the doorway, and wonders if he’s making a similar offer to her…and whether she might even take it.
At the Solstice Night feast, Alyssa sees Snape staring at her with more intensity than usual; but also occasionally trading looks with Lavender Brown. Snape leaves as soon as he’s done eating, and Lavender not long after; and Alyssa decides to follow her. Sure enough, Lavender goes to Snape’s dungeon. Alyssa settles in a corner hiding place and waits for a bit, but Lavender doesn’t come back out. After waiting for an hour or so, Alyssa goes back to her room; and once in her bed she begins to cry, feeling like she’s lost him before she’s even had a chance to decide whether she wants to accept his conditions or not.
