Chapter Eight
I stood there for what felt like an eternity until I figured out what to do. The only problem with that scenario was that I never figured out what to do and instead my anxiety took over. Draco, I need him I said to myself. It was slightly pathetic and I realized that but he was the only person that I knew who could successfully talk me down from a panic attack, and he was close by. I walked through the waiting room of mostly women, strange how they were always women not men, and I tried in vain not to start breathing heavy or to you know, turn purple in the process! “Need…Heal…Malfoy,” I said to the nurse that sat at the desk.
“He’ll be right with you Mrs. Malfoy,” the nurse smiled warmly, “He’s in with a patient. I’ll just let him know that you’re here,” she said and she trotted off to get him. Please get a hold of yourself, you can’t have an attack here Hermione. It will humiliate Draco at his place of work! Stop it you fool, I chastised myself, which only made it harder to breathe. It was no use, I couldn’t stop it and I began to dry heave right there in the waiting room, while hordes of people looked on.
“It’s okay love, breathe,” Draco said and he wrapped and arm around me and moved us into an empty examining room. “Hermione, it’s alright but you have to breathe,” he said again and then he took me in his arms and kissed me. Thankfully his kisses did the trick and my windpipe opened up again. “Good girl, see that wasn’t so bad?” I rolled my eyes at him. “Alright perhaps it was, but we need to eliminate the stress factors that cause these types of attacks and then it won’t happen anymore.”
“Oh just like that, huh? Easy as pie I suppose,” I said sounding more than a little annoyed.
“I never said it would be easy, but it’s workable.”
“Yes, everything is for you. I mean, you’re this ever popular Healer that women flock to,” I said sarcastically and he frowned at me.
“Are we going to have this argument each time you visit my office?” My jaw fell open. The nerve.
“Oh what? You think I’m upset about the women out there?” Incredulous! What a spoiled brat! Conceited too. As if I was jealous? Wait, am I? I had the panic attack after I heard Janet declare her love for my husband. Gosh, I am jealous.
“If not that then what?”
“Nothing Draco. I just got nervous in the floo network. A rather large man got into the floo with me right as I was, you know sprinkling the powder and I thought I messed up saying Wizard Hospital is all. I was stressed before I landed. I’m really sorry, can we not talk about my panic attack please?”
“Of course. I have something for you,” he said and I was surprised. Of course I shouldn’t have been since it was the entire reason I’d come there to his work to begin with. “Your wand, my sweet. Here you go,” he said and he passed it to me. “Try not to hex anyone,” he winked. I gave him a fake smile. I was still stewing about Janet. “Shall we?” he said and he looped an arm around me as we made our way from the hospital.

He took me by the hand as we strolled down Diagon Alley. I had no idea where it was that we were going; only that it had something to do with Potions. I could only assume that he meant a lab, since he’d asked me to do some work for him and I’d used not having a lab as an excuse because I was nervous to fail at potions. Several passerbys greeted us, though when I say us I mainly mean him. I became keenly aware by the time we reached our destination that not only was Draco Malfoy now a respected member of the wizarding community, but he was also well liked. Even little kids waved to him and their parents nodded their courtesies as we passed. Only one person recognized me and I was embarrassed when they asked for my autograph. Draco of course made a big deal about nothing, telling the kid that the books didn’t portray the whole story very well and that I played as big a role in defeating Voldemort as Harry Potter did. I blushed and shook my head a solemn no when the preteen boy asked if it were true. Draco told him I was being modest. The most uncomfortable part of that whole meeting happened when the kid recognized Draco as a former Deatheater. He claimed he was a war buff and that he recognized him. When he asked Draco for his autograph he declined politely and then he explained that he had changed and that he was on the wrong side of the war and that he should not confuse villains for heroes. After that, he became quiet as we walked down the narrow streets. “You should have given it to him,” I finally said.
“You must be joking,” he replied.
“You’re my hero,” I said in all honesty and he smiled and pulled me closer to him.
“So this is it.”
“What’s it?” I said and I looked up. I recognized the place. It was the old apothecary, the one that was there back in our Hogwarts days. “I don’t understand Draco.”
“It’s ours. We own the place. I’ve been waiting for you to recover before opening it. I couldn’t do it, not without you. It was going to be our thing,” he said and he stuck his key in the lock and the door creaked open. “I’ll have to fix that creak.”
“Allow me. Reparo,” I chanted and I would be lying if I didn’t say that I was walking on air at being able to use my wand again. It had literally been ages since I’d so much as cast a simple spell. It felt brilliant!

“The place is perfect, well almost that is. I would change a few things, like the cutting and sorting station could easily go back against the wall. It would free up room and we could put another brewing station in,” I said and then I covered my mouth. “Where did that come from?”
“It came from you, babe. That’s you, don’t act so surprised. You’re a take charge type of woman. I agree with you too, so let’s do a little rearranging,” he said and I nodded and then without thinking I leaned into the table as if to move it by brute strength. Draco looked at me oddly.
“Are you going to help me?” I said when he just smirked at me.
“I could, or, you could use your wand perhaps?” he said with a ghost of a smile.
“Alright, alright I forgot, okay?” I said feeling embarrassed. He peppered me with kisses all over the face until I laughed at my mistake.
It was two hours later and just beginning to get dark. I was so enjoying my time in the potions lab that I nearly forgot about Edmond. Draco was nowhere to be seen though, so I called out his name. “I’m here babe. Sorry, I left some paperwork upstairs,” he said as he came down a narrow, spiral staircase.
“What’s up there?” I asked curiously.
“That my sweet, is where I’ve been living for the past several years. It’s just a room, nothing special and it’s rather messy.”
“I want to see it,” I said and I started up the stairs.
“Next time, alright love? I want to clean it up first.”
“Oh, well alright. Are you ready then? I need to get Edmond from Harry and Luna’s.”
“You go on babe, I’ll see you later. I still have some work that I have to get done, but I’ll be along soon I promise,” he said and he leaned in and kissed me passionately on the lips.
“Please Draco, come back to the cottage with me.” Please don’t see that tart, Janet Mungo, the one who loves you. Not tonight.
“I wish I could. Hey, save me some dinner?” he said and he kissed me again. I laid my head on his chest and fought back tears.
“Sure,” I said feeling dejected.
“I won’t be long. I love you,” he said and I looked up at him and gave him a lopsided grin.
“See you at home,” I said.

It was nearly three in the morning and I was a basket case. Edmond had been in bed for hours and dinner was past the point of cold, it was verging on old he was so late. Unable to wait any longer for my lying husband to decide to grace me with his presence I stripped my clothes off leaving only a tank top and a pair of panties on and I crawled into bed. I tossed and turned unable to sleep and finally I turned the light on and sat up. Tears, ugly and wet, streamed down my cheeks. The old Hermione would not cry like a baby over a guy I told myself, but then I remembered Ron and how I felt when I caught him with Lavender Brown back in my Hogwarts days and how utterly bad I felt inside. I cried like a baby then too, so it must be alright I told myself. So what he’s out with his girlfriend while I’m sitting here? Suddenly I heard the front door of the cottage close and I sprang from my bed where I frantically wiped my tears away with the hem of my shirt. I heard him check on Edmond and then I saw the door knob turn. I turned my back to the door, I couldn’t look at him I was so angry, and so I stood there like an idiot next to bed with my arms folded.
“Hey baby, I’m sorry did I wake you?” he asked and he was behind me kissing my neck as he caressed my arms with his cool hands.
“Get all your work done then?” I replied angrily.
“Yeah, I’m sorry, something came up and I had to tend to it.”
“Fine,” I said and I shrugged him off. “Maybe you should spend the night with whoever it was that came up, don’t you think?” I was furious, there was no getting around it and I wasn’t about to hide that fact.
“No, it’s not fine. I will spend the night with my wife.”
“Ha! Too late for that, the nights almost over,” I said still with my back to him.
“I don’t care for your tone Hermione,” he said in my ear. “It’s late and we’re both tired. I’m sorry I was late, now let’s go to bed but there’s a very good reason for it.”
“No and don’t tell me what to do. I think you should leave Draco.”
“Do you now? Hmm, I don’t think you mean that,” he said and I felt his fingers snaking their way down the front of my panties. Damn his fast fingers. He nipped at the skin on my neck while he rubbed my most private of places. I let out a soft moan when he sucked onto the skin on my neck. “I’m so hard for you,” he purred and I could feel his hardness against my backside as he ground his hips into me. He was doing a fair job of assaulting my clit in such a pleasing way that I was close to coming unglued.
“Stop,” I murmured but it was a weak protest and he knew it.
“What was that? You want me to stop doing this?” he asked and then his finger was inside me as he pumped his hand faster. “I’m going to stop my sweet, and then you will have to decide if you want me to go, or, if you want to kneel on the bed with your pretty arse in the air so I can give you my big cock. I’m going to fuck you so hard Hermione,” he said his voice deep and husky. I gushed with wetness when he said it and I knew that I was lost to him. I wanted him so bad. He let go, as promised and I stood there, alone, feeling the loss of him. Without a second thought I dropped my panties and then I climbed onto the bed and I did just as he asked.
“That’s my good girl,” he said and he climbed in behind me.
“Gods,” I cried out when I felt him inside me.
“Mmm, yes, you’re so tight and wet for me,” he said and then he pushed my head down so that it was flat against the sheet where he raised my arse in the air even higher. “You love it this way. You’ll see baby,” he promised and then he… fucked me. There’s not better way to say it. With his hands snug on my hips he thrust into me time and time again. In such a position his cock felt even bigger than it already was and I was like jello as I melted into the sheets. One, two I couldn’t count the number of times he brought me to climax. I was dripping with my own wetness when I felt his hand come around to rub my swollen and engorged bud.
“Oh…yes… this feels so good!” I squealed with delight as my husband fucked me so thoroughly and completely I couldn’t even remember what I was upset about only a few minutes earlier.
“You’re so beautiful,” he said through ragged breaths as he slammed his hardness into me, and then he was moaning loudly and it was music to my ears as I climaxed again.

“Mummy my tummy hurts,” Edmond cried and he laid his head down on the kitchen table.
“You’re not eating very well either. Draco?” I yelled for the blond and a minute later he appeared in the kitchen wearing only a pair of boxers and with bedhead to finish off the look. I smiled and passed him a mug of hot tea. “Edmond says his stomach hurts. Normally I’d not worry and would deal with it myself, but in light of certain things I thought it better you look at him.”
“I’m glad you called me,” Draco said and he looked up at me and something about his expression scared me. He carried him to the couch where he laid him down and then he began to press on his stomach as I hovered over him and watched. He took out his wand and chanted something indecipherable under his breath and I could see my son’s entire insides. “You might want to turn away love, it can be jarring at first,” he said but I was enthralled with his brand of medicine and I wanted to watch. He continued pressing on Edmond’s body as if he were looking for something and then he flicked his wand and Edmond was not see through anymore. “Get your clothes on, and hurry,” Draco said and then he picked Edmond up into his arms and kissed his forehead.
“Where are we going?” The look on his face told me to worry.
“Malfoy Manor,” he said and I felt a sense of foreboding.
__0__
“My parents, they’re…What I mean to say is, just…Fuck, assume they’re the enemy,” Draco said when we approached the looming house that was Malfoy Manor.
“I can handle myself around them,” I said but I squeezed the blond’s hand tighter. Edmond was pale and lifeless in Draco’s arms and I was more worried for him than I was about Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy. “Why are we here? Shouldn’t we take Edmond to hospital?”
“Because my Father can help him, that’s why we’re here. Listen, I’m going to have to agree to things in order to help Edmond.”
“What things? Now you’re worrying me.”
“I don’t know what things, but I know my father. He doesn’t do anything for free. Just be prepared, and keep your wand handy. I’m serious Hermione,” he said and I could see in his eyes that he was dead serious. I fingered the wand that I had stashed in the pocket of my parka.
“I got your back,” I said and Draco let out the breath he was holding as he reached for the great, brass door knob.
“Is this my grandson?” Lucius asked as he stood over Edmond who was resting peacefully on the luxurious sofa in the Malfoy parlor.
“It is. I told you last night about his condition. Well, it’s worsened and we need your help,” Draco said.
“You were here last night?” I asked, shocked.
“I told you I had a good reason for being late,” Draco said and he shook his head as if he were annoyed.
“Miss Granger,” Lucius nodded to me while Narcissa stared at our little boy. Her eyes grew misty and the way she looked at him was heartwarming really. That’s when it occurred to me that this was the first time Draco’s parents had ever met their grandchild. No wonder she looked so affected. “Please have a seat. You too Draco,” Lucius said and he motioned for us to take a seat on the loveseat.
“Her name is Malfoy, not Granger and thank you Father but I’ll stand,” Draco bit out like a rebellious teenager.
“Alright Draco, calm down. I didn’t know whether she remembered that or not so I was keeping to the absurd ruse,” Lucius defended. “Stand if you wish.”
“Thank you, I will,” Draco said and he folded his arms and raised a suspicious eyebrow at his father. I awkwardly took a seat where I watched Narcissa stroke her wiry fingers through my son’s hair. Draco didn’t seem concerned by her actions though he did look shocked at how she touched our little boy so tenderly.
“Stop looking at me like that, Draco. A Grandmother can fawn over her grandson if she wishes.”
“You know mother—“ Draco started and by the expression on his face it was clear that he was about to say something cheeky or smart arse against her but Lucius raised his hand to silence him and Draco bit back his words.
“Your son is going through the change.”
“He’s turning into a vampire? Is that what’s happening to him? Are we sure?” I asked, but I was looking at Draco not Lucius so it was strange when Lucius answered for my husband.
“Oh yes, he was most certainly bitten by a blasted vampire.”
“Go on Father. It seems that time is of the essence here. His pulse is weak, so if you can’t save him let us know now, otherwise we’re just wasting precious time here.”
“Let me cut to the chase, Draco. In order to become a vampire the human body must die first. Only then is the transformation complete.”
“Merlin!” I gasped. “Draco we have to do something quick! I can’t lose Edmond.”
“We will baby, don’t cry,” Draco said and he stood over me where he laid his hands on my shoulders in a show of comfort. “How do we reverse the process? Last night you said that it was possible.”
“It is possible but the effects are only temporary. It’s a difficult spell, and not one that is sanctioned by the Ministry.”
“I don’t bloody care, just do it,” Draco said and my eyebrows flew up. “It’s the only way Hermione. I need you to be alright with this?”
“Yes you do,” Lucius said cryptically, “For more reasons than the obvious. It takes three to cast the spell and the parents must be involved should the spell have any hope of working.”
“I’ll do it,” I said with conviction. It wasn’t as if I had a choice.
“Me too,” Draco agreed. “What happens after we perform the spell? Don’t leave anything out either Father.”
“Assuming it works it will rewind the progression.”
“And he will just be a normal little boy again?” I asked.
“Yes, but as I said it’s only temporary,” Lucius explained.
“I need better than that. I want a permanent solution,” Draco quipped and he raked a hand through his hair and began to pace the room.
“There is a way,” Lucius said and he rubbed his hands together malevolently. I gulped. I was reminded of my run in with Lucius several years earlier at the Department of Magical Mysteries, on the night that Sirius Black died. The thought gave me chills.
“Out with it already!” Draco shouted.
“You will first agree to my demands, Draco,” Lucius said wickedly.
“I knew it! I told you Hermione. I told you he’d do this. So what is it that you want this time, Father?”
“Nothing dastardly I assure you.”
“I find that hard to believe,” Draco spat.
“We want visitation,” Narcissa finally spoke. “I want to be able to spend time with my grandson. Unsupervised.”
“No!” Draco howled and he pulled out his wand. “Hermione, we’re going. Gather Edmond while I cover you both.”
“Alright, we’ll do it,” I said and Draco was seething when I said it.
“It seems that your wife has more sense than you dear son,” Lucius said with a smirk.
“Hermione, no. We’re going.”
“Draco, yes! He’s going to die and we will never get him back. Are you prepared for that? Lose the stupid ego. I love you with all my heart but we can get through this together. I see the way your Mum is acting towards Edmond, and I trust that she won’t let anything happen to our son even if I don’t trust you,” I said and I glared at Lucius.
“Fuck!” Draco screamed and he stared at the ceiling. “What else do you want Father, because I know there’s more.”
“You will once again be my heir.”
“I’m not entertaining your Pureblood friends. I refuse.”
“You will.”
“No, I will not,” Draco said sternly and father and son were embroiled in a pissing match.
“He’s so pale,” I wept and I knelt by son and kissed him on the forehead. When Draco saw that, the good man inside of him melted, and he agreed to be Lucius’s heir once more.
“Good, then we have an agreement,” Lucius finally said when negotiations were over. “Now I shall tell you that there is no way to permanently rid your son of his vampiric qualities.”
“You lied father!” Draco was enraged again but Lucius raised his hand to calm him.
“I didn’t lie, not exactly. The progression is being fueled by Edmond’s Master.”
“His Master?” I recoiled in horror. Draco’s face went a whiter shade of pale.
“Yes, it’s a problem and a big one at that. You said his Master’s name is Barnabus, so I did some asking around. Barnabus Strickland, from a long line of wealthy vampires is our culprit. They’re royalty you know, in the vampire world of course. They have ranks just as our own wizarding world has a sort of ranking system too. Well the Pureblood society did anyway but that was before...,” Lucius said and I rolled my eyes. “Barnabus is a Prince and a commander in the war that’s going on in France as we speak. I suspect that he was on his way to the war when hunger struck and he had a snack on your Edmond. I really like that name by the way, my Great Great Grandfather was Edmond Malfoy, did you know that?” Lucius said and he looked at me. “Strange how you chose that name for your son, isn’t it?” he said, and again he looked at me. That’s when I saw a flash, brief as it was but it was of Lucius and he was hovering over me in hospital after my accident. Edmond, you should name him Edmond, he said in my vision but then as fast as it was there in the forefront of my mind, it was once again gone.
“What is it Hermione? Something is wrong I can tell,” Draco said and I looked at him and shook my head. “Talk to me later,” Draco said and then he turned his attention back to his father. “So he’s a bloody Prince and some sort of general in the war. So what? How does that change anything?” Draco hissed.
“My brother was a vampire you know,” Lucius went on. “My father, your Grandfather Abraxas killed the vampire who bit poor Adolfo.”
“And what happened?” Draco asked.
“It broke his control over my brother. Adolfo was able to live a relatively normal life. Of course by then he’d done his fair share of killing and we had to move once the towns people turned on us, but Adolfo was able to resume his studies at Hogwarts and to live a relatively normal life after his Master was taken out of the equation.”
“I thought Adolfo was killed by a horde of goblins.”
“Well he was, but that’s because the bloodlust never left him and he had an appetite for goblins. Pesky little bints, the lot of them. He was much father along as a vampire than Edmond is though.”
“Draco?” I had tears in my eyes when I gazed at him.
“It’s going to be alright. We just have to stake this bastard through the heart, Barnabus, wherever he is. I’ll not have my son having any Master.”
“He’s in France. I have a friend who is an Auror and he claims that Barnabus is one of a handful of vampires who are leading the raids on Wizard towns in the South of France.”
“Right then, so I just have to enlist in the war and then kill him,” Draco said as if it were all so easy.
“You can’t just enlist Draco,” I said stating the obvious. “I probably could because of my status in the last war.”
“Hermione, I’m a Healer. I was already approached by the Ministry and asked to head south. I said no because of you, but my services are greatly needed. We are losing the war,” my husband said and I felt a panic attack coming on.
“So shall we perform the spell then? I fear we haven’t much time,” Lucius said and I snapped right out of it when I looked at my ill son. My heart broke for Edmond.
“Yes,” Draco said and he looked at me and I nodded in agreement.
“I’ll just get the paperwork for you to sign, Draco. I have it all ready,” Lucius said and I could see the frustration on my husband’s face.
“Of course you have it all ready. Where do I fucking sign?” Draco cursed.

A week had passed and Edmond had made a rapid recovery after we performed the dark spell at Malfoy Manor that day. He was eating regular food again and playing with his airplanes and seemed no worse for wear, for the most part anyway. The wound on his neck, the bite mark as it was, was festering and oozing. Draco told me that it was normal and that it would heal, but not until his Master, the vampire Barnabus was a rotting corpse. Plans were made and even though I had my doubts and more than a few concerns, Draco joined the ranks of the war, as a Healer of course. I didn’t like it and I wanted to go with him but someone had to stay back and watch Edmond. There was some concern that Barnabus would come for Edmond during the transformation time, and for that reason myself and Edmond were to stay with Harry and Luna. Sadly, Harry was no dummy and he put two and two together and figured out what was going on. He decided that he would tag along with Draco, which in all honesty made me feel better. As much as I loved Draco I knew that Harry was the far better fighter and I worried endlessly about my husband taking on a powerful vampire on his own. His odds had just grown significantly what with Harry also joining the war effort. That left me and Luna alone with Edmond of course which is how my former, fake husband Ron came back into the picture. He would take Harry's place in watching over us.
“I really don’t like him,” Draco said in reference to Ron, and he slung his duffle bag of clothes and medical supplies over his arm and took me in his arms to kiss me goodbye. He looked rather sexy in his gray army uniform.
“I know you don’t, but Harry going with you is a very good thing,” I said and Draco scoffed.
“You really have little faith in me,” Draco uttered and I ran my hands through his fine, golden hair and kissed him on the lips.
“I have all the faith in the world in you, Dragon. You brought me back didn’t you? You can’t blame me for worrying about you. I love you, and I don’t know what we’d do without you,” I said sincerely and he hugged me so tight.
“Before I go, I need you to know that I spoke to a colleague of mine named Hester Smitty. I briefed him on your case history, and I’d like it if you continued therapy with him whilst I’m gone. Can you do that for me?” Draco whispered to me as to keep our business private.
“I—I hadn’t thought about therapy.”
“You need it babe. If I were here we would continue, but—“
“Okay, I get it. I’m still messed up,” I said and I lowered my eyes in shame.
“You should be proud of all that you’ve accomplished, love. Don’t act that way, alright? Go see him. He’s good, I promise.”
“I thought I’d pay Healer Mungo a visit,” I said and then I watched Draco clench his jaw.
“Smitty is a Sr. Healer, like myself. He will be better for you.”
“I don’t know, I already have a repore with Janet.”
“No—alright? I don’t want you to see her anymore.”
“Right you lot, it’s time for me and Malfoy to go,” Harry said. “I beefed up the wards so nobody’s getting in. The cottage is secure as its ever been,” Harry said and Draco rolled his eyes at Harry.
“Goodluck mate. Knock ‘em dead,” Ron said and he gave Harry a high five. He turned to Draco and then awkwardly put his hand in his pocket.
“See you all when we get back,” Harry said and he gave Luna a peck on the lips once more. “Malfoy, we’re riding on brooms since the portkeys are being watched by the vampires. Do try to keep up with me, if you can,” Harry taunted and he shot Draco a playful smile.
“No, you try to keep up with me, Potter,” Draco said in disgust and then I watched my husband leave. Draco really was a good flier and if anyone could keep up with Harry it was probably him. It wasn’t his flying ability that I worried about. It was the vampire Barnabus.
“They’ll come home,” Ron said and he laid a comforting hand on my shoulder as we watched Harry and Draco take off into the skies like white lightning. I turned and glared at Ron’s hand on me and he pulled it away as if a snake had bitten him. “I invited Lavender to come stay with us, so it should be fun,” Ron said as he paced back inside the cottage. I wanted to scream when he said her name. Please Draco, come back to me. Don’t leave me here with Lavender and Won Won.”
I wandered back into the house, where I immediately owled Healer Mungo. It was not for therapy though. I planned to confront her about what I overheard. I was not at all okay with another woman being in love with my husband, and I had more than a few things to say to her about it.

*Thanks for the reviews, keep ‘em coming if you want to that is, it motivates me to write. To answer a reviewer, yes it is sort of like her journal! That was my intent when I started this. I sort of got away from loggging the journal entries, but it is supposed to be like that to some extent :) I love you all's reviews, they are thought provoking and supportive so thank you!
