Chapter 8
Alexandra’s POV
I lay with my eyes closed, trying to keep my breathing even so Severus wouldn’t be aware that I was awake. It gave me some time to think things over. The small nap had done me good, and now I was trying to discipline my mind. Clearly I’d been led on by Sirius, he made me believe he was interested in me. Maybe it was time to give up any hope of being in Sirius’ life. Maybe Lily was right, maybe I should go for Severus. I had been friends with Severus since our first year. He was always nice to me, never ashamed of me. He didn’t mind being open about our friendship. It was also very nice to be treated like a lady, he was always the one to hold the door for me. I had been aware that lately he’d been giving me a lot of attention. Something had changed in our relationship. Until now I’d always ignored it, or brushed it of as imagination, after all, why would anyone be interested in me? But come to think of it, Lily and Mary were right, Severus did seem to like me a lot. The fact that I was cuddled up against him proved as much.
If he didn’t care then why would he come look for me? It wasn’t as if I had been easy to find, this spot was very difficult to see from the other bank of the lake. It had, at first, been the place where Sirius and I would secretly meet, away from the prying eyes of our classmates. When he told me that I shouldn’t come out here again, I used the place only when I was upset. Severus knew, of course, as he had been the one to stumble upon me here once. It seemed he used this place a lot, to get away from Potter and his gang. He also thought it was a great place to study, as no one ever bothered us here.
I felt Severus’ body making a sudden move, and immediately came into action. I rolled over, drew my wand and cast the Impedimenta jinx in the general direction of the attacker, slowing him down enough to be able to cast a shield charm over myself and Severus. I felt another curse hitting and crumbling my shield, it was directed at Severus.
I always had trouble shielding people other than myself, Severus would have to shield himself now. Luckily he was on his feet again in no time, he had drawn his wand before I reached him.
Wheeling around to face the attacker, I was surprised to see Sirius. It wasn’t the sight of Sirius that surprised me, it was more the fact that he seemed to be attacking alone. Of course James and Sirius hexed Severus regularly, but always when it was four, or at least two against one. Before now Sirius had never gone into a fight with Severus alone.
This didn’t make sense, why would Sirius attack us? There had been no provocation, I hadn’t seen him since lunch, and I’d been asleep for quite a while.
I thanked my rare lucky stars that my father always encouraged me to train both in duelling and physically, so that I’d always be ready in case of an attack.
I shot a stupefy at him, which he ducked neatly. ‘What’s your problem Black? I asked, ducking before another spell of his hit me.
‘Not your boyfriend is he? Then why are you al touchy feely with him?’ Sirius spat, sending another curse in Severus’ direction, which the other boy deflected.
‘What is it to you how I feel about someone, or how anyone feels about me?’ I demanded. It was weird, it sounded as if he was jealous, but he couldn’t be. After all, it was clear that I was nothing to him. Or maybe just a plaything, someone to toy with when there was no one else around.
‘For one, I hate him for being just him, for the other, I thought I made it very clear last night that I don’t want anyone else that close to you. I’m not the sharing type.’ He said.
‘No just the sleeping around type, that leads girls to believe you like them, just to sleep with another girl.’ Severus added.
I saw Sirius aiming for Severus again, a vicious look in his eyes. That look told me this would be a nasty curse. Making a spur of the moment decision I pushed Severus out of the way, and took the curse myself, it tore right trough my shield, and made it’s way into my body.
A white-hot pain seared trough my stomach, I automatically reached for her abdomen. As I pulled back my hands, I noticed they were bloody. I sank to my knees, the pain overwhelming me. The last thing I heard, before my world turned black were both Sirius and Severus’ voices calling out my name.
